Chapter 10: Old Things

After having a good time at the beach, Faye and Yoko headed to their next destination, a train station. This was a station that had been around since the war and had been renovated to be used as a new station for a small district on the outskirts of a coastal city. The station was almost divided into two parts, the old and the new. When they entered, they were in the new station. Faye and Yoko had to put on masks and hats to avoid unnecessary stares. Just when they thought there was no way to explore the station because there were too many people around, little Yoko pulled Faye to another corner.

"I saw online that there is a door here that leads to the old train station." Yoko took her hand and pulled her away, saying to Faye.

Because she was walking in a hurry and a bit sneakily, Faye was afraid that she would bump into people coming from the opposite direction, so she pulled her closer to her, using her superior height to clear the way for her to move forward more easily.

"Take it slow, baby."

"Hehe." Yoko happily winked. "That way, sis."

The two of them left their inner space, entered a row of old station staff offices, weaved through a few corners without being stopped by anyone, and then passed through a large wooden door. At this moment, the scene completely changed, both of them seemed to be separated from the new station just now. Before their eyes was a long corridor with cement arches and ancient tiled roofs, with grass and trees growing all over the walls on one side, and on the other side was a wide open view with railway tracks.

In some places, there were still large rusty old train compartments that had not been moved, but were left there exposed to the sun and rain. No one knew who had shown Yoko this place, but even Faye was surprised. This space resembled a train station scene from the previous century, consisting of old cement sheds for passengers to wait for the train, interspersed with abandoned railway lines and train cars. Between the sheds were rows of wild trees climbing up the walls. Modern trains could still be seen in the distance, so perhaps this place was still being used as a new train station and had not been demolished.

Aside from the new trains in the distance, the most out of place thing at the moment seemed to be these two girls from the modern era. Yoko took off their masks and hats and stuffed them into her backpack, then happily held up her camera and took a picture of Faye's quiet surprise as she looked at the scene.

This girl, Faye looked at Yoko, thinking to herself but unable to complete the sentence.

There are always places where you have a million words to say, but you don't know where to start.

With such a classic, deserted, and beautiful ancient place like another world, the two of them just quietly walked around and enjoyed the scenery. Yoko was almost ready to make a whole photo album of Faye. She playfully begged Faye to let her hair down and pose from the old walls, to the old railway tracks and trains for her to take pictures. Or she simply asked her to walk around the scene. Sometimes Faye would pull her back, grab her camera and take pictures of her, or of both of them.

Whether or not this old station was actually on the list of filming locations or what kind of dialogue their scenes here required was no longer important at this point. This place was practically their own world.

Min looked at the images captured by the camera from a hidden corner in the bushes and was silent.

In the old train station's ancient setting, Yoko walked on the old tracks, smiling happily. She turned back to look at Faye, one hand holding the camera up to take a picture of the other person. Faye was afraid that she would fall, so she gently walked close to her and held her hand to keep her balance. Because of the height difference, even though their positions were like that, their eyes were still at the same level. Faye was also looking into her eyes, both worried that she would fall and pampering her.

After being an assistant director for so long, this was the first time she felt such a strong sense of acting coming from the camera angle, and felt that the existence of three people here was truly too redundant. The three people huddled in the bushes were no different from thieves.

Sister Wan really has an eye for choosing actors. These two are so compatible in every scene. Whether it was intentional or not.

Not for the first time, Min is still amazed by director Wan's ability to choose actors.

After walking around the old station and taking almost an entire album of photos, Faye and Yoko left the station. Before leaving, Yoko bowed her head to review the photos she had taken, not noticing that Faye had stopped to look at a clump of trees hidden in the corner of an old wall. Faye frowned slightly, looked at that spot thoughtfully for three seconds, then left.

The three paparazzi team was shocked and held their breath, the bush that Faye was looking at was the corner where the three of them were hiding.

By the time the three of them dared to follow them out, Faye and Yoko had already left the station on their car.

