Chapter 4

Brooklyn

As night fell, Sam, Dean, Mrs. Tran, Kevin, and I found ourselves in front of a warehouse. If it wasn't for the man that answered the door, we would have thought the place was abandon.

A metal detector sat right in front of the door, along with two other men. Kevin, Sam and Mrs. Tran went first, followed by Dean who sounded off the metal detector.

Sighing, Dean turned and glared at Beau who walked up to him with a smile. "Now, now, Dean. The system only works when everyone participates."

Dean started to pull out weapons left and right, laying them in a small box before him. I watched from the other side of the metal detector and couldn't help but smile and roll my eyes at him. He never could follow the rules.

Dean pulls out the demon killing knife, holdin it up to Beau, "I'll be back for this," He said sternly before setting the knife into the box.

One of the men nod for me to go ahead through, making me smile as I walked through, only for it to fall when it went off for me.

Everyone looks at me, Beau smiling slightly before walking up to me, "Brooke. You won't need those things here."

Dang it, so close.

My eyes stay on Beau as I pull out a gun from behind me, laying it in his open hand before reaching into my bra and pulling out a pocket knife.

"Thank you," Beau nodded with a smile before laying the weapons in the box along with Dean's. He gestured through some double doors, nodding for us to go ahead.

Sam and Dean led the way, pushing open the doors to reveal tons of items on display in glass cases. Auction attendees looked at each item, some even gossiping about one item more than another to their friends.

"How the hell are we supposed to know who's who?" Dean asked as we slowly walked in, the three Hunters on guard out of habit.

"It's pretty simple, Dean. They're all monsters," Sam said with a fake smile as we continued to look.

Dean hit Sam's shoulder roughly, pointing over to a glass case. We made our way, each step bringing us closer to the item. The Word of God sat in the glass case, open to the world, minus the piece of metal that's been fixed in front of it so it couldn't be read.

"Great," I mumbled crossing my arms over my flannel shirt. My eyes looked to Sam and Dean, "Told you so,"

They both were silent, looking back at the Word of God with frustration. If Dean could, he'd just take a crowbar and run off. But the guards at each door, a building full of monsters, and the whole place run by a god made Dean try to think of something else.

"I guess we're not as original as we thought," Kevin said, looking defeated. Sam shook his head, looking at us, "It's okay. It's okay. We just got to come up with a plan B."

"And what, pray tell, could possibly have been plan A?" A voice said behind Sam, causing us to quickly look to see none other than Crowley. My body immediately tensed and my brain was already going into fight mode. "Bring the Prophet to the most dangerous place on Earth, memorize the tablet, and then vamoose?" He smiled and looked at before looking at the boys, "Hello Brooke, boys."

"Crowley," Dean whispered, anger in his voice. My eyes glanced over to him to find him in the same boat I was in, tensed body, and fighting eyes. Sam looked at Crowley mixed with shock and anger. While Kevin had the look of fear in his eyes. Mrs. Tran just looked surprised.

Crowley wasted no time already sticking needles and pins into the boy's broken heart, "Kevin. What a pleasure to see you. Sorry about your little playdate. Her name? Ah. Well, if you're gonna make an omelet, sometimes you have to break some spines."

His attention focused on Mrs. Tran, "And who is this lovely young thing? Must be your sister."

Before another word could be said, Mrs. Tran slapped Crowley hard across the face, causing his head to turn and a look of shock play in his mouth and eyes. My own eyes opened wide from shock, and my love for this women's bad ass attitude just went up.

"Stay away from my son."

Crowley, fixing himself up again, said, "Charming. Defiling her corpse has just made number one on my to-do list."

Dean quickly stepped forward, ready to fight which was all I needed to prepare to kick the shit out of this guy. Until, Sam moved and stopped Dean, also grabbing my arms as well to stop me.

Smiling, Crowley shook his head, "Unh, unh, unh. Don't mind a little love tap, but anything more, and our mookie pals here may just throw you out, and that would be a shame."

