Winner Takes The Date

The first match of the season was as per usual, Slytherin vs. Gryffindor. It was a rough match and I suspected Slytherin tampered with the bludger, but even than Harry Potter, the Gryffindor seeker, caught the snitch, breaking his arm in the process.

Gryffindors victory only stirred me to continue intense practice with my team. Practices regularly happened in the rain, as I refused for it to hinder our schedule. The Ravenclaw vs. Hufflepuff match was held only two weeks after the Gryffindor vs. Slytherin one. Not to mention the new teammates that made the team in tryouts have yet to prove their abilities. In fact, the majority of the Ravenclaw team were fresh faces. Elio Clive, Randolph Burrow, and Roger Davies were the only players other than myself that remained.

Our replacement of Anna as the seeker was a second-year Ravenclaw Cho Chang. She proved to have a good eye in tryouts and seemed to be overall agile on her broom. Then there was the new beater Jason Samuels, who was a blonde heavy set fourth year who had an exceptionally strong grip, and a heavy swing. Lastly, a new keeper was in order, and for that, I found a rather good fifth year by the name of Grant Page. I almost mistook him for a Weasley, with his bright auburn hair and copious freckles dusting his pink cheeks.

As per my usual habit, I got up with the sun on the day of our quidditch game. The library was my sanctuary, despite me not being especially studious. It was the one place where I could wind down with no one wildly screaming or coughing up mucus from another Weasley prank.

I sat down at the table closest to the window and stared absentmindedly at the grey clouds pooling over the horizon. I didn't expect it to be rainy, however, but a strong wind was something I prepared myself for. A thick fog rolled over the castle grounds, giving an almost ethereal feeling to the morning air. Frost lightly peppered the ground, almost looking like a thin layer of snow. I pressed my cheek against the cold glass panel of the window, feeling it's stark contrast in temperature against my skin.

I heard the library door creak open, but didn't take my gaze from the outside. I already knew who it was, and I smiled to myself as his soft footsteps got closer.

"Are you ready to suffer your first loss of the season?" I heard the annoying smirk translated through the familiar Scottish voice.

"Not going to happen Wood," I said, ripping my eyes from the window, and turning to face him. "Hufflepuff might be even less competent than Gryffindor when it comes to quidditch."

Oliver chuckled, plopping down in the seat next to mine, a cup of coffee in his hand. As it was a Saturday he wasn't wearing the usual uniform, and because today there wasn't any practice he wasn't wearing his quidditch gear either. Instead, he wore a red knit quidditch sweater, with a black turtleneck layered underneath. A pair of old denim jeans hung loosely on his thin legs, and a pair of tattered vans sat snugly on his feet.

"Well, Hufflepuff has a new captain." Oliver grinned, taking a swig from his mug.

"I'm well aware of pretty boy Diggory." I snorted. "Honestly the only quidditch player to hire as captain worse than him is you."

"Whatever makes you sleep at night." Oliver huffed.

"Hey Wood, could I have some of your coffee?" I asked, already reaching for his cup.

"Ah, ah Stone," Oliver tutted, pulling his mug back, "Not after being mean to me, no."

"I'm sorry for hurting your wittle feewings." I pouted. "Now give me your coffee."

"Magic word?" Oliver cocked his head to the side in a teasing manner.

"Avada kedavra." I scowled, slumping back in my seat.

"Is that the best I'm going to get?" Oliver continued to grin.

I nodded.

"Alright, here."He slid the mug with warm coffee towards me.

I quickly grabbed hold of it, as though in fear of him changing his mind. The ceramic felt warm against my cold hands. I took a large gulp, feeling the satisfying bitterness hit my tastebuds.

I felt Oliver's eyes fixed on me, a small goofy smile playing on his lips. For a moment I looked back and smiled as well, simply staring into his hazel eyes, a warm feeling surging in my stomach again. I took another sip of coffee, my eyes still fixed on Oliver's.

"Could I finish this," I asked, cheekily grinning.

"Hm, I don't know Stone," Oliver said, not breaking eye contact.

