Taemina: Save You

(Ship and concept requested by yoko_win )

(Concept: Taehyung and Mina lived a happy life together, until something happens and Taehyung loses Mina in a terrible accident. Something strange happens and Taehyung is given a chance to go back and save Mina)

(Taehyung POV)

"Jagi-ya, sorry I'm late. I was stuck at work longer than I expected."

The sun was already setting. I sat down beside her, looking out over the view.

"Your parents called me on the way here. They wanted to know how I was doing."

My hands brush against the grass as I talk.

"Your mom really misses you. She told me to tell you that she loves you very much. Your dad still seems sad, but it's normal to feel that way. I still feel sad too."

Mina's mom has been worried about me. I told her I'm doing okay, but I'm still grieving. Her dad was fairly quiet during the call.

A gust of wind makes me shiver. It was getting dark out now.

"I guess I should head home now. It's getting late." I rub the top of her headstone, brushing any dust off of it.

"I love you, Mina. Good night, my love."

I left the cemetery with that same bittersweet feeling. I'm still upset that she's gone, but what can I do? I can't bring her back. Our home is quiet now that she's gone. I have no one to talk to, no one to kiss good night. I still leave her side of the bed empty. I haven't brought myself to move any of her belongings. I can't just erase her from my life like that. I still wear my wedding ring. She was wearing hers when they buried her. It's been almost a month now. I still can't sleep at night.

Tonight though, I finally touched her things and I tried wrapping one of my pillows with her shirt and slept with my arms around it. It still smelled like her. I was able to trick myself into thinking she was still here and I fell asleep.

____________

My eyes blink open, but they still felt heavy. They open wide when I see her. Am I still dreaming? I fell asleep holding my pillow, but when I woke up, I was holding Mina. She's here. I can feel  her; is this really a dream? I wanted to hug her even tighter, but she was still asleep and I didn't want to wake her.

She startled me when she moved, just stirring in her sleep. She opens her eyes and she finds me gazing at her.

She laughs softly, "Good morning."

"G-good morning." I managed to hold back my tears, but I couldn't stop myself from hugging her tighter. If this was a dream, it felt so real.

"We should get up soon." She yawns, "I have to return the dress by 2."

"The dress..?" This suddenly started to feel familiar to me.

I look over towards the vanity and see Mina's wedding dress hanging over the chair. My suit was sitting on the trunk beside it. This is the day after our wedding. I remember it so vividly. Mina starts to get out of bed, but I just sit there, still trying to process what's going on.

She makes her way to the bathroom to wash up, but she turns around when she notices I'm not following, "Aren't you coming?"

____________

I kept waiting and waiting to wake up from this dream, but it never happened. I was starting to think this wasn't a dream. Did I really travel back in time? Does that mean I can change the outcomes of the future? If we do things differently, will the future be different?

Can I...save her?

Is that possible? I had to find out.

The day she died, she was on her way to work. She took the bus, but some guys were racing their cars down the road. One of them couldn't stop in time and  they collided with the bus. The bus that Mina was on. The guy was going so fast, the crash flipped the bus. Only two out of the twenty people on the bus survived. Mina wasn't one of them.

I had to wait for that day to come again. I lived everyday leading up to that almost exactly the same. i had to test if I could really change the future though. So I tried doing a few things differently. Over these few weeks, things already ended up differently. So it is possible.

When that day arrived, I made sure to be awake bright and early. Mina was surprised to see me up so early.

"I thought you were going to sleep in today?" She says.

"It's such a nice day today." I shrug, "The weather's beautiful. What do you think about walking to work together today?"

She liked the idea, so we left early so we could get to work on time. Her office is along the way to mine, so I dropped her off before going into work.

We held hands as we walked, talking about everything and anything. We got to her office earlier than we expected.

"What time do you get off today?" She asks, holding both of my hands now.

"I get off at six, what about you?"

"I'll be done around five, but I'll wait for you so we can walk home together." She smiles.

"You'll wait for me? Where?" I was a little worried that something might happen to her if she waited outside.

"I can wait with a few of the members, I think they're staying late to practice some more. Just call me when you're done so I can meet you halfway."

"No, it's okay." I insist, "I'll just meet you here and call you when I'm outside."

"Okay. This was a good idea, yeobo. We should do this more often." She kisses my cheek.i pull her back for a real kiss before we said goodbye.

"I'll see you later, jagi." She says, "I love you."

"And I love you, baby. Have a good day at work."

I watch her walk into the building before heading to mine. I checked my phone and saw the news. That same car crash happened at the exact same time, except this time, Mina wasn't anywhere near it.

I wish I could've stopped the crash from happening completely, so all of those people wouldn't be dead, but I couldn't figure out a way to do that. I couldn't stop the bus and I couldn't stop those cars. This was my best option.

I couldn't focus at work. What if something else happened to Mina? What if I can't change what happens to her in the end? I had to find out.

I was out of work as soon as the clock struck six. I called Mina as I approached her building. I panicked when she didn't answer the first time, but she called me back right after that.

"Jagi-ya, are you outside?" She asks.

"Yes, I just got here. How was work?"

She laughs, "I'll tell you when I get outside. Give me a minute."

She hangs up and I wait for her to come down. She greets me as she walks out the door, "Oppa! How was-"

I interrupt her, giving her a big hug. I held her tight and close, lifting her off her feet.I set her down gently before recollecting myself, "Sorry You were saying?"

"How was your day?"

"Good. Even better now that I'm with you."

Soon, I forgot all about what it was like before. When Mina was gone, now that felt like it was a dream, or rather, a nightmare. I don't know what kind of magic happened that night, but I will forever be grateful for this second chance.

Now that I've reached the point where I caught up with the old reality, I get to make new memories with Mina.

I get to live the life I had always dreamed of, except this time, it isn't a dream.
