Chapter 16

Faith's dress.

Chapter 16

I don't know what I was expecting when Meliorn said he could help us find Valentine. But walking through a bright forest in the Seelies world wasn't one of them.

"Welcome to the Seelie Glade. The remotest edges of it," Meliorn said, leading Clary, Jace, and I.

"How did we get here?" I asked, confused. All we did was walk through a wall and boom we we're here.

Jace, who seemed to have more answers then Clary and I, spoke up. "There are entrances all through the mundane world."

"You just have to know where to look," Meliorn said with a small smirk as he looked back at us. He continued on ahead, but we stayed in sync with his steps.

"Why did we have to come here to find my father?" Clary asks, taking a few more steps to get closer to the Seelie.

Meliorn nodded to Clary's purple necklace that hung around her neck. Thanks to Jace for grabbing that and the card. "Because of your necklace. It's a Portal shard."

Jace sighed, clearly annoyed slightly, "Tell us something we don't know."

"How does it work?" Meliorn asked my sister, ignoring Jace's comment.

Clary's fingers lifted to touch the shard but stopped before she brushed it. "When I touch the crystal and I think of someone, I can see where they are."

Meliorn, walking backwards like he knew this world better then the back of his hand, looked at Jace. "I'm curious, Shadowhunter, who knows so much about Portals, did you never wonder why this Portal shard doesn't behave the way normal Portals do?"

Jace glanced at me before letting out a sigh. "Normal Portals can only take you to places you've been. I guess I never really thought about it."

"I see Isabelle is the smart one in the family," Meliorn said before turning back around and leading the way again. His comment made Jace growl slightly, causing me to slip my hand in his and calm him down. "Your Portal shard works the way it does because it's a piece of a Portal from another dimension."

"Another dimension?" I asked?

Jace joined my questionable moment. "You're saying there's a Portal in some other universe that can take us to anyone if we just think of them?"

"If you can find the only Portal still standing in that dimension, it will take you to Valentine." He approaches a set of tree's, stopping and gesturing to them. "These trees are where the alternate dimensions intersect the Seelie realm."

Releasing my hand, Jace took a step, grabbing Meliorn's attention. "How is it possible that the Clave doesn't know about your dimensional doorways?"

The Seelie smirked, "They are our most guarded secret. We are their protectors. Only Seelies know of their existence."

"Then why are you telling us?" I asked, moving to stand next to Jace.

Meliorn looked between Clary and I. "I owe you both a life debt and I don't like being indebted to anyone."

"What would happen if-" Clary started but was cut off by Meliron who seemed to already know what she'd ask.

"If the Seelie Queen finds out I've shared this with you? I could be executed."

"Well, we'll be extra careful then," Jace nodded, giving him a fake smile.

Meliorn shook his head at Jace as his smile fell. "There is no "we" in this scenario. Only Clary and Faith goes in to find the Portal. My debt is to them," He explained as he gestured to my sister and me.

I was slightly taken back by Meliorn's words, while Jace seemed to grow angry at the thought of leaving him behind. "You've given us no reason to trust you, Seelie."

Clary turned and looked back at Jace and me, making a point with her words. "He brought us here."

Meliorn waves his hands in front of the trees, causing green little sparkles to form a door in between the two trees. "This will establish a connection to the other dimension."

"What's it like? The other dimension. Is it like this one?" I asked, a little nervous.

With a small nod and shrug, Meliorn confused us even more. "It is, but it isn't."

"Yeah, cause that makes perfect sense," Jace said, scrunching up his face.

Meliorn sighed. "It is an alternate timeline, in a sense. There, Shadowhunters and demons no longer exist."

Both Clary and I dropped our mouths in shocked, asking at the same time, "What?"

"And Downworlders have conformed to the mundane way of life to avoid detection."

Jace, shocked and looking at the Seelie like it was too good to be true, he asked, "What happened to the Shadowhunters?"

"Their services were no longer required, because they won the war against the demons, centuries ago. Once they sealed the rifts between their worlds their culture faded away." Meliorn looked at Clary and me. "Once you arrive in the alternate dimension, you will assume the body of the Clary and Faith in that world. You will think and feel just like them."

A little nervous and confused, I quickly brought up Jace and me. "What about Jace and I's Connection?"

Looking at us, Meliorn nodded. "That will still stand, but it will weaken both of you from so far away."

"But we'll still know we have to find the Portal, right?" Clary asked, making sure we could still do the task at hand.

