Chapter 36

Within a few days of the first day of class, Kiyo had memorized the names of his classmates and their talents.

Kanryo, a florist, has his own flower shop, and it's very popular in his hometown. Kanryo is very knowledgeable about flowers, and he often gives them to new acquaintances casually.

Genjitsu, an entomologist, is very fond of insects and studies them, there are times when he accidentally discovers new species that humans have never known. However, Genjitsu doesn't seem very friendly...

Kaori is a nurse intern at the school. She is only an intern, but she was well-versed in medicines, diseases, and cures. Furthermore, Kaori was able to give effective body care advice.

Mattia is a well-known rancher inside and outside of Ikusaba. Loving animals and plants, he doesn't even let anyone throw garbage on his farm, not even letting anyone in. In addition, Mattia also knows how to do magic. Normally, when he was guarding the farm, he would sit on the tree, wait for someone to come, then jump down.

Tomoyo, a famous pianist in the area, can play many songs well and even composes her own music. And Tomoyo looks familiar, perhaps Kiyo has met her somewhere...

Junko, a young writer, has sold five books on history and romance. Besides that, she is the most enthusiastic person in the class.

Angie, Sunny's younger sister, is a very obnoxious and insolent person, everyone in the class is annoyed with her, except Junko because she went to the same school as Angie. Although she skipped two grades, she was able to create beautiful mannequins and clothes, even the dummy she made was too realistic.

Kiyo thinks everyone in his class is weird, and Tomoyo and Sunny seem more normal. It's probably an occupational disease, so it's best for Kiyo to get used to them...

There's History class today, great, now it's Charlotte's time.

Kiyo, next to Sunny, opened the classroom door and only Kanryo and Tomoyo were there.

"Eh? Where's everyone else?" - Kiyo asked surprised.

"Ah, is that Kiyo? The others haven't come yet." - Tomoyo looked up.

"Is that so... By the way, I think you look familiar."

"What do you mean?" - She was surprised.

"Come outside."

Kiyo pulled Tomoyo to a corner, and Sunny went up to the computer room.

"Do you know the caregiver Yuri?" - Kiyo asked.

"Yuri..? Ah, yes! She was a nanny in the orphanage in Machi town."

"See, no wonder you look familiar."

"Wait. You were my classmate back then, you were taken away in sixth grade."

Kiyo couldn't believe it, he met his old classmate again. Unable to hide his emotion, he continued:

"So.. so after I was taken away, did anything happen?"

"I was scared at that time, my academic performance was normal so I wasn't taken away. Then Yuri left the class, and someone else took her place. A few days later, I didn't see her again."

"I see, thank you. Well, actually I.. I've already given up on that disgusting assassin job, so don't tell anyone, not even Sunny, especially Angie, she's bad-mouthed."

"Okay, you don't have to worry." Tomoyo gave a sincere smile.

"If you want to do something, go back to it. I'd love to hear you play piano too." - Kiyo smiled back.

Then she entered the classroom.

Kiyo can rest easy with Tomoyo from now on, since she was also very reliable and sincere in the past. But a bit naive.

Putting that aside for a moment, Kiyo decided to go to the artificial mechanical factory.

It's not as big as the real factory, but at least it has enough equipment.

Nobody's there.

And there's nothing to do.

* * *

Tomoyo went out to compose music alone.

She found a library for herself and sat there quietly drawing notes.

"Are you here too?" - A boy's voice rang out.

"Huh?"

It turned out to be Nam. He just passed his deadline, so now he's looking for new ideas.

"Is that Nam? What are you doing there?"

"I was just looking for ideas. The deadline was over, so I came here to look. How about you, what are you doing?"

"Well.. I just compose music. I can't stand it in class. Everyone doesn't get along, especially Angie, she keeps arguing with Kiyo and Genjitsu, or bullying Kanryo and Kaori."

"Is that so... it's best to just ignore them, Tomoyo. They don't care about us, so why should we?"

