Jimina: Story
(Ship and concept requested by yoko_win )
(Concept: Mina and Jimin are both idols and their relationship was recently announced to the public. They were invited to talk about their relationship and their experience on a radio show together)
(Mina POV)
"Should we wear matching outfits?"
"Don't you think that's a little too much?"
"No, not at all."
"Okay. Then...I'll let you choose our outfits today."
"Really?"
The early morning light, bright but gloomy, flooded our bedroom. Jimin and I were getting ready to start the day. We had work today, but our first schedule was together. For the first time, we could go to work together.
After our relationship was announced to the world, we were invited to speak on a radio show to talk about everything. They wanted us to talk about our dating experience as idols, our relationship, and the reactions we received just for dating each other. This would also be our first public appearance as a couple, so I was a little nervous.
I finished fixing my hair and makeup while Jimin picked out our outfits. He knows my style, so I trusted him to pick something I'd like. He comes back from the closet with an armful of clothes.
"Jagi-ya, I need your input." He says, laying all of the clothes out on our bed.
I go to stand next to him, seeing that he picked out a few different options.
"So I was thinking, you could wear this and I could wear this. Or you could wear this and I can wear this." He explains.
"I like this one." I say, pointing to the seemingly more comfortable option.
"Okay!" He smiles, "I'll finish getting ready, don't want to make us late." He gives me a quick kiss before gathering the clothes to put them away and change.
I was nervous, but his energy really put me at ease.
___________
Our driver pulled up to the building and we could already see a crowd of people waiting outside. Waiting for us. When our car stopped, they all turned our way, cameras ready, just waiting for us to step out.
My heart started racing. Jimin was about to open the door until he noticed me and my worried expression.
"Hey." He calls to get my attention.
I look at him as he takes a deep breath, waiting for me to do the same. We take a few breaths together before he offers me his hand and we exit the car. He squeezed my hand tight until we made it inside.
__________
"Hi, I'm Mina from Twice."
"Hi, I'm Jimin from BTS."
"Thank you so much for joining us today." The host starts, "You two are the talk of the town lately."
Jimin and I both laugh nervously.
"Not many idol couples are public with their relationships, so how did you two decide to go public with yours?" They ask.
"Ah..." Jimin looks to me, but I let him answer the question, "Well...we were already dating for a while before our relationship was announced and with all the rumors coming up, we didn't want to lie. Our companies were also a part of that decision."
The host nods, "How long have you been together?"
"About...two years." I say.
This is usually surprising because we were able to get by without anyone knowing for almost two years.
"Really? How did you two end up together if you don't mind me asking?"
Jimin and I both smile at each other, the memories coming back to us.
"Jimin and I were friends before we started dating." I explain, "But Twice had a dating ban up until late 2018, so I couldn't really think about romance at the time."
"We became closer during the beginning of the COVID pandemic since we had a lot of time to spend at home. I started texting my friends more often and Mina and I started talking almost everyday." Jimin says.
"We were in the talking-stage for a long time." I laugh.
"Right. We couldn't really go out back then so I didn't ask her out until later."
"Oh, where was your first date?"
"We went ice skating."
"Ah, so it was in the wintertime."
"Right, right."
"Do you guys go out often?"
Jimin shrugs, "Sometimes, but most of our dates now are just at home. We prefer the privacy."
"You two are living together?"
"Yeah, Mina moved in with me a few months ago."
My hand was resting on my thigh, but as Jimin talked, he moved his hand to rest on top of mine. No one could see that he was holding my hand under the table.
"So obviously, the news about your relationship was a big deal; what did you think about the general response?"
"Hm." Jimin squeezes my hand, "We expected that there would be people against it, but we were just happy to see that others were happy for us."
I nod, "And I'm glad we don't have to hide it anymore."
"Who was the first to know? Your members? Your families?"
"Our families found out when it was announced to everyone else. I think our members were the only ones to know before that." Jimin says.
"Really? You didn't tell your families? How did they react when they found out?"
"My mom called me right when the news came out and she was like, "Is this real?" because we've both had false dating rumors come up before."
The host laughs, "They must have been surprised. Have you met each other's families yet?"
Jimin laughs nervously, "Mina's met my parents, but I haven't met her's yet."
"We need to visit sometime. They really want to meet you." I tell him.
"Alright." He nods, "Next time our breaks line up, we'll go."
"You sound nervous."
"No, no." He insists, "I'm not nervous, why would I be nervous?"
We all laugh.
"Seeing that you've been together for a few years, you're living together, and you were willing to come on this show today, I'm guessing that means you two are serious about this relationship, am I right?" The host asks.
"Right." Jimin says, looking right at me, "I'd like to think we'll be together for a long time. Maybe...forever."
His remark makes me laugh, not because it was funny, but because he's just so cute.
"Why are you laughing?" He asks, "I'm serious."
"I know, I know. I am too." I say, "It's just...that was cute."
"Sorry." Jimin apologizes to the host, "This is the first time we've talked about stuff like this in front of an audience."
"No problem at all. We, and I'm sure your fans, hope that we'll be seeing more of you two together in the future."
The response we got from that one radio show was enough to make me feel more comfortable about everything. People like seeing us together. I even think our relationship being public gave other idols the confidence to go public with theirs too. Maybe dating will become a normalized thing in the industry now, but I doubt it.
I think it's good for the both of us to be with someone in the same profession. We understand each other and what we go through. It's hard sometimes, especially when all I want to do is see him, but I can't; but I think the moments we share together are all worth it.
Our story's just a little different.
