Topic 16
1 Do you have a pet?
Yes, I do. I have a pet cat at home. She's just a regular Vietnamese cat, not any fancy breed. I adopted her when she was a stray kitten I found near my house about two years ago. Now she's like a part of my family. She's playful, affectionate, and always follows me around the house.
2 What inconvenience may you have when keeping a pet?
Well, taking care of a pet can be time-consuming. For example, I have to clean her litter box every day and make sure she has fresh food and water. Sometimes she scratches the furniture or climbs onto the table, which can be annoying. Also, if I travel, I need someone to look after her, which isn't always easy.
3 How well are services developed for pets in your city/town?
In my city, pet services have become more popular in recent years. There are many pet shops, grooming salons, and even veterinary clinics nearby. You can also find pet hotels or cat cafes in the city center. I think people care more about animals now, so services are improving quickly.
PART 2: A PIECE OF SHOCKING NEWS THAT YOU HAVE HEARD OR READ ABOUT
One piece of shocking news that I read was about a fire in a karaoke bar in Bình Dương Province, Vietnam, in 2022. I read it on an online news website the day after the accident happened.
The fire broke out at night while many people were inside singing and celebrating. Unfortunately, the fire spread very fast, and many people couldn't escape in time. More than 30 people died, and some others were injured. It was reported that some of the emergency exits were locked, which made the situation even worse.
I was extremely shocked when I read the article. It was hard to believe that a place for fun and entertainment could become so dangerous. It also made me think about how many public places in my country might not follow safety rules.
This news stayed in my mind for a long time. I hope that after such a tragedy, stricter fire safety regulations will be enforced, and people will be more aware of fire prevention.
PART 3
1 How do most people in your country get the news?
Most people in Vietnam get news from the internet, especially through social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and online newspapers. Many young people no longer watch TV news or read printed newspapers. Older people, though, still prefer traditional media like television and radio.
2 How do you compare TV and newspapers in the ways thay report news?
TV provides more visual and audio elements, so it's easier to catch people's attention. News is delivered quickly and is often easier to understand. Newspapers, on the other hand, give more details and allow for in-depth analysis. I think newspapers are better for serious readers, while TV suits people who want quick updates.
3 What would be major changes in the way people get the news in the future?
In the future, I think more people will use personalized news apps that use AI to show news based on their interests. Also, short-form video news will be more common, like what we see on TikTok or YouTube Shorts. Traditional news sources may lose their audience if they don't adapt.
