Chapter 20

Chapter 20

Brooklyn's POV

Dean, Sam, and I sat in the library of the Bunker, drinking some coffee as we all tried to wake up. But one sentence started everyone up like a firecracker. And what would that sentence be?

Sam mentioning going into the cage to see Lucifer.

"Because it's crazy, okay! And it's not going to happen. How many times do I have to say that this is a horrible idea?" Dean yelled, anger in his voice as he looked at his brother.

Here we go.

"About as many as I have to say, okay then what else have we got? Listen, I'm all ears. Dean, ordinarily I'd agree with you, but the visions only happen when I reach out to God. I asked him for a way to beat the Darkness and the visions got more specific... and I was in the Cage."

"Yeah, with Lucifer. The biggest monster ever hatched. Fan-freaking-tastic!"

"You know Lucifer was the biggest monster ever hatched, until you and I hatched one that's even worse," Sam said, making Dean sigh. "Listen, in the vision, Lucifer touches me and I feel calm, like things will be all right. And that's not something I would ever come up with. I mean that is the last thing that I would ever feel."

Dean stood up, grabbing his cup and refilling it with coffee, "If Lucifer touched you, it would be the last thing you think. Ever." He turned back to his brother, sitting back down across from him while I sat at the end of the table. "Why would God even ask this of you? What proof do we have that any of this is actually real?"

"There was a burning bush."

"A burning bush?" I asked, surprised.

"Like in the Bible," Sam said, making a "hm" leave my lips before I took a sip of my coffee again.

Dean threw his hand outward, "You were in the forest. There are bushes there and sometimes they burn!"

"No they don't," I commented.

"Not the point," Dean said, pointing at me but still looking at his brother. Dean dropped his hand and sighed, "You know what man? Maybe there is something to it all, maybe, and maybe there's not."

"Dean, doesn't it make sense? I mean, Lucifer would know how God ended the Darkness. He was there."

Shaking his head, Dean leans back in his chair.

"He's got a point," I shrugged, making Dean groan in annoyance, "You know I really hate it when you two team up on me."

I smiled and leaned in, giving him a kiss on the cheek which lessened his grumpy mood.

Later on that day we called up Crowley to meet us under a bridge, explaining what we'd like to happen. As expected, Crowley was unconvinced.

"So God assured you of this, did he? I'd say you're making this up but I never think of you as imaginative," Crowley said, looking at Sam. "You on the other hand-"

"Oh, can it Crowley," I spat at him, making Crowley shrug and Dean sigh.

"We're not saying it's going to happen. We just want to know if it's possible."

Crowley rolled his eyes, "The Cage is a can of worms you do not want to open. I believe this conversation is over..." He rose his hand, preparing to snap his fingers when Dean spoke up.

"Is it? Crowley, you know that the Darkness is going to pound on everything and that includes you."

Sam nodded and added, "Yeah. And you had a shot at taking her out when she was with you, but apparently you thought that sucking up was the way to go."

"And that didn't work out so well," I added.

Crowley rose his eyes, looking between Dean and I, "Because she chose you two. What happened in that room? Why did she insist on sparing you two so much?"

Sam, quizzically, looked at Dean and me before focusing back on Crowley. "What is she to you?"

Dean and I looked at each other, both of us slipping out hands into our pockets. "She's God sister," Dean said, a bit annoyed.

We watched Crowley's eyes go wide before he looked at the ground in anger. "God's sister? He has relatives? I had that kind of leverage under my thumb and I let it slip away."

I rolled my eyes, "Can we focus on the big picture here okay? Can Sam meet with Lucifer or not?"

"In the Cage," Sam added.

Dean quickly spun his brother to look at him, "No, not in the Cage. That's not going to happen."

"Okay, then I don't meet with Lucifer," Sam shrugged and Dean sighed. "Dean, we can't let him out."

We all looked at Crowley watching him think for a second, "There may be a way. Clearly, if Sam enters the Cage he's gone. And yes, it's on my bucket list, now is not the time to be selfish. Need a secure site, a way to neutralize Lucifer's powers."

"In Hell?" Sam asked?

"Yes, in Hell! So we have a modicum of control. You think I want that abomination running amuck upstairs?"

I spoke up, pointing towards Sam, worried, "Is it possible to control the situation because if Sam's not safe it's not happening."

