Chapter 40: About Time

Thien went out to smoke a cigarette, and saw Faye Peraya standing in the corner of the hallway, stunned, but Yoko Apasra was nowhere to be seen. Since Faye was standing right in the designated smoking area, Thien walked over and raised her cigarette to ask if she could smoke here, and Faye nodded curtly. There was a long bench right there, so everyone sat at one end of the bench, far away from each other and in silence.

The atmosphere seemed awkward and stiff, but Thien didn't care much and just slowly smoked her cigarette.

"Any more cigarettes?" Faye asked.

Thien raised her eyebrows, but still coldly replied:

"No." Putting the newly opened, still full pack of cigarettes into her pocket, Thien calmly said: "Yoko doesn't like the smell of cigarettes."

"Yah." Faye sighed deeply, then thought of something and asked, "How do you two know each other?"

Thien hesitated whether he should help the young lady or just leave Faye standing there, stunned. But thinking that this was Tan's friend and also her customer, Thien opened her mouth to talk:

"I was her father's personal disciple. I was originally planning to pursue the industry, so 10 years ago when I was still in school, I always went back and forth to their house and knew Yoko since she was little."

Faye's mind immediately ran to the two words 'Childhood sweethearts', for some reason she felt sour in her heart.

"What was she like when she was little?"

"Like a princess, stubborn, mischievous but very cute, kind and easy to cry. From a young age, Yoko never knew what it was like to be ugly, poor or miserable. And that's true, with a family background like that, she never had to suffer. Everyone pampered her."

Thien always considered Yoko as a little sister, so the words she told were all sincere comments.

"Until she goes to college?" At first, they only intended to chat to lighten the awkward atmosphere, but unexpectedly, the content made Faye curious.

"She told you about it? Whoa! You must be very important to Yoko." This time Thien was surprised: "It was as if it never happened. She never mentioned it to anyone."

Yoko never mentioned the past, nor did she tell any of her friends. The year Yoko was depressed and had to stop studying, she left everything behind and went to England to travel alone, Neko told Thien about it when they met. Even during the year she traveled to Europe, no one knew what Yoko did or where she went. That girl always had very different thoughts and ways of healing.

"The last incident was related to Hanna Dang, you were also the one who investigated the information for Yoko, right?" Faye connected the relationships, thinking of Hanna's case and asked

"That's right." Thien stood up, stubbed out her cigarette in a nearby trash can, wanting to end the conversation and leave.

"Why did Yoko do that?" Faye also stood up, asking the last question.

Thien turned back and raised her eyebrows at Faye: "It's obvious, Yoko doesn't want you to be bothered by things like that.." Thien crossed her arms and shook her head "... I don't know about you two. But it's not just you who wants to protect Yoko. She also wants to protect you, in her own way."

Without looking at Faye's expression, Thien returned to the singing room. It was almost time to take Tan home, that boring doctor.

A while later, after saying goodbye to Nam and her friends, Faye left the karaoke room but was in no hurry to return home. Sitting in the taxi, Faye was not interested in telling the driver the address. She suddenly felt impulsive and told the driver to drive around so she could see the city at night and then stop anywhere.

This driver was also an older and romantic man. Upon receiving the request, he did not object to any of the requests and drove Faye around the famous night spots, even taking a lap along the riverside road and crossing the city's big bridge.

Looking at the city at midnight, the lights are still bright and beautiful, but the atmosphere is much quieter. There are no more loud car horns, no more busy people coming and going, only people quietly returning home after a night shift.

Faye leaned back in the back seat, looking out at the night sky, her mind filled with nothing but thoughts of Yoko. Thinking of her smile, of the times they talked all night, of the times she whined and asked her to hold her in her arms...

Since when did you become an indispensable part of my life?

'Why do you always protect me, then push me away?'

This sentence still rang in Faye's ears.

I never wanted to push you away, I was just afraid that you would get too close and hurt yourself. I was afraid that someone like me could never give you what you wanted. If there is no beginning, there will be no end.

Term of the Tripartite Agreement:

6 months after the film's release, the two sides are not allowed to have new relationships, remain single and must interact well as sisters and friends.

12 months after the film's release. The agreement officially expires, the interactions are removed. Both parties are free to return to the way things were.

Perhaps, that was the time they had been together, 12 months after The Journey finished airing. Everything was over and they were strangers again. Thinking about this, Faye's heart ached.

Even if it doesn't start, there will still be an end. Yoko will leave her at some point.

After driving around the city for an hour, the driver couldn't bear to continue. He stopped the car in a large square with few people, filled only with closed luxury shops and giant advertising screens.

Faye also thanked the driver and got out of the car.

