Taetzu: Got Your Back
(ship requested by Chewyceur and chewydubuu)
(Taehyung and Tzuyu are best friends in highschool. Tzuyu is known as the "pretty girl" in school)
(Taehyung POV)
I was waiting next to the tree right by the west entrance of the school. This is where Tzuyu and I always meet up before school and sometimes after school when we hang out.
I bike to school, but Tzuyu walks. I usually get here about five minutes before she does. We still have a lot of time before class starts.
As expected, right on time, Tzuyu walks through the gate, looking right at me.
"Morning." I greet her.
"Morning." She smiles, "Were you waiting long?"
I shake my head, "Not at all. But even if I was, I wouldn't mind."
We walked around campus while we waited for the bell to ring. We walked through the pavilion, where most kids hang out before school and during lunch.
I was too busy talking to Tzuyu, I didn't realize so many people were staring at us as we passed by.
It's mostly the guys. They always stare whenever she walks by. Tzuyu must have gotten used to it by now, but it's still kind of rude. I'd catch a guy staring at her and stare right back at him. When he noticed me glaring at him, he'd usually stop.
No, Tzuyu and I aren't dating, but to anyone that doesn't know us, it would look like we were a couple.
I first realized this a few months ago with an interaction with a classmate.
"Hey, Taehyung." My classmate that sat behind me poked my shoulder.
"Hm? Yeah?"
"Are you dating Tzuyu?" He asked.
"What?" I laughed, "No, we're not dating."
"Oh, then can I ask her out?"
"Why are you asking me this?"
"Because you're always with her. But I guess since you're not dating, I can ask her out then."
Tzuyu never had a boyfriend. Plenty of guys asked her out, but I don't think she ever said yes to any of them.
One of our classmates has been trying to get her to go on a date with him for the longest time. I'm really about to lose my patience with him.
The bell rings and we have to start heading to our separate classes.
"I'll see you at lunch, right?" I ask Tzuyu.
"Mhm. Let's sit by the stairs this time. There's more shade over there."
"Alright, sounds good." I say, "I'll see you later."
"Bye, Tae."
When lunch rolled around, I went to the cafeteria to get my food first before joining Tzuyu outside.
I walked out with my tray and I immediately spotted something strange. Tzuyu was sitting where we planned to meet, but there was someone standing in front of her. He was talking to her, but Tzuyu wouldn't look him in the eyes.
I walked closer and realize who it was. That same guy who's been bothering her for the past few weeks.
I got close enough to hear what he was saying to her.
"Just give me a chance, please, would you?" He was basically begging her.
Tzuyu was quiet, "Sorry...I...I don't-"
"Come on! You're gonna love me! I'll treat you like royalty!" He keeps trying to convince her.
I finally stepped in, "She's not interested."
Both of their heads turn to me. Tzuyu looked relieved to see me.
"Tch. And who are you? Her boyfriend?" He looked irritated.
"Yes, actually. I am." I lied just to get him to leave her alone.
"Since when? You always said you weren't dating. Prove it."
"I don't have to prove anything to you."
The two of us were arguing and Tzuyu was just sitting there watching us bicker.
"Then there's nothing wrong with me asking her on a date." He says.
"Can't you take a hint? She's not into you!"
"Why are you telling me this? She can tell me that herself."
Both of us look to Tzuyu, who was startled when all the attention was suddenly on her.
"So which is it, Tzuyu?" He changes his vibe as soon as he speaks to her.
Tzuyu looks at him and then at me.
"I can't go out with you. I already have a boyfriend." She spoke to him, but she was looking at me through the corner of her eye.
He sighs, "Fine. I'm too good for you anyways." He walks away, leaving us alone.
Tzuyu lets out a a sigh of relief, "You got here just in time."
"Just in time? I should've been here before this even started. What the hell happened?"
Tzuyu explains that the guy was in her last class and he had been following her since that class ended. He kept bothering her when she went to get her food and he wouldn't leave her alone until she gave him what he wanted.
I thought things would change after today's incident, but it was still a problem. Guys just couldn't leave her alone. What annoyed me even more was that they ignored me while I was with her. They acted like I wasn't even there.
I had to pull the fake boyfriend card again plenty of times. Eventually, Tzuyu said I should just pretend to be her boyfriend all of the time. After we started doing that, guys started to leave her alone.
It was good that the guys weren't bothering her anymore, but...this whole thing wasn't good for me. I knew it was an act, but it made me feel things.
I already had feelings for Tzuyu before, but I pushed them away because we were just friends. Now that we're pretending to be dating, my mind wants it to be real so bad.
I would hold her hand while we walked down the hall to make it obvious. I thought about it at the end of the day, but it made me sad when I remembered it was all fake. It was fake to her, but it wasn't for me. I did my part and acted as her boyfriend. In return, I got what I wished was real.
This went on for a while. Over time, I couldn't hold it in anymore. I wasn't pretending anymore.
"What if we just actually date? Instead of pretending?" I ask her.
She laughs, "We might as well."
Did she think I was joking?
"I'm being serious." I say, "Do you wanna go out sometime?"
"You're asking me out on a date?"
"Yeah. I wanna go out with you."
We gave it a try, but it was just like the things we did at school. The only difference was we both knew we weren't pretending anymore.
Now we didn't have to worry about being "believable" at school, because we were the real deal now.
I don't know why we didn't do this sooner.