"Um.. But I don't think they'll like the songs I made myself. No one would listen to me playing."

"Who says no one will listen to you?"

Charlotte has been there ever since.

"Teacher.."

"You're a famous musician, and many people love you, they will surely like the songs you write. Do you think playing the piano is pointless?"

"No! Ah..."

Charlotte laughed:

"See? Try playing the piano in front of the class today, you can do it."

.....

By the time Charlotte's class arrived, she was ready for the first period of her class; so she took a deep breath, put on a big smile, and opened the door:

"Hi, class! Whoa.."

Everyone sat down on the floor. The piano has been here since I don't know. Tomoyo was playing a soft, melodious piece of music, which she composed.

Tomoyo's hand moved skillfully and professionally, that everyone had to be silent.

When she stopped there was a round of applause for her. Even Angie couldn't comment on anything bad.

Junko sobbed.

"Wow, every melody, every note creates a feeling of being in the rain."

"You played brilliantly. You deserve a beautiful bouquet of flowers from me." - Kanryo also shed tears and gave it to Tomoyo.

"Thank you guys." - She helps.

Suddenly Kanryo saw Charlotte standing in front of the classroom:

"Ah, miss!"

"I've only heard part of it, but you played it well, Tomoyo."

"That's right, everyone likes it." - Sunny agrees.

"Okay everyone, time to go back to your seats." - Tomoyo said. "And..."

Tomoyo paused for a moment.

"Thank you, you were right.."

* * *

At the end of class, Kiyo suddenly remembered that Sunny's birthday was two days away. September 13 wasn't it? And now it's 11.

Kiyo never gave Sunny anything, and neither did Sunny. What gift now?

Oh, that's right, Kanryo. A bouquet of flowers is enough.

Kiyo finds Kanryo, he is in the garden.

"Hey.."

"Wow, is that Kiyo? What's the matter?" - He pulled up his hat.

"Well, I was going to order a bouquet of flowers.."

"Oh, you're the first person in my class to order flowers with me! Who are you going to give it to?" - Kanryo happily opened the small notebook.

"Well, friend.."

"Girlfriend?"

"No, just a friend! It's his birthday in two days so I want to give him something..." - Kiyo was baffled.

"Is that so." - Kanryo writes sloppily.

"Red roses, please. Send it to me in two days, don't show it to anyone."

"Okay, okay. This Kanryo will never miss an appointment."

"Then I'll be back."

This is the first time I give Sunny a birthday present. I wonder how he will feel... Sunny must be very happy.

Kiyo came home, looking very delighted. Ryota saw him, and as always, he greeted at the gate him:

"You're back! It's a bit late."

"Yeah, I'm staying at school for a bit. How's the new school going?"

"It's fun. My classmates are pretty good too, not as much pressure as back in Machi."

"Of course it's different." - Kiyo took off his jacket. "Where's Sunny?"

"He's not back yet..."

Probably in school. But it's noon, he has to come back home to have lunch, isn't he?

"Stay here. I'll go up there and get Sunny"

He left that coat in his room and put his shoes back on to school.

He went up to the computer room, where Sunny usually comes, but couldn't find him anywhere.

Not even down to Angie's sewing factory, and she kicked him out as well.

Arriving at Mattia's farm, Kiyo intended to enter there, but suddenly remembered that Mattia wouldn't let anyone into the farm without his permission, so Kiyo had to look up at the tree to see if he was sitting on it.

He's not on the tree! Weird, is Mattia feeding the cattle? Or is he having lunch?

Kiyo started to feel confused. Junko doesn't have her own place of work here, so she works from home; Kanryo had gone home, and so was Tomoyo. So where was Sunny, even Ryota didn't know?

Annoyed, he went to the back of the farm and eventually saw Sunny and Mattia. What are they doing? Mattia seems to be giving Sunny something. A bag of meat and milk?

When he was done, he just got out of there.

"Sunny!" - Kiyo called out.

"Kiyo? Why haven't you gone home yet?"