"Goodness mummy, loosen the grip. Theoretically it's possible, with challenges. I can arrange for transit into Hell. Opening the Cage, that's another matter."

Dean looked at Crowley, confused, "You're the King of the joint. Don't you have a key?"

"It was sealed by God Himself. Of course I don't have a key. The mechanisms of divine manufacturer, I believe its secrets, along with the spells for warding Sam were recorded where many such mysteries are found – the Book of the Damned."

"Of course," I mumbled.

Crowley suddenly snapped his fingers, taking us to his "kingdom". "We're going to need help," Crowley said before looking at a demon, "Fetch my mother." Crowley moved to his Throne as a demon brought in Rowena. She looked over at Sam, Dean, and I and scuffed before looking at her son.

"Oh, you're not handing me over to them. It's beneath even you. They're your enemies as well."

I shrugged, crossing my arms, "You know what they say, Rowena. The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Dean stepped forward, getting straight to the point. "Right now we've got bigger fish to fry. Then we can go back to killing each other."

Rowena smirked, "Ah, the chicken's come home to roost. This ghastly force set free when the Mark was removed."

"So you know?" Sam asked?

"I've heard whispers. As bad as they say?" She asked?

Dean rose his head a little, "Well, let's just say that everyone in this room might hold a piece of the puzzle to corking it back up."

Raising an eye brow, Rowena asked, "Oh, really, and what happens to me once the danger is past? How do I know that I can trust any of you?"

"Technically, you can't. But..." I let my words trail off and nodded towards Crowley who grabbed his mother's attentions with his words.

"I'll make you a little deal Mommy. You pitch in like a good girl; I'll call off my assassins. No more looking over your shoulder, for now."

Rowena paused, thinking it over for a second before looking to Sam, "I'll need the Codex, of course. And the code-breaker Charlie devised."

At hearing Charlie's name, I felt my body tense and it took every part of me not to yell at Rowena for even mentioning Charlie's name.

Sam quickly commented, "Yeah, you'll get limited access. Supervised."

"We need to know exactly this..." Dean rose up a finger as he spoke, "How to open the Cage and how to protect Sam once it is."

Rowena's brows pulled together in confusion, "Just what's in this cage that's so dangerous?"

Dean and I looked at each other before I sighed and answered, "Lucifer."

"Lucifer? The original Dark Prince?" Rowena filled with excitement, practically jumping up and down.

Sighing, Dean said, "Yes, an arch-angel so bad-assed that he was personally dumped into the Cage by God himself."

"Try to contain your excitement," I added.

Rowena did as told, but you could still see the giant smile on her face as she looked at all of us, "Well, let's get to it then." With that, we grabbed what would be needed before leaving Sam with Rowena to keep an eye on her.

Dean and I followed up on a case at a church with multiple deaths, seeming to match Amara. We changed into our Fed outfits before heading to the church. We talked to one of the officers before heading back out to the Impala.

"You should call Sam and let him know what we found," I said to Dean as we walked to the Impala.

Pulling out his cell, Dean called Sam, putting him on speaker as we climbed into the car. "Hey Sammy. Sorry to stick you on witch duty, as hard as it sounds?"

"Every bit. But the stuff we're looking for is definitely in the Book. You find anything at the church?"

I spoke up, "The cops said that the last time the vics were seen alive, one of them was a Priest and they were talking to some mystery woman. She was not killed."

"Amara?"

"Sounds like it," I shrugged.

Dean added, "Apparently it's a massacre. The place is covered in blood."

"She's upping her game. She's going to pass the point where we can deal with her," Sam said, making Dean and I look a little worried at each other before Dean spoke up again.

"Listen. Are you sure that you're okay with this whole deal?"

Sam sighed, "No. Not even a little. But what choice do we have, you know?"

"Okay, well for the record. I hate it."

"Same," I added.

Dean held the phone closer to his mouth, hoping that it will sink in better in Sam's head. "Just wait for us, okay? Don't do anything until we get there."

"Right now it's just research, but, you got it, nothing without you guys."

"Alright, good luck," I said.

"You too," With that, we hung up and sat in silence for a moment.

"Dean, she's got to be close by," I commented, making Dean nod and look straight ahead.

"Yeah."