That evening, the first time Faye came to Yoko's house, Faye thought that her family was not an ordinary family. After a while, Faye's thought was proven correct. Because if you only looked at Yoko's villa, you would think that her family was a rich family. But if you knew the value of this land, it would be different. This was an independent villa in a housing area that the government had allocated to high-ranking officials who had contributed to the revolution in the last century. The land here was only allocated once after the war ended, and no one had ever sold it on the market. The two words Old Money ran through Faye's mind. The first time Faye thought about her family like this, it seemed a bit hasty and inappropriate.

The car parked in the courtyard of the villa, Faye and Yoko clumsily carried their things into the house. Before coming, Faye had considered the issue of not visiting the elders in the house empty-handed, despite Yoko's objection, Faye still bought a luxurious fruit basket as a gift.

Yoko's mother was a plump woman with a kind face. As soon as she saw Faye and her daughter enter, she immediately exclaimed how beautiful Faye was, then pulled her hand into the house. As for her beloved daughter Yoko, she was left aside. Yoko's mother happily got Faye some water and chatted with her, then like any other normal parent, she asked Faye about Yoko at work, asked if she was good at work, if she treated everyone well?

Yoko's father was a man of few words, he was a bit thin and tall, during the conversation between Faye and her wife, he just sat there listening and reading the newspaper, occasionally nodding in agreement with her wife when her name was called. He also sometimes looked at Faye very attentively with a look that said 'I wonder if this girl is a good person?' which made Faye a bit embarrassed, because after all, she was the one who was about to act in a gay movie with her daughter.

Faye Peraya was always very polite and knew how to please her elders. The three of them laughed and talked. When Yoko finished putting away all her things and came downstairs, she saw her mother still holding Faye's hand to talk while her father sat next to her quietly listening.

"Mom and Dad, Faye needs to go to her room, we've been out all day." She was used to talking to her family, whining. Then she realized that Faye didn't know she was always whining to her family like that, so she smiled mischievously.

"That's right, we were having so much fun talking that I forgot." She said as she stood up and pushed Faye towards Yoko: "Faye, go upstairs. Make yourself at home, we have two daughters, so it's very comfortable."

"Thank you, uncle and aunt." Faye politely thanked them, then followed Yoko back to her room.

Yoko took Faye to a guest bedroom on the second floor of the villa. This was a room with warm yellow light, fully equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning, television, but still had a nostalgic feel because of the items left from the previous decade such as bookshelves, night lights, reading lights, bedside tables and wardrobes. Yoko pointed to the two closed doors in the room and said

"One door is the bathroom door, and the other door leads to my room. I will unlock it on my side, so if anything happens, just go through that door and you will find me."

Then she opened a door and showed it to Faye. Behind the door was her room with pink and white tones, the walls were filled with pictures of little Yoko from childhood to adulthood.

"Before, the two rooms were connected because my two aunts were twins, so my grandfather made the two rooms connected. After my two aunts no longer lived here, my father converted it into a guest room."

"Then don't come over tonight to scare me." Faye said jokingly.

Yoko pretended to scare her, then said goodbye and went back to her room.

When she was alone in the room, Faye walked over to the neatly made bed and lay down, looking at the ceiling. Her eyes were no longer the cheerful ones she had used to socialize with everyone, but were filled with a vague sadness.

'It's so good to have both mom and dad...' Faye sighed softly.

When she was little, Faye had a blank memory. She couldn't remember what she did, nor how she ended up on that deserted road. The only childhood memory that remained in her mind was when her father carried her home. He rubbed her hands as he carried her, saying he had been looking for her for a while, her voice hoarse as he asked her, 'Where have you been?'

Faye was seven years old at the time, but could not answer where she had gone.

He talked a lot, all nonsense to a seven-year-old girl, but one sentence stuck with her: 'Faye, come home, your mother has passed away.'

'It's so good to have mom and dad...' Faye put her hand on her forehead and covered her eyes.
