37. chrysoberyl
"I can't help but notice that it's almost time for us to leave and you haven't taken me to the castle town," I glanced over at Levi who was hunched over his desk. "Fix your posture you're going to totally fuck up my back."
TAKE BETTER CARE OF ME
"Was that a promise?"
...
"YOU-"
YOU PROMISED
"Calm down," he looked up at me, "I'll take you- don't be so loud about it."
YIPPEE MOMENT
"That's a promise."
"The more you talk about it the harder it's going to be to sneak out-" he chuckled, shaking his head at me.
"We should go right now-" I stood up, pacing over to his desk, "let's not waste our time in this room anymore- every second we sit here is a second less for exploring."
we're leaving soon anyway-
"I have shit to do-"
"I had shit to do when you dragged me into the library-"
"You were sleeping," he shrugged.
"You are so unbelievably unhealthy- I can't believe you haven't dropped dead yet."
we seriously need to fix that
i cannot have a rivalry with someone who isn't even operating at full capacity
it's embarrassing
"You nag too much."
"I'm just picky about the people I loathe- you should feel honored."
it's a matter of ethics
"Can we at least wait until night? You'd be fucking stupid to sneak out in broad daylight."
"Oh? I thought you were good at it- shame."
"That won't work on me Y/N," he sighed loudly, "part of being good at it is knowing when the fuck to do it."
SHAME
"You're so boring-"
besides
"What's the point in sneaking out if I only get to see the town in the middle of the night?" I grumbled, "I want to see it when it's alive."
not that running around different taverns wouldn't be fun
just-
there must be more to it right?
"It's a beautiful place," Levi mused, "you'll have to see it another time, I am not sneaking out in broad daylight."
OH PLEASE
"What's the worst that could happen?"
"My mother traps us here."
"She wouldn't-" I shook my head at him, "she likes me too much- and she's a nice person."
"You don't know her."
"I know that she wants me as a daughter in law."
"Never happening."
"Oh of course, but I'll take advantage of it."
a pause
"Come on, please?" I begged, "I'll-" I hesitated.
"You'll?"
"I'll let you look around my father's office for 30 seconds unsupervised."
maybe i shouldn't have said that-
"Promise?" Levi looked up at mine, his eyes glittering with excitement.
SCARY
"Promise."
"Alright, let's go- get your stuff now."
"REALLY?"
"30 seconds unsupervised- you promised."
"Of course."
what's the absolute worst that could happen?
"Be quiet and follow close behind," Levi muttered, having just finished the last of the paperwork.
no worries
"I won't cause trouble-" I grinned, scanning the office one final time, my eyes landing on the necklace we had messed with the other day.
i'll be taking that
"I doubt that," he sighed loudly, "listen it's a secret passage that runs by my mother's office and her bedroom as well as a few of the sitting areas." A pause, "and the walls are thin- any noise and we'll be caught."
oh really?
"How do you know?" I frowned, "have you been caught before?"
"Shut the fuck up."
SOMEONE IS DEFENSIVE
"Since you asked so kindly," I rolled my eyes at him. "Don't worry too much about it, I'll be quiet- unlike the other night I'm actually interested in sneaking out."
you won't even know i'm there
"I can't believe I'm doing this," he grumbled for the nth time. "Are you ready?"
"Always have been."
"Alright then," Levi walked over to one of the many bookcases that lined the wall.
i can't believe i didn't run around pulling out random books earlier
I COULD'VE EXPLORED A SECRET PASSAGE BY MYSELF
MISSED OPPORTUNITY
"Which one is it?" I peered over Levi's shoulder, watching as he pulled a book out to reveal a small panel in the wall.
you would expect them to hide it better-
"None of your business."
whatever
"I'm never coming back here anyway, don't worry about it," I shrugged, stepping back as the shelf swung toward us, revealing a small dark passageway.
oooo
"Quiet- alright?"
"Of course, I'm not a kid, I can stay quiet for a few minutes," I rolled my eyes, following behind him.
what are we going to use for light?
notice that this question is happening in my head
instead of verbally
BECAUSE I CAN LISTEN
i just choose not to when it doesn't benefit me
As the two of us stepped into the hall faint light began to illuminate the path.
oooo
it makes me wonder-
installing all of these magical lights had to have taken a lot of time
just when was the building built?
there was only a small window where magical items were being openly created
to have built all of that in such a short window of time-
it's impressive
Levi stopped suddenly in his tracks, causing me to bump into him.
OW
also said in my head
in case anyone was keeping track
From the other side of the wall I could make out muffled voices in deep conversation.
"--finish the--- that would be ideal--"
his mom?
Levi took a step forward, one of the floorboards creaking slightly.
fuck
at least it wasn't me-
NOT THE TIME
"One moment," the voice called out, now unmistakably Kuchel, "I think I heard something."
