Topic 2
PART 1
1. When did you first use a smartphone?
Absolutely, the first time I used a mobile phone was when I was in ninth grade. At that time, I was sick and had to stay in the hospital for a long period. When it got dark, my family members were not allowed to stay with me in the hospital room. Because of that, my father bought me a phone so that they could contact me when they were not in the room.
2. What do you use a smartphone for?
At first, I only used my phone for entertainment, making calls, and texting my family and close friends. Later, when I entered university, its functions became much more diverse. I used it to communicate with my teachers and friends, search for information, conduct research, and receive assignments anytime.
3. What do you consider when purchasing a smartphone?
The features I consider when buying a smartphone include storage capacity because, in university, I need to use my phone for many different purposes. I also take size into account because my commute to school is quite long, and if a phone is too big, it might easily fall out while I'm on the move. Finally, I consider the phone's features, as older phones may have many technological limitations.
PART 2: TYPE OF LEISURE ACTIVITY WHICH YOU DON'T LIKE
Today, I want to tell you about a type of entertainment that I don't find interesting: visiting art exhibitions. This type of entertainment may not be very popular in Vietnam, but it is a favorite pastime in many other countries. In European countries, art exhibitions can be found in many places, and some famous galleries attract a large number of visitors.
The first time I heard about art exhibitions was when I read a novel that mentioned visiting an art gallery. People described it as an interesting and meaningful experience. However, when I looked into it, I found it quite boring—especially for those who don't have deep knowledge about the artist, the historical period, or the context in which the painting was created. Understanding the meaning of a painting is often very abstract and can lead to many debates.
Most young people today are not interested in this type of entertainment. My friends, who are all Vietnamese, also share the same opinion as me. Observing the details of a painting and trying to guess the artist's intentions is difficult and often lacks accuracy. However, if I could understand the meaning behind these paintings, I might find it more fascinating.
PART 3
1. What leisure activities do most people in your country prefer?
In my country, different types of entertainment appeal to different age groups. For example, middle-aged people and the elderly often enjoy watching TV programs such as news, political updates, and social issues. The slightly younger generation, like my parents, tends to enjoy reality TV shows and television dramas. Meanwhile, the younger generation today prefers more experiential activities, such as going on outdoor trips, camping in different locations, visiting shopping malls, cafés, restaurants, and watching movies at cinemas.
2. In general, do you observe any changes in people's preference for certain types of entertainment?
Overall, there haven't been significant changes in certain types of entertainment. Every generation enjoys watching reality TV shows and films, depending on the length and genre of the movies they watch.
3. What do you think about the development of internet-based entertainment?
The development of the Internet has also led to the growth of various entertainment forms. People can now access a wide range of content online, where almost everything is available to viewers. Additionally, the Internet allows people to play games and connect with others from all over the world.