"Well... Ryota said you haven't come back yet, so I ran up here to find.."

"Is that so. Geez, I'm going straight home anyway, not going anywhere." - Sunny laughed.

"But I'm so worried... Why are you asking for meat and milk from Mattia's farm?"

"I've seen the house run out of both, that's why I asked..."

"Then why don't you buy it yourself?"

Sunny was silent. Seeing that he shouldn't be asking him anymore, Kiyo gave up, since it was just a trivial matter.

But for some reason, seeing Sunny with Mattia makes Kiyo feel like...

"Are you jealous of Mattia?" - Sunny giggled.

"What? No way!" - Kiyo blushed.

"Then why do you look worried when you see me next to him?"

"Well... you haven't come back so..." - He got awkward.

He couldn't able to hide it from Sunny, the expression just now was too obvious. Finally, Kiyo confessed:

"Yeah, I'm a bit jealous... I shouldn't have had that attitude..."

"Well, it's okay! Honestly, I feel the same way about Kanryo... But let's go home, it's late."

***

Two days later, right on Sunny's birthday, everything was prepared as Kiyo wanted.

It was a wonderful bouquet of roses, surrounded by pink decorative paper and white ribbons. Seems a bit feminine, doesn't it?

He and Kanryo entered the class later, because the florist's opinion was that they would wait until the class was full before giving the present to Sunny.

"I have to give it in front of the class..?" - Kiyo is a bit shy.

"It would be okay, Kiyo. Just give it a try. No one will give you a bad look."

They hid in the hidden corner of the stairs, to see if Charlotte was going to class.

Of course, she was. Kanryo followed Kiyo, and Kiyo hid flowers behind his back.

He opened the door. As expected, the whole class sat down.

"Why are you so late, you two?" - Genjitsu sighed.

Kiyo took up a bold voice:

"Today is Sunny's birthday, September 13. Come up here, I have a surprise for you."

Sunny was a bit unexpected, stood up, and walked up to the two of them.

Charlotte seemed very curious.

"Is that right?" - Kiyo turned back and asked Kanryo.

"Yeah, just continue."

Kanryo stepped back a little, letting Kiyo pull the bouquet from behind.

"I'm giving it to you. It's the first time I give you something like this, isn't it?"

Sunny recoiled, then a bit emotionally accepting it.

A round of applause broke out. Angie got a little irritated, so she pretended to clap.

"Thank you, Kiyo..! Wow, this is nice, what can I do to repay you next year?"

"There's no need to be so grateful, just... I just wanted to give it to you. Happy birthday!"

Sunny bowed in thanks and went back to his seat with Kiyo and Kanryo.

"Red roses represent love..." - Junko said gracefully.

"Wait that means Kiyo..."

Suddenly they smiled and turned to Sunny and Kiyo, making them blush.

"It's time, be serious.." - Sunny said hugging his face.

Charlotte clapped her hands, gleefully.

"Okay, class! I'm happy that you guys have gotten along well over time. Now, we need a class president... who's going to volunteer?"

"Me, a talented person like me, is very worthy to lead this class," - Angie said, raising her hand and patting her chest.

"Stop it. Junko or Tomoyo is fine, but are you gonna make this class eating bran?" - Genjitsu interrupted.

"Tomoyo? She seems suits to it." - Kaori interjected.

Most of you voted for Tomoyo. And she didn't notice anything because she was composing music.

"Hmm, I've chosen one myself, Tomoyo, can you be the class president?"

Suddenly, the musician girl raised her face:

"Oh.. I shouldn't be..."

"What's wrong? Everyone believes in you." - The programmer turned back.

"So the whole class agrees?"

"One hundred percent!" - Junko responded.

"Fine. Less annoying than Junko." Genjitsu smiled lightly.

"Hey Genjitsu!"

"I agree." - So is Kiyo.

"So, Tomoyo, do you agree?"

Tomoyo hesitated for a moment, then decided:

"Alright."

