Taehyung’s eyes settled on the clouds floating beneath him. The sun that is starting to set is giving off orange and gold hues. He never gets tired of watching the beauty in front of him. He inhaled a deep breath and then he smiled. He was excited for the next days to come.

Taehyung almost forgot how he lived as a human. After he died and went to heaven, he immediately receives his mission. As an angel of love, it was so difficult for him. Love is a very complex thing.

But he was grateful to meet other angels who eventually he considers to be his friends.

Hoseok is the angel of time and space. It is a great responsibility because it is the miracle of time that allows these precious human lives to continue and flourish across the multiverse.

Yoongi is the angel of music who keeps the harmony in heaven and earth.

Namjoon is the angel of truth and wisdom. He helps those who turn to him asking guidance when resolving conflicts especially before making decisions or learning new information.

And there is this one angel, whom he fears the most. The angel of death and fate, Seokjin. He is the one ushering the souls from one life to the next. They tried to make a human life enjoyable whereas Seokjin is always ending it.

Although Seokjin meant no harm to his fellow angels, he is considered as a lonesome angel. No one dares to approach him and Taehyung makes sure that he avoids him in every chance that he gets.

Taehyung loves his job being the angel of love. Whenever the human that he match with another became successful, he felt proud of himself. He is a loyal advocate of “love conquers all”. 

He can still remember his first assignment. It was a man named Choi Taemin who works in an office in Seoul. His task is to make him fall in love with the company’s CEO. It was a hard task because the CEO is already in love with someone else but destiny comes in between. The CEO fell in love with Taemin after a year and it turns out that they are each other’s first love since middle school. He felt happy when they found out that they are soul mates.

What makes his missions difficult is that he needs to finish one pair before moving on to the next pair. There are times that he guided a pair for three years and the shortest is six months. At first, he doesn’t complain, but when the Chief Angel talked to him one night after completing his mission for the 500th pair, he became a little bit impatient with his missions.

“Taehyung, have you ever wonder who he is your soul mate?” The Chief Angel asked him which caught him off-guard.

“Do I have one?” Taehyung answered.

“Of course. But you need to accomplish your tasks first before you meet your soul mate.”

“I’ll do anything.”

“After you finish your thousand pairs, you will see your soul mate in the Fountain of Love.”

So Taehyung tried his best to give the humans their perfect match, and he’s now on his 1000th pair. This must be accomplished sooner.

“For the meantime, here’s your next assignment, I hope that’s the most romantic love story that you’ve been waiting for.” The chief angel gave him a scroll and disappeared.

Taehyung opened it with much enthusiasm. As always, only the basic things were given to them. It’s up to the angel to discover everything else and find them their perfect match.

His latest mission is Park Jimin. He is a literature teacher in Seoul University.

Taehyung smiled. He likes teachers. They are often kind and good in nature and maybe this Park Jimin is just like the typical teachers that he guided before.

But the moment he descended on earth to start his mission, he never expected to find this task difficult and challenging. As he observed him every day, Jimin is the sweetest person that he had seen. But Jimin avoids men who keep hitting on him.

One day, Taehyung saw a bunch of flowers on his table and it was from a secret admirer. Jimin saw the flowers and throw it in the garbage bin. Later, he found out that it was from Jung Hae-in, the junior dean from Architecture Department.

There was a time when a tall man invited him for dinner which he politely refused. The man named Kim Woo Bin, the vice president of a gaming company, felt disappointed and stops wooing him.

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and Taehyung was expecting that Jimin would accept any of the invitations but he declines them all.

Much to his surprise, Jimin’s best friend, Jeon Jungkook, teases him and calls him a “Man hater”, to which Jimin only replied,

“I need sparks. None of them showed me. I want to meet The One.” Jimin sighs.

“If you won’t take the risk, then how will you know if he is the one?” Jungkook ruffles his hair then hugs him.

“You will definitely feel it. I trust the angel of love.” Jimin smiled at him.

“Okay. If you say so. Just don’t come running to me crying if your “The One” isn’t the one.” Jungkook loves to tease his best friend.

“So I suppose, you don’t have a date on Valentines?” Jungkook casually asked.

“Why? Are you asking me out Jeon Jungkook?” Jimin giggles and pinched his arm.

“Why not? I don’t have a date either.”

“I don’t believe you. What happen to the vocalist from the other school? What is his name? Woo Sung?”

“I just like his band. I didn’t even consider dating him. Well, what’s your decision? Let’s paint the town red on Vday.”

“Alright. After my classes.”

“My swimming class will end at 4 PM. I’ll see you then.”

“We will be the stars in the grapevine after 14.”

“Everybody knows that you are my best friend. There’s nothing wrong with dating your single best friend on Valentine’s right?”