"And when we find her, then what? I mean, we don't have a way to hold her or stop her, and... as much as I hate to admire it, I'm not so sure I could." I looked down in shame at my own words, but they were true.

I felt Dean reach over and lay his land on mine, making me look up at him, "Honestly, I'm not so sire either. But maybe we can at least talk to her. She seems to listen to us... to an extent."

My eyes went wide and I cracked a smile, "Wow, Dean Winchester voting we talk first rather than punch first. Who are you and what have you done with my fiancé?"

Rolling his eyes with a smile and pulling his hand away to start the car, Dean said, "Yeah, I've been wondering that too. I guess Sam's rubbing off on me."

I laid a hand on Dean's shoulder making him look at me as I said with a serious face, "Dean, don't become Sam, please." We both starred at each other before bursting out into a laughter.

"Will do, babe. Will do," Dean said before we drove off.

Dean and I stopped at a local park, where a food truck sat, to grab some lunch. I leaned against the Impala while Dean walked up to the line. My attention seemed to fog though and I found myself looking around in hopes of finding the reason for this sudden fogginess.

"Brooke," I heard my name being whispered in the wind that brushed past me. My head turned to Dean who was looking off, seeming to be suffering from the same thing I was.

"Dean!" I yelled, causing him to look over at me. We both looked at each other, both of us knowing that something was going on.

I watch as Dean's phone rings and he goes to answer it but stops. My eyes look away from Dean though, being pulled away, and I see Amara standing just a few feet from me.

"Amara," Dean said, standing behind her now, his mouth parted in shock like mine was.

Amara smiled at us, "Amara: You both felt my presence. That's why you came here."

I blink and suddenly Dean and I are transported. We are no longer at the park but instead at a clearing with surrounding mountains, lake, and forest. It was beautiful.

Once again, Amara appeared before us, looking as she did in Dean and I's visions. A grown woman.

"You grew up," Dean said, next to me.

"Yes."

I nodded towards her, "So is this how you are, or next time will we be talking to an old women?"

"I'll appear as old as I want to be. Right now, this is it." She paused, seeing the tension in our bodies as we shifted uncomfortable, unsure of what to do or say. "You misunderstand my purpose on earth."

Dean shrugged, "Well, do we misunderstand the people that you butchered in the park or that church?"

"I had to get his attention."

"Who's?" I asked, confused.

"God. I tried praying, calling out in need. He ignored me."

I scuffed slightly, looking off a little, "Yeah, should have told you, that's kind of his thing."

"He forced my hand. I had no other reason to harm his chosen. My issue is with my brother, not his creation."

Shaking his head and holding up his hands, "Whatever the deal is between you two; whoever threw the first punch, whoever was Daddy's favorite..."

"There was no Daddy."

"Whatever. That mess is your mess. It's between you two. You're taking people's lives. You're taking their souls."

Amara smiled, shaking her head, "I consumed their souls. They aren't gone. They're a part of me and, in that way, they live forever."

Dean and I glanced at each other, unsure if we should believe her or not. Amara saw this and commented, "I see the wariness in your eyes, the mistrust. I don't blame you."

"Don't you?" Dean asked, raising a brow at her.

Amara started to pace slowly as she spoke, "It's incredible. How it endures, the propaganda. He was so threatened by me, fearful that I would make a more perfect creation than he. So, he exiled me. Virtually erased me. Passed on stories that I was a threat."

"While your brother was going all Kanye, blowing his horn."

"He encouraged religions as monuments to his ego, promised the fearful safety if they'd adore him. His way or the highway."

I spoke up against that, not believing in it myself but knowing others that do. "Some people like that. In fact, they find comfort in it. They need rules."

Amara stopped and looked at us, "What if there were no rules? No pain. No prayer. Just bliss. For everyone. Forever."

Dean shifted in his stance, "What is it exactly that you want? When you make the world of bliss and peace, what's in it for you?"

"What I deserve."

"Which is?" I asked?

Amara extended her arms out, "Everything. I was the beginning and I will be the end. I will be all that there is."

"So, you're it. That would make you God."

"No, God was the Light. I'm the Dark."

I rose my head a little, "Light is life and dark is destruction. My parents taught me that."

Amara squinted at me with a faint smile, "Yet you would be the first to disagree. You out of all people would understand that there isn't just light and dark, black and white. There is more to every story, even ours."

