Vhyun: Coach

(Ship requested by ZlataChervatiuk )

(Concept: Dahyun is in her last year of high school and Taehyung recently graduated. It's Dahyun's first year on the school's soccer team and they have a new assistant coach)

(Dahyun POV)

"Why did coach have practice early today? Are we in trouble?"

"Why would we be in trouble? We didn't do anything wrong."

"Maybe she has a surprise for us."

"Don't get your hopes up."

I listened to my teammates talk while we changed into our practice clothes. This is my first year on the school soccer team and the season just started so I'm still getting used to things.

"Two minutes!" Our team captain shouts, letting us know we have to be outside and ready soon.

The chatting died down as we got to the field.

"Everyone take a seat, please." Our coach says.

Coach Lee is usually really nice, but when she gets serious, it can be scary.

"I called practice early today so you all can meet your new assistant coach. Coach Kim, please introduce yourself."

We all turn around and we see someone sitting on the bench behind us. None of us noticed him before. He's our assistant coach? He looks like he's our age; he's so young. I thought he was cute, but I immediately shook that idea off when I remembered he's our new coach.

He walks up in front of us, "Hey, my name is Kim Taehyung, you can call me Coach Kim. I graduated from this school about two years ago and I used to be on the boy's soccer team. Coach Lee reached out and told me you guys were in need of an assistant coach, so here I am."

It was quiet for a moment before someone raised their hand.

"Yes, you have a question?" He asks.

"If you played for the boy's team, why are you coaching the girl's team?"

He smiles, "Well, girl's soccer isn't too different from boy's soccer. Girls can be just as aggressive as the guys, so the techniques I used as an athlete will probably be effective for you too."

"Coach Kim can teach you guys some useful tactics, so please respect him as you would respect me." Coach Lee says, "Understood?"

"Yes, coach."

____________

As soon as we got to warm up, everyone started talking about him.

"If he graduated two years ago, that means he's probably twenty years old."

"He was our senior when we were first-years then."

"I wonder what position he played."

I think I remember him. My friend was dating someone on the soccer team back then and I think I remember seeing him when she dragged us along to watch their games. Watching them play is what got me interested in soccer. I'm pretty sure he was the center forward since he was scoring most of the points. But he wasn't a ball hog. He was like a leader, but he worked well with his team. I had faith that he would help our team to the best of his ability.

Coach Lee wanted us to scrimmage each other so Coach Kim could get an idea of how we play. I felt pressured with him watching us, but I think that actually helped me play better.

When we finished, the two coaches were talking privately and then Coach Kim called a few of us over.

"Yubin, Minseol, Dahyun, and Jiwoo, come here please."

He had a smile on his face when we came over, so I didn't think we were in trouble.

"Good work out there." He says, "Dahyun and Jiwoo, I really liked your teamwork and your communication with each other. Yubin and Minseol, great job being aggressive defenders."

He called us over here just to compliment us?

"Overall, great work." He puts his hands together, "However...you guys should be more spread out. I understand you work well with each other, but being bunched up like that is what cost you those few points."

Ah, there it is.

"You can use those same tactics next time, just be conscious of your space." He nods, "Thank you, you're dismissed."

I thought he was done, but he wasn't.

"Except for you, Dahyun-ssi. Can I talk to you for a second?"

"Yes, coach?"

He looks down towards my legs, "Why are you limping?"

"Oh.." I didn't think anyone would notice, "My left foot has been hurting for a few days."

He motions me to sit down on the bench, "I've been studying sports medicine, so I'm gonna try to help you out if that's okay."

I nod.

"Alright. Let's take a look."

____________

"Ow-"

"Sorry, did that hurt? Tell me if I'm pressing too hard."

"It's okay. I can handle it."

He was massaging my calf and he was pressing kind of hard. He explained that my foot could be hurting because the muscles in my calf are tight so he's trying to loosen them up.

I felt a little embarrassed as the other girls would look at me whenever I winced in pain.

He tried to have small talk with me while he worked.

"I think I recognize you, Dahyun-ssi, what year are you in?" He asks

"I'm a third year, so we must have been classmates for a little bit."