Shit, he had a point.

"He's right. It's not worth it," Sam said to Dean and I. My words came out quiet but still loud enough for Crowley to send a glare at me, "Half-way worth it."

Dean and I took a step back as Crowley looked to Dean, "Listen to Moose, Squirrel." Suddenly, a bald man entered the room, his outfit looking more like a track suit as Beau and a few other men followed him.

"Ah. Here comes our host," Crowley said with a smile.

The bald man spoke up, "Honored guests, please take your seats." He walked past everyone, headed for the double doors that sat on the other side of the room.

"That's Plutus? What is he, God of the candy aisle?" Dean asked, watching as everyone started to follow the men inside. Beau stopped in front of us, smiling as he said, "Gentlemen, ladies, the auction is starting."

Beau disappeared into the room, Crowley looking over at the five of us, "Good luck with the bidding."

Sam, Kevin, Mrs. Tran, Crowley, and I headed inside the auction room, Dean getting held up by a guy. Mrs. Tran was the first to take in the seat towards the back, followed by Kevin, me, empty seat, and Sam.

Sure enough, when Dean came back into the room, he took the seat in-between Sam and I. My eyes watched him confusingly, noticing his distant look in his eyes.

"Who was that?" I asked, referring to the man that stopped Dean back outside the room. Clearly he said something to upset Dean.

He looked ahead whispering, "And angle." His head turned and looked at me, his eyes meeting mine as he said, "Asking about Cas."

Oh. That's why Dean looked so distant.

After my question was answered, both Dean and I grew silent. I mean, what were we supposed to do? Talk about how Cas didn't make it through the portal and is probable dead now? Or maybe we can talk about why Cas left Dean before I showed up, saying that it was only to protect him when in reality, he was scared.

Beau stood in front of everyone, my eyes catching Crowley sitting on the left side of the room, taking the seat kitty-corner from Sam. The angle from before walked over and took the back row, sitting behind Kevin.

"Ladies, gentlemen, and other, welcome to this once-in-a-lifetime event."

Sam quickly pulled out his wallet, signaling for the rest of us to do the same. My hands reached into my back pocket, pulling out my wallet and searching through it for the money Sam had given me days ago.

A little over $300.

I hand my money to Dean, which triggered everyone else to do the same as Beau talked. "Our prices may be high, but our quality is unmatched, and we stand by our products."

Crowley leaned forward, saying to Sam, "Don't know why you're so keen on that hunk of dirt. So it tells you how to blast back a few demons? I'll just make more. Can't get rid of all of my black-eyed boys, Samantha."

Sam looked behind him at Crowley, "Yeah, we'll see."

My eyes glanced over my shoulder, glaring at Crowley who just sat back in his seat. My attention was pulled back to the group when Sam asked, "All right. So, how much we got for plan B?"

Dean looked at the money, "Uh, well, we got our hacked credit cards, $2,000, and a, uh, Costco membership." He looked to Mrs. Tran who shrugged in response, motioning for him to keep it with the money and credit cards.

Beau continued to speak, half of his sentences being unheard, "Out first item, the amulet of Hesperus. Let's start the bidding with, um, three tons of dwarven gold?"

Dean rose his eyebrows, looking to Sam while my head fell in my hands with a shake. We were screwed. In seconds, the price was higher than anything we could afford.

"Plan C?" Sam asked us.

"Our next lot, the Word of God," Beau said, grabbing our attention again. "Capital "G"; very old, very rare."

Crowley quickly stood up, "Three billion dollars."

Between Sam, Dean, and I, the word "whoa" was said simultaneously. How the hell did he get that kind of money? And where can I get some?

The angel from before stood up, saying, "The "Mona Lisa."" Crowley counteracted, "The real "Mona Lisa," where she's topless."

My eyes moved in a confused and disbelief look, looking back at Crowley in discus.

"Vatican City," The angel said, fighting against Crowley who's next offer was, "Alaska."

