Chapter 5
Chapter 5
The next morning, when Scott and I got up, Melissa was already awake and fixing breakfast.
"Thanks again for letting me stay here last night," I said to Melissa as I put a fork full of pancake in my mouth.
"Of course. Your Aunt did want me to tell you that she should be home in a couple of hours. Your more than welcome to stay here until she's home. Scott has to go to work and I'm going to bed so the house is yours."
"Thank you," I said as Melissa nodded before kissing the top of Scott's head and heading upstairs to her room.
Scott picked up his empty plate, putting it in the sink before putting on his shoes. I didn't realize how distant I was until Scott said my names a few times.
"Luna."
"Huh?" I said, meeting Scott's eyes.
He sighed before smiling slightly, "Want to come to work with me? I work at an Animal Clinic. Deaton, my boss, knows all about supernatural creatures, you two would get along."
Honestly, I was relieved that he offered. I felt safe with Scott, and though his home was probable one of the safest places I could be in, I didn't want to be alone.
"I'd like that, if that's okay," I said, holding back my excitement. Scott didn't though as he smiled wide and nodded, "Great. I'll be leaving here in about fifteen minutes."
I nodded, shoving the last bit of food in my mouth before heading to the bathroom. Melissa had sat out some extra bathroom supplies for me which I was grateful for. Ounce I was back into my clothes and ready for the day, I followed Scott outside and to his bike.
As my arms wrapped around his body, holding onto him as we drove, I couldn't help but feel all my stress, tension, and fear leave me. It was as if he was taking it all from me, making me feel safer than I ever had before.
After last night's kiss, I couldn't stop from feeling a pull to Scott, even stronger than before. It confused me yet intrigued me just as much.
When we pulled up to the animal clinic, Scott and I climbed off the bike and headed inside. A bald headed, black man with a small mustache and short scruff of a beard stood in the waiting room, looking over at some papers.
"Hey, Deaton, I want you to meet Luna," Scott said, causing the man to look up at me and smile.
"Luna, it's nice to meet you. I've heard a lot about you. All good things," He said, making me smile.
"It's nice to meet you too. I hope Scott doesn't give you too much trouble?"
Deaton chuckle, glancing at Scott, "No, just the right amount. Though he does make my life interesting to say the least."
Scott rubbed the back of his neck nervously, "Uh, yeah. So is it okay if Luna hangs out here with us for a bit? There's some other werewolves causing trouble and..." He didn't know what to say, looking at me as if he wanted confirmation.
Nodding his head, Deaton didn't need to hear anymore, "That's alright. Luna, you are more than welcome to stay here. Actually, if you want to help me with a few things, I'd appreciate it. I'd pay you of course."
"Sure. I don't know how much help I'd be, but I'm up for learning anything," I shrugged. I'd never been at an animal clinic before let alone help work in one. I didn't even know where to begin with looking at an animal.
"I'm sure you'll be fine. Scott if you want to get everything out and ready, our first patient will arrive soon."
Scott nodded, heading into the clinical room. Deaton looked at me, "Luna, could you help me put some extra supplies away?"
"Sure," I nodded, following Deaton down a small hallway and into a storage room. A couple of boxes sat in front of a shelving unit, waiting to be unpacked. Deaton opened up the first back while I opened the second, both of us putting supplies away in its proper place.
"So, you're a werewolf?" Deaton asked. It caught me off guard, but remembered Scott saying Deaton knew all about us and other supernatural creatures.
I nodded, "Yeah, for abought three years. I knew about them before, in fact my Aunt has a whole library full of supernatural books."
Deaton chuckled, "I'm jealous. Scott said you're having some werewolf problems, is everything alright?"
A sigh left my lips, the word coming out in a mumble, "Hopefully."
There was a small glance from Deaton before he returned to stocking. Scott poked his head in the room, grabbing his boss' attention, "Dr. Deaton, Marissa's here with Charlie."
"Alright, I'll be there in a minute," Deaton nodded before looking at me. "Finish stocking everything and then if you could put the files on my desk in alphabetical order and in the tan cabinet, I'd appreciate it. I asked Scott to do it, but he's been a little side tract it seemed."
When Deaton left, I wondered if I was the cause of Scott's distraction. He defiantly has been the cause of mine.
I did as told, finishing unpacking the boxes before filing everything in the cabinet. Ounce I was finished, I headed back down the hallway and poked my head into the clinical room. Deaton and Scott were working on a dog who needed a few shots.
Scott looked up, as if he sensed I was standing there and smiled. He nodded with his head to come on in before looking back at the dog.
I walked over to Scott, standing next to him as he held the dog down. Deaton went to put the needle in the dog only to have him yip and try to break away.
My hand went to the dog's head, lightly petting him with my fingers as I whispered to the dog. He calmed, letting Deaton give him his shots and making Scott look at me with a smile that I returned.
"Good boy," I said, causing him to sit up and give me a kiss.
"He's all set," Deaton said.
