Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Sam, Dean, and I walked out of a cabin home in Fall River, Massachusetts. Dean unbuttoned his FBI suit with a sigh as he talked to his brother "I thought you said you had a good feeling about that one."

"Yeah, well, it seemed like a solid lead, Dean. Only a soulless psycho would kill the family cat."

"That or a dryer. But, you know, either one could be supernatural," I said, making Sam sigh.

"You know, we've been here since Monday and still haven't found another legit victim. Maybe Amara moved on or stopped feeding altogether."

Dean shrugged, approaching the Impala, "Well... finding her victims is still the best shot we got at finding her."

Suddenly, Sam's phone rings and he steps off while Dean is taking off his jacket and throwing it in the backseat.

"Maybe we can get Cas to help us," I commented.

Dean leaned his arms on the roof of the Impala, "He's still out of it from the spell. He's keeping an ear out on anything on Metatron but who knows how long that'll take."

"Yeah," I mumbled, sighing.

"We'll figure it out," He said, making me scuff.

"Yeah, we just need to find Amara, find a way to kill her, and actually kill her. Oh, and have a wedding somewhere in there too."

Dean shrugged, "Or we could just go to the court and get married."

I opened my mouth to respond only for Sam to approach us and cut any words off. "That was the sheriff, apparently a girl came in, killed her family. He says it's like she had no soul all of a sudden."

Opening the backseat, I said, "Well, that was convenient."

The three of us piled into the Impala before heading off to the police station. We talked to the girl, Goldie, who seemed to match Amara's taste, soulless. We were able to use her though to our advantage and set up a trap.

After an hour had passed and we were sure to give up home, a demon walked his way down to Goldie's sell. He uses some keys and opens it, causing her to quickly stand and back up to the wall as he entered.

"Boss' daughter's been making a mess in town..." The demon said, pulling out a knife. "And it's my job to clean it up. Nothing personal."

The man's eye turn black as he lunges towards Goldie with the knife. He suddenly comes to a stop though, his eyes changing back to normal as he looks up at the ceiling. A Devil's trap is painted on ceiling, making him sigh in frustration.

Sam, Dean, and I walk up to the cell, smiling as the demon turns to us.

"Nice work, Goldie," Sam said, causing Goldie to shrug like it was nothing.

Dean rose an eyebrow, "So, Crowley and Amara?"

"Wish I could say I'm surprised, but nothing really surprises me anymore," I said, crossing my arms over my chest.

We tie up the demon and take him to a motel room where we are quick to tie him up there as well.

I walk over, yanking the hood off his face and revealing the room we are in. "Rise and shine, buttercup," I said, taking a step back and crossing my arms. Sam and Dean lean against the wall behind me, watching and asking questions.

Sam spoke up, "What's Crowley doing with Amara?"

"Don't know, don't care. Wouldn't tell you if I did," He said, giving us a toothy smile.

"Well, we already know she's growing up fast."

"Yeah, well, demon souls, they do a body good." I stare at the demon, raising a brow at hi which causes him to sigh. "Little Muppet tore through half my buds before Crowley put her on a diet. She didn't like that. Started sneaking out to get her fill. You know how kids are. But daddy put his foot down."

I quickly pull out the demon killing knife and put it to his throat, silencing him, "Enough of the fill ins. Where's he hiding her?"

The demon laughed at my action, "I'm happy to keep gossiping with you, but you want actionable intelligence? Torture me if you want. I know you'll just kill me anyway."

Dean shrugged, pushing himself off the wall, "Hmm. Well, it looks like a stalemate to me. I guess we go ahead and kill him right now."

I was in agreement but sadly Sam wasn't, speaking up and stopping any actions that may have been taken. "No, no, no, wait. We can exorcise him."

Turning to look at Sam, I eyed him, raising a brow, "You're kidding. We don't have that kind of time, Sam."

"My two cents? You exorcise me, let me smoke on out of here, I give you my word not to tell Crowley," the Demon said, making Sam look at him quizzically and Dean to scuff.