As Dean talks, he reaches into his jacket and pulls out a silver blade, gripping it in his hand. "What happens next, then?"

"That's all you need to know for now."

Dean quickly takes a step forward and plunges the blade into Amara. The blade shatters, as it doesn't penetrate her body or even her dress. The useless broken shards fall to the ground, while Dean and I look stunned.

Amara smiled at the action, "You had to know that was pointless. I know that you're a warrior and your instinct is to resist. But I can't be resisted. I could make you do anything I want, both of you. But, instead I let you respond as you do, because you are both God's most powerful creation."

"Why?" I asked, putting my hand on Dean's arm and pulling him back a step.

"You're connected. Soulmates are created with a piece of God in them. Their made for a purpose, a future. It amazing and beautiful. And to think, you bore the Mark, you bore me. It's fate that we're all standing here."

Dean stuck up his chin, as if trying to prove a point, "I don't believe in fate."

"But you believe in each other."

Before another thing could be said, two angels, wielding blades, appear in the clearing. Angel one yelled out, "Amara! You're going to surrender to us and to the judgement of Heaven."

Amara turned to the angels, looking as if she was going to laugh, "Why ever would I submit to anything of God's creation? Tell your master to come fetch me himself."

Angel two responded, "All of Heaven's on high alert. If you resist, each and every angel in the skies will smite you, in a single unified blow."

"Not even you could survive it," Added Angel one.

Dean put his hands up, taking a step forward, "Whoa, whoa, fellows, dial it down a bit, okay. Look, if you take her down, a whole bunch of people are going to die."

"We're at the point where sacrifice is inevitable," Angel one said, glaring Dean down. He strides forward towards Amara, who holds up her hand. He freezes, his eyes glow white, and his grace explodes from inside his body as he dies."

Angel two steps forward now and Amara raises her hand, but before anything can happen, I run in front of him and stand between the two. Amara, at the sight of me puts her hand down as I speak, "Stop! Enough blood has been shed, Amara."

I hear a gasp behind me and a groaning noise, causing me to slowly turn towards the angel. He clutches his gut, coughing, before he quickly rises up, revealing black eyes.

"Hello, Brooklyn," The Angel says, his voice dark, sending a chill up my spine. Suddenly, the Angel explodes and darkness fills my vison, making me black out for a minute.

Fear fills me as I open my eyes, hearing the faint sound of thunder and lightning. I rise, looking around, before standing when I see Sam, "Sam?"

"Brooke?" He asks, confused.

"Together again," I hear a voice say and I quickly stand, noticing I'm in the cage with Sam and Lucifer. I'm not dead, I know that much, but how and why I'm here still remains unknown.

Lucifer smiles, glancing at Sam before looking at me, "You know, Sam, Brooke was probable one of my favorites. Did she ever tell you she would visit me in my cage? Well, demons brought her to me, but still same."

"Why am I here?" I yelled in fear and anger.

Smirking and waving a finger, Lucifer said, "Oh, did you like my little trick? Yeah, I've been working on that one for a bit, saved it just for you. I just had to wait for the right moment."

Sam, confused, asked, "What is this, Lucifer? This was not in my vision."

"Your right, it wasn't. It would make so much more sense, if it was God that was doing the talking. You see Sam, when the Darkness descended the impact on Hell was massive. The Cage was damaged. Through the fissures I was able to reach out. It wasn't God inside your head Sam. It was me."

Lucifer smiles in satisfaction while fear and sadness fill Sam's face.

"So you see, he's not with you. He's never been with you. It was always... just... me."

Sam shakes his head, not wanting to believe it, which only causes Lucifer to chuckle, "So I guess I am your only hope."

Taking a step forward, I'm surprise by the youngest Winchester's words, "It's never going to happen. I'm not going to let you take over me just to defeat the Darkness."

Shrugging before leaning against the cage, Lucifer crossed his arms. His eyes moved between Sam and me as we looked at each other nervously. "Ah, well, settle in there then buddy, because until I hear Y.E.S, no one's leaving this cage."

The next chapter will be split into two chapters. The next one will be in Brooke's pov and the one after will be the same episode, but in Dean's POV.

Hope your enjoying it so far! How do you think it'll go with Lucifer?