“Alright. See you then.”

Taehyung can’t help but smile. So this Jeon Jungkook is a sports teacher and they have been pining for each other for years.

If they would date, then it would not be difficult because they knew each other for ten years. They certainly know each other’s likes and dislikes, strength and weaknesses.

So what could possibly the reason why they didn’t date each other? Taehyung must work double time so he can finish his mission sooner.

Taehyung went to the office of the chief angel to send his reports regarding his assignment. He carefully opened the door and he saw the chief angel talking seriously with another angel. It was Seokjin.

He saw the chief angel gave a scroll to Seokjin and he opened it, and then he closed it immediately. Taehyung was about to leave the room when he heard Seokjin speaks.

“Jeon Jungkook. 27 years old. Sports teacher in Seoul University. February 14.”

“Yes. After this mission, you will be granted your promotion.” The Chief Angel patted his shoulder.

Taehyung felt that all his energy was drained.

“No way.” Taehyung uttered and walked away from the room.

Taehyung became restless then eventually he felt angry with Seokjin.

“Jimin and Jungkook are the fated ones. I need to finish my task. There is no way that I let Seokjin succeed. Jungkook won’t die anytime soon. I will protect him until he confesses his feelings to Jimin.”

“What do you think you’re doing, Taehyung?” Hoseok asked him when he accompanies him on earth because he felt bored in heaven.

“I need to protect Jimin and Jungkook. Especially Jungkook. I heard he is the next target of Death Angel Seokjin.”

“So, if you heard that this Jungkook guy will die soon, why are you insisting on matching him with your Jimin? Why not chose someone else for Jimin?”

“I just felt it. They are soul mates. They are perfect for each other Hoseokie.”

“But you are messing up with another angel’s task. Seokjin won’t be happy with it. He is very persistent to pull out a soul. There are rumors that he will be promoted once he finished this task.”

 “But Jimin and Jungkook are meant for each other and I will promise to give them the best love story that they ever wanted.”

“Just make sure that Seokjin won’t find this out. You will be doomed.”

“Hoseok, can you look for Jungkook’s timer? I just want to make sure that he is breathing fine until February 14.” Taehyung flutters his eyelashes and hooked his arms on Hoseok’s.

“No. this is cheating, Taehyung. The only angel allowed seeing the timer is me. So Hands off. I need to go back to heaven. I’m tired watching those two flirt like teenagers and didn’t even have the guts to make out. I’m off now. Bye!” Hoseok laughs then he disappeared.

Taehyung continues to watch the two professors enjoying their lunch at the cafeteria until their classes are over. They both went home safe and he’s happy that February 13 is done and tomorrow is Valentine’s Day.

Taehyung felt very tired and he just wanted to take a rest before the D day. He was on his way to his room when he heard some angels talking in soft, almost inaudible voices.

If eavesdropping is bad for humans, it was forbidden for angels. It shows lack of respect. But somehow, Taehyung took the risk because he heard his name. He hides on the back of the pillar, close enough to hear their conversation.

“What if Taehyung found out about him?” Yoongi seems unbothered.

“I was present at the meeting of the council. And they told me that Taehyung will meet him after he finished his task with Park Jimin.” Namjoon tried to whisper but he became excited so his voice echoed in the hallway.

“But Taehyung have a little problem with his mission. He tried to match Jimin with his best friend Jungkook. But Jungkook is the next target of Seokjin.”

Yoongi and Namjoon both gasped and Hoseok sighed.

“Do we need to help our friend? Taehyung waited long enough for his soul mate. He must finish this soon.” Yoongi seems bothered now.

“You know we cannot intervene with human fate. And Taehyung is the only one who can accomplish his tasks. We will be punished if the council finds out.” Namjoon said.

“All we can do now is pray for the success of Taehyung’s mission.” Hoseok uttered.

“He was in for a surprise once he meets his soulmate.” Namjoon smiled showing his cute dimples.

“Did the Chief Angel tell you who is Taehyungie’s soul mate?” Yoongi whispered

“Yes.” Namjoon nodded.

Taehyung’s heart beats faster.

“Who is it?” Hoseok asked and Yoongi is also all ears to Namjoon.

“It’s a secret.” Namjoon laughs and runs away from the two angels.

“Sometimes, I realize that it’s hard to have an angel of truth as a friend. He couldn’t lie so he is always leaving us hanging.” Hoseok scratches his head.

“It’s much better than not telling the truth. I just hope that his soul mate can make our Taehyungie happy.” Yoongi shrugged his shoulder.

“Taehyung is the cutest angel here. I know his soul mate is the perfect match for him and based on Namjoon’s smile, he must be really handsome.” Hoseok giggled and tugged Yoongi to their respective rooms.