Jace looked at the silent Seelie, seeming to see something we didn't. "There's a catch. With Seelies, there's always a catch."

"Your alternate self could consume you if you let it," Meliorn said. Yup, there's the catch.

Clary shook her head, "Is there a way to not let it?"

"Focus on the differences between that world and ours. Find something or someone to keep you grounded to this one."

My head and eyes turned to Jace, causing him to do the same. "Easy enough," I said, figuring that if I just focus on Jace it would get me through this world.

Meliorn, on the other hand, only proved me wrong. "It will be more difficult than you think. If you don't hurry, you could cease to be this world's Clary and Faith Fairchild. And you will lose your Connection."

I let out a breath, shaken with nerves. I tried to cover it up with my words, "Then we better not let that happen." But even then, Jace took my head and gave it a small squeeze.

Clary pulled us to the side, sneaking the Cup's card into Jace's pocket.

"Just in case," She said before making her way back to Meliorn.

Jace shoved the card deeper into his pocket before turning to me.

"Listen, if I don't make it back and something happens-" I started, but was stopped by Jace.

"You're coming back."

"What do either of us know about interdimensional travel?" I asked with a faint smile.

Jace shrugged, trying to lighten the moment, "Little bit."

I couldn't help but crack a little bigger smile and chuckle, "Not helping."

Reaching down and taking my hand, Jace speaks up again. "Just, no matter what. Even if you have to forget about Valentine and the portal, just... make it back to me, okay?"

I don't speak, knowing that I couldn't promise anything. Right now, maybe I could, but in the moment could be another story. Instead, I do my best to reassure both of us with a kiss.

It comforts him, I can feel it, but it raises his nerves when I don't speak.

Meliorn grabbed our attentions, "It's time."

Both Jace and I walk over, hand in hand as we stand next to Clary.

Clary speaks up, "Meliorn, I appreciate the risk you're taking, but a life debt requires you ensure both my sister and I's safety." He nods in response.

Feeling the need to clear something up and make a point, I speak up as well. "Through this portal, if Jace feels like I'm I trouble or I'm hurt you need to let him through. We'll need him to fight Valentine."

"She'll need backup," Jace adds.

Meliorn looks between us both before looking down at our intertwined hands. He lets out a sigh before answering. "If you find the Portal, you may come back for him. Shadowhunters need Seelie permission to go through. Only demons can pass through unaided."

We nod, expecting that answer.

Meliorn holds his hands out, saying some fancy words before turning to Clary and I. My hand releases Jace's while my head turns to look at him. I give him a reassuring nod before turning back. Clary is already stepping into the portal, leaving me to follow.

I feel my body get yanked like a magnet, pulling me through the portal and out the other end like a monster spiting me out.

My body freezes for a second as the darkness becomes a picture in my mind before turning into my reality. My head looks around, finding myself in a Master bedroom. There are a few odd and end boxes sitting around, most are empty while some still hold little trinkets of stuff at the bottom.

There is a bed set in the middle of the room with galaxy like sheets and a black comforter pulled back. Two night stands stand on either side with two doors next to them. A night stand sits against the wall ahead of the bed with a TV in place of the mirror.

Where am I?

I look at one of the nightstands, finding red numbers read 9:06AM. Next to the clock sits a journal, one that looks similar to something I would have.

Sure enough, as I creep closer to it and take hold of the red journal, I open it to find my handwriting starting up words. I probably would have taken a moment to scan through it until I heard a noise outside of the room.

Sitting the journal down, I walk over to the door, opening it slowly as I peek out. There is a small hallway with a door on either side of mine which stands in the middle.

My assumption is that one is a bathroom while the other is a closet or another bedroom.

The smell of bacon fills my noise which follows with another noise, coming from the open space in front of me. Sucking in a deep breath, I leave the comfort of the Master bedroom and head down the small hallway.

To the right of me is a medium size living room that looks practically set up minus a couple of boxes. To the left of me is a four seat table where I would assume would be where you ate. Next to the table sat the entrance, next to that a small table where a couple little boxes sat along with a bowl of keys.

Behind the livingroom sat an open kitchen, a small island sitting in front of the oven. That's when I catch the sight of a back. I recognize it instantly even with it covered in a dark blue shirt instead of black.

"Jace?" I ask, slightly confused and taken back.

Sure enough, I'm met with the same set of brown and blue mixed eyes that I had come to get lost in. He smiles at the sight of me, sounding so cheerful and happy. "Hey! Breakfast is almost ready."

