Chapter 13

Star

Derek and I pulled up to the school “are you sure you want to do this, I mean you didn't even study for this” Derek said to me. “I don't really have a choice, besides being a wolf does have it's perks” I said with a smile and got out of the car, starting to walk away. Derek smiled “okay, hey” Derek called making me turned around to face him “I love you” I smiled “love you too” I said. I walked into school and walked over to the line of kids, standing with Scott, Malia, Stiles, and Kira.

“Where's Lydia” Kira asked “she took it her freshman year” Stiles said “does that mean I could have taken it some other time” Malia asked? “Malia, you studied harder for this than any of us” Scott said “yeah I didn't even study” I said “doesn't mean I'm gonna do good” Malia said “well -” Stiles started “well, what” Malia asked? “It's do well, not good” Stiles said and I hit his arm “ow, really” Stiles said to me. “You're doing this, because while we're trying not to die, we still need to live, if I survive high school, I'd like to go to college. A good college” Scott said.

“Yeah, and I have to do good because” I stopped and thought for a second “actually, I don't really have an answer for that” I said. “It's only three hours, we can survive three hours” Kira said and we all looked at each other. We walked into class “cell phone in the envelope, Scott. You'll get it back after the test” Lydia's mom said as our teacher, Simon smiled at me and I nodded back. I put my phone in the envelope “is this you're only phone” Lydia's mom asked?

“Yup” I said and sat down “please do not open the test booklet until you are instructed to do so” Simon said. Stiles quickly closed his book as Malia looked nervous “this test is two hours and 10 minutes. There will be two 25-minute critical reading sections, two 25-minute math sections and an essay writing portion that will last 30 minutes” “joy” I whispered to myself. “There are supposed to be two teachers monitoring this exam” Simon said to Lydia's mom.

“I know, it's Coach, he's not exactly punctual, let me just try him again” Lydia's mom said and grabbed her phone, walking out of the room. After a little bit she walked back into the room “I can't find him, but Mr. Yukimura is upstairs grading papers, do you want me to try him” she asked Simon. “We have to start, we can ask for his assistance during the first break” she nodded. “You may now open your test booklets and begin” Simon said and we all opened our books.

We filled in answers after answers until I came across one that I didn't know and looked around. I looked over at the kid next to me as he seemed to be mumbling to himself, I listened to him and right when I was about to get the answer a girl a few seats away from me fainted and fell out her seat, making everyone turn to her. “Sydney” Lydia's mom said and ran over to her “are you all right”? “I'm okay, I just got kind of dizzy” Sydney said.

Lydia's mom looked at her wrist and saw a red mark “Sydney, how long have you had this”? “I don't know” she said confused about it “Ms. Martin, do I need to stop the test” Simon asked? “No, um, it's fine, everybody stay in your seats. I'll, um, be back in a minute” she said and looked at Simon “nobody leaves the room”. I looked at Scott who looked at me confused. After a few minuets we heard shouting out in the hallway and quickly we all went out there.

Lydia's mom looked at us “back to your seats, now, please” Stiles, Scott, and I looked at each other as we all quickly went back inside the classroom. “I need the number of the CDC, yes, the Center for Disease Control” Scott and I heard her say into the phone. After about an hour some people in yellow suites came into the school and we all watched them as they walked by. “Great” I said with a whisper and sighed as they started seating up different things inside the classroom.

“Bet they're thinking smallpox” Stiles said to us “not likely, smallpox was eradicated worldwide in 1979” Simon said making Malia, Kira, Stiles, and I look at him. “We've only managed to completely eradicate two viruses in history. The other was rinderpest, it killed cows” Simon said to us. “So we should be comforted by that, right” I said “unless it's something worse”. “Whatever it is, they're taking it pretty seriously, they're a lot of cars and trucks out there” Malia said while Stiles was itching.

“Your dad's with them” I said hearing his voice “hey, I should probably call him” Stiles said walking over to his phone. “Don't bother, they would have shut off any access to all outside communication by now. No cell service, no WiFi, no one starting a panic, looks like we're all just going to have to wait here and see what happens” Simon said seeming wired. “Is it just me or is this teacher getting creeper and creeper by the minuet” I whispered to Malia and Kira.

Scott went to the bathroom while I sat in the school. I started hearing Lydia's mom while she was banging on the door “Scott, you've been in there a long time, you all right? Hey, you need to come back with the others”. The banging was starting to hurt my ears as I heard a faint growl. I started to hear peoples conversation and there heart beating making my head hurt and me cover my ears. “Star, are you okay” Stiles asked me “yeah, I'm, I'm fine” I said brushing it off.

