(Concept: Mina and Jungkook are close friends, but Jungkook has had feelings for her for a long time. One day, they go out with friends and the night ends much different than they expected)
(Jungkook POV)
"Cheers! This one's on me."
"Ah, you don't have to do that, hyung."
"Come on, it's your birthday. I insist."
We were celebrating Hobi-hyung's birthday today. We went to a noraebong earlier and now we're having dinner his favorite restaurant together. There weren't too many of us, but our party was bigger than your average family going to a restaurant to eat.
I happened to be sitting next to Mina. Everyone raised their glasses and I watched as she downed almost half of the glass.
I looked at her, wide-eyed, "I thought you couldn't drink that much."
I remembered that Mina had said her body doesn't react well to alcohol.
She shrugs, "I'll be fine. I don't do this often anyways."
I wasn't going to stop her, but I kept an eye on her out of the corner of my eye. I drank, but not enough for me to get drunk. I was a little buzzed, but it wore off by the time we were done.
Hobi had drank so much he was laughing and his face was red. Luckily, when it was time for us to leave, some of us stayed sober and no one went home alone. We went in groups since some of us lived near each other and some of didn't. I live near Mina so I escorted her home, except she was definitely drunk. I was basically holding her up as we walked. She gets sleepy when she's drunk, so she had her head hanging down. I tried to talk to her so people walking by wouldn't get the wrong idea.
At some point, it hit me that it was just us. I had her arm over my shoulder and my arm around her waist to support her. I felt my heart jump, but I shook that feeling off quickly. Just because I have feelings for her, doesn't mean I get to bend reality. I'm just taking her home. We're just friends.
I've had feelings for her for a long time now, but I never said anything. I watched her get a boyfriend and go through a breakup all while I felt like this. She's always been a good friend to me. We've known each other so long.
We made it back to her apartment, but I couldn't unlock the door because I didn't know her passcode.
"Mina, can you unlock the door?" I whisper because it was late and her neighbors were probably asleep.
She groans, but enters the code to open the door. I helped her inside until we got to the couch where she sat down and put her head against a pillow.
I sat with her for a while, but I thought I should probably get going.
"Are you gonna be alright?" I ask, "I should head home now."
"No..." She puts her hand on my leg.
"You might have a hangover tomorrow. You should get some sleep."
I start to stand, but she grabs my arm.
"No...don't go." She pulls my arm.
"Mina..." I sigh.
"Please, don't go."
"I can't stay here."
Her hand goes down from my arm to my hand, "You can stay."
She had lifted her head so she was looking right at me.
"You...you want me to stay?" I ask.
She nods, "I love you...please don't go."
She was still staring at me, but I sat there like an idiot not knowing what to do. I pretended like I didn't hear what she just said. It doesn't matter because she's probably not going to remember this anyways.
"Mina, please just get some rest."
I try to leave again, but this time, she stops me from leaving with a hug. She held onto me tight and her breathing became heavy, I thought she was going to start crying.
"Okay, okay!" I hug her back, "I'll stay. Don't cry."
She rubs her head against my chest. I felt my heart jump again, except this time, it kept jumping.
What is happening?
I replayed the situation in my mind, trying to make sense of it. She must have confused me for her ex or something. I remember she was like this when they broke up and he was the one to leave. She's probably not over him yet.
I got her to go to bed, but I still had a problem. She still didn't want me to leave.
"You said you'd stay." She says.
"I know, but..."
"You can just sleep next to me."
I cannot do that. If she wakes up sober and finds me in her bed, what is she going to think?
"I move around a lot in my sleep." I make up an excuse, "I think I'll just sleep on the couch."
Luckily, she fell asleep fast and I was able to sneak out and go home.
But still, I couldn't sleep that night. My thoughts kept me awake.
The next day, she called me. I was worried about what she might be calling about, but I couldn't just ignore it.
"Mina, hey."
"Hey." She sounded a bit down.
"Are you feeling okay? You had a lot to drink last night."
"I'm okay." She says, "But are you the one that walked me home last night? I don't remember how I got home."
"Yeah that was me. Just wanted to make sure you got back safe."
After about a minute, I couldn't stop myself from asking.
"So...you don't remember anything from last night?"
"Not really. The last thing I remember was saying bye to everyone at the restaurant." She pauses, "Why? Did something happen?"
I laugh nervously, "About that..."
I told her everything. I needed to so I could get a clear answer.
"Jungkook...I'm so sorry." She sighs, "I don't know how to tell you this."
"It's okay. I understand if you just confused me for your ex. You weren't in the right mind."
"No, Jungkook. I didn't confuse you with anyone."
My heart stopped beating for a second.
"That was just me being honest." She says, "I didn't want it to come out like that though."
"Oh..." I was still trying to process what she said.
"I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable."
"That's the thing." I laugh awkwardly, "I...feel that way too. I've actually felt like this for a long time, I just never had the courage to tell you and then you got a boyfriend and then you broke up and I never thought it was a good time-"
"Jungkook." She stops me, "I understand. I didn't know how to tell you either, it just sort of came out."
There was an awkward silence.
"So...what now?" She asks.
"Hm...can I come over? I feel like we need to talk about this face to face."
"What's there to talk about? I love you, you love me. Isn't this what you wanted?"
"Yeah." I chuckle, "And right now I really want to see you. I'm coming over."
She laughs too, "Maybe you should've never left last night."