He returns to the food that's in front of him while I slowly walk towards him. Although his back is to me, he still speaks to me. "Clary's party is tonight at 7:00 but I figured we could meet up with her beforehand if you wanted too."

By the end of Jace's sentence, I'm by his side, looking over the food. Bacon, eggs, and toast. When I look back at him, he's leaning down and giving me a quick kiss that I can't help but return.

A smile cracks as he pulls away and whispers against my lips, "Or we could do other things."

I can feel it, the fall into this world. My heart races and I can't help but smile from ear to ear like I know exactly what he's talking about. But the sudden pinch in my heart pulls me back.

Covering up any face I may have just made, I laugh softly and watch as he returns to the food.

"Um, where are we?"

Jace turns to look at me, pulling his eyes together in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, whose place is this?" I asked, my eyes looking around the open concept. Sure, I have an idea that this place is mine, but it's just mine. Right?

Cracking a half smile, but still confused, Jace turns fully to me, "It's ours. You sure you didn't hit your head last night? I mean, I know it was kind of rough but-"

My eyes go wide at his words, my mind being able to put two and two together now. I quick cut him off, shaking my head, "No, no. Um, no I'm fine. I think I just had one of those dreams where it felt really real and I was just making sure this wasn't one of them."

Oh my god! What is this place?

Jace returns to the food, nodding as if he understood my make believe story. "I know how weird your dreams can get, so I get it." Nice to know my dreams are just as weird here as they were before.

Setting the spatula down, Jace turns to me, wrapping his arms around my waste and pulling me close to him. I can feel my body react and I slip my hands around his neck. "You are in our apartment that you and I bought together two weeks ago."

"And my sister?" I ask?

"Probable at your parents place right now. You sure you're okay?" Jace asked, looking at me slightly worried.

I nod, trying to convince him and myself. "Yeah, um, I think I'm just going to call her for a minute. You know, talk about that party that's tonight." I cover any nerves with a lean in, kissing his lips gentle before pulling away and whispering against them. "And, your bacon is burning."

"Crap!" Jace pulls away, quickly returning to the bacon as we both let out a laugh.

My eyes catch sight of my phone on the island and I swipe it up before disappearing back into Jace and I's room.

Luckily, Clary's number is still the same, letting me dial her number. The phone rings twice before Clary answers. "Faith? Oh my God! You won't believe what my life is like here." Her voice is telling me how shocked she is.

"Yeah, I don't think you'll believe me either," I said, my eyes glancing over the room.

Clary carried on, "Valentine is my dad and he and mom are... happy. Like they're really happy and he's really nice."

"Jesus," I breathed out just wondering what he'd be like.

"What about you?"

I started to pace the room as I spoke. "Well, good news is that Jace and I are together in this world. Other news, we've apparently moved in together two weeks ago. And..." I pause, thinking for a second. How do you tell your sister you've apparently been sleeping with Jace? "... Some other things have apparently went down."

"What other things?" My curious sister asked?

Shaking my head and waving my hand in the air, I said, "Long story." No way was I going into detail about this right now. "We need to find Magnus and find out where this portal is."

"Okay, meet me at his place in twenty minutes."

"Alright. Bye," I said, hanging up the phone.

Sucking in another breath, I re-opened the door and walked back out into the kitchen. Jace had two plates set with food on the table, just sitting down with a cup of coffee.

I took the seat next to him and starred at my food. I wasn't that hungry but the food looked and smelled so good that I couldn't help but drool a little.

"So, you and Clary going to do something beforehand?" Jace asked, digging into his food.

"Um, yeah. I'll probably go hang out with her in a little bit," I said, taking a piece of bacon and taking a bite. I couldn't help the hum that left my mouth as I closed my eyes in satisfaction.

Jace chuckled, watching me admiringly.

I could feel it again, slipping back into this world. This time, it wasn't just my mind but my body and words.

"You know, I'm surprised you didn't burn the eggs like last time."

Chuckling, Jace nodded, "I've learned a few things since last time I tried to make you breakfast."

"You mean yesterday?" I asked, smirking at him. Jace looked at the plate with a look that said he was caught. I swiped some of my egg onto my toast and took a bite. "Well, it taste amazing, so you can tell the shelf hiding in the closet that he did a good job."

Jace lightly hit my arm, making us both let out a laugh.

