Sickness (chapter 3)

It was like the cold air radiated sickness. Appleheart, one of the elders had it the worst, they were constantly coughing. Lillyleaf was always rushing over in the middle of the night to certain cats.

Willowkit blinked the sleep from her eyes when she woke up. It was just dawn. The dim light of the sunset filtering through the branches of the nursery.

"Goldendew!" A squeak sounded in the corner of the nursery. Willowkit lifted her head, trying to get a better look. Sootkit was scampering around the golden queens strangely still body.

"Willowkit," Lilacpelt mewed quietly, her eyes wide, "fetch Lillyleaf,"

Willowkit nodded, than sprinted towards the nursery entrance. She tripped into a small mound of snow, it practically swallowed her. The dusty white flakes tickled her nose as she battled to get out of the white flurry quick sand.

The deputy, Solarsky padded up to Willowkit. "Why in such a rush little one?" He asked softly and picked her up by the scruff, the golden furred tom than set her down.

"I need to fetch Lillyleaf!" She squealed to him, hoping he'd get the urgency of the situation. The broad shouldered tom went silent for a moment, his eyes clouded.

"Alright, go fetch her," he sighed and tilted his head towards the den. Willowkit nodded firmly and rushed off across the small clearing, hoping that it wasn't going to be to late for Goldendew.

"Lillyleaf!" Willowkit practically shouted as soon as she entered the cold medicine cat den.

"Yes?" Lillyleaf asked, turning around to face the she-kit.

"It's Goldendew, she not waking up!" She said, her tiny fur prickling as she delivered the news.

Lillyleafs face went stone cold, her normally vibrant green eyes faded slightly, clouded with worry. "Don't worry," she mewed, "I will be right there,"

Willowkit nodded firmly and disappeared into the clearing, running back to the nursery.

"Lillyleaf said she'll-" Willowkit was cut short when the medicine cat burst into the cramped tiny space.

"Leave Goldendew!" She called to the other kits, as they were flocking around her. Sootkit backed off immediately, after her followed Bearkit, than thankfully Deerkit followed suit.

"What's wrong with her Lillyleaf?" Sootkit asked in a fallen voice, her eyes wide and scared.

"I don't know Sootkit," the brown she-cat mewed, than crept over to Goldendew. Lillyleaf put one of her ears to the sleeping queens chest, and let out q sigh of relief. "Thank StarClan," she whispered gladly.

Willowkit watched curiously. The medicine cat lifted her head, Lillyleafs green eyes narrowing in worry.

"The good news is that Goldendew is still alive, and I don't think she has greencough," Lillyleaf paused thinking, "but I don't know what is making her sick," she shook her head.

Suddenly Goldendew let out a violent cough, and than another. Her eyelids fluttered open, the whole den went silent. Willowkits eyes went wide. She took a fearful step backwards.

"Goldendew?" Lillyleaf broke the silence, "can you walk?" Her voice cracked as she spoke. Goldendew groaned sadly. She opened her mouth, "W-w-water," she croaked out. Lillyleaf, her eyes still on Goldendew said to Sootkit.

"Go fetch miss dripped in water Sootkit," she mewed, a slight harsh edge to her voice. The grey kit nodded and ran out of the nursery, kicking up snow as she ran to the small pond just outside of the dirt place.

"Your going to be alright," Lilacpelt murmured into Goldendews ear, it was like she was hoping the words could give her wisdom.

"By the next gathering," Goldendew whispered back, almost to quiet to hear.
