Sweet lies, no need to cry
Sugar coated words are different from genuine feelings. But can you really tell the difference?
As much as you want to see the truth, unleash the light,
sometimes you are drown by your own thoughts and assumptions about the matter.
How many times have you been haunted by people's non-existent distaste, expecting the worst case scenario simply for being ghosted? How many times have you mistaken someone's light comment as an offense? How many times have you misjudged a person with the words they use, or underestimated something you blurted out, simply saying without thinking?
With social medias and constantly-changing trends to keep up with, people seem to find themselves more and more unable to relate their words with their own thoughts and feelings anymore. Maybe it's due to the mental and emotional imbalance, or maybe these people are simply going on the wrong track, subconsciously masking themselves with assumptions.
What could be described as "genuine", anyways? The feelings and ideas you have while in a completely undisturbed state? If so, are prejudices genuine opinions, if they are solely made of rumors and false assumptions?
Self-help books advise that you don't need to care about what others think, as long as you view yourself worthy and keep striving to be the best version of yourself. Realistic people say they don't care about others' assumptions, because they are too busy to mind such minor things, while the so-called judgmental people may as well have too much on their minds to even think about anyone, let alone judge their personalities and actions.
But I say that you don't need to mind one's feelings and thoughts about you, because at the end of the day, whether those presumptions and feelings towards you are true or not is left to be decided by you. What if someone compliments your intelligence only because they pity your physical health? What if someone snaps that you're stupid only because they're seeing red? As long as you believe what they say is true, it becomes the truth to you. Your truth.
It may not completely be the case that you don't care about anyone's thoughts at all, but rather, view something as true or not to your advantage. They say you're a sweetheart when you only lent a pen to them? Stop worrying about whether or not they're saying it out of politeness, and decide for yourself if you truly are cute. Someone tries to butter you up to get on your good side? Stop distressing about your self-worth because of their hidden motives. They may have something up on their sleeves, but that doesn't define what they've been telling you, whether it is a complete lie or a genuine comment.
After all, if what makes determines our mood and viewpoint is our beliefs about others' thoughts towards us, why care about others' beliefs and unspoken thoughts from the beginning?
