Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Faith's POV

Izzy kicked the door open of Sebastian's apartment, letting Clary, Jace, and I enter with blades ready. A figure sits in a chair, his back to us.

"Turn around and face us," Jace orders.

"Where's Valentine?" Izzy asked in anger.

Nothing, no movement, no words, nothing. Izzy reaches out, turning the chair around and revealing the real Sebastian with black eyes and lips, dead.

"What happened to him?" I asked in shock as all of us lowering our blades.

"Did Valentine kill him?" Clary asked?

Izzy looked him over, "He's been dead for days by the looks of it."

"Tortured first. This was the real Sebastian Verlac," Jace says and closes the real Sebastian's eyes, "Ave atque vale."

"Hail and farewell," We all say.

Suddenly, Sebastian's body starts to shake and a growl leaves his lips. I grab Jace's arm and pull him back just as Sebastian wakes up, turning into a demon. He jumps out of the chair and onto the wall, hissing at us.

We all pull out our weapons as Jace says, "It's a possessing demon."

Izzy uses her whip to pull the demon down, causing him to land on the ground with a thud. Jace uses that moment and pierces the demon with his blade. Sebastian shakes before bursting into a fire that shrinks to ash.

"We'll make 'em pay for what they did to you," Izzy says.

"We're going to make them pay for everything," Clary said.

The four of us head back to Institute, meeting with Alec in his office. He calls up Imogen on the phone, putting her on speaker as he fills her in.

"A possessing demon wouldn't have done this on its own. The trap could only have been set using the Mortal Cup to command it."

"So he had it all along," Imogen said with a heavy sigh.

"And our Intel shows he's also in possession of the Mortal Sword."

"Do you have any good news for me today, Mr. Lightwood?"

"Valentine and Jonathan believe that the New York Institute is in possession of the Mortal Mirror. They won't leave the city without it."

"Thank the Angel that at least he wasn't able to find that."

"But we were. Faith?" Alec says and looks at me.

I speak up, looking at the phone as if I'm looking at Imogen. "The gift the Angel gave to me, to see the future, also lets me see things in a different light. The Mirror is in Idris. It's Lake Lyn."

Imogen sounds surprised, "That's the very same water that Raziel first rose from. Who else knows about this?"

Jace sighs, crossing his arms, "Unfortunately, the number of people we can trust is getting smaller by the day. We thought it'd be best to tell you first. And we'd like to officially request soldiers from the Gard to be placed in the surrounding woods around the lake."

"It may only be a matter of time before Valentine realizes he's been had," Clary adds.

Imogen paused, "I'll speak to Consul Malachi about deployment at once. Good hunting." She hangs up, ending the call.

Jace looks at everyone, "So, what do we do now?"

"There's only nine million people in the metro area. How hard could it be to find two?" Clary says sarcastically.

Alec shook his head, "The job is too big to go alone. We need to ask for help."

"From who, Alec?"

He pauses before looking at us, "From everyone."

I cross my arms, nodding my head, "Well, this should be interesting."

We called up the Seelie Queen, Raphael, Magnus, and Luke, having them all meet with us in a meeting room at the institute. Jace, Alec, and I approach them, seeming to grab everyone's attention.

"Thank you all for coming," Alec said, and everyone looked at the Seelie Queen.

"I speak on behalf of the Downworld," She said with a faint smile.

Confused like all of us, Alec looked to Magnus, "Magnus, is this true?" He didn't respond.

"Henceforth, when you need anything from the Downworld, you shall address me, Mr. Lightwood. Such is the nature of our new agreement."

"Your Highness, Valentine believes that the Institute has the Mortal Mirror and he's not going to leave the city without it. I would like the Downworld's help in locating him."

"In order to capture him, so that he might escape once again?"

I took a step towards the table, "In order to kill him, so this can finally end."

"Why should we believe any of you?" The Queen asked?

Alec extended his arm, "I founded this council to make things more transparent between the Downworld and the Clave."

"And how has that been going?" She cut Jace off, causing him to sigh. She stood up, looking between all of us, "For far too long, the Downworld has depended on the Clave and your Institute to protect us from men like Valentine. It's time we learned our lesson and started fighting for ourselves."

Jace took a step, "We can't do this alone. Valentine is a threat to all of us."

"The answer, Shadowhunters, is no," The queen looked to Luke, Raphael, and Magnus, "Come along." Magnus and Raphael followed the Seelie Queen while Luke slowly walked with Jace and me out.

Jace sighed in slight frustration, "I'd say, "Let us know what you find out", but you're not allowed to do that anymore, are you?"