"Wait a second," Sam walked over to the Demon, pulling the top of his shirt to the side and revealing a bullet wound that was sure to have killed the man. "There's no way his suit survived that wound," Sam sighed, walking back to the wall.

I shrugged, looking at Demon, "Well, back to it than." I'm quick to stab the demon in the chest, causing him to yell out before going limp. A huff left me as I turned to Dean and Sam, putting my hands on my hips. "So, whose turn is it to hide the body?"

Thankfully, it was Dean's turn.

Sam and I stayed back, Sam looking on his computer for more information while I looked through the demon's phone and wallet.

Eventually, Dean returned, walking in, "Hey."

"Hey," I said as he walked over to the bed, giving me a kiss.

"Where'd you ditch the body?" Sam asked from the table.

Dean walked over to sink, answering casually, "School playground." I give him a look that made him chuckle, "Kidding. Hospital parking lot. What'd you two find?"

Sam returned to his computer, "Well, uh, good news. Brooke was able to find Crowley's number and I used that to track the calls. He's been all over the place around here following Amara."

"And every place he's been, there's been victims," I stated.

"Well, that limits it to cities instead of states," Dean said, grabbing a beer from the fridge.

Nodding in agreement, Sam replied, "Yeah, but what I don't get is, why would Crowley have Amara on earth in the first place? Wouldn't it be smarter to keep her in Hell?"

"Yeah, but then he'd have to spend more time there, and he hates that place."

"He's not the only one," I mumbled under my breath.

Sam nodded, scuffing, "Oh, right. I keep forgetting about you guys and Crowley's summer of love."

Dean and I equally glared at Sam, not wanting to get into that again. Instead, Dean looked at the large map that was tapped to the wall. "Well, there isn't much out here except farms and swamps."

"That's what I thought, but then I came across this. The Needham Asylum. Decommissioned in '63. Sound like Crowley's kind of place to you?"

Nodding, Dean took a swig of his beer as he said, "Alright, let's get to it."

Sam stood, stopping his brother, "So, we're really gonna do this... Now?"

Dean nodded, setting his beer down. "Hell, yeah. I've been looking for a chance to get back at Crowley ever since he tried to kill Brooke back at Cedar Rapids. Especially now that I know he made off with the Darkness."

"No, that's not what I meant. We're going in to kill Amara. Are you guys ready for that?"

My brows pulled together in confusion, "Why wouldn't we be?"

"Because we don't know the first thing about her. We don't know her powers. We don't know how to take her down. Hell, you know what? We don't even know if she can be killed."

Dean looked at the ground, frustrated but knew part of Sam's words were right. We were going in blind. "I know. But she's too big of a threat to wait. I say we go in there and we hit her with everything we got."

Sam sighs, running his hand through his hair before walking over to pack up his stuff. Dean hesitates for a moment before looking back at me, both of us looking unsure and nervous.

Maybe Sam was right, maybe we wouldn't be able to kill her. Both physically and mentally.

The three of us head out, entering the abandoned asylum driveway. We climbed out of the Impala and climbed up the stairs to the asylum. "No guards at the perimeter?" Dean said, confused.

"Looks like there are no guards at the door, either," Sam said, his eyes looking around.

"Maybe he gave them the day off," I joked, to which Dean scuffed and mumbled, "Yeah, we can hope."

Once we arrived at the door, we found a chain with a lock on it and some wards painted on the door, keeping everyone out.

Sam eyed the door, "External security may be lax, but we still don't know how many demons we're gonna face inside."

"Well, let's find out," Dean said and leaned over, picking the lock before opening the door. Dust, leaves, and God knows what else moved inside. Dean turned to me, "After you."

I turned, looking at Sam with a smile, "Age before beauty."

Sam rolled his eyes at my comment and entered with Dean and me to follow. No one.

"Well, let's get this part started, shall we," Dean said.

Dean's POV

Sam and Brooke ducked and hid while I stood in the middle of the hallway, playing an old voicemail by Crowley.