Kira's dad came into the classroom and walked over to us “Scott needs you guys, now” we all looked at each other and quickly went to Scott who was in the boys locker room. Scott's eyes kept changing to a red “it's still happening” Kira's dad said as Malia's claws were out “I can't make them go back” Malia said “obviously the virus is affecting the two of you in a way it won't hit any human being” he said. “You guys have to stay out of sight, we have to quarantine you from the quarantine” Stiles said “yeah, but where? I mean, what if they get violent” Kira said “the I can always knock them out” I said making everyone look at me.

“Okay, you've been spending way to much time with Derek” Stiles said to me “we shouldn't stay in here. Not in the locker room” Scott said “a classroom is not going to hold us” Malia said. “What about the basement” Kira asked “too many ways out, we need something secure. Somewhere nobody can find us” I said “the vault, the Hale vault” Stiles said “the Hales always have an escape route, like their house, there has to be another way in” Scott said.

“This is where the school sign is, so the vault's got to be right about here” Stiles said as we unraveled a map of the school. “I suppose if there's a second entrance, it would probably be accessible from the basement” Kira's dad said to us. “It's probably somewhere in this hallway, West corridor” Stiles aid fallowing over but Kira's dad caught him making him shake his head and sit up. “It's happening to you too, you're getting sick, you all are” he said to us.

“I don't feel sick” Kira said “me either” I said “I think it's affecting you differently, neurologically” Kira's dad said to Kira. “I found your test answers here in a pile with the others” Kira had circle marks but not in the actual circle. “What about me” I asked “maybe it won't effect you because you're a wolf” Stiles said to me. “Do you feel anything different, anything at all” Kira's dad asked me?

“No, I mean I have a headache and I can hear pretty much everything in this this school” I said. “We should go” Kira said and we headed downstairs “hey, guys, over here” Stiles said pushing a shelf out of the way. “Look at the cracks in the wall, it's like the entrance outside, it only opens with claws. Anyone's claws, right” Stiles said looking at Scott “um, Malia or Star can you try” Scott said “why us” Malia asked “I don't have control” Scott said showing that he couldn't make his claws grow.

“Okay's I'll try” I said and my claws grew making me feel a sharp pain in my side and quickly tensed up. “Star, Star” Scott said and I quickly brought my claws back “okay, not doing that again” I said. “I'll do it, but first tell me what you've been hiding from me. I know you think you're trying to protect me, but I can handle it” Malia said making Stiles and Scott look at each other.

“I know I'm on the list” Malia said “yes” Stiles said almost a whisper “so how much” Malia asked? “How much what” I asked “how much am I worth” Malia asked “four million” Scott said. “Are you okay” I asked as she was silent and looked at us “yeah, Star's worth 30, Scott, 25, Kira, six. They'll take you guys out way before me” Malia said like it was nothing.

Kira and I looked at each other “that's progress, that's progress” Stiles said to us as Malia opened the door. We walked inside as the door closed behind us and we made ourselves comfortable. “If only we could we could make some kind of contact with the outside world” Stiles said. That's when I remembered something “wait, my phone” I said reaching into my boot.

“I thought you gave you're phone up” Scott said to me “I did, but Derek gave me another one that can only make one call, we could use this” I said holding up the phone. “I don't think it will work” Stiles said “it might, this isn't exactly the school, no one knows it's down here” I said. “Call him” Scott said as everyone stood up and made a circle as I pushed the call button. It rang a few times “come on, come on” I whispered as I held up the phone to my ear.

“Hello” I heard Derek's voice “Derek” I said happy “Star” Derek said happy “what happen, are you guys okay” Derek asked me? “Yeah, I mean sorta” I said “here, let me put you on speaker” I said and put him on speaker. “Derek whats going on” Scott said “Scott” we heard Melissa say “mom” Scott said a little surprised. “Are you okay” Melissa asked Scott making Scott look at us “yeah, I'm fine” Scott said.

“Whats going on” I asked Derek “okay, listen to me, there's this sickness, it's like a decease. It's effects werewolf's and kills them” Derek said “perfect” Malia said “we haven't found a cure yet but we're working on it” Derek said. “Wait, then why isn't Star feeling the same things we are” Scott asked. Derek was silent “Derek” I said wanting him to answer but not sure if I was going to like the answer.

“The reason why it's not effecting you right now is because, because it will effect you slower but harder then everyone else” Derek said. “What does that mean” Malia asked “it means that if you guys have 24 hours to live I only have around 18” I said mad. “Listen, we are going to find a cure, I promise” Derek said “okay, just hurry” Scott said and I hung up the phone. “So, now what” Kira asked “no, we wait to die” I said and sat down on the ground.

“No one is going to die” Scott said “I don't think we have much of a choice” I said.
