Untitled Part
Good morning, I'm Van Anh. Delectable food, good conversation and the comfortable atmosphere are what people talk about Thanksgiving, one of the most meaningful meals of the year is celebrated anualy in the last thursday of november. However, there are so many people dont really know the true meaning of this celebration. So today I'm here to talk about Thanksgiving.
My topic includes 3 parts: History, meaning, and the way they celebrate it.
Thanksgiving Day can be traced back to the celebration in 1621 at the Plymouth Plantation, where the religious refugees from England or well-known as the Pilgrims invited the local Native Americans to a harvest feast after a particularly successful growing season.
The previous year's harvests had failed and in the winter of 1620, half of the pilgrims had starved to death. Luckily for the rest, the local taught the Pilgrims how to grow corn, beans and squash, catch fish, and collect seafood. In the next successful season, the Pilgrims celebrate and invite local people to express their thank.
Next, the meaning of Thanksgiving has undergone numerous changes. Over the centuries, families added their traditions to the Thanksgiving celebration to preserve what they held most precious. It can be the time when people come together for a common purpose. Its a conciliation of arguments as well as a time of healing. At there we can find strength and hope.
Now let's talk about the food.
So why do Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day?
One theory says the choice of turkey was inspired by Queen Elizabeth The First who was eating dinner when she heard that Spanish ships had sunk on their way to attack England. She was so happy with the news then ordered another goose be served. Some early US settlers roasted turkeys as they were inspired by her actions.
Beside Tuckey, there are many classic Thanksgiving dishes are served. A pumpkin pies and sweet potatoes are most common.
The American do a lot activities in Thanksgiving. One of them is football. Like soccer on Boxing Day in the UK, football(the American version) plays a major role in Thanksgiving. Another Thanksgiving traditional is the Macy's parade in New York City - an annual miss contest, cheerleader, marching bands and big balloons
