Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Dean
The sound of water and a boat cruising by was heard as the sun beamed down on Sam and me. Sunglasses on and beers in our hands made it look like we were two brothers enjoying the sunny day. Which, we were.
My eyes glanced out into the open water, very few people out in it since it was mid-day and everyone was probable at work. But my eyes only landed on one person. Her body curved in all the right places, her eyes sparkled with the blue water. Her brown hair was thrown up into a messy bun while her swimsuit held a blood red color to it, standing out.
Brooklyn Myers. My Brooke.
I swear I could watch her sit on that sand bank, water crashing up and just catching her legs, all day long. Which, I probable had already.
"I'm going to marry that girl," I mumbled, causing Sam to look over at me, not catching my words.
"Whatcha say?"
Shaking my head, I looked over at my brother, "Nothing. There's something I've been meaning to ask you."
Sam nodded, "Shoot."
"Smirking in amusement, I said, "You've been... Kicked, bit, scratched, stabbed, possessed, killed... And you sprain your friggin' elbow?"
"Dude, it was more than a sprain. All right? And it was a friggin' demon, but..."
"What? That sling come with a slice of... crybaby pie on the side?" I asked, smirking which caused Sam to smile and shake his head. We both let out a chuckle before I took a swig of my beer.
There was a moment of silence before Sam spoke up again, more serious this time. "There's something you got to understand, Dean. I watched you die."
I could feel my chest tighten, my own pain and sorrow feeling like it was rising up from a hidden place deep inside that I've been trying to hide.
"And I carried you. I carried your corpse into your room, and I put your dead body on your bed, and then you just..."
"Yeah," I said softly, glancing down at the ground. "I know. I guess I was hoping that note would, you know, fill in the blanks."
""Don't look for me"? That note? Yeah, that was really informative. Thanks. But you also left out the part that Brooke was with you. Cas and I thought she ran off."
I looked down in shame, sighing, "Yeah. I..." my words trailed off. I sighed again, shaking my head as I shrugged, "It's embarrassing, you know?"
"What's embarrassing?" Sam asked, confused.
Ashamed, I looked off back to Brooke, finding it harder to focus on my words so I moved to the water. "All of it. The note. Crowley. Brooke. Everything."
"Dean, you were a demon."
"Yeah, but even as a demon I knew what I felt for Brooke. I knew what I felt for you, and Cas. I knew what I was doing, but it was like I just... slumped back, left the wheel and let something else take over. I was tired man."
Sam was silent for a moment, "Then you thought you hurt Brooke."
A chill went up spine, causing my body to shake a little bit at the memory. "Yeah... Then it was like someone slapped me across the face and threw back into the front seat. I thought I had killed her and..."
I didn't know what else to say. I didn't want to say anything else.
Changing the subject a little, I took a swig of my beer after I said, "Not to mention, I never even said "thank you"" so..."
"You don't ever have to say that, not to me."
Nodding, I looked back out to see Brooke standing and coming back towards us. "Well... Good. Then I guess its all gravy."
Brooke approached us, smiling which caused me to smile back at her. "Don't tell me you two drank all the beer," She said, causing me to reach into the cooler next to us and hand her a cold beer. She took it, cracking it open before taking a swig.
I stretched my arm out, causing her to slide onto my lap and sit comfortable as she took another swig of beer.
"This is nice. I don't remember the last time I went to the beach," Brooke said, looking out at the water.
Wrapping my arm around her waist, I nodded in agreement as Sam held up his drink in a cheers motion before taking a swig. There was a small pause before Sam spoke up, "Maybe we should consider doing this more often."
I nodded in agreement, "Yeah."
"Why don't we grab something to eat? There's a bar just right up the road," Brooke said.
"I could go for a burger," I said, both of us looking at Sam.
"Sure."
With that, we grabbed our things and Brooke threw some appropriate clothes on before we climbed into the car and headed to the bar.