"What if I ask nicely?" I took another small sip, and Oliver comically scrunched his face in thought.

"Is that even possible?" He frowned through his smile.

"Please?" I frowned back, trying my hardest at puppy dog eyes.

Oliver hesitated for a moment, "Oh alright, just this once, and only because you have a game today."

"Thank you, Woody." I cooed, my smile so wide, that I could feel a pleasant pain in my cheeks.

As I suspected the wind was furiously whipping at my clothes as I stepped onto the field. I could see ahead of us was the Hufflepuff team, headed by a tall handsome boy in his fifth year. Cedric Diggory. I have observed him on the field on numerous occasions, and he was a superb seeker no doubt. Cho was good of course, but I couldn't help but worry about her ability to bear Cedric. Had it been Anna I wouldn't have worried a single bit, as she was one of the best seekers I have seen in a while, but alas she graduated and thus was no longer on the team.

"And out come the two teams, and my oh my the crowd today is insane!" Lee's commentary rang out across the loud cheers of the crowd. "Not to mention the star quidditch player that came all this way to watch the match!"

What? I looked up at the stands, despite knowing they were too high up for me to make out anyone's face.

"That's right, the Vincent Ford of Puddlemere United has come to cheer Ravenclaw on!" Lee cheered, and my heart skipped a beat.

Could it be possible he came all the way to Hogwarts to see me play? I felt myself blush at the thought alone.

Madam Hooch stood imposingly in the middle of the field as per usual; her whistle tightly clenched between her thin lips.

"Ready, on your marks!" She bellowed as we positioned ourselves in preparation for liftoff."Begin!"

Fourteen brooms flew into the air. It was much chillier than I initially anticipated, but this fact was quickly overturned due to the blood rushing in my body. I could feel the adrenaline coursing in my veins, as I saw the quaffle fly upwards.

"AND THEY'RE OFF!" Lee roared, excitement seeping from his loud cry.

I instantaneously felt myself charge at it as by default, and caught the young Hufflepuff chaser off guard, because the girl closest to the quaffle hardly moved, and looked rather startled. The leather ball hit my stomach with a loud mpfh noise as I caught it with my left arm. I clutched onto it for dear life as I raced for the Hufflepuff goalposts, and I could hear the swooshing noises of the enemy chasers behind me.

"AND STONE WITH THE QUAFFLE, A QUICK STEAL AS USUAL! LOOK AT HER GO!"

A bludger furiously zoomed right in front of my face, missing my nose by merely a few feet as I propelled myself forward as fast as my Nimbus Two Thousand let me. With the corner of my eye, I saw it trail Cho Chang, who seemed to have a lead on the snitch, with Diggory hot on her trail.

"THE SEEKERS SEEMED TO HAVE SPOT THE SNITCH EARLY ON, AND ARE SPEEDING AFTER IT THIS VERY SECOND! IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THEM TO END THE MATCH THIS EARLY?"

I was now fast approaching the Hufflepuff keeper, who looked much more imposing on her broom than she did on land. I raced up in the direction of the middle hoop in hopes of throwing her off, and my plan worked perfectly. The keeper flew up, and before she could realize my next move I threw a curveball, scoring in the left hoop.

"AND STONE SCORES, RAVENCLAW ARE NOW IN THE LEAD TEN TO ZERO!"

The crowd roared from the stands, and I could see the waving of banners intensify tenfold as I caught the quaffle after it flew through the hoop, the keeper hurling past me with too much momentum to stop herself.

My eyes darted back to the seekers as I flew back with the quaffle to get in a ready position. They were no longer chasing something, and again were aimlessly circling above the main game.

The quaffle was back in Madam Hooch's arms, as Davies and Burrow assumed formation along my side.

"READY?!" Madam Hooch yelled, and I gripped my broom tighter.

The wind was furiously lashing at us now, and I felt myself fight against it to remain still.

Hooches shrill whistle rang out once again, and the quaffle soared upwards. This time Roger Davies dove for it, and caught it right in front of a Hufflepuff chaser, their brooms almost clashing together.

