Jimina: Voices

(Concept by JK_Shasha
Jimin is blind, but Mina has always been his supportive friend)

(Adding to concept: Jimin is not an idol yet, Mina debuted last year. I know BTS came before Twice, but bare with me here)

(Jimin POV)

It wasn't always like this. I wasn't always like this.

Apparently I was born with it. It was inevitable. I was born with my vision being just fine, but over time it slowly began to deteriorate. I was told I would be completely blind by the age of eighteen. I lasted a year more than that. I'm nineteen right now.

I had my whole life ahead of me. I dreamed of being a singer, a dancer, an artist. How am I supposed to dance if I can't even see where I'm walking?

We were supposed to make our debut,  but my situation got it pushed back.

"Just go on without me. I'll only hold the group back." I told them.

"Sorry, Jimin. We're not doing that." Jin-hyung said.

"We started this together, we're finishing together too." I hear Taehyung say.

A few months ago, I met this girl. She was like me. She dreamed to become a singer and dancer, but unlike me, she achieved that goal.

I've never seen her face. I've only heard her voice. Her soft, beautiful voice.

I could only imagine what she looked like. We met at a vocal lesson. At one time, our companies shared the same vocal trainer.

We were asked to introduce ourselves to everyone in the room. She said her name was Mina. We met before her group, Twice, debuted.

On my way out, I bumped into her.

"Sorry." I heard her say.

"It's okay. It's on me." I smile, hoping she smiled back.

I hadn't said that I was blind but I'm sure she figured it out by how I was walking and the stick I was holding.

"Are you heading home?" She asks.

I chuckle, "Sort of. I live in the corporate housing. It's not too far from here."

"Ah...I see."

"What about you?" I ask.

"I'm heading back to my dorm." She says.

"You're walking?"

"Yeah it's not that far either."

"Is it towards ***** street?"

She pauses for a moment, "Yeah, it is."

"Do you...wanna walk together?" I ask.

"Sure." I had a sense that she was smiling.

I started to walk again, but I stopped to properly introduce myself.

"I'm Jimin by the way." I reach my arm out to shake hands.

I felt her grasp and then shake my hand, "I'm Mina. Nice to meet you, Jimin."

That was months ago. Ever since, we've been talking about our work and hanging out together to let out some steam.

"What's it like performing on stage?" I would ask her.

"You feel nervous at first..." she says, "but it's one of the best feelings I've ever experienced."

"Do you think I'll ever get that experience?" My head dropped down.

It had been so long and I'm no where near where she is. My members have been trying to help me learn the new choreography without being able to see, but it's not working out as well as they thought it would. The way they're doing it is like a big guessing game for me.

Our group is based on group dance performances, but how am I supposed to be a part of the group when I can't even see them?

"You will." I feel her hand on my forearm, "You're going to do great things, Jimin."

"You really think so?" I was doubting myself.

"I do," she says, "you have an amazing voice and you danced for how many years before you lost your vision? You're more than ready."

I started dancing when I was around eleven years old. I went to an arts school to improve my skills early on. I can dance on my own, but it's a different story as a group.

But if Mina, a singer, a dancer, an idol, my friend. If she believes in me, I should believe in myself.

Mina has always been so kind to me. She's patient with me, we help each other out, and we support each other.

Although I've never seen her with my eyes, to me, she was one of the most beautiful people I've ever came across.

Being without my eyesight has gotten me to judge people based on their voices and how they treat others.

I was so curious that I asked Mina to describe herself to me one day.

"I'm nothing special." She said.

"I just want to know what I don't know. Please?"

She sighs, "Okay."

I start to listen, trying to come up with an image in my head.

"I have dark red hair-"

"Your hair's red??" I interrupt.

"I mean, it's dyed, but yes. My real hair color is black. Can I finish?"

"Sorry, sorry. Go ahead."

"Um...I have dark brown eyes, I'm about 163 centimeters tall..." She pauses, "What else do you want to know?"

"Hm...I don't know..do you have any distinct features?"

"Well I have a few small moles on my face." She says, "One on the side of the bridge of my nose, one above my upper lip, one by the right corner of my bottom lip and a really small one on the left side of my chin."

"Woah, really? Huh...I never would've guessed." I chuckle.

"Before I told you all that, what did you think I looked like?" She asks me.

I didn't really have an answer for that. I just had a general image of a girl in my head. I saw that whenever she spoke.

"I don't know." I say, "I didn't really think about it that much. I judge people based on their voice and how they speak to me."

"Mm." I couldn't see her but she was probably nodding, "Is that why we're friends?" She asks.

"What are you saying?"

"We became close so quickly, why is that?"

I thought about it.

"Because you treated me differently." I say, " A lot of people just assume I can't do things on my own and they treat me like they feel bad for me... but you weren't like that."

"I'm glad we're friends." She says.

"I am too." I smile, "Thanks for believing in me."

"I'm so proud of you, Jimin. You've come so far in such short time."

"I couldn't have done it without you."