"Sorry it had to be like this."

"Well, as long as one side catches them, that's all that matters, right?" Jace said and Luke nodded. His eyes went to me, seeing the fear in them.

"Hey, we'll end this," Luke said to me and I nodded, hoping he was right.

My arms wrapped themselves around him while his did the same. "No matter what, don't let either of them leave the city."

Luke pulled away, "Me and my wolves will die trying."

I gave him a half smile, "Please, don't." He nodded before turning and leaving. Jace took my hand, making me look at him, the hope that we could win this shrinking more.

With no help from anyone, we were on our own. Shadowhunters kept a lookout but seemed to come up empty handed like many others. That is, until we got a call from my dad.

"I thought you weren't supposed to be helping us?" Clary asked while I had him on speaker with Jace in the room also.

"Consider this an anonymous tip. We ran down Valentine's Circle members, but we lost Valentine when Jonathan grabbed him and pinballed up three fire escapes and leapt out of sight. He moved like a demon."

"That's because he is one," I sigh.

Jace pulled up a holographic map of the city while we talked.

Luke continued, "By order of the queen. Warlocks have put up wards all around the city. No Portals or travel in or out for anyone with Nephilim blood. A Shadowhunter crosses that threshold, they get vaporized. So be careful. We'll continue the hunt on our end."

"Thanks, Luke," Jace said.

"Good luck," He replied before hanging up.

Jace turned to some Shadowhunters who were looking at the computer screens in search of Valentine. "Hey, spread the word. Shadowhunter movement into and out of the city stops immediately."

"Okay. We're on it," One man said, causing him and a women to stand and start to spread the word.

Alec walked up to us, grabbing our attention, "Isabelle is on her way back with Rufus. Guess who just tried to Portal to Idris? Valentine must know that we don't have the Mirror. And, presumably, where the real one is."

"Look, let's stay focused on what we can control, not what we can't," Jace said, running his hand through his hair.

I put my hand on Jace's shoulder, "We will figure this out."

"So, we're stuck inside the city alone with that man?" Alec asked, causing Jace to nod.

My mind faded, making me think back to a locator rune. An idea, a crazy idea, came to mind. "Actually, I might have an idea. It's a crazy idea and it may not work."

Alec shrugged, "Right now, I'll take crazy."

"I need Jace," I say, nodding to him and causing him to nod. He followed me as we left the group, heading out to the courtyard.

Jace looked around, "So, what's your crazy idea?"

"Well, I had a thought. What if we take something of Sabastian's and use our connection to overpower the tracking?"

Crossing his arms and raising a brow with a small smile, Jace nodded, "Yeah that is a crazy idea." He sighed and shrugged, "Why not though. At least it give us some alone time."

I rolled my eyes as I took off my jacket, "No smart ideas Wayland." I nodded towards his shirt, "Shirt off."

"I thought you said no smart ideas," He smirked making me playfully hit him. He chuckled before slipping off his shirt, making me stare at his upper body. I sucked in a breath before pulling out my stele and a vial of Jonathan's blood.

Couldn't get any more personal than his blood.

Sliding the stele over my connection rune and then Jace's on his side, I drew the tracking rune over the bottle, watching as it lit up.

Jace met my eyes, both of us staring at each other as one by one our runes lit up. He lifts his hand, pushing a strand of hair out of my face before holding his palm to my cheek. My head falls into his hand before going to his chest as he holds me, the runes on our body growing lighter until there is a sudden burst of energy and Jace and I pull away, breathing heavily.

"Wow," Jace said, making me chuckle and nod, "Yeah."

A flash of the cemetery in the city crosses my mind and Jace's, causing us both to perk up a bit.

"Got him," I say.

"Let's go." He takes my hand before running back inside to get the others.

Izzy, Alec, Jace, and I used a portal to go to the cemetery Jace and I saw Sabastian at. Clary had went to talk with Magnus in hope of changing his mind in helping us.

The day had fallen into night, hiding us from anyone around. But that was the thing, no one was around.

"Why would they hide in a graveyard?" Clary asked?

"They probably raided an old weapons cache," Izzy said, making me recall when Clary and I had first come here and Jace was showing me how to use a weapon. That seemed like a lifetime ago.

Alec stopped, "Let's split up. Teams of two. Jace and I will go this way, Izzy and Faith will go that way. If you see Sabastian or Valentine, let us know. Don't attack until you've called us."

Izzy rolled her eyes, "Yes dad," She mocked before grabbing my arm and tugging me away, causing me to give Jace a reassuring smile before joining Izzy.