Scott handed me the leash and I led the dog off the table and to his owner. Deaton followed, checking the lady out while Scott walked up to me. "That was amazing, what you did with the dog."
"My mom used to say I had a connection with animals. Who would have thought it'd come in handy," I said, glancing at the dog. "I'm going to head home, check in with my Aunt, but do you maybe want to go for a run tonight? I haven't had a good run in a while."
Scott nodded, "Yeah that sounds like fun. I'll be there around six?"
"Perfect, I'll see you then," I smiled. Without a thought, I leaned up, kissing Scott's cheek before leaving. It wasn't until I was outside did I realize what I had done.
I thought of going in and explaining myself, but how could I explaining something I didn't even know about?
Shaking the thought out of my head, I made the walk back home. It was refreshing to just walk for a bit. For a moment I thought of Lucas and if he was out there, watching me, but I pushed the thought away. That's what he wants, to scare me.
Ounce I arrived home, I walked in to find my Aunt quickly looking away from some books that sat on the kitchen table. She stood up, rushing over to me and wrapping me in a hug. "Luna, thank God you're okay."
"I'm fine, Aunt Kathy. Physically anyways."
My Aunt pulled away, letting out a sigh, "What happened? How could Lucas have found us?"
"I don't know. I've been wondering the same thing," I said, sitting at the table. My Aunt pushed the books she was reading aside, out of sight, and sat next to me. "Scott knows, about Lucas and the pack."
Aunt Kathy was surprised seeing as she, like me, thought I'd never speak of Lucas.
"How much does he know?"
"Enough to understand my fear," I said, leaning back in the chair.
"You know I have no doubt in my mind that you're right, but, how sure are you that this is Lucas? I mean, maybe it's one of the other pack members."
With a sigh, I pulled out my phone, pulling up the pictures that Lucas had taken and sent to me from his phone. I showed them to my Aunt, making her mouth part in shock. She closed her eyes, letting out a sigh as she sat the phone down. "So, what do you want to do? We can have everything packed and ready to go by tomorrow night if you want."
Quickly I shook my head, standing up, "No, I'm not leaving Scott." I stopped when I realized how defensive I sounded and sat back down to calm myself down. "I mean... I don't want to leave this town. For the first time I feel... safe, happy, even loved. Lucas and Deucalion have controlled me and my life for too long now, I won't let them destroy this."
My Aunt looked at me sympathetic at first before standing up and putting her hands on my arms. "Okay, we'll stay. But we have to figure out a plan. Yes, that's Lucas' phone but that doesn't mean it's him. Besides, he hasn't shown himself yet which means we have time."
"Time for what?"
"To come up with a plan. To get help."
I nodded, "Well, we have Scott and his pack. And his boss, Deacon, knows a lot about the supernatural world and werewolves. You two would get along perfectly, actually. I can ask Scott if he knows anyone else that could help us. He and I are going for a run tonight."
"Are you sure that's a good idea?"
"I'm safer with him than anyone," I said.
My Aunt nodded before I walked passed her and to the cupboard. I grabbed a granola bar, ready to head to my room only to stop. I debated something in my head for a moment before I turned to my Aunt.
"He kissed me," I said, causing my Aunt to quickly look at me, slightly taken back. "And I kissed him back."
"Oh... How... How was it?" Aunt Kathy asked, not sure what to say.
A chuckle left my lips, "Honestly? The best kiss I ever had. It came... natural in a way. I didn't want to leave. I'm going to clean up my room and change before Scott comes over."
"Okay," My Aunt said, her eyes glancing at the books on the table before I headed to my room.
The glass from before was picked up but my window was still broken. I ran out to the garage and used an old board to patch it up so nothing or no one would come in.
I changed into some work-out clothes before snacking until I heard Scott's bike pull up.
Scott knocked on the door, my Aunt answering it while I slipped on my shoes.
"Hey, you ready?" Scott asked, a pair of shorts and a black shirt covering him.
"Yeah."
"You two be careful. I have a few errands I want to run, but I'll be home before ten."
I nodded before stepping outside while Scott waved a goodbye to my Aunt. We both walked across the street and to the woods that I had originally walked in when I first got here.
At first, we jogged for a few minutes before slowing to a normal walk.
"So, uh, I hope you don't mind but I told Stiles about Lucas and the pack. He was on edge about you and I just wanted to calm him down."
A small chuckled left my lips, "Did it work?"
"Uh, I think it helped," Scott said as he rubbed the back of his neck with a laugh.
I nodded, my eyes looking down at the ground as I spoke. "Actually, I'm glad you did. I need some help. Lucas and the pack have been chasing me for years. My Aunt and I would find a place only to run again when we hear he's found me. But, I'm tired of running. I don't want to leave you, Lydia, Malia, even Stiles. This town, it feels like home. I'm not saying you have to fight side by side with me, I just... need some help."
Scott stopped, making me stop too.