Eventually a demon comes walking down the hallway. The Demon sees me standing at the end of the hallway holding a cellphone and rushes towards me. As he gets to me, he is blindsided by Sam who knocks him out with a pole. Brooke quickly cuffs him before we stand with proud smiles.

The sound of demons are heard, coming to investigate the noise. I turn to my brother who is kneeling next to the demon, "You know what? Go. Take her out. I got them."

I'm hesitant at first and look to Brooke who looks equally hesitant. She hands Sam the keys to the cuffs, saying, "Careful." He nods before Brooke and I head down the hallway to Amara's room.

We push open the double doors, finding a teenage looking Amara sitting at a des, filing her nails. She smiled and looks over to us as we enter. "I knew you'd come."

Amara stands up from the desk and stands in front of us, causing me to shift slightly. "I'm sorry, Amara."

"For what?" Amara asked, confused.

"What we have to do," I said, looking tentatively at her. I pull out the demon knife, gripping it in my hand.

Amara stares at me, squinting her eyes before I hear Crowley's voice behind me. "Hello, Dean." As I turn around, Crowley flicks his hand, sending me flying across the room and into a standing mirror. It shatters and glass falls around me.

I faintly hear Brooke's voice yell my name, before Crowley speaks.

"Your life was spared last time, but this time, I'll make sure that doesn't happen."

I look up, catching sight of Crowley's hand being held out, choking Brooke is rising from the ground. Her fingers claw at the air around her neck as she tried to breath.

"Let her go!" I yelled, standing and lunging to Crowley. With his free hand he pins me to the wall roughly, making me growl. "Stop!"

Brooke is still choking, her eyes going to the back of her head. She suddenly goes limp in the air and Crowley throws her across the room. My eyes watch in horror and I fight the invisible force around me, trying to reach out to Brooke.

Amara steps behind Crowley and hits him in the back of the head with a blunt object, causing him to stumble and turn to her. Amara flicks her hand and Crowley's wrist bends backward, snapping. The sound makes me cringe. She then flings him into the wall, pinning him there. The action frees me from the wall and I run to Brooke.

"Brooke! Brooke!" I yell, turning her on her back and checking her pulse. Nothing.

"Come on, baby. Breath," I beg, staring to do CPR.

No, this can't happen again. I won't lose her, not like this. I'm not one to pray but I prayed to whoever was listening, good or bad, begging them not to take Brooke from me.

I could feel the tears threatening my eyes as I breathed into Brooke's lips. She suddenly gasps, her eyes opening, before she turns and coughs. I can't help but wrap my arms around her, hugging her close to me as I breathe out in relief.

Brooke is trying to catch air for a moment before turning slightly to look at Crowley and Amara. I follow her eyes, watching Crowley struggle against the wall.

"Why, Amara? I thought we had an understanding."

"Yeah. Your promise to protect me. And, then, hours later, I'm assaulted in my own room."

"Well, you don't seem terribly upset by it," Crowley smiles through the pain.

"That's not the point. I've decided I don't need your protection, and I certainly don't need your captivity." Amara raises her hand towards Crowley as she says, "I am done."

In the hallway I hear Sam's voice yelling Brooke and I's name as he tries to find us.

I stand to move towards the doors, but they are slammed shut. Amara uses her free hand and pushes me back against the wall, near Brooke.

Sam starts banging on the door while I watch as Amara focuses back on Crowley. She squeezes her fist and Crowley start bleeding from the mouth, grimacing in pain.

"It's time, time for you to blink your tired ass back to your throne and lick your wounds. I'll spare your life on one condition. Safe passage for Dean and Brooke out of here after I've gone."

Brooke and I look at the scene before us, confused and shocked by Amara's words.

"Okay, yes!" Crowley yells, straining in pain.

Amara released everyone from her hold, leaving me to stumble slightly while Crowley shifts in pain.

"Good. Now... Get out of my room."

Crowley glares at Amara before limping his way out of her room and disappearing.

