Three
At school, Hae Won had finished her running so she left the sport hall with Jae Hyun.
"Hae Won, you haven't answered my question yet," he suddenly held her wrist and inquired as they strolled down the stairs.
"Huh?"
"Why are you so nice to me?"
"Well... I like you..." she looked at him with her smiling eyes.
"What? You... like me?" he stared at her as his feet gradually deviated from the ground.
"Oh sh..." she quickly grabbed his body and hugged him tightly from behind to stop him from floating uncontrollably.
"You can... let go of me... it's fine now," he stuttered, averting his eyes not to meet her gaze.
"You idiot," she chuckled and released him, "I meant I liked you as a friend. Why are you so excited?"
"Ah... I thought... you meant it the other way," he timidly grinned, letting out awkward chuckles.
"It's also because... you seem to be a loner. I used to be a loner just like you so... I wanna help you," she patted his back.
"T... thanks," he shyly smiled and affectionately looked at her.
"By the way, you wanna carry my backpack? It might keep you from flying?"
"Sure, leave that to me."
"You're such a puppy, you know?" she giggled and pinched his cheeks.

The two of them proceeded down to the ground floor and get out of the school. They both boarded the same bus. The stop where Jae Hyun needed to get off was on the way from school to Hae Won's house. It was raining heavily outside and she had to walk a very long way from the bus stop to her home, so he offered to lend her his umbrella. She turned it down at first as she knew that his house was not close to the bus stop either. However, because Jae Hyun was so insistent, they decided that she would get off with him, walk him home and then leave with his umbrella. Being together under a small umbrella, they needed to stay side by side at a close proximity to avoid getting wet, with her leaning her head on his shoulder.
"Hi mom," Jae Hyun greeted his mother as approached the door.
"Ah... hi... you're home?" So Hyun blankly stared at her son, not believing what she was looking at. Understanding Jae Hyun's reservedness, She had never expected that he would bring home such a good-looking girl. It was incredible that he just managed to talk to a girl, but he was standing in front of her door with one. "And you are...?" she turned her eyes to Hae Won.
"I'm Jae Hyun's friend, missus," Hae Won gave So Hyun a friendly grin.
"Jae Hyun's...?" So Hyun looked at the young girl and inclined her head in disbelief.
"Friend," Hae Won smiled again and gently placed her hands onto Jae Hyun's shoulder.
"Ah..." So Hyun slowly nodded her head. Still unable to process the surprising situation, she split out a nonsense question, "You're a girl?"
"Ah... yes," Hae Won also nodded her head, but her genuine smile began to change into an uneasy one, "A friend, who is a girl."
"You're so pretty," So Hyun covered her mouth and gaped at Hae Won.
"It's so kind of you," Hae Won softly chuckled and bowed to So Hyun.
Meanwhile, Jae Hyun was struggling to comprehend what was happening, having no idea how to deal with the uneasy situation.
"Ermm... mom?" he waved his hand in front of his mother's face, "Are you OK?"
"Huh?" So Hyun blinked her eyes and startled. "Ah... yeah... hi Hae Won," she had a handshake with her son's new friend.
"Yeah, missus," the awkward grin reappeared on Hae Won's face.
"Aigoo... I mean... you're his friend, you're a girl and... you're just so... pretty. It's nice to see you," So Hyun said and wryly laughed, still shaking Hae Won's hand.
"Ah... nice to meet you too," Hae Won giggled.
"Mom, you're creeping her out," Jae Hyun sighed and whispered as he pulled their hands out, "Just let go of her hand."
After the strange and unwieldy introduction, So Hyun invited Hae Won into the house. At first, Hae Won wanted to leave right away as she got the umbrella. So Hyun asked her son's friend to stay back for a bit and the young girl initially refused. However, out of courtesy, she ended up squeezing out a yes. Anyway, she had nothing to do at home then.
"Hae Won, Jae Hyun, you two sit at this table, OK? Lemme make some ramen for you guys," she brought the kids to a table and patted their backs before rushing into the kitchen.
It was not even five minutes later that two hot bowls of beef ramen were served. Feeling extremely hungry from the training, Hae Won quickly thanked So Hyun and then dug in right away.
"Have this," Jae Hyun softly said and gave Hae Won some of his beef, "You're an athlete so remember to eat a lot of protein."
"Mm-hmm...Thanks a lot," she said while still chewing her food.
"Don't talk with your mouth full like that," he sniggered.
Despite standing in the kitchen, So Hyun could still listen to every single word of the conversation between her son and, from her perspective, his "so-called" girlfriend. Knowing that her son made a good connection, her mouth unconsciously curved into a smile. It was a genuine smile that for a very long time, nobody saw on her face.
"Goodbye Ms. Kang, I gotta leave now," Hae Won got into the kitchen to say bye to her friend's mom, "By the way, thank you very much for the food."
"Uhm," So Hyun said, "Remember to drop by our house whenever you want."
"Sure, I will," Hae Won said and then turned to Jae Hyun. "Thanks for the umbrella," she flatly said and poked Jae Hyun's cheek before leaving the house.
"Mom, you need me to wash the dishes?" Jae Hyun asked his mother after Hae Won left.
"Huh?" she looked at her son, scrunching her face in a weird way Jae Hyun never saw before, "Wash the dishes? Aren't you gonna see your girlfriend off?"
"She was not my girlfriend, mom!" he retorted, "By the way, she told me she didn't need me to..."
"Aigoo... that's why you never got a girl in your whole life," she grumbled and kicked his ass, "Go out and see her off!"
Listening to what his mother said, Jae Hyun took up a raincoat and ran after her to the bus stop. It was not long until his feet completely left the ground and he was literally flying towards her. Floating in the middle of the rain, he could feel the draughty wind blowing at his body and the cold raindrops hitting his face. But they all did not matter much.
"Aaaaaahhhhh," Jae Hyun instinctively let out an undignified shriek as he fell onto the ground right in front of Hae Won.
"Are you OK?" she nervously asked him and hastily helped him up after seeing the clumsy landing.
"I'm fine," he stood up in an instant, "Don't worry."
"I told you not to see me off, why are you here?"
"Ermm... I... I guess I... just... want to," he stammered.
"You're warmer than I thought," she chuckled, "Then let's go to the bus stop together."

