Chapter 36

Chapter 36

Faith's POV

Jace and I lay in bed, our hands playing with each other in the air as we watch them.

"I don't want to get up," I said, dropping my hand and hiding my face into his chest.

A sigh left Jace's lips, "Alec asked for us to meet him in his office."

Confused, I rose my head and looked at him, "When?"

"About an hour ago," Jace said with a small smile. His words made my eyes go wide before I quickly jumped out of bed and changed my clothes. "There's no need to rush, we're already late."

"Yeah, but there's no reason to be more late," I said, slipping a shirt over my head and eyeing Jace who still laid in bed.

Jace chuckled, "Well, I think an hour is pretty late."

Tying my shoes, I glanced up at Jace, "Well, I'll have to let him know that, that was your fault. No need for both of us to get in trouble." Standing up and letting out a huff, I smirked, "And you're still not dressed so mine is more believable."

Those words caused Jace to roll his eyes and stand, slipping on some clothes as quickly as he could while mumbling something under his breath. Once we were both ready, we headed to Alec's office, opening the door to find Sebastian there.

Alec looked up at us, "You're late."

"Jace's fault," I said, throwing my thumbing behind me, towards Jace.

"Yeah, sure it was."

"It was."

"Alright!" Alec said, shutting us both up. "You two are already acting like a married couple," He mumbled, making me blush slightly. Alec leaned on his desk, "I have requested that we move Valentine to the Gard in Idris. The Clave has approved the transfer."

Jace's eyes went wide and he took a step towards Alec, "What, you told them about the assassination attempt?"

"No. I explained to them that moving Valentine out of the city is the best way to restore relations with the Downworld." Alec looked at me, "I left Luke out of it."

"Thank you," I said, grateful and causing Alec to nod to me in response.

Sebastian spoke up, reminding me he was here, "It is the right decision."

Alec nodded, but put up one hand, "But we have not given up finding who orchestrated the hit on Valentine."

"I actually have a few leads on that. I'll, um, I'll get a report in by the end of the day," Sebastian said.

Alec nodded, "Great." It was silent until Sebastian left, leaving Alec, Jace, and I alone. Alec turned his attention onto Jace then me, "Jace, you'll be leading the transfer mission. Faith, you will assist."

Jace sighed, and nodded, "We need to remove Valentine's Circle rune. The new wards in Idris won't let him pass with it on."

I crossed my arms, "Well, as great as that sounds, I think this one is Jace's job."

Jace looked at me, smiling, "I thought you'd never ask."

Now he was excited.

Alec sighing and lowering his head made Jace and I look at him. He paused for a moment before rising his head, "Tell me that I'm making the right call, 'cause I'm just not sure I'm good at this."

I spoke up, "Alec you were born for this. Even when Clary and I first came here you acted like you were already in charge. This should be a piece of cake."

"Faith's right. Think of it like archery, okay? Just trust yourself and don't hesitate, and beyond that, just cross your fingers."

Alec nodded while Jace and I smiled before turning and walking out of his office.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a bad feeling about this, but I had hoped that it was excitement or even just nerves instead of my gut telling me something else.

Laying my hand on Jace's arm, I stopped us both in the hallway, "I'm going to talk to Clary. Maybe she'd even like to join us."

"That's a good idea. Good luck."

"Thanks," I smiled, leaning in and giving him a small kiss before turning down Clary's hallway.

Stopping at her door, I knocked, something she never really did in the beginning.

"Come in," I heard my sister's voice through the door, causing me to enter. She was setting her phone down, probable talking to Simon.

Deciding to just get to the point, I walked in further before smiling slightly. "Hey, we're transferring Valentine to Idris tonight. I thought maybe you would like to join us."

"Yeah, actually, I don't. I have to go sort all this out with Simon in person."

I sighed, recalling the past events that lead us to this uncomfortable state we were now in. Sitting on the edge of her bed, I crossed a line I truthfully never thought I would.

