➽Chapter Twenty Two

WARNING: EXTREMELY LONG CHAPTER ^_^

Castrin Madarlon's starry ever-gazing eyes read past the words he had just written in his fine scripture, the pen falling out of his grip as he finally let himself fall back on the chair he sat upon on.

Five pages, two thousand five hundred and twenty-one words, four hours spent over the past five days, and seven leather-bound books all on the history of Mind Siphons and how they came to be.

Yet nothing, absolutely nothing in those seven hundred to a thousand paged books, told him about a being potentially being a full or half Mind Siphon yet display uncontrollable powers beyond their kind.

It has never been recorded in history. It has never happened in history.

And somehow, Alesandria was still a living, breathing example of that impossibility.

He had stayed up, day and night after his encounter with Alesandria and Onyx, searching, recording, reading about the possibilities. There had to be a reason to all of this. There just had to be.

But nothing but two wretched possibilities seemed to stand out as the most probable.

Castrin knew deep in his heart he had lied to Onyx when he had told her that Alesandria's parents have only ever been mortals. Truth be told, he never knew her parents. He didn't know of their well-being or what their status was when they were alive.

All he knew was that her mom had abandoned her and her dad died. And he went off with her words, choosing to believe her when she said her parents were in no shape or form ever magic beings.

Yet that statement was proving to be very wrong the more he kept digging deeper.

Then there was the probability of her birth underneath the Crescent Fall Moon which would explain her sudden possession of powers. Yet it didn't explain why she wasn't a full Mind Siphon or why her powers were this out of control and this powerful.

Beings born underneath the Crescent Fall Moon where deemed full magic beings once they were randomly gifted with powers only others could dream of possessing. The only problem was they never lived too long and usually died within their first five years of their life when their untamable powers would implode on the child itself.

Alesandria fell into none of those categories. Nothing whatsoever. She was still alive after sixteen years of living.

The possibilities were limited, the explanations shortened and time thinning out but Castrin knew, he just knew, it was in her bloodline. Her whole body. She was born with those powers, chosen to be a part of a powerful race of immortals and yet her own body was refusing to give in to that persuasion.

It was like she was being sucked into a spiraling whirlpool she couldn't pull herself out of and Castrin seemed to be her only hope but even he thought the dwindling thought of hope was an option not to be discussed anymore.

Running his fingers through his dark, tangled locks, the Dark Magic Summoner licked his lips as his fingers shuffled around to stack his research in a neat pile, hoping to find more information on her bloodline as time thinned out.

The sun was going to set soon, hues of amber and scarlet mixing together to create a mirage of masterpieces that shattered across the drifting clouds that passed by. A free, cold wind passed by the windows of his room, shaking the glass violently.

Castrin's pushed himself up, getting out of the chair as he ran his fingers through his hair again and walked over to one of the tall shelves were he tucked it away in an empty book before pushing it back to his original space on the shelves.

His dark blue shirt clung to his chest, the short sleeves exposing the dark, intricate designs on his arms that laced his skin. Marks of his victory, his victory, his lost, his shame. Marks that would stay on his skin for the rest of his immortal life.

A sigh released from his lips, letting his body fall on the pile of books that littered the dusty floor, clouds of dust rising up to meet his eyes. His kaleidoscope eyes, the color of stars and hues of the ocean mixed together, held the gaze of the last of the rays of sunlight that spilled in through his window, his thoughts lingering on anything but the darkening night sky.

A girl with the powers of a Mind Siphon. Possibly a full-blooded or half-blooded Mind Siphon with powers that seemed to have materialized out of nowhere and bestowed upon her.

No explanation, no origin, no clues. A damn mystery that was waiting to never be solved.

Sighing, the Dark Magic Summoner flattened his palms against the hardcovers of the books he laid upon on, tearing his eyes off the dimming streak of sunlight as it disappeared into the night sky. His body was tired, his eyes drooping from the lack of sleep he had received the night before and the night before that.