A few weeks after that, there was a girl who transferred to Jae Hyun's class. She introduced herself as Seol Yoon Ah and chose to sit right behind him. Yoon Ah was exactly the type of girls who all the boys in this school liked: pretty, tall and approachable.
It was just an ordinary morning when class 3.01 students were preparing for PE lesson at the basketball court and an incident happened. While Hae Won was playing, the net backboard hung on the wall loosened and fell off. She was standing right beneath it and did not have any time to react.
Seeing their friends being in danger, both Jae Hyun and Sung Ho tried to rush over to push her away. Sung Ho was a bit faster. Kicking extremely hard at the floor, he created a force great enough to launch himself at her just in time. They both neatly evaded the falling board but instead collided with a steel ball cage nearby. Sung Ho, fortunately, did not get injured. However, Hae Won's forehead hit the ball cage so hard that it began bleeding.
"Are you guys alright?" Yoon Ah rushed over to check up on Hae Won while Ji Woo did the same thing to Sung Ho.
"I'm good, don't worry," Sung Ho said, "Hae Won, you're good?"
"Arghh," Hae Won wiped away the blood on her forehead, "It hurts a bit, but I'm OK."
"Why are you so careless?" Jae Hyun approached Hae Won and scolded her while helping her up, "It's freaking dangerous. Didn't you notice that it's gonna fall?"
"Hey, stop raising your voice at me like that!" Hae Won grumbled.
"That's because I'm worried," Jae Hyun said in a mix of annoyance and anxiety, "Let's go to the medical room and let them check up on you."
"Yeah! Wait for me," Ji Woo said, "I'll bring Sung Ho there, too!"
Sung Ho initially refused and insisted that he did not need to go but Ji Woo managed to persuade him eventually. The four of them headed to the medical room while Yoon Ah stayed with other students.
As the lesson ended, not coming back to the class, Yoon Ah discreetly stay back to examine the area smashed by Sung Ho. It seemed that he kicked it so hard that the wooden floor was terribly broken and sharp pieces of wood, from small to big, were scattered everywhere. No normal human being on Earth would be able to do that.
"What the hell is this?" she mumbled and picked up one of those pieces, "How did he do this? Does he has superpower or something? Super strength?"
Meanwhile, Jae Hyun was standing outside the medical room to wait for Hae Won. Disappointment and frustration surged through him as he looked down at the weight on his ankles. Fixing his eyes onto them, he wanted nothing more than taking them off and throwing them away. He also struggled to decipher the reason why his mother was so overprotective and made him wear them all the time. But for those heavy things weighing him down, he would have been the one who saved Hae Won, not Sung Ho.

That evening, Yoon Ah came back home. It was a rental apartment tucked away in a remote area of Namwon where people rarely set their feet on. Coming into her room, she locked the door and covered the window with a thick curtain. Pulling out her drawer, there were a handful of weapons inside, including guns, bullets and daggers.
"That's faster than I expected," Yoon Ah smirked mischievously and then closed the drawer again. "I found a boy with super power in Seodong High," she picked up her phone and reported with a small voice, barely enough for the call receiver to listen.
"Impressive..." the mysterious man, who received her call, sniggered and took a sip of tea, "No wonder you were the youngest agent to graduate the Pyongyang training course."