Even Beau smiled and shook his head, "Palin and a bridge to nowhere? No, thanks."

Crowley quickly tried to think of something, shrugging, "All right. The moon." Dean was the first to turn in his seat at the comment, Sam and I following as he asked, "You're bidding the moon?"

Shrugging, the demon said, "Yeah. Claimed it for Hell. Think a man named Buzz gets to go into space without making a deal?"

Beau shook his head, "Ah. I'm sorry, gentlemen. It seems that our reserve price has not been met. So in order to stimulate the bidding, we're going to add an item to this lot." He pointed over to Kevin, "Kevin Tran, Prophet of the Lord."

Mrs. Tran gasped and quickly rose to her feet as Kevin disappeared and appeared near Plutus, chained to his chair. Dean and Sam quickly stood only for the two men that followed Beau and Plutus in here to set a hand on their shoulders and force them back down.

Beau continued on, as if he wasn't just breaking a women's heart next to me, "Mr. Tran is the only person on Earth who can read this tablet, which makes them a perfect matching set. So, do I hear a bid of-"

"No, stop!" Mrs. Tran yelled, causing Beau to stop and everyone to look at her, "I'll give you whatever you want. I have a 401(K), my house."

Plutus only chuckled as Beau smiled and said, "Good effort, Ms. Tran, but I'm afraid this is a little out of your price range."

Mrs. Tran tried to think of something, until the two worst words slipped out of her mouth, "My soul." All of us looked at her shocked as she nodded and said, "I bid my soul!"

"Are you sure? That's a big move," I said, placing a hand lightly on her arm in hopes it would calm her down a bit so she could see what she was doing. She only tore her arm away from me, her fearful but determined look staying on Beau, Plutus, and Kevin.

Plutus smiled, nodding, "Interesting. But not enough."

A sigh left my lips as I looked at the ground. This man would want souls, anyone would. But my own soul was not up for sale, which only left one option. The worst option in my case.

My hands grabbed the empty seat in front of me, pulling me up to my feet as I said, "My brother's soul." Dean's head quickly whipped over to look at me. "My name is Brooke Myers, and I'm offering my brother's soul along with Mrs. Trans."

Dean quickly leaned forward, whispering in a quick voice, "Brooke, don't do this."

"Shut up, Dean," I whispered back to him, my eyes on the three men on the stage. My hands gripped the chair before me as my mind recalled the day I told Dean about my brother.

Flashback

Once again, I was tied to the same posts that I had grown familiar with. Dean, just like always, sat on a stool in front of me, his hands playing with a knife.

"Okay, what about you? Any siblings?" Dean asked, looking down at his knife before looking up at me.

I nodded, "I had an older brother. He never was a Hunter. I mean, he would help me out on a few cases but he hated the Hunter life. But the Hunter life loved him. And so did Demons. He wasn't careful, he didn't listen to my warnings and got possessed. The demon inside of him, killed him almost instantly. Somehow, when the demon left his body, I was able to get his soul. Maybe it was an angle that helped me, or just peer luck. But either way, my brother's soul is in a small container in a storage unit. Safe until I can find a way to bring him back."

Dean looked at me with sadness. Not only was my mom killed by a demon possession, but also my brother. This seemed to make Dean silent, afraid to ask any other questions about my family in fears of what my answer would be.

End of Flashback

Crowley's voice brought me back to reality, "If it's souls that you're after, I can give you a million souls."

Plutus looked over to Crowley, leaning forward, "It's not about the quantity, chief. It's about the sacrifice. This lady's soul is the most valuable thing she has. It's everything. And this young lady's brother's soul is the only thing she has left of her family. Are you willing to offer everything as well, Mr. Crowley?"

He paused, clearly trying to come up with something. When he thought of it, he faced Plutus with a determined look, "Fine. You win. I bid, my own soul!"

Plutus laughed right out loud at Crowley's words, embarrassing him, "Mr. Crowley, you don't have a soul." If I wasn't offering my brother's soul up, I would have laughed at Plutus words. But right now, I was a statue, waiting to hear if both Mrs. Tran and my's offers would be accepted.