Deciding to water down his system with a swing of Ranshu Wine that sat perfectly still on his bedside table, Castrin reluctantly got up and walked over to the bedside table, his hand wrapping around the tall, gently curved ruby bottle of the luscious wine. The scarlet liquid swirled around inside its glass home, begging to come out.

Pulling at the cork at the opening of the wine bottle until it fell to the floor in a defeated thump, the Summoner raised the bottle to his lips and let his head fall back as the deliciously sweet liquid slid down his throat at an extremely fast pace. It fell down his throat and lingered at the back of his mouth, the adrenaline in his body kicking into overdrive.

Licking his lips. Castrin dragged himself down to his bed that was nearly covered in all hardcover books, ready to pull the blanket over his head and drink his way down to sleep. The soft fabric of the bed met his back as he collapsed on it.

He didn't want to think, his mind already twisting a turning the more he kept running the facts over in his head. Another swing of the Ranshu Wine and his muscles contracted within his own body, pain shaking his bones as a headache formed in the back of his mind. The Summoner knew he was doing this to himself, keeping his mind awake while his body wanted nothing more but to sleep.

Sooner or later, he would knockout and give in to the pain. Just not yet.

After emptying half the bottle of wine and slipping his body underneath the sheets, Castrin was more than ready to close his eye and forget he knew how to dream.

Those starry eyes of his were ready to fall asleep, the effect of the wine already dulling his body to nothing but numbing sleep when the sharp sound of something knocking on the window broke that comfortable barrier.

The first thought in his mind said it was just the wind rattling against the glass, nothing to worry about yet when the same sound shattered against the glass window a second time, the Dark Magic Summoner ignored the inside voice, choosing to shut it off in his mind.

Groaning, he swung the bottle to his lips to guzzle down another long sip of the wine before pulling himself out of bed and walking over to the window. The knocking sound seemed to have stopped, nothing but the sun setting into the night meeting his eyes.

Yet, he didn't give up hope as he reached over with his hands, a dark cloud with littered stars swirling around his fingers. The window opened to the simple mental persuasion spell, a cold breeze brushing slipping into the room and rustling past his exposed arms.

A paper rolled up tightly and wrapped with a black ribbon with a silver jewel embedded into the knot drifted down from the window ledge and landed in his opened hand, touching the tip of his palm as it did so.

Sighing once again, the Dark Magic Summoner sat down on his bed once again, drinking another sip from the wine bottle before setting it down at his feet and unraveling the paper.

His eyes read past the words, skimming down to the middle paragraph where he read the scribbled, cursive imprint of the paper. As soon as his eyes scanned over her name, something triggered inside of him and the lingering feeling of sleep left his body. "Curses, it can't be" he hissed throwing the paper on the ground.

"She can't be alive. She has to be dead" Castrin uttered, running his fingers through his hair as he said so. The wine bottle sat still at his feet, waiting as his fingers wrapped its slim body and picked it right back up.

"I need to contact him before that demon of a witch gets here" he uttered once more, tipping the bottle of wine back once more as he let the alcohol rush into his body and alert his mind, a headache thumping in the back of his skull.

Licking his lips once more, Castrin walked past the letter and out of the room to start writing his letter to the one person he needed the most, leaving the paper with Yagein Washli's signature at the bottom abandoned on the ground.

"Bloody curses, I can't do this!"

Bloodshot red eyes opened widely, scanning the walls of the rather crowded living room they both stood in. Clammy hands, sweaty and shaking, settled around the material of her dress, scrunching up the rather rumpled silk in her hand.

Golden eyes flickered past the exhausted figure of the young woman crumpling to the ground, her ragged breaths meeting her sensitive ears. "Just close your eyes and think of something calm. Something that can contain your magic."

The Mind Siphon watched with a sense of serenity, her tall figure standing a few feet away from Alesandria's as she watched the poor girl contort with pain, her long nails digging into the floorboard as the crack of her spine echoed through the air.

A torrid scream escaped from her lips, the outline of her veins cracking through her skin as an arm wrapped around her stomach, clenching it with such force as she convinced herself not to fall into defeat.

Yet as the daunting pain grew, Alesandria realized this power that she has been possessed with was only going to consume her each day, even as she adapted to it, it would only grow stronger until she was its prisoner.