There it was again, the pinch in my heart that pulled me back to my real mind. I caught myself, setting down the toast. "Um, I have to go meet with Clary, but I'll be back later to get ready for the party."

I stood up, grabbing my phone and slipping it into my jean back pocket.

"Okay, have fun. Love you," He said, looking up at me.

My body freezes as I look at Jace with a parted mouth. His words. I've never heard him say it before, but in this world he's clearly said it enough. I can't help but blush like a little kid as I look down at the ground.

"Love you too," I said before looking back up at him. I lean over, giving him a quick peak before I can be pulled back into this world.

Grabbing my leather jacket, keys, and wallet, I head out the door and to my familiar car that is parked outside. I head off to Magnus' place, finding Clary parked outside, waiting.

Climbing out, I jog over to her. "Sorry I'm late, I had an interesting breakfast."

"You have no idea," Clary said, staying in step with me as we walked inside of Magnus' place. We followed the steps and hallways to his room where he stood. He looked up from the table in front of him, smiling in a way that I don't think I've ever seen him do before.

"Ah, hello. Have you two come to get your fortunes read?"

I turn to Clary, only she doesn't share my confused look towards Magnus' words.

She catches mine though, waving her hand at the look, "Long story." She directs her words to Magnus, getting back to the task at hand. "We know you're a warlock, Magnus. We're Shadowhunters."

Magnus bursts into a laughter, "There are no more Shadowhunters. Haven't been for hundreds of years."

"I can prove it," She said, looking around. She grabs a pen and a piece of paper, doing a quick drawing of a demon and an angel fighting. "We're from an alternate reality," She stats before handing the picture over.

Taking the picture cautiously, Magnus looks at it, his eyes going wide. Magnus shakes his head as he tries to deny the picture. "If that were true without an anchor, you'd both be assimilating into this world."

I cross my arms, mumbling, "Yeah, and Jace and I lose our Connection. Don't remind me."

Magnus turns to me, catching my words, "Connection? You mean as in-"

"Shadowhunter's Connection where we're both meant to be and all that stuff, yeah. Which is why we need your help. In our dimension, Shadowhunters still battle demons. And now there is something so much worse. We need your magic to help us stop it," I said, getting to the point as I lower my arms.

The Warlock before us sighs, "I can't help you. My magic's gone dormant."

"Then wake it up," Clary gestures with her hands.

Magnus looked between the two of us before going over to a table near the window. He starts to take what looks like potions from the shelf above him and throwing them into a large bowl that's sat there.

The room is silent as he mixes a few things before pouring some in a cup. He lets out a sigh as he stares at the cup, "This better work."

"What does that do?" Clary asks?

Magnus downs the cup, grimacing at the taste as his body shakes a little. "Hopefully kick-start my magic."

Once again, the room pauses in silence, both Clary and I staring at Magnus who is staring off.

"And?" I asked, slightly impatient.

Magnus doesn't answer for another minute before he sighs. "This isn't working. This is the longest I've ever abstained. From a lot of things," He adds the last few words as he makes his Magnus face.

Clary let out an annoyed before she looks around, "Why don't you just try something simple? Move that," She says, pointing to the flame on a candle near him. Magnus stares at it for a second, trying to lightly move his hand for the flame to move but nothing happens. "Magnus, we just have to find the Portal."

Throwing his arms out, Magnus comments, "Even if my magic was working, I'd still need an energy signature of some kind to track it."

My eyes glance over to the large purple rock around Clary's neck. She must have put it on after Jace gave it to her. "Maybe we try something different. Clary, your necklace," I said, nodding towards the necklace.

"I don't know how this came into this dimension with me," She comments as she takes it off. She hands it over to Magnus who takes it with wondering eyes.

"Because it's of this dimension. It belongs here," He explains. The second his fingers touch it, a pulsating noise is heard. Magnus quickly smiles wide at the sound and feeling, "Oh. Now that's what I'm talking about." He looks up at Clary and I with a nod, "We have lift off. The energy is very faint. It's been dormant for a long time. Like me. Let's see if we can wake it up."

Magnus inhales deeply, pausing as he closes his eyes.

"Can you see it?" I asked, hoping for a confident answer.

"Yes. It's in a subbasement of Fort Knox."

Clary's eyes go wide, "Like, literally Fort-"

Magnus opens his eyes, "No, but it might as well be. The Institute."

"Why is that a problem?" I asked, confused.

"High tech, high security. Impossible to get into," Magnus says like it's obvious.

