Chapter 1
Emily POV
Cuba, one of the places that could bring a smile to anyone's face. Even if you were having the worst day ever, Havana, Cuba could make you smile. I mean, they even created a song called Havana, that's got to mean something.
Dom and I are in Havana, Cuba right now, smiling for many reasons. We're on our Honeymoon, looking down at a beautiful car engine, in each other's arms.
"We swap in parts from Ford Plymouths and Cadillac. My grandfather bought it in 1957. When he died it passed to my father, then my brother, and now to me," The young boy said, looking at Dom and me as his father walked over with a proud smile.
"Look at this, this is an engine from a boat," Dom said, pointing to the engine. My eyes went wide while an amazed smile crept onto my face, "No way!"
The son, proud to get a Toretto smile, said, "Yeah! Whatever it takes to keep it running!" Dom pointed to the son, "This is a Cuban spirit. Your spirit, keep it up. Never ever lose that."
The son and father nodded with wide smiles as a lady came running up to Dom and I, "Dom, it's your cousin, he's in trouble, come quickly!"
Dom wrapped his arm around me as we walked over to where Fed was being yelled at by a man. "Please don't do this, understand my problem. You know I can't make a living without my car," Fed begged the man.
"Isn't my problem bro," The man said before spotting Dom walking over to him, letting me go. Fed moved to the side, standing by me as he watched the man grow a wide smile as he said, "Dominic Toretto, I heard about you. Welcome to my island."
"Why he hooking up my cousin's car?" Dom asked, pointing to his cousin's car that was about to be toed.
The man's smile fell as he seemed to get annoyed mixed with anger, "In the morning, I gave it to him, he can't pay, I take the car."
Fed took a step forward, "I just need a few more days," Fed begged. "Few more days isn't part of the deal," The man said to Dom's cousin. Dom sighed and looked at Fed, "Come on, you make a deal you gotta live up to it." The man nodded, "You make a deal, you gonna live up to it."
Dom and I both eyed the man, Dom was the first to speak up, "Gonna live up to it? So you are one of those types. You take everyone's ride and then ship it back to the states."
"You should show your people some respect," I said, crossing my arms, already hating this guy. The next five words that left his mouth made me hate him a bit more, "You watch your mouth, Bitch." My eyes went wide and a small laugh left my lips as I watched Dom turn and look at this man with a look that could drop him dead. "Now you got a problem," I said, keeping a smile on my face.
Taking a step towards the man, Dom said, "I'm gonna keep it about the cars. But ig you want a car? Get it the right way."
"How?" The man asked, making Dom look over at me with a knowing smile. "Race war," I said, making the man's eyes look over to me before they moved back to Dom. "I already own it, bro," the man said, making Dom shake his head before pointing out his car, "Not that car. Mine."
My eyes looked to Dom, studying his face to see if he was serious. Yup, he was.
Fed quickly but in, making Dom look at him, "Dom, his car is the fastest car in the Island. Do you know what he has under the hood?" Dom made no move or say in stepping down. Letting out a loud sigh, Fed looked over at me, "Emily, talk to him."
I put my hands up, shaking my head, letting him know that there was nothing I could do once Dom made his decision.
Dom, focusing his attention back on the man before him, said, "Do you know, it doesn't matter what's under a hood? The only thing that matters is who's behind the wheel."
"You think so?" The man asked? Dom nodded, "I know so."
The man smiled, "Then race his car. We ain't racing a quarter mile here. We race the Cuban mile." Dom smiled, "Done," with that one word, everyone around us cheered. Dom grabbed Fed's keys before pulling up the car to the side, stepping out, and pulling parts of the front of the car off.
Fed shook his head as he watched his cousin tare his car apart. "I appreciate what you're trying to do. My car is the slowest car on the Island."
"Was," Dom said, turning and looking at Fed, "Pull the seats, the doors, the battery; if it ain't the motor, take it off."
Fed sighed before doing what Dom said while I walked over to him with a gas tank. Fed spotted me walking over with a gas tank and his eyes went wide, "What is that? Laughing gas?"
"Nah, Fed. This is Cuban NOS," I said, making Fed shake his head, "You guys are crazy." Fed goes to take a swig of Coke but doesn't get the chance as Dom takes it from him, pulling the pick off and securing it in the wires near the engine. "What are you doing?" Fed asked? "Warm as turbo. Pull that back in line. Hold on!"
