(Taehyung POV)

People keep telling me that the right person will come, that the one for me is still out there, but I've already found the one I want to be with.

Except, we can't be together right now. We've been in the "talking phase" for more than a year now.

But I'm willing to wait if it's for her.

We tell people we're "best friends" right now, but we both know we want to be more than that.

Everyone knows that. That's why no one else ever comes near us, because they think I'm her boyfriend or she's my girlfriend.

Our members keep teasing us, but we don't care. They were right anyways.

"Just date already!" 

"You two are driving us crazy!" 

But we can't date. At least, not yet. 

Twice still has a dating ban. From what I've heard, every JYPE artist has a dating ban of three years after their debut date. 

Trust me, if we could, we would. This is just how it is right now. 

Anyways, today is New Year's eve and Jungkook wants to throw a small party. He told me he invited a bunch of our idol friends, including Twice. I'm not doing anything tonight so I thought I'd go. 

Jungkook had me and the guys help him set up before the party started. 

We finished pulling the drinks out of the fridge and that's when people started showing up. 

It was evening right now, but I think just about everyone planned on staying passed midnight. 

I sat on the couch, watching our friends brawl it out in a karaoke match.

Tzuyu arrived later with a few of her members.

"Hey." She took a seat next to me. 

"Oh, hey. Didn't know I'd be seeing you tonight." 

She laughs softly, "But you're glad I'm here aren't you?"

I try to hold in my smile, but I couldn't help feeling butterflies in my stomach. She knew what she was doing.

According to her members, she's only like this around me. But I guess it's nice to know.

It started getting late and everyone was winding down. The party started all energetic and upbeat, but now, everyone was mostly lounging on the couch and on the floor, some even falling asleep.

But everyone started getting excited again once the clock got closer to Midnight. Tzuyu seemed especially excited.

"One more minute! Everyone get ready!"

The excitement all built up to this moment. Some people brought out the party poppers, while others got ready to pop open the champagne.

While everyone else stood up, Tzuyu and I had the corner of the couch all to ourselves.

"Just a few more seconds!" She says, shaking my arm.

"Five!"

"Four!"

"Three!"

"Two!"

"One!!"

"Happy new year!!!"

I barely even saw it, but Tzuyu quickly leaned over and kissed my cheek.

"Happy new year, Tae." She smiles.

"W-what was that?" I was still shocked.

And then I realized. The new year...is three years after the year they debuted. Their dating ban should be over now.

I realized I could finally do what I've been waiting for.

I pull her towards me to kiss her again, but on the lips this time.

It felt like an electric shock ran through my body. She let herself slowly fall into my embrace as we kissed.

"Ugh, get a room, you two! For real!" I hear Jungkook laugh at us.

We stopped kissing before everyone turned their heads to look our way, but they all probably knew what we had been doing anyways.

I look at Tzuyu, whose face was tinted pink. She was blushing.

I lost track of time, but it started getting late. I had to stay though, so I could help Jungkook clean up and stuff.

The Twice members were some of the last ones to depart. Before they left, Tzuyu pulled me to the side.

I thought she was going to ask me something or say something, but she just wanted another kiss. I didn't mind.

"Good night, 'best friend'." She laughs softly and then walks out of the door.

I just stand there, still lovestruck from the kiss, until I realize what I needed to do.

I run after her out the door; they had already gotten in their car and we're about to drive off.

"Wait! Wait! Tzuyu-ah!" I call as the car slowly starts moving.

The window of the back passenger seat rolls down with Tzuyu sitting there.

"Taehyung-ah!" She waves her hand out of the window.

"Tzuyu-ah! Be my girlfriend!!" I shout with my entire chest.

I couldn't hear her over the noise outside, but she was smiling.

"Taehyung! You want me to be your girlfriend?"

"Yes!"

"I'll be your girlfriend!"

The car was still moving away, but I kept going after it.

"Tzuyu-ah! I love you!"

"I love you, too!"

I stopped running when the car got too far for me to chase.

I've waited so long just to say those three words to her. I just know that all of that waiting will be worth it.