Clary smiles next to me, "And hosting an anniversary party tonight that I have the hookup to." Her phone chimes in her pocket, causing her to quickly pull it out and examine it. A curse word leaves her lips in a mumble, "Damn."

She looks up at Magnus, pointing to him, "Meet me tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Institute. Dress to impress." She then turns to me, nodding for me to follow her, "Come on."

I stop her movements, causing her to look at me as I speak. "Actually, I better head back to Jace. My stuff is there anyways so..." my voice trails off.

"Okay, just be careful," She nods to me, making me nod in response.

We both leave Magnus to retrieve his powers. I climb into my car while Clary's Uber arrives. Part of me wanted to offer to give her a ride but the other part of me still wasn't ready to face Valentine. Nor mom.

I head back to the apartment buildings, making my up the steps to the second floor where my apartments sits. Unlocking the door, I step inside, laying my keys and money in the bowl. The box that was sitting next to it before is now gone and replaced with a decorative piece.

The boxes in the livingroom are still there, but Jace is no where's to be found. "Jace?" I ask, taking off my jacket and stepping deeper into the room.

"Hold on!" Jace yells from down the hallway and into our bedroom. The door is open just a crack, leaving me to no view of Jace. I head down the hallway slowly before opening the door. Jace is quick to stand up from the side table and turn to look at me. "Hey. How's Clary?"

"Fine," I say, looking at him questionable. Okay, and I'm the weird one?

Shaking my head as I step into the room, I comment. "Um, I have to figure out what I'm wearing tonight."

"Oh, I thought you already had a dress picked out? You know if you don't wear the dress Izzy and Alec picked out for you, they'll lose it."

Okay, Izzy I get but Alec picking out my outfit? I don't even want to know.

I faintly laugh, nodding slightly in agreement, "Yeah. Wear did I put that dress anyways?"

Jace looks at me worriedly, "In the closet." He takes a step towards me and lays one of his hands on my cheek. "Faith, is everything okay?"

Even in this Jace, I feel like I could get lost in his eyes. He feels so real. He looks and acts so much like my Jace it's almost scary.

I don't know how to respond. Clearly me saying I'm fine or blaming it on a dream isn't working so I need to come up with something else. But, for once, nothing comes to mind and I'm left on the line between my world and this world.

Before I can put a second thought into it all, I feel my body lean forward and my lips press against his. Jace is taken back for a second but wastes no time kissing me back. He lays his free hand on my waste while I wrap my arms around his neck and deepen the kiss.

Even I don't know if this is me or this world pulling me deeper into it. Either way, for a minute, even in this world, I just want to enjoy Jace with no interruptions.

I swear I don't think I've ever had that long of a make-out session before. But I didn't complain one bit, not until I felt that pinch in my heart, this time with such a force that I had to pull away from Jace.

Jace looked at me slightly worried, "You okay?"

"Yeah, um, I should get ready for Clary's party, and so should you," I said, nervously.

I'm slipping deeper into this world, I can feel it.

Before Jace can respond I walk over to the right door where it seemed my side of the bed sat. As I had thought, it was one of the entrances to the large walk in closet. A dress sat on a hanger outside of the rack of close, claiming it's spot as the dress that I'd ware tonight.

Even in this world, it seemed the taste that my stylists had were to reveal a lot of skin.

After getting dressed and throwing my hair up into a high bun, that consisted of a few strains shaping my face, I did my make-up. It was light and simple since the dress was clearly enough.

Jace walked in dressed in a suit, taking me back to when we first went to go see Magnus and he had to ware one. Even in this world, he looked slightly uncomfortable in it but seemed to adjust to it.

"Wow, you look-"

"Badass?" I asked, catching myself as I seemed to take a minute back in time.

With a chuckle as Jace crossed the room over to me, he took my hands. "I was going to say beautiful but yeah, Badass works."

My heart skipped a beat as I stared up at Jace. I would be lying if I said there wasn't a part of me that didn't want to stay here. But I could never leave my Jace behind. To tar our Connection apart could hurt him. Or worst. And I love him too much to ever hurt him.

This isn't my Jace. My Jace is back in my world, probable board pacing or fighting off some demons that want to get through. My Jace wears black and leather, fingerless gloves. My Jace is mine, and this Jace is this world's Faith.

Letting out a sigh, I look at our hands clamped together. "We should get going," I said before looking back up at him.

