Moon Shard #10

One time, Toya saw Senku experimenting with explosives. She walked up and said, "Have you ever tried throwing this into a volcano? I think it would make a beautiful explosion."
Senku stared at her, stunned for a few seconds: "Toya, do you even know what safety is?"
Toya: "No, I only know what's fun."
.☾
Once, Gen asked Toya about her life philosophy. Toya sat in thought for a moment before answering: "I think life is about finding something stupid you want to do, then doing it smartly."
Gen: "That sounds reasonable. Do you have an example?"
Toya: "For example, tricking Senku into thinking I'm good at chemistry."
.☾
Tsukasa noticed Toya often getting hurt while working and asked seriously: "Why don't you be more careful?"
Toya shrugged: "I think pain is kind of interesting. It reminds me I'm still alive."
Tsukasa: "..."
.☾
Once, Toya pretended she could hear voices from the broken shard Tsukasa used to clip his hair. She told Chrome: "You know, last night I heard Tsukasa say I should take better care of Mirai."
Chrome: "Really?!"
Toya: "No, I made that up."
.☾
One time, Toya watched the group planting trees and said seriously: "Don't you think trees are the best listeners? They never argue back, they just stand there absorbing CO2."
Gen: "That actually makes sense. But why are you saying this?"
Toya: "Because I just confessed to that tree about accidentally setting Chrome's tent on fire."
Chrome (from afar): "TOYA!!!"
.☾
Toya once taught Mirai a game called "stone throwing fortune-telling": "You throw a rock into the river. If it sinks quickly, tomorrow will be sunny. If it sinks slowly, it'll rain tomorrow."
Mirai: "But... they all sink."
Toya: "Exactly. That's what makes it fun."
.☾
Toya handed Chrome a stick once and said it was a "gold-finding tool."
Chrome: "Does it work?"
Toya: "It does, but only if you believe in it."
Chrome: "I think you're lying to me."
Toya: "Yeah, I am. But you still tried it, didn't you?"
.☾
Toya once told Gen: "Do you believe if you sincerely wish under a meteor shower, your wish will come true?"
Gen: "I don't think so."
Toya: "Neither do I, but I want to try anyway, just in case."
.☾
One day, Toya sat by the river, watching the water flow, and said: "Life is like this river. It just keeps flowing, never stopping."
Senku: "Are you being philosophical?"
Toya: "No, I'm just wondering if I should jump in for a swim."
.☾
One time, Toya whispered to Mirai: "I have a secret to tell you."
Mirai: "What is it?"
Toya: "I think I'm an owl trapped in a human body."
Mirai: "..."
.☾
Toya stood in a field, arms outstretched, and said: "Can you hear it, Tsukasa? The wind is singing."
Tsukasa: "The wind can't sing."
Toya: "It's not the wind, it's me. I'm whistling."
(Toya is great at whistling, but her parents forbid it because they said it's not ladylike).
.☾
Toya invited Kohaku to walk in the forest at night, telling ghost stories along the way: "Did you know? They say there's a ghost in these woods that only appears when—"
Kohaku: "Don't try to scare me; I'm not afraid."
Toya: "I know, but if you get scared, just hold onto me. I don't mind these things."
.☾
Mirai once asked Toya: "Do you think Tsukasa will always protect me?"
Toya: "If he doesn't, I will. But don't worry, I'll protect both of you."
Mirai smiled: "Then who will protect you?"
Toya: "I'll protect myself. I'm not easy to mess with."
.☾
Toya tried learning how to set traps from Ukyo, but ended up placing one right in Tsukasa's path.
Tsukasa: "Were you trying to trap me?"
Toya: "No, I just wanted to see if you're good at dodging traps."
Tsukasa: "You should focus on catching rabbits instead of me."
Toya: "Rabbits aren't as interesting as you."
.☾
One day, Toya said to Gen: "I feel like someone's watching me."
Gen: "Who do you suspect?"
Toya: "Myself. I think I'm watching myself."
Gen: "..."
.☾
Toya watched Senku working on something and asked: "Do you think science can solve everything?"
Senku: "Not everything, but a lot of things."
Toya: "Can science make me stop thinking about things I shouldn't?"
Senku: "You need psychology, not science."
.☾
Toya sat by the fire, looking at everyone, and said: "Life is like a song, and each person is a note."
Nikki: "What note are you?"
Toya: "I'm the wrong note, but I make the song more riveting."
.☾
Toya tried wrapping vines around herself like armor and asked Kohaku: "How do I look? Do I look like a warrior?"
Kohaku: "More than I expected."
Toya: "Then I'm ready to fight."
Kohaku: "Who are you fighting?"
Toya: "I haven't decided yet, but definitely not you."
.☾
One night, Toya looked up at the sky and said to Tsukasa: "Do you ever think we're part of something bigger?"
Tsukasa: "What do you mean?"
Toya: "I don't know, but if we are, I want to be the best part."
.☾
Toya teased Tsukasa by hiding his sword. When he asked about it, she just smiled and said: "You need to learn how to live without it."
