Chapter 1: The Introduction

Under the gloomy night sky, heavy rain poured down on the deserted streets. Dim streetlights reflected off puddles on the ground, distorting the images they cast ,much like the emotional turmoil of the girl standing there, shivering in the rain.

Kita Ikuyo's eyes were red and swollen, her tears mixing with the cold raindrops on her pale face. Her phone trembled in her hand, fingers gripping the screen tightly as if it were the only thing holding her last bit of hope together.

"Please... Izayoi-kun... Hitori... Hitori-chan has been taken...!"

Her voice broke between sobs. Panic coursed through every cell in her body as she recalled the terrifying moment: the anesthetic smoke hitting her lungs, her eyes going blurry amidst the shadows of figures moving around, and the last thing she saw Bocchi being dragged away, helplessly.

On the other end of the line, Sakamaki Izayoi remained eerily calm. But despite his composed tone, Kita could feel the restrained fury behind every word.

"Kita, calm down. Listen to me."

"But... but Hitori-chan..."

"Ayanokouji Atsuomi is targeting me. He kidnapped Bocchi to lure me into Whiteroom. But he won't lay a finger on her just yet."

Kita held her breath, lips trembling. "How... how can you be so sure...?"

Izayoi took a deep breath, locking the rage inside his chest. His voice rang out with unwavering determination:

"Because I'll go to Whiteroom and bring Bocchi back."

The cold rain lashed Kita's face like whips, but deep inside, a flicker of hope lit up. She knew Izayoi didn't speak empty words. If he said he would do it, he definitely would.

Far away, hundreds of kilometers from there, deep within the cold walls of a secret facility known as Whiteroom, Gotou Hitori slowly blinked open her eyes.

Harsh white fluorescent lights glared down from the ceiling, reflecting off the soulless walls. A dull ache lingered in her body undeniable proof that she had been kidnapped.

Bocchi clenched her fists, her breathing shaky. She didn't know where she was, or what awaited her... but there was one thing she was sure of.

"Izayoi... will definitely come to save me."

Someone like Izayoi would never let anyone he cared about be harmed.

That belief was the only thing she could cling to now. Even though she'd always been a timid person, just thinking about him made her feel like she could be a little stronger.

Her memories began to resurface, taking her back to the past to the beginning, when it all started.

Mid-December Koudo Ikusei High School

The winter chill had settled across Koudo Ikusei High School, carrying the icy breath of year-end days. Cold winds blew through the long hallways, rattling window panes and sending dried leaves swirling through the air before falling onto the empty schoolyard.

Despite the drop in temperature, the school retained the majestic aura of one of the most prestigious institutions in Japan, a place only the elite could survive.

The bell rang, signaling the break between classes. While most students gathered to chat or left the classroom to grab drinks from vending machines, some chose to enjoy their solitude.

One of them was Gotou Hitori.

The small girl with soft pink hair sat curled up in a corner of the classroom.

Hitori kept her head down, eyes fixed on a white sheet of paper in front of her. It wasn't a test or notes ,it was the results of the Paper Shuffle exam. Her trembling hands gripped it tightly, almost unable to believe what she saw.

She had passed.

The tension that had been strangling her chest for days shattered in an instant. Relief washed over her, as if she could finally breathe again after being submerged in anxiety.

If the Paper Shuffle was a nightmare for most students of Class 1-D, it had been a life-or-death battle for Hitori. Failing could've meant getting expelled and with it, losing her future. She knew this better than anyone, which was why she had poured every ounce of effort into passing.

She wasn't expelled. She could stay.

The moment she held the results in her hands, she wanted to scream with joy. But, as usual, all she managed was a trembling smile and a tight grip on the paper's edge.

Just as she was quietly celebrating, a voice spoke up from behind.

"Guitar, huh?"

Hitori froze. She hadn't misheard. Someone had just spoken to her.

It... wasn't a familiar voice.

She slowly turned her head, as if afraid that if she moved too quickly, the person would vanish like a ghost.

And when her eyes met the person behind her, her heart skipped a beat. The boy leaning casually against the seat behind her, with a bored yet curious gaze, was none other than Sakamaki Izayoi.

He possessed terrifying intelligence and an unnerving calmness.

Izayoi wasn't an unfamiliar name.

In fact, among all first-year students, there was likely no one who didn't know who he was.

From the moment he enrolled, he had stood out from everyone else in Class 1-D. Despite being placed in the "worst" class in the school's hierarchy, Izayoi never seemed bothered. On the contrary, he quickly proved himself through his genius intellect a superhuman mind capable of absorbing and processing knowledge at a frightening pace.

The recent Paper Shuffle was a perfect example.

While other students struggled to memorize complicated concepts, Izayoi scored perfectly across every subject without a hint of stress or effort. Those who witnessed him during the test all agreed: he wasn't just smart it was like he already knew every answer.

He always appeared indifferent, as if nothing in this world was worth his attention. No one could guess what he was thinking, nor what he wanted. That's why people didn't dare approach him casually.

Yet here he was, talking to her.

Hitori was flustered, her lips trembling as she tried to respond.

"Uh... Um... Y-Yeah..."

Izayoi gave a slight smile not mocking, nor careless. It felt like he'd just found something interesting in an otherwise dull day.

"Sounds fun."

Hitori blinked, her mind blank.

Wait... this was the first time someone had shown interest in her.

She had grown used to being treated like a "ghost," so shy that no one ever bothered to talk to her. And now, the scariest person in class had approached her just because of a guitar?

Her throat went dry. She swallowed hard.

Izayoi tilted his head slightly, as if pondering something. After a moment, he leaned his elbow on the desk, eyes still fixed on her.

"By the way, I haven't introduced myself to you, have I?"

"My name's Sakamaki Izayoi. And you?"

It was a simple question, but it felt like she'd been thrust into the spotlight ,a place she never felt comfortable.

She bowed slightly, her voice as quiet as a whisper:

"M-My name is Gotou Hitori."

She feared he'd be annoyed because she spoke too softly but Izayoi merely raised an eyebrow, looking even more intrigued.

"Gotou Hitori, huh...?"

He repeated the name as if committing it to memory.

"I see. So, Hitori... how long have you been playing guitar?"

Hitori didn't know how to respond.

Because... it was the first time someone genuinely cared about her passion.

And just like that, their conversation began. What seemed like a simple encounter would soon become the starting point of an unimaginable story.

Chapter 2 coming soon.
