Chapter 1 - A mysterious stranger
Waves of ice cold sea water lapped on the edges of the snowy white ice burg. Avatar Aang sat silently, cross legged on a smoothed out boulder. His fists were connected and his eyes gently closed. He took slow and steady breaths of air, his chest moving in time with the water. The small cold breeze of hair whirling past him every now and then. It was cold enough to send chills down anyone's back . A campfire was lit ablaze nearby, being the only source of warmth for miles around. Aang finally opened his eyes and grinned. The South Pole seemed to be a very spiritual place where an avatar could meditate in peace.
"Meditation helps clear your mind, does it not?" Uncle Iroh laughed from behind. Aang drowned the lit campfire before turning to face Iroh. "Meditation helps me in a lot of ways! You should try it too sometime." He suggested. Iroh picked up his cup of tea and sipped. "I don't think I would be able to do it as well as you, young avatar. My hands would move every now and then to pick up a cup of tea!" He began laughing.
Zuko groaned and burried his face in a lump of snow. "What's wrong with you and your tea? Don't you ever think of anything besides that?" He muttered. Iroh shook his head proudly. "Tea helps clear MY mind!" He emphasised the word my. "And shouldn't you be training young prince?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. Zuko's head popped out from the snow. "Well... I was but you guys dragged me all the way out here!" He pointed out. Uncle Iroh tutted as he sipped some more tea. "Since you don't have anything to do, why not help me make some more tea?" He kindly offered.
Tea. Zuko now hated that word more than anything. It's all his uncle ever talked about. The mention of tea just makes him want to scream. He certainly didn't want to get stuck making it. "Uhhh... I would love to uncle but...." Iroh raised his eyebrow again. "I have to teach Aang some elite styles of fire bending? He hasn't fully learned the fire whip yet!" He quickly made himself an excuse. Uncle Iroh believed every word he said and allowed Zuko to escape tea making. Zuko grabbed Aang and pulled him away towards the southern water tribe where the rest of team avatar were.
Aang looked like a stubborn little boy being pulled along by his dad. His arms were crossed and he had that stubborn look on his face too. "It's not nice to lie. The monks told me that lying could bring great problems. Maybe you should help him make tea? You know? Uncle, niece bonding time?" He suggested. Zuko dumped Aang on the ground and glared at him. "I don't care. I hate tea! Monks can't change that." Zuko complained, pacing while doing so. Aang picked himself up and shrugged before making his way through the snow gates of the tribe. "WE'RE BACK!" He called out.
Everyone in the village stopped doing whatever they were doing and welcome him back.
Katara ran out of her igloo followed by Sokka, Toph Ty Lee, Mai and Suki. She hugged Aang. "How did your meditation go?" She asked. Aang smiled his usual goofy smile, "It was good! I had a lot of fun talking to Roku!" He said. "But it took me a long time to connect with him... It felt as if a force was pushing me away." He sighed. Katara pulled him in for a hug. "Whatever it is, I'm sure you can get through it." Sokka suddenly high fived his back with force. "No need to worry! He's the avatar! He'll find a way somehow." Sokka reassured everyone.
Everyone just hung out together in the snow, talking about dreams and achievements. Appa sat nearby with Momo perched on his head. Soon uncle Iroh arrived back from his tea date and joined team avatar too. "I always wondered what it would be like to go to another dimension!" Sokka randomly bursted out. Everyone died of laughter. "As if that could happen!" Toph grinned. Sokka sulked and turned his back to everyone. "Yeah yeah! Laugh all you want. But a man can dream too!"
"I always wanted to find someone who is able to challenge me as an equal. It's hard finding benders as good as me these days." Toph boasted.
"Well I want to make new friends!" Ty Lee declared.
"What about different tea for every day?" Iroh suggested. Zuko groaned louder than he ever has before in his life. "No tea! Please?"
Aang chuckled at his friends. "Well I'm going to get some sleep. Have fun talking guys." He yawned before walking away. He hadn't even taken 2 steps when he felt a weird sense nearby. He stopped and tried to make out what it was. But then thin air exploded in his face, causing him and his friends to all stumble backwards. Appa got up and glided towards Aang and his friends. Aang got on his feet and held his staff ready. He peered at the black smoke emerging from the exact spot he was standing on just before the explosion. He swung his staff, sending a blast of wind towards the smoke, blowing most of it away. He could see someone standing there. He had black spiky hair and a black robe with red clouds patterned on. He was also wearing an orange spiral mask so no one could see who it was.
Everyone got into fighting stance as the human brushed his robes. The masked man then looked directly at everyone. Appa began feeling insecure and got ready to charge. "My! My! Seems like that old guy was better than I thought! Who knew he could actually send me to another dimension..." He chuckled. "And look! I found people. How can they live in such a cold area. Brrrrr!" He rubbed his hands together to try and conserve heat. Aang stepped forwards "who are you?" He questioned. The masked man didn't answer. "Talk to us!" Aang demanded. The masked man's left arm twitched and everyone suddenly decided to go at him full force.
Water, Fire, Earth and Air came from all directions. Suki aimed her fans, Ty Lee attempted to block his chi while Mai threw her needles. Sokka even aimed his boomerang to masked guy's face. But what happened next surprised them. They were all sucked into the guy's mask. Everyone! Even Appa and Momo who weren't even involved!
For a few moments they were engulfed in complete darkness, only cubes and boxes were faintly seen in the distance. Everyone stood huddled together, alert of anything that could appear. The masked man's head appeared in thin air. "have fun trying to get back home" he laughed before disappearing. Then the darkness began fading and they found themselves standing in an open field, next to a flowing river, just outside a forest.