"Go home girl, it's late already..." He looked through the driver's window and said to Faye, then he raised his hand and pointed at the time on the digital clock on the advertising screen behind Faye. The clock was reading exactly 1:00 AM.

When Faye turned around, she saw that the large LCD advertising screen, other than the digital clock, was displaying Yoko Apasra's picture. It was her promotional image for the movie Journey, Yoko was smiling brightly and waving.

"...it's late, go home. Your family is waiting for you." Pointing at the screen, he finished speaking and drove away.

Faye stood there, stunned, staring at the advertisement screen. She didn't think it was such a coincidence.

Suddenly an old conversation between the two appeared in her mind:

"In the future, can you love someone the way you used to love?"

"Probably not."

"What if it was fate?"

"Does fate even care about lost people like us?"

"If at some point, a signal occurs that you cannot deny is arranged by fate. At that moment, will you believe in it or not?"

"...No matter what, I will not let go."

Opposite the big screen were a few park benches, just sit down on the benches and you can see the whole screen. Regardless of the passing time, the night sky and the cold mist falling on her shoulders, Faye sat down on the bench and quietly watched. The screen slowly changed to another scene, this scene was Yoko at the beach, she stroked her long hair that was blown by the sea breeze, smiled gently and waved.

....

Faye and Yoko gave each other a little time to think in silence, neither texting or chatting with each other. Early in the morning on the day they went to the airport to attend an event abroad when episode 5 of the Journey was shown, the two met again. As soon as she saw her from afar, Faye walked closer and stood next to her. But Faye didn't know what to say, so she just stood close to Yoko.

Holding a cup of hot cappuccino behind her back, seeing Faye like that, Yoko sighed and habitually gave it to Faye. Before, she was also the one who bought Faye coffee every morning, it was all a habit, Yoko always told herself that. As soon as she handed over the cup of coffee, Yoko immediately wanted to turn around and go somewhere else.

Faye saw Yoko handing her a cup of coffee like that, smiled, and held her hand:

"Not sulking anymore?"

Yoko puffed her cheeks slightly, glanced at Faye, and tried to escape from her embrace. But Faye grabbed her hand and pulled Yoko into her embrace. The little girl obediently let Faye hug her.

"Don't be angry anymore," Faye whispered in her ear.

Yoko noticed something strange, she put her hand on Faye's forehead and felt a little hot.

"Are you sick?" Putting aside her previous anger, Yoko was worried. She touched Faye's hand and caressed her face. Both felt hot.

Faye smiled and shrugged, saying it was okay: "Came home late last night so I am a little tired. It's okay." Seeing Yoko standing still and worried, Faye took advantage of the situation and hugged her tightly. God knows how much she really needed this hug.

While the two were on the plane, Faye only had a slight headache. Nhan also came to check but felt that Faye was fine so she just gave Faye some headache medicine.

But unfortunately for the group, when the plane landed in that northern country, a low pressure system from the sea rushed in and created a storm, cold air and drizzle flooded the city where the event took place. The plane was delayed, causing the group to spend a lot of time getting to that city.

Faye had previously suffered from pneumonia, so her health was not good and she had to be careful about many things. With the changing weather, Faye was the one suffering the most, and when they arrived at the hotel that evening, the whole group got caught in the rain. As soon as they arrived, Faye and Yoko had to rush to prepare for tomorrow's event, with no time to rest.

The fan meeting event is held the next morning and will last all day. The event includes singing, interacting with fans, and taking pictures and signing autographs to say goodbye. This is the basic schedule of the fan meeting.

On the day of the event, Wanwan, as the production director of Ninestar, also followed closely. Fans came in large numbers because they loved Faye and Yoko.

But Yoko began to realize that Faye's expression was not right. Faye's mild cold had become worse due to the cold weather here. Since the event was about to start, Faye could only take fever-reducing medicine to endure. When Wanwan found out, she immediately directed the camera to focus more on Yoko. Yoko also had to try harder to carry the show.

Throughout the show, Yoko always followed Faye closely, giving the impression that she was a little girlfriend taking care of her quiet lover. Even when interacting with fans or answering questions, Faye's reaction time was slower because her fever was getting higher and higher, she just smiled and talked softly to everyone, while Yoko was the one who answered the main questions and led the way.

"A fan asked Faye and Yoko to tell us about the first time they met."

The MC had to read the question a second time before Faye could focus on the content, she was having a headache. Under the blanket covering their thighs due to their short skirts, Yoko was holding Faye's hand tightly, she took the initiative to answer first:

"The story is also very interesting, the first time I met Faye was at the casting for the role. Because she was sitting behind director Wan, I thought she was the CEO or some manager of the company." Yoko smiled happily, very cutely recounting: "At that time, I thought this manager was so beautiful."

The MC joked: "So from the beginning you thought Faye was beautiful?"