Looking to us, the god himself said with a nod and smile, "Congrats, ladies."

Mrs. Tran let out a sigh of relief as she thanked the man a hundred times. I wasn't as happy, my head and eyes moved to look down at the ground, my hands still gripping the chair in front of me.

What did I just do?

"Brooke," Dean started, standing up next to me. But I pushed passed him and Sam, making my way out the door. I slammed the door shut behind me as I left the building all together.

My breathe started to pick up once it hit the dark, open air, my hands running through my long hair as I felt myself want to cry. But before a tear could fall, I sucked in a breath and shook my body in hopes of calming myself down, "Rose. Rose, I need you to do something for me."

Instantly, Rose appeared before me, her face holding no emotions, "Yes Brooke?"

"I need you to get my brother's soul," I said, my head looking off to the ground. I thought she would have asked why or made any comment. But not even 30 seconds later, she was standing in front of me with a small container.

The container that held my brother's soul.

"Brooklyn," Rose said, causing me to look up at her, "I am sorry." Though she said the words, it didn't seem to comfort me.

Pushing my feelings deep down inside for the sake of the world, I headed back inside the warehouse. People left and right were leaving, most happy with their claim while others seemed disappointed. They followed Plutus to collect their items while I headed in the opposite direction.

I found the boys and Kevin's mom in the auction room. Sam sat in the chairs with Mrs. Tran, discussing what was going to happen. Dean, at the sight of me, stopped his pacing and walked over to me, pulling me to the side.

"Brooke you don't have to do this?" he quickly said.

I couldn't help but smile at Dean's comment. "Yes I do, Dean."

"No you don't. We'll find something else to offer," He said, clearly not wanting me to give up my brother's soul. He knew how much it meant to me, and didn't want me to lose it.

Shrugging, I asked Dean, "Like what?" Just as I figured, Dean was silent, clearly not having any ideas at the moment. I found myself taking one of Dean's hands, making him look down it before looking back up at me, "Dean, its okay. My brother died years ago. I kept his soul, because I thought I could bring him back. But the truth is, even if I could, he would never be the same."

Dean looked back down at our hands, sadness in his eyes and voice as he said, "But he's everything to you."

Shrugging and smiling, "Everyone thought I was dead years ago anyways. I lost everything then."

Looking up at me surprised, Dean's mouth opened to speak only for him to shut his mouth when Beau opened the door and walked in, "It's time."

Mrs. Tran looked at Sam, Dean, and I before asking all of us, "Can I have a minute?" We all nodded, making our way to the door while Beau closed it behind us, staying in the room to talk to Mrs. Tran.

"How is she doing?" I asked Sam, who put his hands on his hips and sighed, "Alright. She'll strong, she'll be okay. How are you doing?" I shrugged, my eyes looking at the small container in my hand. Sam didn't know anything except that this was my brother's soul. And that's all he needed to know to know how painful this was for me.

He had a brother, and if he lost Dean, carried, his soul with him, only to lose it. It would hurt him too.

A minute later and Mrs. Tran walked out, Beau right behind her as she took a deep breath. "Okay, let's do this," Mrs. Tran said to us, nodding to us to go ahead of her. Dean, Sam, and I looked at each other for a minute before we followed Beau down one of the hallways.

Plutus' office sat off the one hallway, it completely empty minus two men and Plutus. Immediately we walked in and Dean asked, "Where's the kid?"

With one snap of Plutus' fingers, Kevin appeared, his chains now gone.

Sam asked the question that I was dreaded to ask. Not because I didn't want to know, but because I was scared of what the answer would be. "What are you gonna do with their souls?"

Plutus shrugged, "Whatever I want. I might sell them, or maybe I'll just tuck them away with my other precious objects, let them keep me warm at night." A chuckle left his lips as a chill goes up my back. The thought of given this man my brother's soul just turned my stomach even more.