"Hey, I'm here, we're here if you need us. I know a guy, Chris Argent, he's a hunter, he could help. And Derek Hale's a werewolf, taught me everything I know actually. I'm sure he'd help out too."
"Scott, you don't have to do all of that."
"I want too," Scott said, taking my hand. Both of our eyes looked down at our hands that seemed to send electricity through both of us.
My eyes followed Scott's as we looked at each other. For a moment, I thought he'd kiss me or even that I would kiss him, but both of us tore away from each other with blushes.
"Race you to the pine tree?" Scott asked, pointing to the same tree we had raced too when we first met.
I smiled, nodding, "No going easy on me."
"Will do," Scott said.
Both of us readied ourselves before breaking into a run. My eyes focused on the tree, only glancing at Scott every now and then. I noticed I was speeding up, passing Scott with a laugh.
"I thought I said not to go easy!" I yelled behind me.
My hand reached out to touch the tree, only to feel this pain on my side like someone had ramped into me. No one was there, causing me to stop just before I touched the tree. I felt pain before I felt fear, making any smile on my face vanish.
Slowly I looked over my shoulder before turning fully to see Lucas standing behind me. My heart sped up and my mouth went dry with words. I worried where Scott was, but I couldn't tar my eyes away to see.
"Hello Luna. My little monster."
Suddenly, Scott ran over, ramming himself into Lucas and throwing him to the ground. His claws were out and his face revealed his werewolf look. He roared at Lucas with anger.
In any day, I would have put my money on Scott, but in this moment, knowing the tricks Lucas had, I wouldn't dare make that choice.
Seeing the scene before me knocked me back to my senses.
"Scott, run!" He looked at me, causing me to yell again, "Run, Scott! Run!"
Both of us broke into a heart pumping run, never dare looking back. We raced through the woods, both of our speeds matching each other.
We suddenly burst through the tree line of the woods, popping out at the road. Headlights lit us up as the car in front of us screeched to a stop. Scott put his arm out protectively as we came to a stop.
Stiles poked his head out of his jeep, motioning with his hand, "What is this, date night? Get in!"
"Come on," Scott said, putting his hand on my back and pushing me to get into the jeep. I climbed into the back while Scott went to the passenger seat. Stiles screeched his tires as he quickly drove away.
"What the hell is going on?"
"It's Lucas, he's found me. He chased us in the woods," I said, my hands shaking a little.
Scott reached back, taking my hand and making me look at him. "It's okay." He released my hand, making me miss the fullness it gave me. "Can you drop us off at my house?"
Stiles shrugged, "Yeah, I guess. But what am I supposed to do?"
"Drive to the animal clinic, Deaton should be there. Lucas should follow you, but if not then that's the safest place to be."
I hoped he was right for Stiles' sake. Us against Lucas is hard enough, a human against him wouldn't survive two minutes.
We pulled up to Scott's house, Scott and I quickly climbing out before Stiles zoomed off. We rushed inside his house, his hand pointing to the door behind me. "Could you lock the door?"
"Yeah," I nodded, turning and locking the door. I headed over to the kitchen window, making sure it was locked before closing the blinds. Scott was running around, doing the same thing.
My eyes looked around, "Scott," I said, nervously. "If he followed us, he'll be here any minute."
"I know. If we wait for my mom, she can arm the alarm."
"Which is?" I asked, following Scott up the stairs and to his room where he was locking his window.
"Mountain Ash," Scott said.
I stopped in the middle of his room, watching him. "And what if that doesn't work?" I asked, my nerves getting the best of me.
Scott paused, turning and looking at me. He must have seen the fear in my eyes because he walked up to me, putting his hands on my arms and rubbing them soothingly. "Hey, we're going to be okay, I promise."
"We, or me?" I asked, causing Scott to look at me confused. I sighed, "Scott, Lucas is after me."
"I'm not letting you get hurt."
I put my hands on Scott's chest, "And I don't want you getting hurt. Especially because of me. Lucas will do anything to get to me and if he finds out..." My words trailed off and I looked at the ground.
"Finds out what?"
A sigh left my lips, "What you mean to me, then he'll hurt you." I paused, watching Scott's reaction. "I don't know what we have or why we feel connected, but what I do know is that I don't know what I'd do if something happened to you."
Scott put his hands on my cheeks, rubbing them soothingly, "Nothing is going to happen to any of us. If Lucas or whoever shows up, we'll be ready."
I starred at Scott, getting lost in his eyes before I leaned up, kissing him. His lips moved with mine as he kissed me back, both of us getting lost in the kiss for a minute, forgetting the world around us. Every part of me just wanted to stay here, get lost in Scott, but a sound coming from downstairs made us part and look at the hallway.
Cautiously, we headed downstairs and starred at the front door. My heart picked up, something Scott must have heard because his hand to mine as we sucked in a breath.
Here we go.
Finally some action scenes! I love Scott and Luna so much and have so much planned for them! You saw in the first chapter what I think Luna looks like, but who do you guys picture playing Lucas?
Drop your ideas in the comments and let me know!