"Fight it, Alesandria. You can not let your powers consume your abilities to sustain them" Onyx encouraged, running her fingers through her hair as she watched the brunette struggle on the floor, beads of sweat glistening down the bridge of her nose.

Peace, tranquility. Peace, tranquility. The brunette searched for this inside her mind, thinking of a time, a place where she could feel no fear and her body could feel no pain. A place where she could feel numb altogether.

But as she lost control over her powers and let the slippery feeling slide through her veins, she realized the only place that provided her the peace and tranquility she so desperately searched for was the empty, aching hole deep inside her soul, throbbing with each second passing.

"I-I just can't. I can't do it!" she cried out, wrapping her arms around her knees as she closed her eyes and let the magic do the rest. The feeling of life being drawn out of her was numbing, the straight gold lines of her magic whipping out in exaggerated lines as they lashed out in at anything and everything.

The sound of glass shattering, fire crackling and the thick smell of burning coal lingered around the room, a thump vibrating on the floor as a body hit the ground. And all she could do was hide her face behind her hands and cry.

A croak escaped Onyx's lips as she plastered her palms against the wooden floors, pushing herself up. A headache formed in the back of her mind, her bones shaking within her own body. Golden eyes lingered around the room, examining the damage of several broken vases and an ember that was dying out on the shredded red carpet.

Running her hand against the Ruge that was still imprinted on her arm, she sighed and got up, walking over to the carpet where she stomped out the flames with her boots before walking over to a shaking Alesandria, her cold fingers making contact with her shaking wrist.

"I guess the Skaeu dibts are not effective then" the Mind Siphon whispered to the brunette, prying her hands down from her face to meet her watery eyes. "I'm sorry. I just can't find that place of tranquility. I've never had it" Alesandria explained, taking Onyx's hand as the magical being sat her up straighter.

"And while that might be" the Siphon explained, resting one knee on the floor while elevating the other, "You have to find something, think of someone that makes you feel safe. It's the only trick to containing your powers."

A frustrated sigh escaped the brunette's lips, her wrists twisting away from the Mind Siphon's deadly grip as she ran her fingers through her long hair, unknotting the twists of hairs that clumped together. "That may be easy for you but not me."

The comment drilled into the Mind Siphon's brain, raising her brows in a questioning manner as she pushed her hair aside so the strands wouldn't cover her face. "And what's that suppose to mean? You know nothing of me."

Another frustrated groan escaped from Alesandria's lips, her gray eyes no longer meeting those golden orbs of Onyx's as a mask of anger contorted onto her face. The wrinkled silk of her dress sat at her feet, covering her scarred legs that she has constantly been hiding for years.

"And you know nothing of me Onyx" she spoke, the grittiness in her voice visible even as she spoke through locked teeth. "Peace, tranquility...it doesn't work for me because I've never experienced that! These Skaeu dibts don't work for me! Magical spells don't work for me! What would work for me is a damn reverse on this cursed power that has fallen upon me!"

The anger in her voice vibrated throughout the room, hot tears streaking down her face in fast rivers, brushing past her flushed cheeks and shaking lips. Her body crumpled up once again, arms folded around her legs as she buried her face in her knees, her shoulders shaking as more sobs shook her body.

The pain in the Mind Siphon's heart was undeniable, still present even as the thin line of the mental bond inside her mind began to teeter, shake just a tiny bit. Her arm that was imprinted with the Ruges were burning, cold fingers grazing past her hot skin.

"Alesa?" A voice, soft and sweet came from the other side of the room and captured both the Mind Siphon's and the brunette's attention. Alesandria raised her head, her gray eyes searching until they met the dark brown ones of her brother.

"Eros" she muttered underneath her breath, raising her hand up to wipe the tear that threatened to run down her face. Sniffling, she pulled herself off the floor and walked over to her brother in quick strides, the skirt of her dress gathered in her hand.

Onyx watched with sober eyes, the way Alesandria's arms wrapped around her little brother as she picked him up and placed a kiss on his forehead, rubbing his back in a gentle manner. "I thought you were sleeping" she stated, running her fingers through her hair.

