Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Brooklyn

My eyes flutter open as I feel slight movement next to me. It's then that I notice Dean's arm protectively around me, holding me close to his chest as he lightly snores against my hair.

Most nights I find myself sleeping in Dean's room, seeming to only find sleep when I'm with him. Once in a while I'll sleep in my own room, only to toss and turn most of the night and regret it the next morning.

Last night was one of those nights where I started in my room, only to return to his.

I hear Dean mumble against my hair, "We need to get groceries." Somehow, he knew I was awake, even with his eyes still closed.

"Yeah, I know. We needed them last night but you apparently had other things on your mind," I said with a smile. My body turned to face Dean's shortly chest, my head looking up slightly to see his eyes now opening. He looked rested, ready to start the day.

"What can I say, you distract me at times," Dean smirks, making me let out a giggle and hide my face in his chest.

Dean lightly rubs my back, still seeming to keep his arm wrapped around me as if trapping me next to him. There's at least 30 seconds that past where I just stay like that and I wonder if Dean might have fallen asleep.

"Alright, we better get up," Dean said, removing his arm from around me. A sigh left my lips before I pulled myself away from him and sat up.

The cool air sent shivers up my body as it hit my bare legs and arms. Quickly, I stood up, patting my way across the floor and over to the door. I opened it, turning to give Dean a smirk before closing it. I made my way to my room, grabbing some clothes before heading to take a shower.

Usually, I'll get ready first, then eat breakfast unlike Dean who likes to eat breakfast first, then get ready.

Works for me.

I let the warm water warm my body up before slipping on some jeans, a black short sleeve shirt, and my jean jacket. I brushed my teeth and hair, deciding to leave it down in its curls before heading out to the kitchen.

To my surprise, Dean was still sitting at the small kitchen table eating cereal with Sam nowhere to be found.

"Is Sam still asleep?" I asked, going into the fridge to grab some milk.

"Yeah, figured he needed his rest," Dean said with a mouthful of food.

A groan left my lips when I looked in the fridge to find no milk left. "We're out of milk, and pretty much everything else," I said, closing the fridge. I grabbed the box of cereal, digging my hand into it to eat it plan.

Dean only hummed in response, seeming to stuff his face full of his breakfast. Once done, he sat his bowl in the sink before leaving to get ready. I pretty much finished up the cereal before washing some of the dishes while I waited for Dean to get ready.

It was nothing for these boys to pile up the dishes till they were eating their breakfast from a mug. Luckily, I didn't mind doing the dishes, or the laundry for that matter. But I've told them both that if they don't at least put their clothes in the hamper then their getting pink undies.

They started putting their clothes in the hamper.

Once Dean was ready and we left a note for Sam, we climbed into the Impala and got some food. It took us at least an hour before we had the back filled with bags.

"Well, this should satisfy us for at least a week, maybe more."

"I don't know, with your eating it'll probable only last us a few days," Dean said, starting up the Impala with a smile.

I lightly hit his arm, causing a chuckle to leave both of our lips before heading back to the Bunker.

To our surprise, Sam didn't look to have been up, the place still in place as we left it. Dean sat down the groceries on the Library table, pulling out the six-pack of beer, before pulling out one. He cracked it open and threw the cap on the table, sipping it as he sat down and threw his feet up.

He held up another beer towards me, making me eye him, "It's only, like, 1, really?"

Dean shrugged, dropping the beer bottle back in its case before taking another sip of his. I took the seat across from him, just sitting down when Sam finally walked in. He looked like he had just rolled out of bed and, unlike Dean, seemed to look more tired than awake.

His growing hair is all over the place, causing Dean to comment, "Man, I'm telling you, give me five minutes with some clippers, and..."

Sam smiled slightly, "Oh, shut up. Uh, what time did I lay down?" He asked after a yawn.

"You took a siesta around noon. Yesterday," Dean said, grabbing the beer he offered me and turning to Sam. Sam looked up, just as Dean threw him the beer. Sam failed to react and the beer shattered on the floor next to him.

"I'm sorry, I, uh..." Sam started, looking at the broken glass before rubbing his eyes.

Dean spoke in a serious tone but his words proved he was joking, "That's why we don't have nice things, Sam." Sam suddenly stumbles, grabbing onto a chair which grabs Dean's attention, "You okay?"

Sam nods, his words trying to convince Dean and himself, "Yeah, I'm, I'm fine, I just... Uh, you know what, I'm gonna get dressed. We should go find Kevin."

"Easy sleeping beauty," Dean says, sitting down his beer.

"Dean's right, we've hacked into every security camera around Garth's houseboat, Kevin's hometown, where Mrs. Tran lived and nothing so far. I talked with a few old friends and apparently this place is untraceable, which is good for us." I hoped my words would relax Sam enough to take it easy for a bit, but it didn't do too good.

Sam let out a sigh, annoyed, "Dean, Brooke, we have to find him."

"And we are," Dean said with a nod, "Garth is out looking for him, we got a hunter APB out on Kevin, we will do what we can from here while you get better."

Though Dean was just trying to keep his brother safe, Sam didn't see it like that, "I'm fine. Dean, I can still go out there, I can still hunt."

Dean and I shared raised eyebrows, neither one of us believing it. Somehow, I was the one to speak up, having an idea, "Alright, if you pass a test." The next thing I knew, the two boys were following me towards the basement, down to the shooting gallery. I haven't been down here since that "almost kiss" moment with Dean.

I grabbed a gun, loading it up.

"This is stupid..."

"Shh," Dean held up a finger to Sam, watching me as I aimed the gun and fire twice with one hand, hitting the red target both times.

Turning to Sam, I held out the gun, "Alright. You hit that target, and I'll let Dean take you out hunting."

Sam scuffed, "No problem," he said as he took the gun. He aimed it, wavering it slightly before pulling up his other hand to help steady it. He shoots the gun twice, both hitting the wall instead of the target.

I can hear Sam mumble something as Dean turns to his younger brother, taking the gun. "Look, man, this second trial hit you a lot harder than that first one. I don't know whether it was just more intense or what."

Shrugging, Sam said, "Felt the same. Till the next day."

Dean nodded, "So, we're gonna sit tight. Keep an eye out until you get better." With that, Dean walked past his brother and back upstairs, causing Sam to stare at the horrible missed shot. He looked distant and upset, watching as the thing he was so good at become a forgotten trick.

"Hey," I said, grabbing his attention, "We're going to get you better and then you'll be back out there kicking both of our asses."

Sam smiled slightly at my comment, nodding, before following me back upstairs.

Sorry this is so short, but it's mostly just a fill in chapter along with a cute Dean and Brooke moment. Hope you enjoyed it!