When Plutus looked at me, giving me a small nod, I couldn't help but suck in any courage I had left. Slowly my legs moved to in front of Plutus, my hand dropping the container into his hand. He admired it for a minute with a smile before handing it over to one of the men.

My feet moved back as he turned to Mrs. Tran. He held out his hands with an excited smile, "Whenever you're ready, dear."

Mrs. Tran, wanting to just get it over with, held out her hands and stepped forward.

"Wait!" Dean yelled and quickly grabbed Mrs. Tran's arm. He pushed up her sleeve, revealing that her demon-proofing tattoo had been burned off. Sam and I looked at Mrs. Tran just as her eyes turned black and an evil smile crept on her face.

"Hello, boys," Mrs. Tran said, but her voice was taken by Crowley, bringing chills up my back.

With one fling of the arm, Crowley swung Dean, Sam, and I away from her and into the walls and table. My back collided with the table behind me, my body falling to the ground with a loud thud.

"No. You can't. My warding spells," Plutus quickly said, proving that he had no idea what was going on. But that didn't mean Beau didn't. With one stab, Beau shoved a stake through Plutus' heart, killing him instantly.

Mrs. Tran, or Crowley, grabbed the stake and tore it through Plutus' heart before throwing it at the man that was guarding Kevin, killing him instantly.

My hands helped me pick my body up, my eyes noticing the box that Dean and I sat our weapons in. Quickly, I grabbed the box, opening it and grabbing the demon-killing knife. As my eyes looked up, I noticed Mrs. Tran, or Crowley, picking up the Word of God.

"Get out of her!" Kevin yelled as Dean, Sam, and I moved to our feet.

"If I had a nickel for every time someone screamed that at me-" Mrs. Tran started with smirk. Before she could finish, Sam tackled her to the ground. Dean moved to stand in front of Kevin while I stayed off to the side, the knife held tightly in my hand.

Sam quickly stood up, standing next to Dean as Mrs. Tran stood up, pushing her hair out of her face.

Even in a horrible situation like this, Dean couldn't hold back a comment towards Crowley, "Getting in touch with your feminine side, huh, Crowley?"

"Something like that."

"Well, come and get him," Dean said, nodding for Mrs. Tran to come towards them, get through them, and get Kevin. But, before Mrs. Tran could take a step forward, I quickly grabbed her and held the demon killing knife up to her back.

I wasn't plaining on killing her, but scaring her out was a thought. "If you don't want this to be your last hodo ride, I suggest you get out of her now."

Looking behind Sam and Dean at Kevin, Mrs. Tran let out a sigh before swinging her head back at me, hitting my forehead to the point that I stumbled back and dropped the knife.

Mrs. Tran held her own head with one hand while the other held the Word of God. She quickly moved out of the room, running past me.

"Watch the kid!" Dean yelled to Sam as he swiped up the knife. I quickly pulled myself together as Dean placed a hand on my arm, already heading for the door, "Let's go Brooke!"

Mrs. Tran ran down the hallways, Dean and I catching up behind her. Dean was the first to catch up to her, pushing her up against the wall which made the Word of God slide across the floor. As I run to grab it, Dean pushed the knife up to Mrs. Tran's throat.

"Mom!" Kevin yelled, causing Dean to look over his shoulder to find Kevin no longer with Sam. Using this to Crowley's advantage, Mrs. Tran pushed Dean away.

Seconds later and Mrs. Tran's head looked up towards the ceiling, red smoke pouring out of her mouth. It flew through the air so gracefully that you'd never guess it was a demon. But, when the smoke crawled under the door near me and Crowley walked out, you knew it was no angel.

Crowley brushed off his coat before looking next to him, at me. A "crap" word was about to leave my lips when he flung his arm and my body flew backwards. My hand dropped the Word of God, my back colliding with the wall behind me.

I figured I would just drop to the ground, but when I felt the pressure around my neck I realized I wasn't just being thrown, I was being choked.