The sound of pool balls hitting each other and faint music that became background noise was heard as we grabbed a table and ordered our food. Sam picked up a paper as we entered, looking it over to see if there was anything out of the ordinary.
There was something that looked like a drought that raised Sam's eyebrow but I told him it was probable nothing to worry about. Maybe because I didn't want it to be anything. I wasn't ready for a case, not yet. I just wanted to enjoy this time off, enjoy my time with Brooke before my brain scares me away. Or her away.
"Man, I still think it's kind of strange that we haven't heard much from Cas," Sam said as I bit into my burger.
"Maybe he's respecting our time off. Besides, he has his grace back, he can take care of himself," Brooke said, making me nod with a mouthful. "And, he'd call if he found something."
Sam nodded, seeming to understand.
I jumped slightly when I felt Brooke's hand on my thigh, looking at me with a smirk. My mouth parted in shock, before I whipped my hands off on a napkin. "You know what, lunch is on me." I threw down some money before standing up quickly, Brooke doing the same.
"Where are you guys going?" Sam asked, eyeing us confused.
I eyed Sam and nodded towards Brooke, making Sam nod. "Oh, yeah, you guys have fun."
"Don't wait up, Sam!" Brooke yelled as I grabbed her waist, causing her to laugh as we hurried out of the bar. Luckily, there was a motel just down the road, causing me to pay for a room before hurrying inside with Brooke.
It wouldn't be a proper vacation without a little fun.
After about an hour or so, the faint sound of rain was heard outside as Brooke laid in my arms, both of us just starring up at the ceiling.
"Nice to know I'm still wanted," I said with a smile, causing Brooke to hit my chest.
"Always."
She laid her head back on my body, her hands tracing the indentures that made me, me. I watched her fingers dance around my body, seeming to hypnotize me.
"Can I be honest about something?"
"Of course," I said, my eyes still watching Brooke's motions.
"I love this. Not having anything important to do, just being us again. It's great, and defiantly well needed, but... I don't want to push you into anything you don't want to do-"
"Brooke," I said, moving to look down at her, causing her body to lift up so she could see my face fully.
"I miss Hunting. I miss the rush, the fight, all of it."
A sigh left my lips as I glanced away, "Yeah, I do too. It's just..."
"What is it, Dean?" Brooke asked softly, curious.
My head moved higher on the pillow and I slipped one of my arms behind my head. "I'm scared, Brooke. I'm scared I'll lose control, or that I'll bite off more than I can chew and something will happen. When I'm killing something, it takes me to a dark place. And you and Sam, the people who love me, you guys pull me back from that edge. And I guess I just don't want you to do that."
"Dean," Brooke said, sadness in her eyes.
"Now, the truth is... I'm past saving. I know how my story ends. It's at the edge of a blade or the barrel of a gun. But I don't want yours to end that way too. Not because of me."
"Dean," Brooke moved so she was fully sitting up, her hands going to my cheeks. "I love you, and every fight you have is my fight. Your story is mine. We're not married or anything like that yet, but I'm with you till death do us part. And then some. You just have to take a step back and stop worrying about Sam and me. We're Hunter's, we fight like there's no tomorrow, and we win. And when we don't, when our time is up, then we're going out swinging."
I loved this girl that was wrapped up in the sheets, holding me like I was the light at the end of her tunnel that she had been chasing and finally caught. And she was mine, she was the light at the end of my dark tunnel. She accepted every part of me, the good, the bad, all of it. And even when I beg her to leave, to run from this life because she deserves better, she stays. And I thank God, or whoever out there, every day that she's still here because I don't know what I'd do without her.
If I had a ring with me, I'd propose right now, something I never thought I'd do in my entire life. But, in my entire life, I never thought I'd feel this way for someone, or have someone feel this way towards me.
Moving in closer, I kissed Brooke, holding her in my arms.
"I love you so much, Brooklyn Myers."
Brooke smiled at me, "I love you too, Dean Winchester."
Short chapter, but it's in Dean's POV and I wanted a sweet one before we get back into hunting. Hope you liked it!