“Taehyung deserves the best.” Yoongi smiled and waved at Hoseok.

Taehyung went on his way to his bedroom and buried his face on his pillow. The council and Namjoon already knew who his soul mate is. Taehyung felt nervous and the same time, he felt excited.

But first things first. Jimin and Jungkook needs to have a happy ending first before writing his own love story.

February 14

Taehyung felt that this day is special so he descended to earth earlier to check if everything is according to the plan.

He went to Jungkook’s apartment and he saw a bouquet of yellow tulips on the table and a bunch of chocolates. He is writing something on a card. Taehyung’s eyes widened when he read what’s written on the card.

To my lovely Jimin,

I know I’ve been a coward and I think it’s time to tell you the truth. For almost ten years that we’ve been together, I’ve been in love with you. I don’t want to waste another day without telling you how I feel.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

From Jungkook

An endless stream of tears flow in his cheeks and Taehyung is always dazed with overflowing love with his matched pairs. The words are very sincere and he is very happy. Taehyung is praying that Jimin would accept Jungkook’s love.

Jungkook stood up from the chair and grabbed the flowers and chocolates. He gets the car keys and prepared everything on his way to fetch Jimin.

Jungkook stopped by at the apartment complex and there’s Jimin standing and waiting for him to arrive. Jimin looks pretty on a white turtle neck top underneath his coat. He waves at Jungkook and he opened the door from the passenger seat.

Jungkook inhaled deeply and took the flowers from the back seat. He gave the flowers and chocolates to Jimin. Jimin teased Jungkook that the flowers are expensive and he didn’t care if they will eat cheaper street foods for their date but Jungkook only smiled.

Taehyung is grinning from ear to ear. He can feel that his job will be smooth sailing today and he doesn’t need to worry.

They arrived safely at Namsan Tower where Jungkook reserved a table for two. They enjoyed their dinner and after eating they went to the iconic Namsan love locks.

Jungkook took out a card from the pocket of his vest and gave it to Jimin who can’t help but blushed. His heart started to race.

Jimin reads the letter and his tears starts to flow and he threw himself to Jungkook. Jungkook hugged him tight and they are both crying.

“What took you so long, Jungkook-ah?” Jimin wiped his tears and hits his chest playfully.

“I am a stubborn guy but when it comes to you I’m a bit coward. I thought that it would ruin our friendship if I will tell my feelings to you, so I hide it for almost ten years. But now I have the courage to tell you everything. I love you Jimin.” Jungkook held his hand and kissed it.

“You think you’re slick but you’re wrong.” Jimin giggled and he opened his mini bag and took out nine cards. Jungkook was stunned.

“We were friends for almost a decade and you think I didn’t recognize your handwriting, Jungkook-ah? I remember when we were still in high school. It was Valentine’s Day and I saw a card inside my locker. I was happy that someone likes me even though I don’t know who he is. So I waited for someone who might confess that he sent the card but no one did. Then the next Valentines, I received a card again from an anonymous sender and becomes a routine every February 14. I never entertained any suitor not until I meet the secret card sender. But then one day, when I was sick and you volunteered to check the exam papers of my students and I recognized your handwriting. I even borrowed your journal just to compare, and yes it was the same.”

“A total of nine cards Jungkook and no words from you. I almost lose hope but when you asked me to celebrate the Vday with you, you don’t know how much I am happy that night. So I tell myself that no matter what happens, I will confess my feelings to you. I love you Jungkook.”

Jungkook crossed the gap between them and gently placing his lips against Jimin’s. They were running out of breath when they pulled away. The couple was both nervous and giggly. Jimin pulled out something from his pocket and whispered,

“Let’s sealed it.” Jimin gave him a yellow padlock with a key sticking out of the bottom. Jungkook takes the lock and smiled when he read their names written on it. They placed it the chain near the railing. He pushed the shackle down, securely locking it. They held hands and continues with star gazing.

 Taehyung wiped his tears and decided to go back to heaven because he felt that his mission is complete. He turned around and felt a sudden gush of strong wind. He saw a dark figure and he felt something’s wrong. The dark figure was walking slowly and when their eyes meet, Taehyung shivered.

Seokjin is looking at Jungkook and Jimin and Taehyung knew that Seokjin needs to usher Jungkook’s soul. Taehyung runs toward the couple but a strong force engulfed him and he can’t move. Then he realized that Seokjin holds him.

“You cannot interfere what’s written in the book of fate. You will be punished, Taehyung.” Seokjin’s voice is firm and authoritative.

“But they just confessed their feelings with each other. And you are here to take away his soul. You’re cruel Seokjin.” Taehyung tried to get away but the force is stronger than him.

