Green schools are not only environmentally friendly but also generate cost savings in the form of reduced water and energy usage. Unfortunately most of us take the view that being green is somebody else's responsibility. The responsibility for being green is shared among all of us. But rather than become overwhelmed with macro issues such as carbon footprints, why not just do some really simple things which can be very effective if only we all do them?

We can contribute to making our schools greener and can take easy-to-implement steps such as the following:

Firstly, plant more trees in your school yard. If there is a tree in your courtyard it creates around it an atmosphere of natural beauty and serenity. Trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen.

Secondly, don't throw away cans and bottles. Put them in the recycling containers your school has for that purpose. Remember to wash any bottles and cans that contained food or drink, as food residue can ruin an entire load of recyclable material.

Finally, make Your School Green by Preserving Resources. Turning the light off when you leave a room and making sure to only run the water when needed can make a big difference