"Burrow get open!" I roared at the top of my lungs in the direction of the Ravenclaw chaser nearest to me as I sped towards the hoops.

"AND BURROW SEIZES THE QUAFFLE IMMEDIATELY, NOW IM SUPPOSED TO REMAIN IMPARTIAL, BUT THIS GAME ISNT LOOKING GOOD FOR HUFFLEPUFF!"

I struggled against the wind, noticing a blue blur which I assumed was Cho whizzing maniacally after something, Cedric's yellow blur chasing after her, at least a good 20 feet between them.

I looked back ahead and sped parallel to Randolph. Roger was on the other side of him, perfectly open for a pass. Behind me was a Hufflepuff chaser, who I could make out to be Heidi Mcavoy. She was hot on my trail, and passing to me would be foolish and could risk us the possession of the quaffle.

"WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT, CHANG AND DIGGORY HAVE SPOTTED THE SNITCH AGAIN!"

Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw a rogue bludger whizzing towards me. With barely any time to think I plunged downwards, avoiding the bludger by mere inches. Heidi wasn't so lucky, as the bludger crashed into her stomach, the contact-making a loud thud, followed by a pained oof from Heidi, sending her flying off her broom at least twenty feet off the ground.

"OH, WHAT A NASTY HIT! "

Letting her plummet was always an option of course, and the game could've continued in our favour, but of course, I wasn't the kind of person to let her get seriously injured. I quickly reversed my broom and targeted the spot Heidi would be flying through within the next three seconds. This was my one chance to catch her, and I was dead set on making sure I didn't fail. I gripped the broom handle tighter, and for a brief moment, it felt like time slowed. I let go with my left arm and braced for impact.

I shut my eyes only for a split second, my breath hitching in the back of my throat.

WHAM

I felt Heidi's unconscious body fall straight into my lap as I opened my eyes.

"AND STONE CATCHES HEIDI IN MIDAIR!!! "

The crowd cheered louder than I thought possible as I landed on the pitch, Heidi drooped in my arms.

"AND CHO CHANG CATCHES THE SNITCH!" I heard Lee practically scream into his microphone.

I looked back up, and sure enough, Cho was holding the snitch high above her head. Despite her being at least one hundred feet away, I could still make out a large grin on her face.

My team landed shortly after me, and Hagrid helped carry Heidi to the hospital wing, followed by the Hufflepuff team. We on the other hand were met with a stampede of students and staff cheering for us. Among them, however, I saw a clump of squealing girls swarming one person in particular. His eyes lit up upon seeing me, and he quickly pushed past his fans.

"Hi Vincent," I said, feeling a small blush creep its way onto my cheeks.

"Merlin's beard Y/n, didn't know you could really play! " He exclaimed jogging over.

Of course, he was brilliantly dressed, looking classy sporting a blue overcoat and an elegant beige blazer. His checkered pants were held up high on his thin waist by an elegant leather belt. Dark and shaggy curls loosely framed his chiselled face, and his freckles were more prominent against his olive skin than I remembered.

"And what's that supposed to mean." I chuckled, crossing my arms defiantly as he stopped in front of me.

"Nothing bad." Vincent smiled, showcasing his row of pearly teeth. "I just thought... oh never mind."

"Never mind what?" I cocked my eyebrow, feeling nonplussed at how casually he was just standing in front of me.

The crowd of girls following him were now circled around us, and some guys who were evidently fans as well.

"So you wrote to me about a Hogsmeade trip happening next weekend," Vincent nervously ran a finger through his silky hair.

"Yeah, I recall something like that." I snickered, feeling a wide grin spread on my face.

"Well, I was wondering if you would like to meet up there." He said, letting out a small nervous cough.

This was met with loud "oohs," from the crowd of spectators around us.

"As in a date?" I asked, my jaw nearly unhinging.

"Would you say yes if I said yes?" Vincent smiled sheepishly, his brown eyes sparkling with anticipation.

"Well," I stammered for a moment, "Yes."