Dom looked at me, smiling as he said, "Old trick, in case of emergencies."
I glanced down at the engine, "You know that's way too much booze for that engine." "It's going to be fast," Dom says, walking over and putting his arms around my waste, "It's gonna be a bomb."
"Only needs to go a mile," Dom said before leaning down and kissing me. I kissed him back before pulling away, handing him the gas tank. I watched him load it up before he drove it up to the starter line. Grabbing a motorcycle, I locked in a helmet and handkerchief around my face before pulling up next to Dom's car. He looked over at me, giving me a smile before focusing back on the road before him.
A lady walked out, looking at the man, a motorcycle driver, Dom, then I. "Are you ready for this, family? This is Havana! Be fast! Be safe! But don't be last. Racers ready? Go!"
Dom and the man from before took off in their cars while me and another guy drove off in some motorcycles.
The point of the motorcycle driver was to go ahead of the cars and block off any oncoming cars that may interfere with the race. The point of the driver was to race.
A sharp curve came into view and both the guy on the motorcycle and I made that sharp turn while the drivers kept going straight. Making two more sharp turns and picking up speed, we were able to get ahead of the cars and block off two roads before watching the cars race ahead.
We race off again, blocking off another set of traffic before watching the cars zoom past.
The man next to me looked over at me, "Where are we going?" "I don't know, let's go," I yelled over the engine of the motorcycle before picking up speed and chasing after the cars. My eyes stayed on Dom's car as he swerved around other cars. The finish line was in sight, but, suddenly, Dom's engine catches on fire.
Dom's car picks up speed because of this and crosses the finish line first. My heart drops down as Dom's car doesn't stop and is headed for the side of the bridge.
Quickly, I stop the motorcycle and climb off watching as Dom jumps out of the car at the last minute before Fed's car plummets into the water below him. The crowd quickly ran over to Dom, cheering and patting him on the back as Dom smiled wide, meeting my eyes.
Moving past everyone, Dom walked over to me, the cheering crowd following. "I thought I told you to stop doing that," I said, making Dom shrug. "I've got a need for speed."
Before Dom's lips could meet mine, the man from before climbed out of his car and walked over to us. Dom turned and faced the man, ready to be swore at or punched, but the man surprised us both with his words. "A deal's a deal. You own my car, and you earn my respect."
Dom looks at me, making me smile and nod, already knowing what was deep down in his thoughts. Facing the man, Dom pushes the keys back towards the man, "Keep your car. Your respect is good enough for me."
Wrapping an arm around me, Dom lead me away from the quieting crowd. He stopped suddenly and turned to Fed, "Yo Cousin. Sorry 'bout your car, yours was too slow for a Toretto anyway." Suddenly, he throws his own keys to Fed, causing Fed to catch them and look at Dom surprised, "Your Impala. Are you serious?"
"Don't go betting this one away either," I said to him making his smile go even wider, looking as if he was about to break his jaw.
Dom and I headed back to the house, enjoying the sunset and sunrise the next morning. It was like we couldn't get enough of each other. But right now, I had to make this moment either better or worst.
It had been on my mind for almost a week now, making me more and more nervous every minute of every day. But if you asked Dom, he would never say he saw it, because he didn't.
Right now, Dom and I were laying in the bed, watching the sun rise or each other. My head laid on his chest as his arm wrapped itself around me protectively. A huge smile was on his face as he looked down at me, making me share his smile. "Look at that smile, I love it when you smile," I said, laying my hand on his chest.
"You make me happy," Dom whispered to me making a blush rush to my face.
"I think this place makes you happy. It's like it speaks to you," I say, making Dom look out the open window again. "You remember that guy? The Racer and his dad," I asked, making Dom look back down at me, "The one with the boat engine? Yeah, of course."
Readjusting myself so I could see his face better, my insides took a deep breath as I tried to come up with a plain.
"I was looking at them, and I couldn't help but too imagine what you'd be like, if you were dad," I said, making Dom eye me for a minute, as if his eyes were asking me questions.
Suddenly, it clicked in Dom's mind and his hand immediately reached down to my stomach, making a small giggle leave my lips. "Are you-?" He started to question to me, but I stopped him with a nod, "I'm pregnant." Seeing the sparkle and happiness in his eyes as he kissed me, then my stomach, told me that everything would be okay, that he was ready to be a dad.
And I was ready to be a mom.