Tsukasa: "You seem to enjoy testing my patience."
Toya: "That's right, because I know you'll never get mad."
.☾
Toya held up a small mirror shard, reflecting sunlight into Chrome's face: "Look, I can control light."
Chrome: "You're not controlling light; you're just annoying me."
Toya: "Sometimes being annoying is an art."
.☾
Toya stood on top of a hill, arms outstretched, shouting: "I am the wind! No one can stop me!"
When Tsukasa walked up, she turned and said: "Except you. You can stop me."

The entire forest was immersed in the usual silence of the afternoon, broken only by the rustling leaves and the occasional chirping of distant birds. Gen sat on a flat rock, twirling a twig idly in his hand, while Toya sat nearby, a notebook on her lap and a dreamy look in her eyes, as though she were lost in another dimension.
"Toya-chan, what are you doing?" Gen asked, his voice drawn out with lazy curiosity.
Without looking up, Toya tapped her pencil lightly against the edge of the notebook and replied flatly:
"Writing poetry."
The simple answer made Gen sit up straight.
"Poetry? My, my, I didn't know you had such artistic inclinations," he said with a sly grin, his eyes gleaming mischievously.
Toya shot him a sidelong glance, a faint smirk tugging at her lips as if she'd seen through his playful tone.
"Who said poetry needs to be artistic, Gen-san? It just needs to be fun."
The remark made Gen chuckle.
"In that case, let me hear one of your masterpieces. I'll be your harshest critic!"
Toya hesitated briefly, but her eyes lit up with a hint of challenge. She tore a small page from her notebook, folded it into a little paper boat, and then began reading aloud:
Toya's bizarre poem:
Leaves fall in the emerald wood,
A parrot chews a twig as it should.
Senku yells, "Science is king!"
But Gen just wants coke, that's his thing.
Gen sat upright, his eyes wide. He remained silent for a moment, as though expecting an unexpected twist in the poem. But when it was clear the poem had ended, he burst into laughter, the sound echoing through the forest.
"Brilliant!" Gen clapped enthusiastically. "An absolute masterpiece of absurdity!"
"Thanks for the criticism," Toya replied dryly, though there was a triumphant sparkle in her eyes.
"I wasn't criticizing, I swear!" Gen wiped away tears of laughter. "Your poetry is truly... unique. It could be a weapon of mass confusion."
Toya raised an eyebrow, tilting her head as though considering the idea.
"A weapon of mass confusion?"
"Exactly!" Gen propped his chin on his hand, his face taking on a mock-mysterious expression. "If you recite this poem to an enemy, they'll laugh so hard they'll drop their guard, and we'll win the fight easily."
Toya shook her head with a chuckle but couldn't help thinking that Gen might have a point.
.☾
That afternoon, Toya's poetry became a major topic of discussion.
By chance, Kohaku and Suika wandered into the forest. When they heard Gen recount Toya's poem, they immediately begged her to write another. Toya pretended to decline but eventually gave in.
"Just one more," Toya said, her tone tinged with feigned reluctance.
This time, the four of them sat in a circle, waiting eagerly. Toya tapped her chin thoughtfully, scribbled a few lines in her notebook, and then began to read:
The second poem:
A chicken runs beneath a tree,
Searching for snacks quite desperately.
Suika watches with curious glee,
"How does that chicken count so quickly?"
Suika giggled, while Kohaku raised an eyebrow. "What does that even mean?"
Toya shrugged. "It doesn't mean anything. That's the fun of it."
Kohaku sighed in exasperation, but Gen nodded with delight. "This is a perfect example of absurdist art!"
"Absurdist art?" Kohaku echoed, her voice tinged with skepticism.
Gen laughed, his eyes gleaming as if he'd discovered a treasure trove.
"Art doesn't need meaning; it just needs to make people feel something. And Toya's poetry makes me feel... amused."
.☾
Word of Toya's poetry spread quickly throughout the Kingdom of Science. That evening, during dinner around the communal table, Toya found herself pressured into sharing more. She initially refused but eventually relented under the group's enthusiastic encouragement. Rising to her feet, she held her notebook and read in an even voice:
The final poem of the day:
The sky is starry, a canvas so bright,
Senku keeps baking bread all night.
Ukyo laughs with a gleaming eye,
While Hyoga just wants to fight or die.
The group erupted into laughter, except for Hyoga, whose face remained stoic, though the corner of his mouth twitched upward.
"Not bad," Hyoga remarked, his tone laced with subtle sarcasm.
From another table, Senku sipped his tea nonchalantly and said, "If you spent half the time you spend writing poetry learning chemistry, you'd be far more useful to humanity, Toya."
Toya only stuck out her tongue. "Learning chemistry isn't as fun as writing poetry."
Ukyo chuckled, his gaze soft with understanding. "But thanks to those poems, Toya has kept the entire village entertained. That's a value in itself."
Gen threw an arm around Toya's shoulders and declared with mock seriousness, "Toya's poetry will save the world. I guarantee it!"