He nods, "Is this your first year on the team though?"

"It is." I hesitated for a moment, but I said it anyway, "You were actually the reason I got interested in soccer."

A small smile forms on his face, but he kept his head down.

"You saw me play?" He asks.

"I saw you play plenty of times. I would go with my friend so she could see her boyfriend, but I noticed you too."

He laughs, "Can I tell you something?"

"Sure..?"

"I noticed you as soon as you stepped on the field."

____________

"Dahyun-ah, did I see you with Coach Kim yesterday?"

"Eh? Where?"

"At the convenience store."

"Oh, yeah. We ran into each other and he just said hi."

I laugh it off, but it was really nervous laughter. I can't let my teammates find out I'm dating Coach Kim, er, Taehyung. It'll make things super awkward if they find out, especially if Coach Lee finds out.

We only started dating a few weeks ago, but it's hard to hide it. Tae met me after school today so he could walk me home before practice.

"Are you going to walk with me to practice too?" I asked him.

He shrugs, "Do you want me to?"

I slowly shake my head, "I don't want everyone to see us walk in together."

He forces a smile, "Right. I'll just walk with you until we get to the school, then I'll go a different way to the field."

I put my hand on his shoulder, "Thank you. It's not you, I love you, I just don't want you to get in any trouble."

"I understand and...I love you too."

(Taehyung POV)

"Go after it!" I shout from the sidelines.

I was watching the girls scrimmage again. Dahyun was on offense like usual. I walk around while they're playing real games, but I stayed on the bench today. I didn't want to be a distraction to her.

The ball goes over to Dahyun's area and she stops it, but another girl on the opposing side was going after it too. The other girl tried to slide kick the ball away, but Dahyun moved at the last second and got kicked right in the shin.

She fell to the ground, holding her leg. I decided to step in when she didn't get up right away.

"Give her some space!" Coach Lee tells the other girls. She was concerned as well, but she was letting me handle it for the most part.

I kneel down to talk to Dahyun. She was squinting in pain.

"How bad is it? Do you think you can stand?" I ask her.

She shakes her head, "It hurts..."

I get up with a new idea, "Here." I offer her my hand, "Just stand on your other leg and slowly put your injured leg on the ground."

I slowly help her up and she holds onto my shoulder to keep balance. I watch her lower her foot to the ground. She flinches when she applies pressure to her injury.

"Okay, okay. That's enough." I say.

I lean towards her ear to whisper, "I'm just gonna carry you, okay?"

She starts to shake her head, "No, no-"

"Dahyun-ah, you're hurt. You can't walk." I say, "Let me do this for you."

With that, she nods.

I brought her over to the bench in the shade. After testing a few things, I determined that she didn't break anything, luckily. It seems she just got badly bruised. I sat next to her while she iced her leg and the other girls finished their scrimmage.

"How are you going to get home?" I ask her.

"What do you mean?"

"You walked here."

"Oh..." She pouts, "Right."

"I can carry you."

"What? No, Tae, that's way too far."

"It's not, really." I insist, "I can give you a piggyback ride and it'll be easier."

"If you hurt yourself, I'm gonna feel bad."

"And I'm gonna feel bad if you force yourself to walk home on an injury."

____________

"Alright, this is your stop." I say, kneeling to let her down.

She doesn't get down right away, she just squeezes me tighter.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"Thank you, oppa." She rubs her cheek against my shoulder.

I chuckle, "You're welcome."

She's so cute.

She gives me a kiss on the cheek before hopping off.

"What time are you leaving tomorrow?" I ask.

"Probably six thirty or so. Why?"

"I'll give you a ride to school."

"You have a car?"

I shake my head, "No, but I have a bike. I have class in the morning too, so I can just drop you off on my way there."

"Okay." She smiles.

She turns to the door, but then turns back around as if she forgot something.

"Thank you, Tae." She kisses me softly, " I love you."

I kiss her back, returning the favor, "I love you, too."

Even after she went inside and we split ways, I still had that warm feeling in my heart. She makes me so happy.

At first, I was hesitant to take this coaching job, but now I'm so glad I did.
