Tzukook: Dance With Me
(ship requested by haeknojaem)
(Concept: Tzuyu and Jungkook both started dancing at a young age. They met as rivals, but ended up as partners in the long run)
(Jungkook POV)
"Come on, one last run and then we can wrap it up." I walk over to start the music again.
Tzuyu was sitting on the floor. We were both exhausted, but we had to keep going just a little longer if want to qualify.
You see, Tzuyu and I had signed up for a national dance competition. The qualifiers are in two days. We've been working on this routine for about four weeks now.
"You said that two runs ago." Tzuyu sighs.
"I know, I know, but for real this time." I offer her my hand to help her up.
We went through the routine one last time. I think we have it down pretty good, now we just need to focus on the little details like our facial expressions and eye contact. The judges dig that.
Tzuyu stays over at my place when we work all day like this. She sleeps here so we can work on it again tomorrow morning. This is a big competition; if we want to move on, we have to work hard.
We both slept in my living room. She slept on the couch and I slept on the floor. It wouldn't be fair if only one of us slept in a bed. Besides, I didn't have a TV in my bedroom. We stayed up a little bit to watch part of a movie together before going to sleep.
The day of the competition rolls around and I think we're more than ready. We prepared special outfits as a final touch. I mean, we had to look good, right?
When it was our turn on stage, I was hyper-focused. The crowd didn't make me nervous. I was only focusing on Tzuyu and the music. I closed my eyes as the beat counted us in.
Tick, tick, tick, tick
It went by so fast. All of that practice paid off; it came so easily and naturally to me now. Tzuyu was amazing. I love dancing with her.
Before I knew it, we were in our ending pose, breathing hard with the crowd cheering for us.
Compared to the acts before us, we were a breath of fresh air. The scores were calculated right away. We got a 97.5, which was the highest score so far.
When we got off stage, Tzuyu was so happy, she hugged me.
I laughed, "You're hugging me? You never hug me."
"What? You don't want my hug? Fine." She lets go of me.
"That's not what I meant!" I caught her arm and hugged her back, "You were amazing out there."
She playfully pushes me away, "We were amazing out there."
The next day, when went straight to work on our next routine for the next round. There's a total of three rounds in this competition.
We were deciding on a song to use, but we couldn't figure out if we wanted to use an upbeat song or something more sentimental.
Eventually we settled on this.
We had to edit it a bit to fit the time frame, but it was just right. It was actually Tzuyu's choice, but I really liked it. She also did most of the choreographing.
I started to understand the song the more we listened to it.
Can I be him?
Basically...can I be yours?
I shook the thoughts out of my head and tried to focus, but I started thinking about our story.
How we first met as kids, as rivals, at a youth dance competition.
How our parents became friends, which kind of forced us to get to know each other.
How we eventually started hanging out more than our parents did.
How much I wanted to tell her what she meant to me.
How I think...I'm in love with her.
I just put my feelings aside to focus on dance. I like our relationship now, but I have to admit, I have imagined how things would be if we were more than this.
"Do you think it would be too much to add a quick kiss at the end?" She asks, facing away from me.
"A...kiss?" Is she implying that she wants to kiss me?
"Yeah. I don't know. The audience likes that kind of stuff. It's okay, nevermind."
Knowing her, she was probably blushing.
"Wait." I say, "How about...we try it out?"
I walk over to her and take her hand, placing my other one on her mid-back. She puts her other hand on my shoulder.
"How should I do it?" I whisper.
"Um..." She was flustered, "You can choose this part."
I pull her closer and gently kiss her lips. She tugged me even closer, deepening the kiss. I wanted this to last forever.
I let myself fall back so we're up against the wall. Her hand that was on my shoulder went down to my chest, feeling my heartbeat.
Eventually, I pull away, but she hugs me, letting my chin fall onto her shoulder.
"How was that?" I ask.
She chuckles, "Let's keep it short for the performance."
She lets me go and I hold her out in front of me.
"I really like you, Tzuyu." I say, "I always have."
She smiles shyly, "I've had a thing for you for a while. Maybe that's why we made such a good team."
Our relationship was kind of weird to be honest. Seeing us hanging out together or dancing together, you'd think we were dating, but for the longest time, whenever someone asked, we denied it.
Maybe it's time we embrace it.
"Will you be my girlfriend? Like, officially now?" I ask her.
She nods, "I'd like that."
She was right, we did make a good team.
As soon as we started dancing together as boyfriend and girlfriend instead of best friends, we performed so much better, it was incredible.
We were incredible.