Giving relationship advice.

"Clary, I'm so sorry about everything that's happen. But after everything that's happen, maybe you should give Simon some time."

Shaking her head as tears threatened her eyes, Clary looked at me, "No. No, I can't let him think that what happened in the Seelie Court is how I really feel. It was in the past."

Putting my hand on her's, I nodded, "I know, but you do have to be prepared for him to take some time away and sort things out. Once he realizes how much he misses you, needs you, he'll be back. It may not be the same right away, but something is better than nothing."

"Sometimes," Clary mumbled.

I didn't know how to respond. If the roles were reversed, I'd be happy to have Jace just in my life, no matter what we were. But now that I've gotten a taste of a relationship with Jace I don't know how I could ever go back.

Giving my sister's hand a squeeze, I stood up in silence and turned to walk away. My sister's words stopped me.

"Faith. I really am happy for you though."

"I only hope someday you will be too," I said, giving her a reassuring smile before leaving.

Well, I guess it's just Jace and I.

Heading down to the cell room, I came to a stop outside the door as Valentine's screams filled my ears.

Maybe this isn't for me. I mean, I know what Valentine has done and I want him to suffer, to pay, but actually hearing it is another story.

Shaking my head, I turned around and decided to waste some time. I called up Luke and met him at a bar, hoping to talk to him about everything.

We ordered a drink and I rose it up to my lips as I looked at my dad. "Has Clary talked to you?"

"Yeah, she's pretty upset, so is Simon."

"Yeah, it's been a long week," I mumbled, looking down. My eyes caught sight of my ring on my hand and I couldn't help but lightly hit my glass with it.

"So I've heard." Luke suddenly paused and smiled, "I heard Jace purposed."

My head rose and I looked at Luke with sympathy. "I was going to tell you, it's just with-"

"I already knew," Luke stopped me, making me look at him confused. My look caused a small chuckle to leave his lips, "Jace came to me and asked if he could marry you."

"What did you say?" I asked, smiling slightly at the thought.

Luke leaned back and shrugged, "I said of course. What kind of person would I be if I said no to my daughter's connection?"

I nod and we both chuckled for a moment before we finished up our drinks. "Well, I better go. Jace and I are transferring Valentine to Idris."

"The farther he is, the better."

"Couldn't agree more," I said, standing and grabbing my jacket. I slipped it on before Luke and I hugged each other.

"I love you so much," Luke mumbled.

"I love you too," I whispered back before turning and leaving.

I took my time getting back to the Institute, still getting this nerve racking feeling in the pit of my stomach. Usually I was one to mention what I was feeling, but this time I kept my mouth shut, not wanting to rise nerves for anyone during this transfer.

Ten minutes tops.

Meeting up with Jace, we headed back down to the cells were Alec, Magnus, and some guards stood in wait. Two guards locked Valentine in chains before standing him in front of all of us.

Alec spoke up, standing tall and speaking proud. "Valentine Morgenstern, by order of the Clave, you are hereby remanded to the Gard in Idris."

I turn and nod to Magnus who turns and waves his hand, opening a portal.

Valentine scuffed, and glared at Magnus, "I may be in a cell, but at least I'll be in Alicante, where the air doesn't reek of Downworlders."

"Get him out of here," Alec commanded.

"Gladly," I said.

Jace and I along with two guards go through the portal first, followed up Valentine, and two more guards. It takes a second but we enter Alicante, finding more guards and a consul men. Malachi Dieudonné.

We stood before the consul man, watching as his eyes squinted in confusion, "Where's the prisoner?"

Jace and I quickly turned around, finding the two guards that were right behind us and only one of the guards that was behind Valentine. Both Valentine and one of his guards, Duncan were gone.

"He was right behind us," I said, shocked.

"What happened to Duncan?" Jace asked me, causing me to shake my head.

"Where the Angel is Valentine" Malachi yelled behind us.

I knew I should have listened to my gut.
