20. Daniel Park- I Knew This New You

(In Middle School)

"Daniel, how are you?" I asked, sitting down with him and crossing my legs. He sighed and rubbed his arm uncomfortably.

"Logan beat me again. He smashed a soccer ball in my face." I winced and got out a packet of ice, handing it to the shorter boy.

"Here, this might help with the swelling. I can fetch you some bandages for the bleeding." He smiled a bit and took it, pushing it lightly against his face. A few moments passed by, our breath making small clouds of fog in the cold Korean sky.

"Why do you put up with me?" he suddenly asked, setting down the ice pack. "I'm a nobody in a world of people who matter. I'm unpopular, fat, and just... disgusting." I just smiled and looked down, my cheeks tinted pink from the cold.

"Because we're the same. And people have to stick together, no? That's what makes us human. And sooner or later, you're going to be better. Overcome this stage, since there will probably be harder ones to come. That's my philosophy. Don't look down now, look up today, and tomorrow. Chin up, Daniel."

(Years Later)

"A new student will be joining our class today, they just moved in from Busan." Daniel wasn't particularly interested in knowing who it was, staring out the window, the sun hitting his light skin, the rays falling onto his desk in lines, making his complexion almost glow.

But the majority were inclined, watching the door, both excited and nervous to see the new student joining the Fashion Department. Once their white sneaker stepped into the classroom with the normal school outfit, jaws dropped.

"My name is (Y/N). Please take care of me," I said, bowing. I noticed a guy somewhat near the back, whipped his head up to look at me. I smiled a bit and gave a little wave, slightly weirded out by his reaction. It was surprising, considering I thought I looked pretty average, and I've never met this guy before.

First time for everything, I suppose.

The bell rang, signaling that lunch had started. I started to get up and out of my seat, the legs squeaking and rattling against the floor, when I heard someone walk towards me. I looked up and raised an eyebrow.

"Can I help you?" I asked politely, smiling gently. It was the guy who had a weird reaction. I could see that his face was tinted pink a bit, probably from the sun. I mean, his desk was literally the only place that the sun hit, so odd.

"Well... ah," he stuttered, trying to find words. I motioned for him to take his time. Once he finally calmed down, the guy started again.

"Ah, since you're new here, I was just wondering if you'd like to eat lunch with me and my friends. My name is Daniel, Daniel Park." I grinned and picked up my bag.

"That's very kind of you, Daniel. I'll accept your offer on taking me with you to lunch," I chuckled, giving a thumbs-up. His face split into a smile, seemingly relieved and happy at the same time.

__

I walked into the lunchroom, surprised by what was going on. Complete and utter chaos. Students were fighting, food wars, and... some were even playing the drums on their lunch trays.

"Is it... usually like this?" I questioned, looking nervously at Daniel. He nodded hesitantly, brown eyes growing a bit dimmer at the sight. I chuckled and nudged his arm.

"It's not like I'm disappointed or anything, you know? We're in high school. It's to be expected." Daniel chuckled and nodded in agreement before guiding me to his table, where a bunch of people sat at.

"Guys, this is (Y/N). They transferred here from Busan," he introduced, gesturing to me. I grinned and waved, awkwardly holding me bag in one hand.

"It's nice to meet you all, I hope I can change things for the better here." One by one, I got to know everyone, ranging from Mr. Anger Issues to Mr. Fluff and Puff.

"Duke, right? It's an honor, I've been watching your streams from the beginning, you know?" I said, chuckling. I could see him visibly wince and look down. I began to panic, my eyes rapidly blinking.

"No, no, no, I was a ghost watcher. I would've donated and said you were really good, and I honestly liked your style, but I'm... broke, haha." I awkwardly scratched the back of my head and looked at him for any reaction. Duke finally smiled and looked up.

"Thanks. It means a lot to have supporters." I breathed a sigh of relief and laughed, eyes crinkling with every expression. But I noticed that his smile didn't reach his eyes. I sighed and tried again.

"Also, congrats on getting into PTJ. I wish you the best in your career." His eyes finally smiled along with his mouth.

"Thank you."

"Daniel?" I asked, walking along side him. Turns out we live quite close to each other. "Your last name is Park, right?" The blackette beside me nodded, eyes shutting for a moment while doing the gesture. I noticed the grip around his backpack tightened, knuckles turning white.

"Do you happen to know another Daniel Park? We used to live near each other, he's shorter, a bit rounder, has the same hair as you, and has thick, round glasses." The taller male let silence resonate for a few minutes, the only sound being cars honking and people talking in the distance.

"I do, actually. He's my roommate. Funny, right?" My eyes lit up with excitement, shining with anticipation.