Jace side steps, releasing one hand but holds onto the other as we leave the room and apartment.

We arrive at the party which is half crowded with people. I recognize some but put those faces to the back of my mind for now. That is, until I come across Valentine and my mom standing together, talking to one another with wide smiles.

I expected to see my mom and curse her out for what she's done. And maybe I will in my world, but in this I can only mumble out, "Mom." Quickly, I turn to Jace, releasing his hand that he only broke to open my car door. "I'll be right back."

"Okay," Jace nods before turning to one of the guys and starting up a conversation.

Another difference, Jace wouldn't talk to anyone but me and maybe Clary.

Turning, I rush over towards my mom, making my brain erase Valentine for a moment. Jocelynn turns, catching me with a smile, "Hi, Sweetie-" I cut her off with my arms engulfing her in a hug.

The action takes my mom by surprised but she lets out a small chuckle. "Wow, I'm just getting all the hugs today." Non-the-less she wraps her arms around me and soothingly rubs my back.

I want to live in the moment a second longer but Valentine's voice behind me makes me pull away and face him. "Well, I'm getting kind of jealous." He has a faint smile on his face that makes me question Clary's past words. But then he holds out his hand with a bigger smile, "Our song is playing."

For a second I pause, looking at his hand before taking it hesitantly. He moves us over to the medium size dance floor, the building becoming unrecognizable even more as the Institute.

We places one hand on my waste while the other goes to my hand. I lay one hand on his shoulder before taking his other. The action is nerve racking but I get through it as we start to slowly sway.

"I see your friends helped dress you for tonight," Valentine says, nodding to my outfit. I expect him, a dad, to scrunch his noise up at the dress or yell at me for showing to much skin, but he doesn't seem to do either.

Nodding slightly, I play my act as best as I can, "Yeah, you know me. Not much of a stylist."

Valentine shrugs and looks off for a second before looking back at me with a smile. "I wouldn't say that. You just need to add more color besides purple and black to your wardrobe."

I can't help but crack a smile and nod in agreement. There is a pause where the music just takes over, but even then I can't seem to listen to the song to know it. Instead, my brain wanders and I think of a question.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Anything," Valentine stats.

"What do you think of me?"

Valentine looks at me confused, but he doesn't stop his movements. "You and Clary sure are asking some strange questions today."

"Sorry, just, somethings have been on our minds," I said, speaking somewhat honestly.

I'm surprised when Valentine looks above me and thinks for a second before speaking up, "When I see you, I think... Kind. Caring. Strong. Determined. And most of all, I see my daughter."

My eyes fall at his words. In this world, I must somehow be Valentine's daughter, putting Luke out of my life.

Valentine let's out a sigh as he looks away from me, "I just ruined the moment again, didn't I?"

This conversation must be one that's been said before by his words, making me question my thoughts.

"No, just..."

"That I'm not your blood dad," He seems to finish my non-excitant thoughts. I look at him surprised, seeming to confirm that I am someone else's even in this world. Yet, he seems so nice to me.

He sighs, nodding, "I know that. You made sure to remind me all the time, but like I've said before, I'll be whatever you want me to be. Okay?"

I pause, only able to nod slightly and mumble an, "Okay."

Clary was right, this Valentine is completely different.

The sudden tap on Valentine's shoulder makes us stop and turn to the man behind him. Jace is standing there, making Valentine sigh. "Ah, yes. You wish to steal my daughter from me?"

Jace looks nervous which only makes Valentine smirk as he says, "Have fun." He turns to me, giving me a small nod before returning to my mother. Jace takes his spot, only Jace puts his hands on my hips while mine wrap around his neck.

"Thanks for that," I said as we start to sway to a new song.

"For what? Saving you from your dad before he starts making sly comments about how fast you're moving on with me?" We both look at each other with a smile and let out a chuckle at his words.

There is a small pause where I just duck my head and enjoy the moment. That is, until Jace speaks up.

"Do you ever think that?"

"What?" I ask, looking at him questionable.

"That we're moving too fast?" He answers, almost nervous of my own answer.

I pause, thinking of his words as I search for an answer that respects this world's Faith's thoughts and my own. "I think when something comes so natural there is no such thing as speed. You just, do what you think is right."

Jace smiles in an admiring way as he looks at me. "I love you so much, Faith."

Even though it's my second time hearing those words, I still am taken back by them. But like before I respond the same way, "I love you too, Jace." He leans in, kissing my cheek before laying his head against my shoulder as he holds me in a hug as we sway.