I pick up the demon knife, holding it in my hands as Brooke stands up, rubbing her throat. Amara looks over her shoulder, smiling slightly, "You won't." She turns and faces Brooke and I, "You can't."

Amara walks towards Brooke and I slowly, talking at she does so. "The three of us have quiet the thing going. You two save me, I save you. Around and around we go."

She stops in front of Brooke, studying her before lightly putting a hand on her cheek. The action confuses both Brooke and I but we make no sudden movements. "You're so beautiful," Amara mumbled to Brooke.

Lowering her hand, Amara looks to me, smiling as she says, "I see what you see in her."

My eyes glance at Brooke, unknowingly taking her hand in mine in a protective way. Amara see's this and takes a step back, as if trying to give us space in hopes of not being so tense.

Not possible.

"You two were the first things I saw when I was freed, and it had been so long. Maybe that's it, my first experience of his creation. To see you, to see what love is. I can't help it, I'm fascinated. It's been great seeing you again, Dean and Brooke, but it's time for me to go. There's a whole world out there for me to explore, and I can practically taste it. Soon, I'll be strong enough to do what I came here to do."

"What's that?" I whispered.

"Settle an old score, the oldest score," Amara smiles.

Suddenly, Sam crashes through the door and stumbles into the room. Amara turns to him, throwing her arm and sending Sam flying out of the room again. Brooke and I feel frozen in our spots, unable to move. Either Amara was keeping us there or our own feet won't move.

Turning towards us, Amara give us a small smile and nod before turning and walking out, passing Sam out the door.

Brooklyn's POV

We all head back to the Bunker, finding Cas who filled us in that he got his powers back and that Metatron vanished, again.

Dean spoke up, angry, "Look, I'm as glad as anyone that you got your groove back, okay? But you let Metatron go?"

Cas sighed in annoyance, "Dean, how many times are you gonna repeat that question?"

"I'm gonna say it again. You let Metatron go!" Dean said, equally as annoyed.

"He's not going anywhere. If he makes a move, if he draws the slightest attention, the full force of angel kind will snuff him out. Look, none of you saw him. He is a human, and a pitiable one at that. He's not a threat to us. I mean, I put him in traction."

I rose a brow at him, "Are you sure it wasn't an act?"

"I'm sure."

Sam spoke up, grabbing our attention as he sat down, "Guys, bigger fish to fry here. Amara is in the wind."

Dean through his arm outward, "Yeah, God's freaking sister apparently."

Cas looked at Dean and I, asking, "You both said you were close. How'd she get away?"

I was silent, looking at the ground as Dean's mouth parted for a second. "I'm sorry, what part of "God's freaking sister" did you not understand? She overpowered us."

"What about you Brooke? Sam said you just stood there."

My head wiped up, looking at Cas angry, "Oh, I'm sorry, what was I supposed to do? I was literally dead two minutes before then. I could barely process words let alone a fight."

Dean waved his hands in the air, "What's our plan here? You said you got everything you could out of Metatron, right? So, where on earth are we gonna find an answer on how to stop her?" Cas said nothing, causing Dean to look at Sam and sarcastically say, "I don't suppose God's decided to share any wisdom on the matter."

Sam rolled his eyes, walking into the library as he yelled, "I'll look into the lore."

All of this was too much for me, causing me feet to move as I said, "I need a shower." I say nothing more after that, walking into my room to grab some new clothes before heading to the bathroom. As I turn the water on, I realize my hand is shaking, causing me to stare at it.

I recall what I saw when I died, making my heart race.

Flashes of red lightning and thunder crack all around me as I'm trapped in Lucifer's cage, unable to escape. My head spins before settling on a pair of red eyes.

"Hello again, Brooklyn."

Sorry about the sudden POV change but I wanted to catch Dean's reaction when Brooke died.

Anyways, that ending! What do you guys think it means? Hope your enjoying the book and Amara's "relationship" with Dean and Brooke. As for the whole "Amara kissing Dean" thing that is supposed to happen in the future. Let's just say, no matter what, Dean would never cheat on Brooke.
