Jeongmin: Meet Again

(ship requested by MuskanAfzal)

(Concept: Jimin and Jeongyeon used to be classmates in high school. They didn't have the best relationship back then, but they meet again when Jeongyeon is in need of some help)

(Jimin POV)

I came into the office, expecting another day with a heavy workload. My secretary recently moved to a different facility and the company has yet to replace them. I'm busy all day taking care of things that my secretary used to and things that I do on a daily basis.

On my way to my office, one of my colleagues stops me.

"Jimin-ssi, good morning." He says.

"Good morning." I bow.

"Good news, we finally found someone for your secretary position."

"Really?"

"Yes, they're coming in today, actually. They're supposed to be here soon." He explains, "They'll meet with the boss, and then he'll introduce them to you."

"Sounds good. Thank you."

I wonder how my new secretary will be. I had a very good relationship with my last one, and it kind of hurt to see them leave, so I hope whoever takes their place is nice, at least.

I started my work in my office until someone knocked on the door. As expected, it was my boss.

"Jimin-ssi, this is your new secretary, Yoo Jeongyeon-ssi."

Yoo...Jeongyeon?

That name...

"Hi, nice to meet y-" She starts to say but stops once she sees it's me.

"Alright, I'll leave you guys to it. Jimin,  I already gave her the run down, so just get her set up at her desk, please."

Our boss walks away and leaves us alone.

"Hey. It's been a while." I say.

She sighs, sort of laughing at the same time, "I can't believe this."

"What's so hard to believe?"

"That I'll be working for you."

I scoff, "Trust me, this isn't easy for me either. I see you've changed, though."

"Of course I have." She says, "That was years ago."

Jeongyeon and I went to the same high school. She used to make fun of me and pick on me every day. After high school, I thought I'd never see her again, but here we are.

"How did you find this job?" I ask.

She looks down, "I used to work with my family's business, but they hit some problems and put me out of my job. This was the place that offered me an interview after I submitted my resume."

"I'm sorry." I didn't really know what to say, "But I hope this job helps you out."

She looks at me, concerned. I could almost understand her eyes. It was like she was saying, "Why are you being so nice to me after I treated you like trash all through high school?"

I don't hold grudges. Besides, that was high school. We were all young, dumb kids, and now we should all know better. This is work, and I have to be professional.

______________

A few weeks go by, and I start to remember why I endured all that bullying in high school. It didn't feel like bullying...because I liked her. I thought we were just being friends and messing around with each other, but she somehow always got the upper hand.

I liked her, but did she see me in that way, or was she actually just bullying me?

We didn't have any problems working together now. From my office, I could see her desk where she worked. Every now and then, I would catch her staring into my office. Whatever that could mean.

I was curious about what happened in high school, but I didn't want that to be the only thing we talked about. I waited a few more weeks before asking her about it.

"Why did you pick on me like that back in high school?" I asked her.

"Look, I'm sorry." She says, "I didn't mean to make you hurt."

"Then why did you do it?"

"I didn't know how to express my feelings back then."

"But what does that have to do with me?"

"I always picked on you...because I had a crush on you. I thought you'd see it, but you never did. I didn't know it was hurting you."

She said exactly what I was thinking about her. Now that I think back about it, it must be true. I was just too distracted to see it back then.

Bullying your crush isn't exactly the best way to get their attention, but it did something for her.

We both liked each other back then, and we both had no idea. What a coincidence.

It's kind of a rule here that we're not allowed to date coworkers unless already dating before coming into the company.

We had to be careful about it.

I told her how I felt back in high school, and we decided to give this a try. I learned so much about her that I wish I knew back then. We were both misunderstood.

After a few dates, we officially started dating. We agreed that if any of our coworkers found out, we'd say that we were dating before she started working here. My other coworkers don't really know much about me anyway. They wouldn't know if we were lying or not.

At work, we knew we had to be careful, but that didn't stop us from having some fun.

Sometimes, I'd call her into my office and shut the door just to give her a kiss. She leaves notes on my desk sometimes, too. I don't think anyone suspects anything, which is a good thing. I never understood why she picked on me back then, but I realize it now.

I wish we could've had this kind of relationship in high school.
