Chapter 2
Rowan
He felt it, the bond as it snapped, a piercing pain tearing his mind apart. But then, as quick as it had come, it vanished, replaced by a blinding light yet there's something about it that made him felt comforted, soothed. All around him, the battle was still raging on, but his friends... They had doubled over, grunting in pain, startled, as, at once, a voice, bitter and sad and broken, filled their minds:
"I love you, and I'm so sorry"
He knew who that voice belonged to, knew what had happened. And he roared in pain, unable to feel anything but grief and misery.
Someone was yelling his name in the distance. But it seemed so far away.... like it belonged to another world.
Someone was shaking him frantically. He finally looked up, as that voice whispered breathlessly: "Is she...?" Lorcan. Rowan nodded once, not trusting his voice, which would show his vulnerability and insecurity. "I'm sorry" Lorcan's voice broke, choking on that word, sorry. No, sorry could never convey what Lorcan felt like. And Elide... She was now sobbing on the ground, her eyes... They were coated in tears. Tears were everywhere as they travelled down her bloody cheeks, a never-ending pour. Her fists clenched and unclenched, and when she finally looked at Rowan, as Everyone now looked at him, she said those terrible words: "I'm sorry". Those words finally found their mark, and as he roared Her name, Rowan tore through the ilken front lines like they were mere sheets of paper. And it wasn't like anyone was trying to stop him, anyway.

Dorian
The former king of Adarlan had glanced at Manon twice now, a smile playing faintly on his lips. As he was sure that the Crochan Queen was completely aware of the fact, he stopped, and, to prove himself useful, he started talking to the Crochans now monitoring Manon intensely like vultures circling prey.
"I can see that, you have, no doubt, reasons to not trust us. We can't blame you for this, as our messy and bloody history has proved how dangerous, savage and most importantly, untrustworthy we are to you -"
"- Not 'us' princeling" A Crochan witch cut in "Only the Wing Leader"
A sneer curved her hideous mouth, and it was all Dorian could do to not strangle the witch alive with his invisibly magical hands. And then it happened. An unbearable pain, slashing through his mind, filled with Aelin Galanthynius' words: "I love you, and I'm sorry" He jerked forward, and looked straight at Manon in the eye, hoping to confirm what just happened was in fact real, and not his deluding. The witch's face was unreadable, but her eyes, ... They glimmered with some sort of surprise and regret, but when she blinked, it was gone. The Crochans, apparently, had not experienced the same thing, and one of them, the sharp-tongued Commander, leered at Dorian:
"Ah, princeling, you seem to have a very fragile mind, too."
"Watch it" Manon snarled, iron teeth baring.
"See, sisters?" The Crochan Commander crooned to the others "The witch debased herself of honor and sympathies a human, and more disastrous, a human princeling. She turned her back on us, deemed us worthy of entertainment and slaughter, and now she returns, saying that she regrets it. Who can buy that lie? Even for you, Wing Leader, that's pathetic."
Manon remained as still as a statue, but Dorian... He lashed out with his invisible claws and the Crochan Commander was splattered to the ground, her face bearing scars that ran deep. She staggered as she tried to stand up.
"By the law of the Three-faced Goddess" The Crochan screeched "and by laws of Rhiannon Crochan..." Another test to see if Manon had acknowledged and accepted her bloodline "we shall duel, Manon Blackbeak, until one of us dies"
She finally stood up, face contorted with condescension, and said quietly, but each words emphasized with venom:
"We will never acknowledge you as our Queen, I never will, until my very. Last. Breath, and will refuse to associate you with our Savior, former Wing Leader of the Ironteeth clan"
She promptly spat on Manon's boots, and left.
