Who?
The shorter man squinted his eyes in disbelief. The audacity of you, a stranger, is almost applaudable.
"Answer me. Don't ask me the same question." He replied bluntly, lips pressed into a thin line that betrays his caution. You look bewildered. Come on man, you're obviously harmless. No weapon, only a medical bag that you managed to snag before the hole pulls you through to this shithole.
You crossed your arms and narrowed your eyes again; they're almost slits at this point. This short but handsome man is somehow getting on your nerves, and you, have never been a patient woman.
But you know when and where to be a cranky bitch. So you answered and told him your name. To him, your name was odd, not something that is common here. Heck, he had never heard anyone with your name ever. He took a step towards you, looking like he might knock you dead, and you raised your hands up in mock surrender
"Oi oi, calm down shorty. Don't come too close. I don't know you, you don't know me. You're threatening"
That seemed to get on his nerves, though his face betrayed no emotion; that man was obviously pissed. You could tell by the way he tightened his grip on his swords.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, pushing down his annoyance at your jab about his height.
"Tell me your name first." You demand."I told you my name, it's fair that you tell me yours. Or do you prefer me to call you midget?"
His jaw clenched, but you have a point. He didn't properly introduce himself. He normally would not give away his identity to a stranger, but you didn't seem like a threat to him. Well, nothing is a threat to him really, but he prefers to be cautious all the time. Can't trust a single soul.
"Levi. Levi Ackerman" He muttered out. You raise an eyebrow. What a strange name to you. You eye him up and down, it's different to names from your world, but it suits him all the same
"Levi huh?" You tested his name, letting it roll from your tongue; somehow, coming from you, it sounded right. He stiffened before stepping closer to get a better view of you. You raise an eyebrow, this man is cautious through and through.
"Answer my question, what are you doing here?" He stepped closer, a few meters away from you, and you could hear his breath hitch as he take a look at your appearance.
"Ask the universe"
He raises his sword towards you in a silent warning. Alright, you get it. This man doesn't play games.
"Fine, fine, no bullshitting huh?" You sighed loudly, god, the one cup of iced coffee you had before falling through that stupid hole is not enough to keep your brain functioning from all this crap. You look him dead in the eyes and said bluntly "I don't know why I'm here"
He doesn't reply, but you could tell that he doesn't believe you. It's understandable, how could one believe that a human being could now comprehend what she's doing on the face of Earth...if this is even Earth anymore. You scratch your head, staring at him almost sheepishly, praying to every non-existent human beings out there that he believe your story
"I'm telling the truth. I don't know why I'm here. I don't know where I am either." You scrunch up your nose in disastifaction "I was working, and then some stupid black hole opened and bam, I'm here."
If Levi was skeptical before, he's totally not buying your story now. If anything, his eyes are burning holes right through your skulls with how hard he's glaring at you
"Spit the truth"
"I am!"
"Bullshit"
You tore at your hair in frustration. God this man, handsome as he is, but way too guarded for your own liking.
"Look, I know it's suspicious and all, but look, I'm telling you exactly what happened. I don't know where I am, nor do I know what this world is. I am just a doctor. A surgeon." You hold up your medical ID badge with your name and hospital logo scribbled on it. Heck, you're even wearing your scrubs, how come this man still doesn't believe you?
Levi reaches over and carefully snatches the badge from you, retracting quickly as if you just burned him. You scoffed.
"I don't bite, midget"
His jaw clenched, but he doesn't respond. Instead, he stares at the ID badge in his hand, written in a language he does not understand. He flips the badge back and forth, examining it closely. It seems genuine, but he can't figure out what it is. He tossed it back to you as you catch it cleanly in between your hands, muttering:
"What is that? I don't understand it."
Your eyes widen, and that brings you to a question: If he can't read the writing on your ID card, how come he understands what you're saying and vice versa?
"What..? You don't understand? Can you not read the handwriting?"
He shakes his head, still wary, hands never leaving his weapon. You pinch the bridge of your nose
"That was my ID card, with my name, photo and the hospital that I worked at. How come you can't read the writing, but you can understand me?"
His expression changed to dumbfounded, but it was only there for a brief moment before it's back to his usual cold facade.
