JK: I'll be home soon
JK: do you want me to bring home dinner?
Seen 10m ago
I stared at my phone, a bit confused. Tzuyu hasn't responded to any of my messages since this morning, even though she's seen all of them. I understand if she's busy, but it's not usually like this.
I went to pick up something for us to eat even if she didn't respond. I got her favorite because I had a feeling she wasn't feeling well or she was upset about something.
I unlocked the door to our apartment and stepped in cautiously.
"Tzu?" I call, "I'm home."
The house was strangely silent. It made me uneasy.
All of the lights were off except the light in our bedroom. I figured she must be in there. I set the food down before going to our room.
The door was cracked open slightly, so I peeked inside. I saw Tzuyu laying in bed, blankets wrapped around her, and facing away from the door.
"Tzu, are you okay..?" I spoke quietly.
She didn't move. I went over to the other side of the bed so I could see her face. She was awake, staring right at me.
"Hey, are you okay? What's wrong?" I ask, putting my hand on her shoulder.
She just turns away from me.
"Tzuyu..." I was confused, "What's wrong?"
"You really forgot?" She mutters.
"Forgot what..."
She scoffs, "I guess it must not be important to you then."
I felt my heart drop.
Her phone was sitting on the nightstand, so I gave it a tap to look at today's date.
August 8th. Our anniversary.
I sigh, "I'm so sorry, love. We've just been so busy with work, I didn't even know what day it was today, I'm sorry."
She still wouldn't say anything to me.
"Baby, I just made a mistake. I didn't mean to."
She sits up to look at me, "How long have we been together?"
"Three years, going on four."
"Promise me you won't forget next time."
"I won't forget ever again, I promise." I open my arms and she joins me for a hug.
She squeezes me tight, "Now how are we going to celebrate?"
____________
"Do you remember our first date?"
"I'll always remember our first date."
"Do you remember what you told me?" She asks.
We were having dinner together, chatting away and reflecting about our relationship over the past few years.
I pause to think, "Hm...what did I tell you?"
She looks at me, expectantly.
"Oh! Right." I finally remembered, "I told you that you were the first person I've ever felt this kind of love for. Right?"
She nods, smiling, "And that's something I'll always remember. I think about it a lot."
That smile on her face made me feel guilty again.
"I'm sorry." I mumble.
"Sorry? For what?"
"I'm sorry for forgetting today. This day is important to me, I just got so caught up with work, I lost track of the days and I didn't know it was so soon and-"
She reaches across the table to hold my hand, "I know I was upset earlier, but it's okay, really. I know you love me."
"Thank you...for understanding."
After dinner, we spent some more time together. We sat on the floor, looking through old pictures and videos. The first picture Tzuyu has of me on my phone was a picture she took of me when I wasn't looking. The first photo I had of her was a picture I took of her the first time we went to a restaurant together. I remember asking her to smile for the picture and if it was okay for me to post it on my Instagram.
These things always put a smile on my face.
"Next year, I'll put something special together for us." I told her.
"Something special? Like what?"
"Let's go on a trip." I suggest, "Somewhere nice where we can be alone and I can do this all I want."
She turns towards me, waiting for me to explain, but I just lean in to kiss her. She pulls me closer, kissing me slowly.
"I love you." She whispers, keeping close and our foreheads touching.
"And I love you." I smile, "With all my heart."
She rests her head on my shoulder, rubbing her hands along my back.
"I wanna be with you forever." She says.
"I'll stay with you as long as I live."
"When are you going to propose to me?" She asks jokingly.
I laugh, "If I tell you, it won't be surprise."
"It doesn't have to be a surprise."
"Okay. What's your ring size?" I joke around as well.
"What? I thought you knew that already."
"The last time I got you a ring was last year. It could've changed." I shrug.
She laughs softly, squeezing me tighter.
She lets go of me to look me in the eyes, "Do you remember what I told you when you asked me to be your girlfriend?"
"That you'd be my girlfriend, but I had to take this seriously?"
"Yes, but after that, I said something else too."
I had to think about it for a moment, but I did remember.
"Oh, you said you wanted people to know I have a girlfriend."
"Right." She nods, "But that was before I thought about our careers."
I chuckle, but she gets up to go get something from our room. She returns with a small box in her hands.
"Here." She hands me the box, "Happy anniversary."
"Wait." I get up, "I got you something too."
I told you, I didn't forget. I bought the gift a few weeks ago and hid it in the closet. I come back and give her a similar sized box to what she gave me.
"Should we open them at the same time?" She suggests.
"Sure. Ready?"
I count to three and we lift the lids at the same time. Her gift to me was a necklace, fairly similar to the one I got her. I smile and look over at her to see her reaction.
"Wait- this is almost the same."
"I know. I guess we had the same idea."
The necklaces both had a small, flat charm. On mine, both sides had the number eight.
"Eight?" I ask.
"Yeah, for our anniversary. August is the eighth month of the year and our anniversary is August eight."
"Ah. Clever. You're much more creative than me."
The necklace I gave her simply had a letter J on one side and a letter T on the other, but both letters were in my handwriting.
We help each other out the necklaces on.
"We match." She smiles.
I smile at the sight of her adorable smile. I just can't help it.
"I love you." I whisper, pulling her towards me.
"I love you too, baby~" She kisses me softly.
Even if the day didn't exactly go as planned, I still enjoyed the time we spent together. I always do. I didn't take my eyes off of her for the rest of the night. In bed, she fell asleep before I did and I laid there, watching her until I eventually drifted off to sleep.
I fell asleep with a smile on my face, thinking about the memories we made today.