"But I woke up. I'm hungry" he pouted, flashing her a toothy grin as he said so. That managed to conjure a smile out of the brunette's lips, a hearty laugh following afterward. "Alright. I think there might be some leftover rice in the kitchen. Come on."

And with that, the two disappeared, talking in Sacri as they did so.

Grunting, Onyx sighed and pulled herself off the floor, not longer able to ignore that burning sensation that slithered up her arm as the thin line in her mind trembled with impatience.

Damn Rheynoak.

Walking over to another side of the room and snuggling herself between two corners of the hallway, she gently closed her eyes and allowed him to come through. "What do you want, you unbearable idiot?" she hissed through the bond, crossing her arms over her chest.

Laughter rang throughout her mind, his deep voice vibrating down the line that connected them. "Always good to hear from you Onyx but the last time I checked, you were supposed to be back by now."

"Rheynoak, her powers are out of control. I'm trying to help her gain better control of her magic before we come back" the Siphon explained, raising her hand up to push her hair aside.

"Look at you playing the innocent role for once" he snarled at her, the shivering feeling of his breath grazing past her neck enough to make Onyx jump. "But I gave you a month to capture her and bring her back not to tame her like an animal."

Oh, that son of a bitch. Like he would have treated her any better. Rheynoak was practically a walking punishment and Onyx knew if she ever handed Alesandria over to that awful being, she might as well stab her in the gut with a knife.

"Oh please, like you would have treated her better" the Siphon said, rolling her eyes at the comments that he murmured underneath his breath every time she spoke. "Bite me."

"Oh trust me, I would gladly oblige to that and more." His voice was almost like a whisper, so real and present that the Mind Siphon could practically feel it down the slope of her neck. "But an order is an order. I gave you a month to complete the mission. It's been two and a half weeks already and you are still not back."

A scoff escaped the Siphon's lips, her leg raising up to plaster against the dark, dirty walls, her arms falling to her sides to plant themselves at her hips. "Listen to yourself" she uttered, her disgust prominent. "I want to actually help Alesandria contain her powers so I will stay here for five months if I have to. I'm not dead yet."

The defense in her voice was surprising, the bond between the two shaking without a single breath uttered as those words zipped down the line and back to his side of the connection. There seemed to be nothing but silence waiting for her, an empty dark space filled with nothing.

Frustrated, the two Siphons waited on the other end in complete silence for each other, each preoccupied with thoughts they only thought about when others weren't around. The Mind Siphon casted her golden eyes down to the Ruges on her arm, her nail tracing the intricate patterns laced together as she thought back on the mission she had abandoned.

Her mind was so preoccupied with too many things that she couldn't count that her attention had completely strayed from her own personal project. She couldn't even remember the last time she had sat down and opened a book that could reveal things about her past that she didn't know.

The joyful laughter of Alesandria and Eros in the living room snapped the Mind Siphon out of her trance and in pure satisfaction, she peeled herself off the wall and cracked her knuckles loudly. "We're not done with this conversation" Rheynoak seethed between the bond, his blazing hazel eyes temporarily flickering in her vision.

Yet Onyx only rolled her eyes and hissed, "Yeah, well I'm done with you" before cutting off the connection by putting back up her mental walls that kept him out from lurking within the darkest depths of her mind.

Running her fingers through her chin length hair, Onyx took a deep breath and walked out of her little corner and back into the living room where Eros was sitting on the red carpet, a small plate of rice and a turkey leg sitting in front of him.

Alesandria helped him settle, draping a warm blanket around her brother and placing a small kiss on his head. The young boy, no older that eight, giggled, locks of his chestnut brown hair falling over his brown eyes. "When will mommy be home?" he asked her as he ladled the spoon of rice into his mouth.

A moment's pause and Onyx could see the undecipherable cloud of complexity cloud her gray eyes, turning her once precious gems into nothing but dull stones. "She'll be back before sundown" she uttered, kissing his forehead once again. "You know how her long trips to the forest always go. She has to get the fresh vegetation before the heavy snow. She'll be back love."