Both of us walked around grave stones, heading to different tombs in hopes of finding Valentine or Sabastian.

"Do you really think he's here?" Izzy asked me, both of us with our blades out and ready to attack.

"Jace and I saw this place and Sabastian here. He's got to be around here somewhere."

"So, have you and Jace figured out a date yet?"

I looked at her confused, "Date?"

"For your wedding of course. I better be a bridesmaid," She smiled wide.

A small chuckle left my lips, "Truthfully, we haven't talked about it. With all this going on with Valentine we haven't had time. And yes you would be my bridesmaid."

Izzy smiled at the thought, only for it to return to a serious one ounce we stepped into a tomb. Immediately we came across a women sitting on the ground, crying.

"Miss, are you hurt?" I asked, looking around.

The women stood up, her crying stop before she turned around. Her face and mouth are grey while her teeth are black.

"She's forsaken!" Izzy yelled just as the women jumps towards us. I shove my blade into her stomach, causing her to shriek in pain before falling dead. Just then, a whole army of Forsaken's rush in.

One by one we kill them, using our blades to pierce their bodies and end their suffering. We must have killed twenty of them before the tomb became quiet ounce again.

"Is that all of them?" I asked.

Suddenly, an arrow flew passed Izzy and I, hitting two Forsaken's in the head and killing them. We both turn around to see Alec standing there.

"Now it is," Alec said, lowing how bow.

"Alec, are you okay?" Izzy asked, running up to her brother.

"I'm okay," He nodded.

My eyes look passed Alec for Jace only to find no one there. I immediately grew worried, "Where's Jace?"

"Sabastian. We gotta find him."

Suddenly, there is a loud banging noise coming from behind one of the tomb stones, causing us all to stand on guard. Suddenly, I feel the air get sucked out of my lungs, causing me to grab my throat and gasp.

"Faith!" Izzy says worriedly.

"It's Jace."

"We don't have time for this. Izzy, you and Faith need to get Sebastian. I'll deal with these guys."

"Alec-" I started but he cut me off.

"Izzy's whip can hurt him and you need to save Jace. Go! Now!"

We pause but only for a second before Izzy and I run out of the tomb as Alec gets his bow and arrows ready.

Following the pull of Jace, we run to a metal bridge, finding Sebastian with his sword raised high to strike a blow at Jace who is laying on the ground. Izzy uses her whip, grabbing the sword from Sebastian before yanking it out of his hands.

The two stare down while I sneak around, ignoring they talk and fight as I make my way to Jace.

"Jace, I'm here," I say, laying my hand on his chest. Blood covers him and I look at him worriedly.

"I'm be fine. We need to help Izzy," He says, taking my hand and hoisting himself up. He picks up Sebastian's sword, turning to him and Izzy.

Izzy holds Sebastian in her whip, pulling it back and away from him, causing him to stumble back. He stumbles right into Jace's sword, going through the heart.

"You know the biggest difference between you and me? My family actually loves me," Jace said.

Blood comes out of Sebastian's mouth as Jace pulls the blade out. Sebastian slowly turns to Jace, and grabs him by the throat, squeezing it.

I come up, kicking Sebastian in the stomach, causing him to let go and fall off the bridge and into the rocky water below.

"Stay away from my husband," I said with spite.

The three of us look at the body in the river just as Alec comes running up. "What I'd miss?"

"A lot," Jace said, holding his side as he rocks on his feet.

I grab him, wrapping my arm around his waist, "We need to get him out of here."

Alec draws the rune, causing a portal to open and letting us walk through.

I take Jace to our room, laying him on the bed and using my stele to heal each of his wounds.

"You know you don't have to do that. I can heal myself," Jace said, looking at me while I focused on healing him.

A sigh left my lips, my hand pulling the stele away from him as his wounds finish healing. "If we would've been one second later, he would've... You would be..."

Jace stretched out his hand, placing it on my cheek, "Hey, I'm okay. I don't have to worry about you being one second late before you're always one second ahead."

I smiled, trying to agree but feeling my eyes duck down.

"Hey," He said, making me look up at him, "I love you, you know that, right?"

"Every day, all my life," I say, giving him a genuine smile. I leaned in, kissing his lips as his hands go to my waist. He picks me up, sitting me on his lap as he holds me close to him.

Oh My God, I'm alive! And there are only 1-2 more chapters left!

So so so, sorry it took me so long to update. I could go on with telling you the 800 reasons I didn't update but I won't bore you. The point is I'm back and I am finishing this story!!! I decided not to do Season 3 because it was hard enough to finish Season 2, but don't worry, I'll end it well.

Love you guys!