"You're speaking our language brat." He said, you raised an eyebrow. What the fuck is he spluttering now?
"No I'm not"
"You are"
"Not"
"Oh fuck you. Answer me, what are you doing here?"
This damn man is so persistent!
"I told you! I don't fucking know. One moment I'm in my office, the next I'm here!"
He stared at you for a long moment, as if sheer eye contact could wring the truth out of your mouth. You stared right back, equally stubborn; you aren't going to let this man intimidate you. You've dealt with worse, especially stubborn and rude patients whose entire existence is probably to spite you.
Silence. The only sound was the wind howling and the fluttering of his cape. Finally, Levi looks you up and down once more, as if to decipher an enigma that is you. Your scrubs dirty, your white blouse covered in dirt, the medical bag tilted to the side and your messy, ruffled hair from the fall.
"Disgusting" He muttered dryly.
"Excuse me?" You blinked. What the fuck is wrong with this man?
"Your..whatever it is you're wearing, are dirty. Shoes covered in mud. Absolutely vile" He scrunches up his nose, the disgust for you palpable. "Noisy and annoying too".
Your eyes widen in disbelief. The audacity of this short man can rival the bald hospital director when he's mad. If you didn't take some sort of pride in your crankiness and bitch mode, you would happily pass him the crown of: The most grumpy midget to ever roam the living.
"I just got swallowed by a black hole from nowhere, torn away from my world and tossed into god knows where. Excuse me if I don't have a brush and a bucket of water to clean myself up nicely for you to ogle, thank you very much." You added dryly, and muttered to yourself "Clean freak"
He totally heard that last statement, but chose to ignore it. He carefully seathes his swords, hand shooting out to grab your wrist. The pressure of his hand enough to warn you that he's watching, and he's dangerous, but surprisingly gentle enough to not hurt you.
"What the hell are you doing midget?! Let me go!"
You tried to yank your wrist away from this stranger, but his grip is too strong for your liking.
"Let's go" He commanded
"Where?!" You snapped "I am not going with a stranger like you. What if you kidnap me? Murder me? Or worse, turn me into a slave scrubbing your toilet?!"
He rolled his eyes a little. Do you seriously think that scrubbing the toilet is worse than getting murdered? He doesn't say it, but you can tell he's contemplating your mental state and priorities.
"To the barracks"
"The what?"
"The barracks. I can't have you roaming around unsupervised."
You scoffed, still trying to pry his fingers from your wrist, but they won't budge.
"I'm not a damn ticking time bomb, I'm a doc-"
"Could be a spy. A Titan shifter." He cuts you off, still dragging you along with him towards the large wall towering this world. "Or you're a psycho. Overall, both are possibilities, too dangerous. Can't let you roam freely"
You scoffed louder this time, not even bothered to hide your annoyance at his comments
"First off, I'm not a spy. Second of all, the fuck's a Titan shifter? Thirdly, I'm very sane, thank you very much. The one that's not sane here, is obviously you midget!"
Levi paused for almost half a second, fingers tightening slightly around your wrist before letting go slightly, not enough for you to run, but enough so you don't feel uncomfortable.
"Call me that again, and I'll knock you dead" His voice lowered, full of warnings. Alright, alright, this man is not one for jokes and small talk. Though, you're seriously contemplating to jab him with a syringe in your medical bag to teach him a lesson. Man's got a bad attitude.
"Fine, Levi. Happy now?" You grumbled, still trying to pry his fingers from your wrist. He doesn't reply, still dragging you along. You stumbled behind him, trying to match his pace. For a man with short legs, he sure does walk fast.
"At least tell me where I am and where we're heading. It's rude to drag a lady along, especially by a stranger like you. I don't like going to places I don't know" You complained, already given up on trying to yank your wrist free. It's clear to you that despite his size, this man has inhumane strength.
"You ask too much" He replied, but then decided to answer your question anyway "We're going to the Survey Corps' barracks, inside Wall Rose. Happy?"
You have no fucking clue what the "Survey Corps" and "Wall Rose" are, but judging from the look on his face. You knew better than to pry. He'll have to answer you eventually, when you reach this so-called barracks, or, if you're lucky, you'll find someone nicer there that's willing to help you out.
"Fucking midget"
You grumbled under your breath. He heard that.