“What’s written in the book of fate cannot be changed. I’m sorry.”

Taehyung felt a stronger force around him and everything banished.

Taehyung woke up inside his bedroom. At first, he was confused why he was there but then he remembered that he was fulfilling his mission when Seokjin messed it up.

Taehyung went to the Fountain of love to verify if his mission is successful. He put his hand on the water and he saw Jimin and Jungkook on the water. They are walking with their fingers intertwined.

All of a sudden, Taehyung heard footsteps and he saw the least expected angel to be spending his precious time in the fountain.

“What are you doing here?” Taehyung asked Seokjin.

“I am waiting for my soul mate. A thousand to be exact.” Seokjin replied without looking at him

“Thousand days?” Taehyung asked him curiously.

“No. A thousand years.” Seokjin voice cracks.

Taehyung gasps. He doesn’t know what to say. Maybe that’s the reason why Seokjin is lonely. He waited long enough to meet his ultimate partner.

“What took you so long, Taehyung-ah?” Seokjin walks slowly towards him

“What do you mean?” Taehyung stuttered.

Seokjin held his hand and pulled him closer to the fountain. The beautiful fountain stops flowing and he can see a clear image of two figures in the water. It was him and Seokjin.

This means, Seokjin is his soul mate!

“How? I mean, Park Jimin didn’t find his soul mate yet. I failed the mission.”

“Before I ushered Jeon Jungkook’s soul to heaven, they confessed their love for each other. Before they met an accident together, they found their soul mates. Your mission is a success, Taehyung.” Seokjin smiled and Taehyung felt that he saw the second heaven.

“But why? Why did you wait for me? You can choose someone else.” Taehyung is still confused. He never expected that Seokjin is his soul mate. It’s not that he didn’t like him, but Taehyung never knew that he will have the perfect partner.

“Do you believe in destiny, Taehyung-ah?” Seokjin brushed his cheeks with his knuckles.

“Yes.” Taehyung answered.

“Taehyung, you are my destiny. You are my soul mate. I will wait no matter how long. As long as it’s you.” Seokjin hugged him and Taehyung feels like he is the luckiest angel in heaven.

Epilogue

Seokjin’s POV

When the Chief Angel told him that Taehyung is his soul mate, his heart becomes restless.

Taehyung is perfect for his role. The angel of love.

And when he smiles, it made his heart flutter.

Seokjin made sure that Taehyung is always safe. He takes care of him secretly.

Their study sessions have been his favorite time of the week. He is very excited to see Taehyung. He always sits in the chair on the top corner of the room to have a magnificent view of his soul mate.

Taehyung is a smart boy that’s why their teachers like him. But sometimes, his mission seems to be exhausting for him. There were times that he will fall asleep while reading in the library. Seokjin will spend hours just watching him sleep then he will carry him to his room so he can rest more comfortably in his bed.

There were times when Taehyung spends more time on earth because he had a difficult assignment so Seokjin will descend to earth just to see him. Then the next day, Seokjin will be punished and given more assignments.

And one day, Taehyung messed up with his matchmaking skills and he felt sad. He asked Yoongi to play Taehyung’s favorite song. And suddenly, he heard the sweet voice of Taehyung accompanying the song.

Sometimes, Seokjin felt impatient that he almost tells Taehyung that they are soul mates. But still he waited. A thousand years had passed by.

When the Chief Angel told him that Taehyung will meet his soul mate after his last task, Seokjin felt excited. And coincidentally, his promotion will push through after his mission.

Seokjin will become an archangel and he will be with Taehyung.

When Taehyung found out that his last mission is Jeon Jungkook, he become mad at him. But he couldn’t defy fate. But he will try his best to help Taehyung.

February 14 came and he saw that Taehyung already descended on earth to finish his job. He followed him and he saw him walking besides Jungkook towards his car.

According to the book of fate, Jungkook will meet an accident which will end his life.

Although Seokjin knew that Taehyung won’t get hurt physically, he can’t afford to see him sad again. Seokjin fixed the brakes of the car before meeting Jimin.

Then Seokjin felt a sudden gush of wind. And when he opened his eyes, he is inside the office of the chief angel. He was scolded for interfering with fate.

He descended on earth and he was glad that Jimin and Jungkook confessed their feelings with each other. Taehyung accomplished his mission and he needs to fulfill his task too.

He was surprised when another scroll was given to him.

“Park Jimin. 27 years old. Literature teacher. Seoul. February 14.”

“Taehyung is right. They are soul mates. So I guess they will be never apart from each other.”

After ushering the souls to heaven, Seokjin runs to the Fountain of Love and he saw Taehyung looking at the water.

“It’s time to meet your soul mate, Taehyung-ah.”