"Of course..." Yoko turned to look at Faye "She was very cold back then, so I was embarrassed."

Faye also looked at her gently, her little girl was in diplomatic mode, to carry the burden while she was tired.

"What about Faye?" The MC continued: "The first time you two met was probably during the audition, right?"

Faye shook her head gently: "The first time I met Yoko was before that."

This time even Yoko was surprised, she turned to look at Faye.

"At that time, we had been casting all afternoon without finding anyone suitable, and it was the last audition after two rounds of selection, so everyone was discouraged." Faye spoke very slowly, she turned to look at Yoko and smiled, her hand under the blanket pinching her finger "So I went outside to sit in the fresh air to clear my mind, then I saw her come and stand nearby. Because there was a bamboo fence between us, Yo didn't see me. As for Faye, it was the first time she met me."

"What happened next, Faye?" The MC asked on behalf of all the viewers, curiously.

Faye unconsciously stroked Yoko's cheek, forgetting that the event was still going on, causing all the audience to scream.

"Yoko's manager told her the audition time was wrong, so Yoko went to school. Luckily, class was suddenly canceled, so she happened to come to the audition right on time and it was her turn to audition." Faye still remembers it clearly "...Yoko was standing there talking to her friend on the phone, so I heard it."

"How come I didn't know that?" Yoko's eyes widened in surprise.

"Because I never told you." Faye patted her head.

"What was Faye thinking at that time?" MC asked again in addition to the original question.

Faye shook her head, this time she didn't answer: "Haha, what was the question at first? I already answered."

The MC also laughed, and the audience below also shouted, the atmosphere was very exciting, everyone wanted to know what Faye thought.

"At that time, Faye thought Yo was very cute." In keeping with everyone's wishes, Faye looked straight into Yoko's eyes and replied, "...Very suitable for the role."

"I didn't expect that the first time you two met would have such an interesting story." The MC continued the story: "It was as if fate arranged for Yoko to come to the casting that day at the right time and meet Faye. Did Faye feel that way?"

This time Faye just smiled and did not answer. Because she had already had the answer in her heart for a long time.

It was not until 4 hours later that the show finally ended. Yoko also breathed a sigh of relief. But when she touched Faye's forehead, she became even more worried. Faye started coughing and had a high fever. As soon as she saw that the show had ended and the fans had left, Faye immediately hugged Yoko.

The two were immediately taken back to the hotel. Since this was a different country, Wanwan decided not to take Faye to the hospital, but to try to fly back tomorrow morning before dealing with the treatment. However, Ninestar still invited the doctor to come straight to the hotel and wait in advance. The doctor examined Faye and diagnosed that she might have a severe flu due to the change in weather and the cold she had caught a few days ago. The doctor prescribed medicine and told her to rest until her flight back.

"I'll be here tonight." Yoko said to Wanwan and Nhan.

Everyone saw Yoko like that but didn't stop her. They just told Yoko to take care of Faye and report any problems immediately.

After the event ended and she crawled back to the hotel, Faye lay in bed with a fever. After taking the medicine, she seemed to feel a little better, but Faye still hadn't woken up. Seeing sweat pouring down Faye's forehead made Yoko feel heartbroken. Yoko sat next to her and took care of her. Then Yoko fell asleep because she was so tired.

Yoko doesn't know how much time passed, when Yoko woke up, she saw that she was sharing a blanket with Faye, and Faye was awake and looking at her. Her eyes were tired, but much brighter than before. Yoko sat up, took the thermometer nearby and measured Faye. Seeing that the temperature had dropped a bit, Yoko breathed a sigh of relief.

Faye looked at Yoko silently from beginning to end, then she pulled Yoko down and lay beside her.

Yoko stroked Faye's cheek to comfort her. Faye looked very strong, mature, and strong, but when she was sick, Faye was soft and loved to be cared for. Last time, her shoulder was injured, and this time was the same.

"You made me so worried, your fever was over 39 degrees just now. The doctor said it was a severe flu, but because you had pneumonia before, you had to go to the hospital for further examination. Tomorrow when we fly back, you have to go to the hospital for further examination, otherwise it won't be okay. I also told Wanwan that you have to let you rest..." The little girl kept talking, every word was full of concern for Faye.

Faye's eyes were red and her voice was hoarse from illness. She suddenly said something unrelated.

"Can you give me more time?"

Yoko paused, her eyes wide as she looked at Faye, not believing what she had just heard. But she understood what Faye was talking about.

'I like you, Faye.' That's what Yoko said, and it wasn't until today that Faye actually responded to her.

"Give me more time.." Faye leaned forward, hugged her partner, and covered both of them with a blanket. Her body was hot, but Yoko felt nothing but her heart beating strongly:

"Yoko, can you give me some time to think?"