Eros nodded, hugging the blanket closer to him as his fingers picked and tore a piece of turkey off the bone and placed it in his mouth. His gray eyes, the same hue of his sister's, looked up and met the golden orbs of the Mind Siphon. He waved at her gently, a smile pulling on his lips. "Onyx, you look nice today. The sun matches your eyes."

A small laugh escaped out of the Siphon's lips, grateful for spending the last few days not only helping Alesandria but getting to know Eros as well. He was bright, too bright for a five-year-old and his innocent, pure view of the world was something Onyx always envied after.

Kneeling down in front of him, she reached out and ruffled his soft hair. "You know, maybe I will be able to teach you those moves after all. You've grown!" she exclaimed, watching as the young boy laughed joyfully.

"Only by a teeny bit" he exclaimed, leaving a small gap between his fingers to show how much he has grown. "But I want to be big and powerful like you and Alesandria!"

The comment was more insulting that flattering, the golden eyes of the Siphon looking up to meet those still dull eyes of the brunette. Her arms were crossed over her chest, her eyes still red from crying too much. The Mind Siphon could tell the statement didn't settle well with her.

If only this poor boy knew how such a seemingly amazing power could rain down such a murderous destruction upon its own wielders, making their life an eternal hell. Still, the Siphon mustered a smile on her lips for Eros before standing up.

Leaving him to eat, Onyx turned around and stepped over a shattered vase to see Alesandria standing there with her hands clasped and a distressed look on her face. "Sometimes his enthusiasm worries me" she uttered, reaching up to tuck a strand of her dark hair behind her ear.

"He's a little kid. They exaggerate everything" the Mind Siphon reassured, looking over her shoulder to see the young boy mindlessly play with the pieces of turkey left in his hand. A laugh escaped his lips as he ate the turkey strips, licking his lips of any leftovers.

"I know but he thinks this power is such a blessing" the brunette explained, walking around in her little space back and forth, the silk of her dress dragging against the floor. "I don't have the heart to tell him it's the opposite. He's so young and so bright."

The regret, the hopelessness in her voice was enough for Onyx to reach out and rest her hand on the curve of her shoulder. Alesandria stopped moving, her feet planted in place as her eyes darted down to the arm on her shoulder before moving to the Siphon's cold gaze. "Don't lose hope. Trust me, it's going to be your best friend for a while."

Realizing that even she couldn't swallow down her own words and consider them for herself, the Siphon let her arm fall from the brunette's shoulder, her sensitive ears picking up on a frequency, a noise far away that was drawing nearer.

"I'm sorry for snapping earlier. I-"

The Mind Siphon stopped her before she could finish, shaking her head at her. "Don't worry about it. It happens. I pushed you and you pushed back" she explained walking over towards one of the walls, letting her back sink into the old bricks. "It's actually a great tactic."

A glimmer, a shine of a smile pulled at Alesandria's lips as she swayed in her place, her gray eyes cautiously looking down at her shaking fingers and arms that were outlined with blue veins. The sparkle of sweat shined against her collarbone, soaking the neck of her dress.

"So, when is your mother suppose to come back?" Onyx asked, pressing her palms against the wall. The simple pants she had borrowed rubbed against the wall, sticking to her thighs. Her sword that was usually strapped at her side was missing, cleaned and wrapped in a leather shield and hiding under the pillow she had provided her with.

"Later tonight. Usually, she is out for several days when she has to gather vegetation before the heavy snowfall starts" the girl explained, sitting herself down

Intertwining her fingers together, the Siphon casted her golden eyes towards the door, letting her eyes slip shut for a moment as she let her mind race, her senses heightening as they listened to the soft breeze of the wind blowing outside. A chill ran up her spine, the once calm stream of her power flowing through her veins nearly stopping to just one heartbeat.

Any fully developed Mind Siphon's magic was usually calm and quiet once the being was relaxed or asleep, giving it time to regenerate and grow stronger. Considering the fact that the last time she actually slept well was when she was in her mother's womb, the Siphon took the few minutes she had to relax.