My eyes catch sight of Clary walking towards a back door with Magnus, tearing me from the moment and from Jace. "Um, Jace, I have to go."

Jace quickly catches my hand before I can fully turn to leave. "Wait, I have to ask you something, and if I don't now, I'm going to chicken out again like last time."

"I'm sorry, I really have to go though," I say, my eyes on Clary who is waiting by the door for me. I feel Jace release my hand and I turn to look at him. I take a step back in shock as I look down at a bending knee Jace. He has a small box in his hand that is opened to reveal a ring.

I look around, finding everyone looking at the two of us, smiling. Even my mom and Valentine are waiting with excitement.

"Faith, I love you so much. You know me better than anyone. You were my best friend, my first love, and now, if you'll do me the honor, of becoming my partner. Will you marry me?"

I'm frozen in my spot at the scene that's before me. I'm slipping which causes another shot of pain to puncture my heart and I can't help but open my mouth in slight pain.

I have to get out of here.

Stammering in shock, I shake my head, "I... Um... I have to go." Quickly, I turn and head towards the open door that Clary is holding for me. I don't look at anyone but can already tell they match Clary's shocked expression as we disappear into the backway.

"Faith..." Clary stops me before I can go deeper into the room.

I waved my hand and shook my head, "Yeah, I know. Let's just get this over with."

Clary looks at me sympathetically before we go deeper into the room. Rose of shelves carrying extra supplies stand around. But before I can get a good look at anything, Jace is bursting through the door.

"Faith! What was that?" Jace half yells, almost angry as he makes his way over to me. Clary takes a step back, leaving the conversation.

A sigh leaves my lips as my head begins to hurt and spin. "Jace, I'm so sorry... I just, have something I need to do."

"I probably would have chalked it up as moving too fast but you just said speed didn't matter if it felt right. And this feels right, doesn't it?" Jace asks, almost hurt.

It's scary how much it does, how easy all of this is. "You have no idea," I answer, my heart and mind racing with confusion. Before either one of us can speak up, a tall, grey creature down from the ceiling behind Jace.

Out of instinct, I push Jace aside and kick the creature, knocking it back into some boxes.

"What the hell is that thing?" Jace looks at me scared to death.

When my eyes return to the creature, he's disappeared from the boxes and is gone. My eyes look around but don't spot him.

I can hear Jace next to me, breathing heavily as if he's having a panic attack. I take his hand and lead him over to one of the shelves. He grabs onto them, trying to calm his breath while Clary goes over to Magnus and helps him look for the portal.

My hand rubs Jace's back as he looks at the floor so pale I think he might be sick. Suddenly, where my hand touches his back, I feel this spark. Electricity runs up my arm and throughout my body. I feel my eyes turn gold for a second with Jace's doing the same.

I know that feeling anywhere.

Jace rises his head and looks at me. "Jace?" I ask, slightly shocked and almost upset that there is a chance it won't be and it was just this world pulling me back towards it.

He nods, his color back to normal and the look of fear in his eyes gone, "Yeah. You okay?"

I let out a sigh of relief as I wrap my arms around him and burry my head into his chest.

Jace, confused, hugs me back for a second before pulling away and looking at me worriedly. "Mind filling me in?"

"It's a long story," I said with a shake of my head and a faint smile.

Suddenly, the grey demon from before jumps down near us, grabbing the shelves Jace was just hanging onto. He yanks them, sending them flying on top of us. Jace quickly grabs me, covering me as the shelves land on top of us.

I'm pinned by the shelves with Jace next to me. The demon climbs on top of the shelves, growling as it looks down at us. Both Jace and I struggle to get free but are stuck.

The demon stretches out a tale that has a sharp, needle like poke at the end of it. It goes to strike me but Jace quickly ducks over me, causing it to pierce his neck.

"Jace! Clary! Clary!" I yell, trying to pry the shelving unit off of me.

Magnus and Clary run over, both looking at the scene before them in shock. Magnus uses his powers to throw the demon away from us, a piece of wood piercing and killing the demon.

Clary runs over to us, helping us lift the unit off of us and slide out.

Jace climbs out, grunting and groaning as he shakes. Already, his forehead is sweating, causing him to take off his jacket.

I move over to him, kneeling by him and holding him in my arms. "Jace? Jace, it's okay, it's okay. Breathe. Jace?"

"Where's my stele?" Jace asks, his hand looking in his pocket to find nothing but the ring box.

