Jimina: Flower of Mine
(Concept by JK_Shasha, Jimin and Mina own a flower shop together)
(Adding to concept: Jimin and Mina are not idols, they met in high school)
(Jimin POV)
Every morning before the sun rises, I roll up the gate and unlock the doors to our little shop.
Park's Floral & Gifts
Opening up a flower store had been my dream since I was a kid. My grandmother had her own garden in her backyard and I would stay with her and help her tend the garden while my parents were at work.
She taught me all about flower language and how to take care of a garden.
Whenever someone asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up, my answer was always the same. Some said that I should aim higher, but I was satisfied with my taste.
I met Mina in high school. She was a transfer student from Kobe, Japan. We were both attending an arts school at the time.
I usually sat by myself at lunch, but I saw her alone on her first day and decided to try and make friends.
We instantly clicked.
When we first met, she was still learning to speak Korean, but it didn't take much for us to get along.
I would help her with her Korean and she taught me some Japanese.
Our school was having a festival one day so I asked her to come with me. It was obvious I had feelings for her, but I was too nervous to admit it. It took me about a year to actually confess to her.
Anyways.
Our shop is on a busy street next to a few restaurants and across the street from a grocery store so we get plenty of business all of the time.
I set up shop nice and early, but we don't actually open until around eight o'clock in the morning.
We grow some of the flowers we sell here, others, we buy from local farms.
Mina is actually picking up our next stock of flowers, so I was on my own this morning.
There's nothing like the fresh smell of flowers when you first wake up.
The shops is in walking distance from our apartment which is really convenient.
I step back from arranging the display and look around, smiling to myself.
We've come a long way from where we started.
I actually started off as a booth at a farmer's market. I started this on my own, but Mina's always been there supporting me.
I invited her to come with me to one of the markets and that's when it all really started.
Besides flowers, we also sell cards, chocolates, and other knickknacks. That part was Mina's idea, but it was really clever.
If someone's buying flowers for someone on Valentine's Day for example, they could also get them some chocolate alongside the flowers. It's happened more often than you might think.
I finish sorting the arrangements and walk outside to open up shop and sweep the sidewalk outside.
The restaurant owners next to us are good friends with us. They opened up their restaurant a few weeks before we opened our shop. We help each other from time to time.
The sun came out from behind the clouds just in time.
Mina pulls up to the store and parks the car in front.
"Morning, sunshine!" I say as she steps out of the car.
"Hey, oppa! Thanks for setting up." She smiles.
She opens the back of the car to unload the fresh flowers.
"What'd we get? What'd we get?" I ask, playing around.
"An assortment of roses," she sifts around the box, "more carnations, hibiscus, and some hyacinths."
"Hey, you remembered this time!" I say.
Last time we had ordered hyacinths, Mina forgot how to pronounce the name.
"Of course I remembered this time. You were my teacher." She kisses me on the cheek before walking into the store.
I smile to myself a few tracks behind her.
I can't think of a better way to be living right now. Everything's just right.
Well. Almost everything.
My parents have no idea I'm doing this. They think I'm still in school, studying to be a actor. That's what they wanted me to do, but I had other plans.
Sorry mom, sorry dad, but I'm glad I'm not an actor.
If I went with their plan for me, I would have never asked Mina to be my girlfriend like I did two years ago. I would have never passed on my grandmother's knowledge and I would not be as happy as I am right now. That's a given.
They're bound to find out some day though. When they do, they'll just have to accept that this is what I want to do with my life.
Thinking about it, Mina sort of came into my life like a flower.
I was still growing, then a beautiful little flower sprouted up in the same patch of soil. We both cared for each other, looked after each other, and we both grew. Together. And we're still going.
Every night when we close the shop, we walk home together under the stars, sometimes in the rain. We start the day together, we end it together too.
I can't imagine doing this with anyone else except her. No one can fill her spot.
If she's sick one day, I'll run the shop on my own, but not vice versa. I wouldn't let her do that, and she gets upset with me because she wants me to rest.
I really want to live the rest of my life with Mina.
Now I just have to make that a reality, no matter what the future may bring us.
