also PusheenLyfe you're going to get your slap in the next chapter too
When I get to seventh period the next day, Lee isn't there—and I'm grateful, because I have a feeling that the second I make eye contact, he will bring up the kiss that happened yesterday.
Of course, not making eye contact is going to be kind of difficult, all things considered.
As soon as the thought enters my head, of course Lee walks in the door, a faint smirk on his face. He manages to not look at me as he sits down next to me, in between Tyler and I.
I can practically feel myself blushing.
We sit and wait for the bell to ring as normal, and I'm almost able to forget about it, at least until he elbows me in the ribcage.
"Ow," I groan, looking over at him before I can stop myself. He's grinning. He got me to look at him.
He won.
I open my mouth to speak, but he interrupts me. "So," he says. "Did you have fun yesterday?"
"Shhh," I hiss. "Tyler might hear you."
"Yeah, and?" Lee asks, still smirking. "Tyler knowing one little secret wouldn't hurt. Besides... I'm sure you liked it."
"Hmmm." That's a little closer to the truth than I would have liked it to be.
"Shhh," I hiss again. "Tyler can know, but the last people who need to know are Alex and Glory—they would never let me hear the end of it."
"Maybe I want them to..." Lee whispers, smirking harder. He reaches beneath the table with his hand and gently rests it on mine, which is in my lap.
What is he doing?
Wait.
Is he stroking my hand?
He was. I could feel his fingers running smoothly over my palm, and it almost made me smile—no, what am I thinking? He knows what he's doing to me.
But why is he doing it?
My smile soon went away, however, and Lee jerked back his hand. Because there was someone standing in the doorway.
And that someone was Troy.
Troy opens the door wordlessly and stalks over to where Lee is sitting. He glances briefly at me, before turning his icy gray gaze back to Lee.
"So, you've got Virgo sitting in my spot. That's nice, Cancer, real nice." He's glaring harder, but there's something about that glare of his that looks off.
That looks... fake.
I must just be imagining it, it must just be me trying to see the good in people—of course they're mad at each other, what am I thinking? Why wouldn't they be mad? Why would they have a reason to pretend?
It has to be real.
"Don't look at me like that, Troy," Lee spits. "It was O'Carthy who put her here, not anyone else."
Ms. O'Carthy sighs. "Lee, I would prefer it if you would call me Ms. O'Carthy, but you have a point. Mr. Singleton, why don't you go and sit down now?"
Troy huffs and storms off to the back of the room. But as he goes, I catch him. One of his eyelids flicks down for a second. He's winking.
He's winking at Tyler.
There's no way. He would never just wink at Tyler. I must have imagined that! There's no way he was winking! They're supposed to hate each other now!
I must have imagined it. I must have.
As Troy storms back to his seat, or, should I say, my old seat, Lee nudges me and smiles. I guess the prank is still on. I guess we're still following Lee's plan.
That's never a good thing, but what choice do I really have? At this point, following Lee's plan is the best option we have.
Even if it does mean antagonizing the enemy.
Ms. O'Carthy shuts the door behind Troy and gives the class a stern look. "So, we should at least halfway finished with our T-shirt designs, right?"
The class mumbles their answers, clearly this isn't true for most of them.
She glares at us. "You people aren't sixth graders anymore, you should know what you're doing. You're an AP class, too."
"If you just let us do our thing, Ms. O'Carthy, maybe we'll finish today," Lee says sweetly, batting his eyelashes.
Ms. O'Carthy snorts, and is about to reply when Mr. Gordon walks in. She immediately turns her head to look at him.
"What is it?" she asks, blinking in his direction. He makes a gruff noise.
"One of my students seems to have written you a note, and I want you to come and read it. It's in my room," he told her huskily.
Ms. O'Carthy rolls her eyes. "Well why didn't you memorize it?"
"It was at least a page long," Mr. Gordon snaps. "And some of the words don't need to be repeated..." he trailed off. "Just follow me."
Sighing, Ms. O'Carthy follows Mr. Gordon out of the room and shuts the door. As soon as she does, Lee stands up.
Everything's going according to plan.
"Troy," he says loudly, pushing his chair to the side and standing up in the middle of the room. A few people look up, but Troy acts like he's perfectly ignoring him.
"Troy," Lee repeats, and finally he looks up, his silver-blonde bangs falling into his face. Lee smirks.
"I know you've been distracted recently," he says, grinning. "With that little crush of yours."
Troy stands up immediately, his icy gray eyes glittering. "What did you say to me, Cancer?" for a second, I almost catch him smirking.
But there's no way he would be smirking.
"You heard me the first time, Singleton," Lee spits. He's smiling wide... he must be having fun with this. "You've been a little preoccupied, haven't you?"
Troy narrows his blue-gray eyes into slits. "Say it, Cancer. Say it. I dare you." He's almost grinning. Almost.
"Fine." Lee smirks. I glance at Glory: her hazel eyes are wide with fear and she's clenching her fists. She's guessed that Lee is going to reveal her and Troy's secret.
It was a nice guess, Glory.
Lee has the attention of the entire class by now. Every single person is looking at him. He knows it. He likes the attention.
"Yes, Troy. I'm going to tell the entire class about your crush—"
"What's it gonna do?" Troy sneers
"—on Alex," Lee finishes, and he sits back down with a proud smirk. Troy, Glory, and Alex most of all... they all have the same reaction.
"What?!"
