19. Jace- Birds Flyin' High
(Requested)
Soulmate AU!
Your soulmate writes/draws/marks themselves, you mirror that image.
And when you find your soulmate, two golden arrows pop over your head, pointing at the direction your soulmate is in.

It all started when the bluebird tattoo showed up on my chest. I was confused, mainly because I didn't know what it was. I was still in middle school, oblivious to how I got it and what it meant. I showed it to my friends and they got all excited.
"Dude! That's like, a soulmate mark! It means that they got a tattoo done!" one of them exclaimed, pointing to the bird. I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Well what if they got it because they're part of a gang?" I replied solemnly. "I don't want my soulmate to be a gangster. Gangsters are mean." The group stared at me in surprise.
"Do you even know what a bluebird means here? It brings good luck to someone, and it's a protector. Your soulmate must have had a good reason for getting one. To protect someone else... or you." My heart sped up.
"You think so?"

"Eun-Tae," Jace sighed, propping up his chin with a hand, looking at his other arm. Vasco looked at his friend questioningly, the straw from the chocolate milk still in his mouth.
"Do you think I'll find me soulmate soon? They seem to be in the similar district as us, since there are math notes that they scribbled down, similar to our lessons." The big eared male scratched the back of his neck and unzipped part of his grey jumpsuit, showing the part of his chest where the bluebird was.
"They also put a heart around the bluebird in pen." Vasco perked up and leaned closer.
"Your soulmate must like your tattoo, then." Jace's face was tinted pink as his dark brown eyes sparkled in excitement.
"I hope so."

A few years later, and I transferred to Jae Won High as a sophomore. I nervously clutched the straps of my backpack as I quickly strode to the front gates, bowing at the security guard on my way in. People were looking at me, but looked away as I caught them glancing.
"Ah, I'm so nervous..." I thought, my (Eye Color) eyes squeezing shut as I thought about what my department would be like. "I hope they're nice."
__
"Leon Lee, right?" I asked, smiling. "It's nice to meet you." She shook my hand and gave a small grin.
"Likewise." I hesitated to ask the dreaded question.
"Have you... found your soulmate yet? I mean, it's too early for me to decide, and I have this bluebird tattoo-"
"Wait, you have one too?" I jumped up and blushed, not knowing what to say.
"I-I do... where's yours?" She lifted up her pant leg and pointed to her ankle. My heartbeat dialed down, filled with disappointment.
"Ah, mine's on my- my chest," I murmured, pointing to the left side of my heart. She sighed and pulled down the fabric.
"We'll both find our significant others eventually."

I sat alone at lunch, quietly resting in a tree, enjoying the birds chirping as they fed their young, and the faint clamoring of students during the break. I almost fell out of the pink-leafed tree as someone called my name.
"(Y/N). You coming?" I looked down, steadying myself as Leon held her lunch, pointing towards the mess hall.
"Ah, yeah, yeah, of course." I slipped down and sighed, rubbing the nape of my neck.
__
"Oh, look, it's the freshman," Woong pointed out, looking at the rude newbie. "He's with the new kid. Do you think they're dating?"
"I don't think so, I mean, they're not soulmates." Jace finally looked up from his food and noticed a figure walking beside Leon.
"Oh, didn't they just move here?" he asked, pointing towards the duo. "They joined the architecture department just today, right?" Everyone was silent.
"I think so..." Woong replied uncertainly. "But if so, it must mean that one of us is their soulmate."

I started to doodle on my arm as the teacher droned on and on about some lesson we wouldn't have to remember.
I gasped silently as I felt writing coming on my arm from a different pen.
"Bored?" it read. I smiled widely and scribbled down an answer.
"Yep. Where are you right now? Bored too?"
"In the middle of some boring lecture. Teacher's talking about math and stuff."
"No way! Same here!"
"Oh crap, he's coming my way, hold on." I sighed and set down my pen as the teacher moved to the other side of the classroom to check answers. I wish my soulmate would just come to me, so I didn't have to scout them out.

Weeks passed as I grew closer to the people from Burn Knuckles. Vasco, Leon Lee, and Jace were the few people I mainly hung out with, since I felt a special connection with each of them.
The day of the sports festival approached, and I was giddy with excitement. The Architecture Department had already decided on what to wear for our "uniforms:" plain black tanktops with black headbands and grey jackets, which we already owned, due to being in the Burn Knuckles group.
I got changed and went out, smearing black baseball paint on either side of my cheeks. Leon met me on the way out and smiled, highfiving me as we headed to the main field.
"You might find your soulmate today, just look for matching tattoos," she whispered, nudging my arm. I smiled excitedly, eyes glimmering.
"I'm really hyped up for this as well." She chuckled and grabbed my arm.
"We're not going to see the rest of the crew until about noon, when our team events start, so let's grab some chips and drinks, then head over to watch the others." I nodded and let her lead the way over to the booth.
__
The Architecture Department's events had finally started, and we were pitted against Vocal, Practical Music, Fashion, and the Beauty Departments for a series of battles. I caught sight of Vasco, and shouted his name, grabbing his attention.
"(Y/N)! Over to this side! We're going to do the gourd toss!" he yelled, grabbing some beanbags and tossing them to me. I caught them and smiled, winking at Vasco.
"We're going to dominate this." The bell rung, as Vocal was trying harder and harder to break open the bell-like structure hanging above. I was about to throw when Woong stopped me, smiled smugly.
"Don't throw. Save your energy for now." I was confused, and lowered down my arm.
"Why?"
"We have Vasco on our team." I turned cautiously and saw that the leader of the Burn Knuckles coiled up, and with a lightning fast pitch, broke the gourd in one throw.
"Just like last year," Woong sighed, glancing at Vasco. I chuckled and socked his arm lightly.
"The team really admires him, right?"
"Even that is an understatement."

The events were coming to an end, and we were pairing up for the tug-of-war. I was about to ask Leon if she wanted to partner up with me, but I found out she was already with Vasco. Biting my lip in nervousness, I looked around if anyone had no partner.
As I was walking, I accidentally bumped into Jace.
"Oh my god, sorry, Jace, I wasn't looking," I apologized, smiling a bit. He laughed and patted my arm, reassuring me that it was okay. I was about to ask if he had a partner, when all of a sudden, the monkey-eared male got very quiet.
"Jace?" I questioned, noticing his blank, even shocked stare. "Everything okay?" I looked down at his arm and went quiet myself.
The same imprint was on my arm. The tattoo I've wondered about for such a long time, was also on Jace's arm.
We both looked up at the same time, at each other, slowly realizing the situation. A bell rang, two golden arrows forming above out heads and pointing at one another.
"We have two soulmates!" I jumped in surprise, the message coming from the speakers. The whole crowd cheered and whooped as we stood in the middle of the dirt and grass ridden field.
Time slowed as we both looked back at each other and smiled gently, lacing our fingers together.
"I found you."