"Then it is decided, from now on Tomoyo is our class president! Oh, time's up, I'll go now, see you guys!" - Charlotte stepped out the door.

Kanryo seized the opportunity, stammering:

"To celebrate this day, I give you a beautiful flower-"

Before he finished his sentence, Genjitsu brushed Kanryo off:

"Come on man, it's time, stop being flattery."

Hearing that, Kanryo was depressed and went back to his seat.

***

As soon as he got home, Sunny suddenly hugged Kiyo:

"Wow, this is my first time getting a birthday present. Thanks, Kiyo."

"You're welcome." - Kiyo let out a small laugh.

Sunny carefully removed the paper, then placed the flowers in the vase, watering more.

"Isn't it look pretty?"

"Pretty like you." - Kiyo said carelessly.

Hearing that, Sunny blushed and rushed to where Kiyo was sitting:

"Hey, who compares humans to flowers?"

"Don't you know? The red rose is already pretty, you're handsome as well. The brown hair is slightly parted, and the face is balanced and cute.. The cheeks are smooth too." - Kiyo laughed and pinched Sunny's cheek.

"I'm not like that! By the way, Ryota hasn't come back yet?" - Sunny looked around.

"He'll be back in a few minutes."

After that, the two sat in silence, looking outside. The noon in Chushin was unusually quiet. The sound of traffic and people has subsided, only the sound of roosters crowing somewhere is not clear.

Behind the four walls, that silence is even more evident. There is no wind and no clouds. Only a deep blue sky.

Sunny leans on Kiyo's lap for a bit, then raised his face and looked into the other's eyes.

"You look good too."

"Huh?"

"You're handsome too, with straight black hair and a solid body."

"Don't say that-"

Without letting Kiyo finish his words, Sunny sat on the other's lap and tried to get close to Kiyo's face, whispering something, but he could still hear clearly:

"Be my boyfriend."

Understood, Kiyo also blushed and followed suit.

You are indeed scary sometimes.. But as long you are still a good person, I still love you.

The two's lips were about to touch the place when suddenly there was a rattle outside the gate. Ryota is back.

Sunny jumped off Kiyo, and Kiyo sat looking away, waving a paper fan.

"I'm back! Uh... why do you two look so embarrassed? Did you guys just do something indecent?" - Ryota asked surprised.

"No, it's nothing! Hey, the rice is cooked, wash your hands and eat." - Kiyo frantically pointed at the rice cooker.

But after that fateful day, the two officially became a couple.

As promised, having free time, Neon went to the Music room by himself, looking for Tomoyo.

Fortunately, she is there.

"Tomoyo, here I come."

"Neon! That's great, I didn't know what to play until you came. So, practice?"

"Ah okay."

Neon sat down in front of the piano, and Tomoyo put a basic song on it, telling him to try.

After a while, he finished playing. Tomoyo nodded.

"That's decent. For someone who hasn't played in a while, this is pretty good. But you're a bit slow, Neon. Is something wrong?"

"Well... these days, my head doesn't think about things that are not positive at all..." - Neon scratched his head and said.

"I see, so you're stressed out. Let me play some classical songs okay? Classical music helps relieve stress."

She sat down, calmly, she put her hand on the keyboard, and started playing a quite cheerful song.

After a while, Neon certainly felt less pressure, instead, he felt more at peace than ever, especially with a musician around his age like Tomoyo...

When Tomoyo finished playing, she sat up.

"Tomoyo..."

"What's up?"

Neon blushed slightly, embarrassedly said:

"Thank you. You were right earlier, I'm less tired now."

"No problem, I just wanted to help you."

Neon was still embarrassed, but he boldly took Tomoyo's hand and said:

"Hey, Tomoyo, when you're free... share what you want to tell me, alright? We're friends, aren't we? So we should.. be more open."

"Hmm, that's fine. But why are you suddenly asking?"

"Because I... just want to know more about you." - Neon still blushing, slowly released Tomoyo's hand.

Tomoyo smiled, approvingly.

They said goodbye to each other and left.
