01 | RECRUITMENT
SLEEP IS SOMETHINGthat is cherished by many. The one thing which helps people distance themselves from their problems even for a few hours. Samantha Stark was one of those people. One of those who cherish their sleep so deeply that will respect others too.
However, some people did not know that. To more specific, the young adult standing behind Samantha's door knocking endlessly. The young brunette inside the room was still charging the energy she had wasted the previous day when she went out with a group of heroic mutants to save the rest of human kind from the usual villains.
The young adult from the other side of the door knocked the door harder, and louder. When he heard the yell coming from inside he knew he had accomplished his mission. "Sam! Open the door! Is time to wake up!" Bobby Drake said from the other side of the door.
Samantha Stark opened her eyes with difficulty. "God, sleep. That is all I ask." The woman mumbled to herself.
"Sam! Professor X put you in charge of training today! We are waiting!" Bobby yelled.
Sam sighed, getting up from bed. With one eye still closed and her tangled hair still stuck to different angles, the woman opened the door to her mutant friend. "What do you want Bobby?" Sam asked him.
"Training starts in an hour." Bobby told her, pointing at his watch. "You got to eat and get yourself some coffee before training starts. You are leading the team and some young students today." Bobby told her, patting her shoulder.
The woman sighed, shaking her head. "Alright, give me ten minutes." Sam told him before closing the door again. "The things I do for family." She mumbled to herself, before walking to the bathroom. "I am nice and go to help out, but no, no sleep. Go and join the X-Men they say. Great. Go and save the world, they say. I do. But at what cost, no sleep?" Sam mumbled to herself as she started to get ready.

The woman walked down the impeccable halls of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Her boots clicked against the wooden floor as she walked, signaling her precense to the other students. She was of course recognized by many of them, and not because of her constants visits to the school; but because of her father.
At a young age the woman had been put on the spotlight by the media due to her name. Stark. The daughter of the billionaire playboy, Anthony 'Tony' Stark. The one person who many thoughts would not marry; but he eventually did with no other than Pepper Potts. Samantha Stark was a product of their love, something she held onto so dearly. Especially with the scandals that constantly surrounded her father; but she worked through them just like she did every single day before he became Iron Man.
However, there one thing that Tony Stark always tried to do; but his daughter away from the spotlight. There were two reasons. One being that he wanted for her to have her own live, to not be chased down or pressured by the media. The second, possibly the most important one, was that he did not want others to know about her gifts. The gifts she was born with.
Just like thousands of others, she was a mutant. One of the lucky one – who some people might called cursed – who were given powers. Powers which if not taught how to use properly, would cause complete chaos. Hers was not as deadly as others, but it was strong. At the mere age of 1 Pepper Potts had witnessed it herself. While looking after her daughter pink butterflies started to appear around the child as she played with her toys. Or the best one yet, which was when Tony tried to put her daughter to sleep and saw his daughter grew pink transparent wings and levitated up in the air. It was pretty clear: she was a mutant.
So when she hit the age of four, a man in a metal wheelchair arrived at the Stark's home telling them that their daughter had a gift, a powerful one. Tony Stark was very hesitant of leaving his little princess – his entire world – at the hands of some weird man in a wheelchair and another whose bright blue fur covered him entirely. Pepper on the other hand was tired of trying to reach her daughter who when got mad would hide at the top of the ceiling, in some cases even the roof. Tony being Tony got into a car with his daughter and went to the school himself.
It was known to few the true purpose of the private school 'Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters'. Even though in the outside it looked like a normal private school in upstate New York, it was actually a sanctuary for mutants, created by a mutant himself: Charles Xavier. Through some persuasion from Pepper and Xavier, Tony eventually gave in; well after a couple of years.
Sam was finally able to reach the kitchen. The woman was about to take out the cereal when somebody called her out. The brunette turned around just to see Storm putting down a plate on the table. "Come on, eat and seat. You got some training to do." Storm told her.
Sam smiled lightly at her, putting the cereal away. "What would I do without you, Ororo?" Sam asked her, using the woman's non-superhero name.
"Starve to death. That is what will happen." Ororo told her, walking away to go and get the woman a drink.
As Sam started to eat, her long time friend and protector stepped inside the kitchen with a sour look. "Children." He mumbled grumply before taking a seat opposite to Sam.
"You didn't seem to have that opinion when you met me." Sam reminded him, smiling lightly at the former X-Men. "What happened?" Sam asked him curiously.
"They almost burnt my motorcycle and myself. They were fooling around, breaking the rules." Logan answered.
"Not that you can burnt." Sam joked before taking a bite of her breakfast. Logan groaned in annoyance, silently replying to the joke.
It was decades ago when the two of them had met. Sam was six at the time and had seen Logan – or as others call him Wolverine – for the first time while he was fixing his own motorcycle. To her, he reminded her of her father who she had seen fix some of his own private projects. The girl had silently walked up to him and sat opposite to him as he worked, ignoring Logan's glare. It was save to say that over the course of a week the mutant had warmed up to the girl who seemed to be glued to his side.
The quiet breakfast was cut short by a person entering the room in a slight hurry. "What is it Summers?" Sam asked him, looking up to see her team mate followed by Kurt.
"There is somebody at the door for you." Scott Summers told Sam, who took her eyes off her breakfast to look up to him.
"Who was it?" Logan asked him.
"A man with an eyepatch he said that you will know him by that." Kurt told her. Sam looked up to him sighning.
"Nick Fury." Sam mumbled under her breath. She stood up from her seat taking one last drink from her drink before making her way out of the room.
"What does SHIELD want now?" Logan asked to himself, standing up to follow Sam. Both Kurt and Scott looked at each other, asking the same thing to themselves.
In the front door, waiting patiently stood a tall man with an eyepatch. He eyed his watch eargly, waiting for the woman who he needed the help from. It took shorter than he spected it. The brunette closed the door behind her, coming to face the director of the secret organization called SHIELD.
"Why are you here Fury?" Sam asked him tiredly. "It is not like you to come in and look for me. Normally it is somebody else." Sam added.
"Well, this time it is personal. I need you in at SHIELD as soon as possible." Fury told her.
Sam chuckled, shaking her head. "I'm going back to SHIELD. I saw that list you have Fury, not only you but so many more. I'm not joining you on your little scavenger hunt for mutant students." Sam told him.
"That's not what I'm here for. That project was shut down." Fury told her, pulling out a file. He pulled out a picture of someone Sam knew well. "Know this man?" Fury asked her.
"You don't know the names of your own agents. Funny." Sam joked, shaking her head. "Barton isn't here." Sam informed him.
"I know. He was off supervising a research SHIELD was carrying out. Sadly, it went south. That is why we need you back Stark. The safety of the world as we know it depends on it." Fury told Sam as he passed her a file.
The woman opened it up. "What problem do you need help with now Nick?" Sam asked him as she opened the file in her hands. She stiffened when she saw a picture of her father along with Hulk, a man with a hammer who she met thanks to Phil Coulson, Black Widow and herself. "What's this?" Sam asked him curiously.
"It is a project that your father tried to support a few years back. It's the Avenger's Initiative." Fury told her. "I don't need you to solve one of my problems Stark. I need you to save the earth. I have a god who stole the Tesseract and is controlling some of my best agents, including Barton." Fury told her.
At the mention of her old friend, Sam looked up to him. "So, what do you want us to do? Fight the man?" Sam asked him. Furry smirked at her before walking to his own car. "You didn't answer me, Fury." Sam called out.
"A car will be here to pick you up at one." Fury told her as he opened the door to his car. He sent one last look at the brunette before boarding the car.