Yet there was something bothering her senses, something that made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up and the blood in her body rush through her veins at an incredulous speed. An energy, a feeling of fear was blended into a distant sound, the pitter patter of footsteps on cobblestones.

Onyx let her senses ease into the energy racing towards their direction, the uneasy feeling of danger slipping up her spine and burying itself within her mind. Unable to shake the threatening feeling off of her body, she finally gave up on sleep, seeing that wish was only in a paradise she dreamed of being in.

"You know, I don't know that much about you" Alesandria pointed out as the Mind Siphon stood up, inching her way towards the door. Her eyes barely paid any attention to the brunette taking her brother's empty plate and placing it on a nearby table before wrapping him in a blanket and placing him on a plush chair.

"There's nothing to know" the Siphon assured her, pressing her back against the wooden door, her golden eyes bent on the small window near her. The sun had long disappeared behind the dark horizon, the last rays of the day sparkling in the sky before dimming.

The sky was a mirage of colors, the plush clouds calling for a rather unpleasant weather. Sundown. Alesandria's mom would be home soon. No, she should have been home by now.

Another dark chill shook her bones.

"Well, there has to be something interesting about you. You are a Mind Siphon after all" the dark-haired beauty said, making herself comfortable as she sat down on the red carpet. Again the Mind Siphon tuned her out, listening to the drawing energy that kept growing stronger, the sound of footsteps echoing inside her mind as it drew closer.

The magical energy tumbling towards them was magnetically powerful, a force too powerful to be reckoned with. It shook Onyx's bones, her powers rippling with fear as her vision clouded with nothing but starry grayness.

And it was heading straight towards them.

"Your mother should have been home by now" the Siphon said, peeling herself off the back of the door as she faced the wooden entrance. "The forest isn't too far from here." A scoff escaped the brunette's lips, her shoulder shrugging as she did so. "The town square can be pretty busy sometimes at night" she informed, pulling the silk of her dress away from her feet.

Again, the Mind Siphon shook her head, standing there in silence as she listened to the sound of footsteps draw nearer, faster and more frantic. The magical energy grew more magnetic, almost weakening the Siphon as her knees began to buckle.

"The town square is still bloody. No one in their right mind could possibly be there around this time" the Siphon said, curling her fingers until her nails dug into the soft skin of her palms. The room remained quiet, Alesandria watching as the Mind Siphon's face contorted into a mask of worry.

The footsteps, the magnetic magic. It was coming closer, ten seconds...seven seconds away.

In such a hushed voice, not even a soul close to her could hear Onyx uttered, "Take cover."

"What? I don't understand" Alesandria said, pushing herself off of the floor. But again in a stronger voice with a demanding edge to it, the Siphon instructed once again, "Take cover!"

Shielding her eyes away from the door, Onyx's knees buckled to the ground as a blinding magnetic energy connected with the weak forces of the door and a blinding light burst through the small home. A light, an energy so blinding, so painful, so powerful shook the tiny house that the door split into pieces the minute it came in contact with the magnetic energy.

A scream rang throughout the house, Onyx's body colliding with the wall as her spine practically snapped underneath the powerful forces of the magic. Her head smacked against the concrete area of the wall before her body fell to the floor, the dribble of scarlet blood staining the side of her face.

"Alesandria! Take Eros away from here! I'll handle this!" she instructed, placing her palms on the floor on the floor and pushing herself up to face the intruders. A whimper was heard through the chaotic scene and footsteps retreated, leaving Onyx completely alone and vulnerable to an attack.

The blinding light of the magnetic energy had dimmed, the crackling of magic in the air seizing to a halt as the Mind Siphon's vision steadied, immediately going to the floor to see a body, barely alive and covered in blood and scars. Brown hair covered her face, the material of her red dress torn but she could tell it was Parcia, Alesandria's mother.

"This is what she gets for raising such a filthy curse in her own home!" a hoarse voice croaked, capturing the Siphon's attention as she looked up. Townsfolk of all kind, immortal and mortal stood at the doorstep, hungry eyes filled with blood vengeance. Even with the crowd, the Siphon could count at least twenty to thirty powerful magic beings.