"What do you think of him?" Daniel mumbled. I raised an eyebrow.

"Sorry, I couldn't really hear, could you repeat that?" Daniel stopped walking and faced me.

"What do you think of him?" I was surprised. Does he not like little Daniel, or is he just really protective of him? I looked at his eyes, and saw sudden anger in them, and a bit of worry dancing in his brown orbs.

"Well... I don't hate him-"

"So you don't like him?" He sounded angry.

"No, no... I don't like his way of thinking, that's all. He thinks that just because he doesn't live up to society's expectations that he's worthless. He's not.

Because we're the same. And people have to stick together, no? That's what makes us human. And sooner or later, it's going to be better. Overcome, since there will probably be harder ones to come. That's my philosophy. Don't look down now, look up today, and tomorrow. And chin up."

__

Daniel didn't know what to expect when he heard that familiar voice ring in from the front of the classroom. He constantly was lost in thought about them, and how they were doing. He loved them, but lost touch when they moved to Busan.

But when they came back, he thought it was a stroke of luck, maybe even fate. They came to him. He could see them again. That got him thinking, were they the same as before?

Throughout the day, he kept a close eye on an old love. Watching them, trying to figure out whether or not they still stayed the same. At the end of the day, there were no major clues until (Y/N) mentioned Daniel's other body. He asked about it, trying to remain stern, when there was nervousness polluting his mind.

He could almost feel his heart trying to leap out of his chest when (Y/N) quoted themselves from years ago. But he was still so unsure. They confessed to this body, but what will they do when they see his other one?

__

"I'll wake up my roommate. But I'm kind of tired, so I'll hit the hay." I smiled and let him leave, looking around the small shack. It was homey and warm, surprisingly. I meandered around, looking at a few things before I heard footsteps.

"(Y/N)?" My face broke into a grin as I sprinted towards Daniel from middle school.

"Daniel! It's so good to see you! How are you doing?" I cried, almost sobbing with relief. "We lost touch, and I couldn't stand the thought of you being bullied again, and-" My heart began to race, cheeks flaring up at the thought of Daniel being with me again.

"I didn't expect you to be this happy to see me," he muttered, not hugging back. His voice was awfully quiet. I furrowed my eyebrows and pulled away, lifting up his glasses to see his eyes filled to the brim with tears.

"Oh Daniel," I sighed, wiping away the tears and kissing his forehead. "I'm sorry. If you want me to leave, I'll go. It was selfish of me to barge in anyways." He pulled on my sleeve, rooting me to the ground.

"No. Stay, please. I want to tell you something."

__

Daniel didn't know what to do or say when (Y/N) hugged him, relieved. He just stood there and tried not to cry. But after they kissed his head and told him that they would leave, he made up his mind.

He could trust them.

Daniel led (Y/N) to the bedroom where his other body was sleeping.

__

As Daniel pulled me, I was wondering where we would go. A light flickered to life, and I yelped and covered my eyes.

"Daniel! Your friend is sleeping," I whisper-yelled. "Is he naked?"

"No. He's not my friend." I uncovered one eye and looked at the smaller male curiously.

"Why are you rooming with him? I swear to god, if this kid is the one beating you up-"

"No. He's me." I was even more confused.

"What? Daniel, don't be ridiculous." Small Daniel gestured for me to sit down. Once I sat, he slapped the face of the other boy. I panicked, as soon as the bigger Daniel got up, I asked if he was okay, and should I get an ice pack for him.

"(Y/N), it's me. Daniel. Daniel Park. We went to middle school together. I have two bodies." I stuttered, not sure what to think. I looked over his shoulder to see the smaller Daniel passed out, happily snoring away.

"What-"

"I'll prove it again."

"Wait, no, no, no-" The bigger Daniel slapped the other Daniel's cheek as I winced. Smaller Daniel now was up as the bigger one passed out instantly.

"I-I don't believe this-"

"I'm doing it again, as many times as I have to, to make you believe me." I reacted, but he was too quick again. His hand slapped the skin as his other body woke up.

"Daniel-" He raised his hand, but I lunged forwards and stopped it, gripping his wrist tightly. My weight got pushed forwards, so I suddenly was on his chest. My heart started to race again. I could see the resemblances between the two boys.

"Now do you believe me?" he asked, smiling, rubbing his red cheek. I shifted my weight forwards and pecked his cheek.

"Yeah. Do you need an ice pack now?" He laughed and nodded. I sat up to go and get one, but before I could stand, he grabbed my arm.

"Did you really like the old me?" Daniel questioned, eyes looking up at me. I smiled nostalgically, slipping my hand into his.

"I adored you, Daniel Park." I leaned down and kissed his soft lips, closing my eyes and cupping his face in my hands.