"Brooke!" Dean yelled, his face immediately turning red with anger as he looked at Crowley. Kevin ran to his mother who had collapsed to the ground, Dean standing in front of them.

With a smile and a shrug, Crowley said, "Well, that was exciting. Good luck closing the gates to Hell without this," He said, picking up the Word of God. His attention moved to Kevin, "I know we're not mates, Kevin, but one word of advice. Run. Run far and run fast. 'Cause the Winchesters; they have a habit of using people up and watching them die bloody. Toodles."

Crowley vanished and the pressure around my neck ceased, causing my body to drop to the ground. My lungs gasped for air as Dean ran over, "Brooke, are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," I said, taking Dean's hand as he helped me up.

I froze when I saw Kevin looking at his mom, sadness in his eyes. She just stared off, a look like she saw a ghost holding on her face. "Get her into the auction room, I'll be right back."

Dean looked at me confused as I headed for the door, almost bumping into Sam. He looked at me just as confused as Dean was, but I ignored them both and headed down the dark hallway.

There was only one thing on my mind in that moment now that Crowley had the Word of God. My brother's soul.

When I walked back into Plutus' office, the dead bodies didn't bother me, what bothered me was the broken glass container on the ground. The same container that held my brother's soul.

My hand picked up the empty container, a sigh leaving my lips as I closed my eyes. I threw the container at the wall, the broken piece shattering even more.

I just lost my brother's soul, for nothing.

Composing myself, I headed to the action room. When I walked in, Kevin was sitting in front of his ghostly pale mother while Dean and Sam watched them.

"Has she said anything?" I asked anyone that was whiling to answer. No one said anything, but Kevin shook his head, his eyes still looking at his mother.

Dean let out a sigh, "Listen, Kev, what your mom went through, it's hell. Trust me, I know. But she seems tough. She'll pull it together."

Kevin's voice was low, almost unheard, "You tried to kill her."

"Kid, in this life-" Dean started, taking a step towards him in hopes he'd understand. But he froze and shut his mouth when Kevin yelled, "Shut up!" His feet rose, looking at Dean through angry tears, "I don't want to hear any more of your crappy speeches. I just want to talk to my mom alone."

Sam nodded, "Sure. Five minutes."

Dean was hesitant to leave but listened to the kid, joining Sam and I out of the room. We all lean against the glass cases, our arms crossed or in our pockets as we waited.

"Brooke, did you find-" Dean started, but I stopped him, already predicting what he was going to ask. "No, he's gone," I said, my eyes looking at the ground.

Sam looked over at me, placing a hand on my shoulder, "I'm sorry." This action made me look at him, giving him a reassuring smile before nodding to him.

My head turned and looked at the closed doors, my ears trying to listen in only to hear nothing. "It seem a little quiet in there to you?" I asked Dean and Sam. They both paused and listened, not hearing anything either.

Sam was the first to open the door and walk into the room, "Kevin? Kevin!"

Dean and I quickly hurried in, noticing that Kevin and his mother were gone. "You've got to be kidding me!" Dean yelled, kicking a nearby chair in frustration.

My eyes looked at the two empty chairs, noticing that they weren't as empty as we thought. A note laid on the one chair, "Hey," I said, picking up the note and looking at Sam and Dean who turned to look at me.

Quickly, Dean walked over and took the note, opening it to read.

"What's it say?" Sam asked, both of our eyes on Dean as he scanned over the note. He seemed upset, sad almost, "Uh, that they bolted, that we shouldn't come looking, and since we lost the tablet, Kevin figures we don't need him."

"Yeah, but Crowley still does. What's that kid thinking?!" Sam asked in disbelief.

My eyes looked at Dean who still stared at the note. What Dean said, broke my heart.

"He thinks people I don't need anymore; they end up dead," Dean said, lowering the note.

Quickly I shook my head, "Dean, that's not true. You know that," I said, but I didn't get another word from Dean. He was just silent, as he starred at the ground, clearly believing Kevin's note over me.