The magnetic energy, so strong and weakening came from those magic beings. SilverClaw Witches, Storm Whisperers, Dark Magic Summoners, Magrus. It was all them. Although she couldn't assume the exact scenario, Onyx could tell that they had combined their magic and attacked Parcia, other beings joining in as well as they chased her around town.

"Says the immortals that are damned and shunned by all the people of Asxairo" Onyx hissed, reaching down to move Parcia's body over to a dark corner where she would be safe. A hiss came from Storm Whisperer, his diamond fangs bared out for all to see. "Just give us the girl and walk away" the magic being hissed, pushing her way through the crowd to face the Mind Siphon. "Unless you die too."

As if. Such an empty, hollow threat from an incompetent, foolish magic being that should have died a long time ago. If the storm wanted to play, she would happily destroy it to pieces.

Keeping her gaze locked on the Whisperer, the Siphon reached down and quickly locked her fingers around his wrist, the magic in her veins illuminating a sapphire blue as she came in contact with his flesh. Her powers desired to penetrate his mind, to dodge his walls and sink deep into his thoughts.

But even talking to a Whisperer was such a breath wasted for her.

A hiss came from the Storm Whisperer as his skin blistered from her touch, his fangs doing nothing but hiss at her. He tried to bite her fingers, the sharpened edge of his teeth merely nicking a part of her wrist but the Mind Siphon was quicker, grabbing him by the throat with her other hand.

"Damn you bitch!" he hissed at her, dark orange eyes glistening with fear, his orbs clouded by a fog of insecurity and mindless wishes and pleas.

The others gathered at the door did nothing but watch, waiting for a move, a strike, an excuse to start a bloody war in the small home. Sinking her nails into his throat, the Siphon simply smiled and drew his twitching body close, her mouth grazing his ear as she whispered, "That is exactly what I am. A damned bitch."

And with that, she allowed her strength to take control, her nails splitting the skin of his neck open before weaving their way through blood and muscle. A torrid scream escaped his lips, the veins around his neck shriveling as her nails finally came in contact with his bone and she raised him up and threw him against the wall.

The crack of bones shattering was blissful to her ears, her golden orbs watching as he struggled to take his last breath, his broken body falling to the floor as scarlet blood dripped from the wound around his neck.

A smile lit Onyx's lips, her eyes drifting back to the seething crowd before they attacked in a blinding rage.

It seemed as if eternity had passed, the claws of Witches, Magrus, and Whisperers along with some mortal beings pulling at her flesh until it tore under pressure. The magic beings weakened her with their magic, her knees buckling as she dropped to the floor once again, her fingers shaking.

They were more powerful than her, their combined powers enough to wipe out an entire kingdom with one snap of their fingers. They were stronger, faster, more aggressive. Yet Onyx refused to give up as she stood on her feet once more and allowed her powers to consume her whole.

She didn't remember passing through the minds the immortals and mortals, finding their weaknesses and ultimately using her own bare teeth and hands to tear them apart. She didn't remember how she fell down so many times yet was able to pick herself back up again and throw herself into a war she was losing.

She didn't remember how her muscles ached with each strike of magic that rattled her body. She didn't remember, she didn't want to. She simply took a deep breath, let her veins illuminate the sapphire hue of her indestructible source, and attacked.

It was a blood war, guts and heads being ripped off one by one as Onyx barbarously let her teeth and hands do all the work, her nails ripping into stomachs and necks and stripping them to nothing but a few strips of flesh.

Cries, blood cries and screams and pleas filled her ears, immortals and mortals falling down one by one to their graves as she completely destroyed and wrecked them to pieces. She was an animal, a machine, a bloodthirsty warrior who only saw red and black some through her eyes. And she wouldn't stop until every last bit of blood was drained from all these pathetic bodies.

It was only when Onyx was being pinned against her own will by a Black Magru, the slithery immortal being sinking their serpent like nails into her skin did her eyes notice the silhouette of Alesandria being mangled by the remaining survivors.

