forever i'm here for you, you're here for me | happy birthday cho!

Did I make this banner in April?
Maybe!
Do I regret it?
Nope!
Title from the lyrics of Two Voices One Song from Barbie and the Diamond Castle. (Don't judge me)

A loud blood-curdling scream ripped through the quiet afternoon. It wasn't surprising. The clubhouse was rarely this silent. Usually it was filled with laughs, bickers, and yells.
Ash followed the sound, heart pounding as she imagined the dangers her friends could've gotten in. Her thoughts were full of cuts, burns and bruises. One of them even pictured Cho stuck in the fridge but she quickly dismissed that thought. It couldn't have happened again, right?
She skidded to a stop in the doorway, almost tripping into the drama as she dramatically entered. "What is it? What's wrong?"
Items were strewn everywhere! There were socks, cutlery, beanies, and even food! In the centre of all the chaos was Lucky. The dark-haired girl sniffed, her eyes and nose red and she lay looking hopeless in the middle of the mess.
Ash picked through everything and tried hard not to step on anyone's things. If she ended up breaking something she could start The Cozy War IV. Though it mostly resulted in everyone throwing pillows across the room she didn't want to take any risks. Lucky was allergic to feathers and no one wanted to hear her snuffling at night.
"Is everything okay?" Lucky squinted as the light was blocked by Ash's head looming over her. The girl's brown locks hung like a curtain as Ash peered down at her friend.
"It's over!" Lucky wailed, throwing an arm over her face.
"What is?" Ash said in confusion.
Before Lucky could answer a loud voice interrupted their conversation.
"Is she dead?" They both looked over at Mango who was staring over the counter with wide eyes.
"No, I'm not dead." Lucky made a face before flopping back down with a thud.
"Well, you don't look alive." Dee teased from beside Mango.
Lucky raised a fist from the floor. "No teasing me! Something terrible has happened and I'm distraught!"
Ash grumbled under her breath as she forced Lucky to sit upright. The dark-haired girl sighed as repositioned and crossed her legs.
"It's almost Cho's birthday," Lucky said despairingly.
"Isn't that a good thing?" Ash asked quizzically, exchanging looks with the other girls there.
"I don't blame Lucky for being upset. Her birthday was chaos." Mango shrugged.
"No, it's not that!" Lucky stood and surveyed the mess. "I was hoping to make Cho a birthday cake."
"Ah. So the problem is your cooking got it." Dee nodded along.
Lucky gave her a look. "It's not my cooking."
"Is it the oven?" Ash prompted her.
"It's not the oven either." Lucky let out a long-suffering sigh as she picked up a round container from the ground and tipped it upside down. Only a few bits of brown powder fell out.
Lucky watched it fall sadly. "We're out of cocoa powder. So we can't make her a chocolate cake."
They all collectively gasped. "No!"
"Which means we'll have to make her..." Lucky dropped her voice as if the next word was something dark and terrible. "Plain vanilla."
Another gasp. "No!"
Lucky nodded sagely.
"Can't we buy some more?" Dee suggested. "It won't cost too much."
"Jade took the car out with Ruby and I expect they won't be back for a while." Mango reminded them.
"We have a car?" Ash said in surprise.
"You know those little plastic jeeps kids play in?" Mango talked as she began to sort through the items on the floor.
Ash nodded.
"It's one of those."
Dee's brow furrowed. "You can drive those on the roads?"
"Nope. That's why they won't be back for a while."
Lucky scowled. "If they get another ticket for driving on the highway in that thing-"
"We could try the bus." Ash cut in, snapping her fingers.
The other wrinkled their noses. Ash raised an eyebrow. "Just the other day you guys were digging around for worms! How is this any grosser?"
"Uh, because the worms are friendly neighbours who reside in a cushion of soil and dirt." Lucky retorted. "The bus is full of strangers! Strangers Ash!"
"Just bring your baseball bat," Mango told her.
"No!" Ash and Dee both exclaimed.
Lucky stuck her tongue out at them. "So how are we going to make Cho's cake then?"
"Uh... we could melt the chocolate bunny from Easter?" Mango suggested, looking pointedly at the golden wrapped goody.
"Are you crazy? Cho kill us!" Dee grabbed it and held the rabbit protectively to her chest.
"Cho wouldn't know!" Ash agreed with Mango eagerly. "It would be fun!"
Lucky waved her hands before anyone could decapitate Cho's chocolate rabbit. "No, no, no! That's not gonna work! We need cocoa powder!"
Dee sent Mango a glare as she carefully placed the chocolate rabbit back on its sacred spot. The kitten coaster.
Lucky let out a reluctant breath. "I will go on the bus and get the cocoa powder... without my baseball bat."
"Are you sure? I can go instead." Dee volunteered. They all shook their heads adamantly.
"We don't trust you with shopping anymore," Mango told her.
Dee sputtered. "The baboons were an accident!"
"We can't afford accidents," Ash said seriously. "This is chocolate we're talking about."
"Well, she can't go alone." Dee pointed out.
"Why not? I'm the boss! I'm responsible!" Lucky protested. Dee made a so-so gesture that made Lucky gasp.
"It's safer with two." Ash agreed before they could argue. "But who can go with her? Everyone else is buying presents and other things. I'm still getting Cho's birthday beanie ready!"
Dee groaned. "Why do we need the beanie? It must have lice in it by now!"
"It does not!"
"Well, if Dee can't go and you can't go, then who's left?" Lucky wondered aloud. They all turned to look at Mango.
Mango pointed at herself. "Wait- me?"
"Yeah- her?" Dee grunted as Lucky elbowed her.
"Mango and I will go." Lucky decided. "It won't take long and we're only getting cocoa powder."
Ash sighed. "That's what they all say."
They made their way to the door, Ash trailing behind them saying rushed directions like: "Don't get distracted," "Buy the good cocoa powder," and "Make sure Mango doesn't get stuck in the display case again."
Lucky nodded along, grabbing some money, her phone, and one other thing as she made her way out the door. There was a loud bang as the Beanie Boss accidentally walked into the door frame.
"Ow," Lucky said dumbly. Mango snorted and steered the girl onto the front steps.
Dee and Ash watched them run towards the bus station silently. Pudding came loping over, her tail wagged excitedly as she planted her front paws on the windowsill to observe her owners tripping their way to the bus stop.
"They'll be fine." Dee tried to assure a nervous-looking Ash.
Ash nodded distractedly, her eyes narrowing as she watched them get aboard the vehicle.
"Wait- did Lucky bring an umbrella to use as a weapon?"
The two stared dumbfounded as Lucky gripped the handle of the object, her eyes watching the other passengers onboard carefully. Suddenly they were moving, Pudding yapping excitedly at their heels as they charged after the moving bus.
"WAIT!"
"LUCKY! LUCKY? DROP THE UMBRELLA!"
"DID SHE JUST STICK HER TONGUE OUT AT ME?"

Happy birthday, chocoqueen29! I hope you enjoyed your birthday one-shot. It's nothing much but I enjoyed writing it for you!
You may have noticed I was a little more chaotic than you have seen in other things of me. 😂 Hey! It's fun being the crazy one every once in and while.
But I'm still able to be responsible!
Eat your vegetables! Stay in school! Only sneak that extra piece of candy when your parents aren't looking!
Also, anyone know the She Ra reference?
The Beanie Boss 🐞