"It didn't come through with you," I state.

Both of us decide to ignore the ring box as Magnus joins us, examining the prick on Jace's neck. "You're gonna need more than a stele for that."

Clary, who is kneeling down next to me, looks up at Magnus, "Will Portaling him back to his own body cure him?"

Magnus shakes his head, "No. Blood travels with you. The demon venom is in his blood."

I can feel Jace as he still groans and grunts in pain. He's fighting whatever venom is in him, but is struggling.

"Then we have to get him back to the Institute in our dimension," I say, my words coming out fast in fear and worry.

Jace speaks up, sounding groggy like he was crying all night and then woke up. "No, we've gotta find Valentine."

I shake my head, "Jace, you're in no condition to fight."

Magnus speaks up, looking down at both of us. "And if you two really are connected then Faith won't be at her full strength either."

Jace's eyes stare into mine, showing fear and determination. "We might not get another chance, Faith. This is too important."

I want to ignore his request and force him back to the Institute. I want to kill that demon all over again for doing this to Jace. But I don't do either of those things, because I know my Jace all too well.

"We found the portal," Clary says, looking at me like her words will help. They do, while at the same time they don't.

A groan leaves my lips, "Come on," I say, throwing Jace's arm over my shoulders. Clary does the same as we try to steady Jace up on his feet. Even my own body wavers a little causing me to strengthen my steps.

We follow Magnus to the back wall. He waves his hands in a fancy way which causes the portal to open and appear.

Jace looks at Magnus, "You'll have to destroy the Portal after we go through."

"Why?"

"To secure your dimension from all sides. Otherwise, if it stays open, you'll be vulnerable to demon attacks again." Jace, even with venom in his system, still seems to put others first.

Magnus nodded in understanding as he looked at the Shadowhunter before him worried. "I'll take care of it and the malodorous monstrosity on that table."

"Thank you," I nod to him before stepping through the portal with Jace.

I feel my body getting sucked through the portal like before. Everything is black with nothing but a picture in my mind to reveal color. In seconds, we're there, both Jace and I seeming to land on the ground with a thud.

Clary follows soon after, all of us letting out groans. We're back to our normal clothes but the building before us isn't anything we recognize at the moment.

I quickly check on Jace who pulls out his Stele and groans in pain. "Jace. It's okay. It's okay. I'm here, it's okay."

Jace quickly burns a ruin into his stomach, one I recognize to help with pain. But even afterwards, he's still grunting slightly in pain.

"Magnus was right. It's not working," I said, shaking my head worriedly.

"It's enough," Jace nods. He starts to sit up, causing my hands to help him as he straightens his posture. I can feel myself getting stronger, but even then I still feel like something dark and sickening is swimming through my bloodstream, waiting to take me down again.

I finally get a good look at the building, it looking like something Clary drew when she saw Valentine and our mother. Clary is standing in front of a lab set up on a table, grabbing Jace and I's attention.

"What is all this?"

"The makings of an army," Jace said, his voice slightly returning to him. He looks around, noticing the same thing we did. "There's no one here."

Clary let out a sigh next to me, "Did Meliorn lie to us? He said that that Portal would take us to my father."

There is a sudden banging noise, causing the three of us to jump and gasp slightly. The banging leads itself to a set of giant lockers.

Jace pulls out his blade, one of his hands pushing me behind him protectively, "Get behind me." The three of us approach the locker doors, Jace taking the lead. The banging continues, only to stop when we unlock the locker and swing it open.

I'm equally shocked and confused when we find a man sitting on the ground, shaking and scared. But what throws me off even more is when Jace takes a step back and shakes his head. "It can't be. It can't be. You died. I saw it."

"Jace?" I ask worriedly, stepping out so I'm right next to him.

The man in the locker looks at Jace shocked, "Jace? Is it really you?"

My eyes look between Jace and the man, my brain scrambling to figure this out. "Jace, how do you know this man?"

Jace pauses as he looks at me, revealing the tears in his eyes. "He's my father."

I know it's been awhile so I made sure to make this an extra long chapter with a lot of Jace and Faith moment. Sort of. Let me know what you thought of Faith and other damnation Jace.

We're in the middle of possible/probable moving and it's been beyond stressful because we don't have a lot of money. Hopefully, I'll be able to provide you with updates more frequently, but I can't make any promises.

Follow me to make sure you get my updated conversations on my wall.

Hope you like and comment!
