CHAPTER 2

After two months in prison, Pen was gradually getting used to the poor–psychopath environment. And, especially, she felt some interest in connecting with Vivienne — emotionally, probably — because at least Viv was the most normal person in here.

Pen was assigned to work in the library, as a librarian. That was kind of her favorite, because although she had become a dealer and shattered her parents' trust, she had once been an honor student at Ivy League.

What a coincidence — Pen came across Vivienne searching for something on the shelf in the far-left corner.

"Looking for some books, huh?" Pen stepped closer, speaking in a soft voice.

"I'm just helping Lux find a book with a red–dress girl on the cover," Vivienne replied, continuing to search without even acknowledging that Pipes was standing beside her.

"Oh? So... what's your favorite book?" Pen asked, staring at Viv, her eyes filled with curiosity.

Vivienne suddenly stopped moving and looked straight into Pen's eyes.
"Girl, I wish I had a favorite book," she said with a smirk. Then, after a beat: "I can't read."

Vivienne was now face-to-face with Pen's astonished eyes. She laughed suddenly.
"I'm dyslexic."

Pen slowly began to piece the story together. Vivienne, with an unreadable smile, added,
"But I still keep up my knowledge by listening to psychological reports in audio form... or I ask Lux to read me books with interesting covers."

And then, Viv stepped so close to Pen that they could hear each other's breathing. She brushed Pen's hair aside and whispered, as if sharing something embarrassing:

"But now... I think I can ask you to do that job instead of Lux."

Having said that, Vivienne turned and walked away, leaving Pen both shy and confused.