"We've got her! We have the girl!" one excited Witch shouted as she pulled at the Dark-haired beauty's arm. The others around her snarled, one mortal being holding Alesandria by her throat as they attempted to rip her to pieces.

The poor girl struggled against the forces that were holding her back, a scream ripping from her throat as one of the SilverClaw Witches attempted to drag her towards the door by her neck, their sharp nails digging into her throat.

Scarlet blood pooled at the tip of her mouth, her lips stained with bruises as they all dragged her towards the door. Hands, claws tore at her clothes, pulling at her hair until strands fell out.

Onyx watched in horror, her lungs burning for air as the brunette collapsed against the floor, unable to walk anymore in her weak state. She could see the way her nails dug into the floor, curling around an object in her hand.

Turning her attention back to the Black Magru that held her in position, the Mind Siphon decided to rely on her own strength and skill, planting her nearly numb feet against the hard wall before pushing herself off so that the back of her boot connected with the immortal's face.

A scream came from the Magru, followed by the crunch of blood and the spilling of black blood against the floor. The Magru collapsed, still conscious, as it curled its hands around its broken face.

Immediately, the Mind Siphon headed towards the crowd that taunted and teased the poor girl, throwing rocks and sharp objects at her as they chanted ancient songs. The dark-haired beauty only sat still, a dagger curled in her grip as she cried, the veins in her arms illuminating gold.

Killing her way through the crowd, the Mind Siphon managed to reach the girl, a head dangling in her arm. Shielding her eyes away from the crowd, she whispered to the shaking brunette, "Alesandria, run! Run and never look back!"

The brunette shook her head, placing the cold dagger in Onyx's hand as she did so. Her gray eyes, flooded with worry and tears, flickered across the beings that hated her. The ones that wanted her gone.

"I can't leave Eros here" she sobbed, not bothering to wipe the tears that streaked down her face, "He needs someone to take care of him. He only has me, Onyx. I can't do that." Her voice cracked at the last few words, her eyes flickering back down on the ground.

Staring at the dagger in her hand, the crafted steel shining even after the sun had set, an idea materialized in her head.It was a stretch, a reach but it had to work. Licking her lips, the Siphon whispered to Alesandria, "Use your magic. It's the only thing powerful enough to get rid of everyone."

"I can't! My emotions have to be triggered in order for it to be powerful enough to destroy everyone" Alesandria pleaded, pushing herself off the floor and weaving her way through the crowd that pulled at her tattered clothes. There weren't many magical beings left, only Storm Whisperers but even Onyx could tell they were hanging close to death. The others were mortal beings from the market, a mask of anger on their red faces.

The remaining crowd chased after them as they ran down a short hallway and took a sharp turn to the right, Alesandria tripping over something hard as her face collided with the floor. Her head smacked against the floor, her fingers and body shaking with tears as she scrambled up. Onyx offered her hand but she refused it, letting her gaze travel down to the obstacle.

A gasp left her lips, a hand curling around a limp arm as she moved closer to the object. Slowly, she turned the head over as gasped, the face of her mother covered in dry blood and bruises, her brown hair matted to her forehead. She seemed relatively gone, her body not moving even as Alesandria shook her. A sob left her lips, her veins illuminating gold once again as she held her mother's body close to her, tears streaming down her face in an endless river.

Seeing the look in her eyes, how it blazed with fire and anger, Onyx simply stepped back and braced herself for the worst as the dark-haired beauty simply let a war cry escape her lips, shattering past the noise-consuming atmosphere as she screamed for all the world to her. "Mother! No, don't leave me!"

Those simple words seemed to have ignited something within her, the brilliant gold in her veins illuminating until her magic showed themselves in a wave of brilliant lights spun from gold. Her magic lashed out at anyone and everyone, the screams of her victims dying out as they were too occupied by the weapons of death that beat them down, rising above the Storm Whisperers powers.

Onyx simply shielded herself away from the chaos, hiding in a small corner, keeping one eye open as she observed the scene from her peripheral vision. Alesandria was truly a stunning weapon, the way her magic showed itself in waves and lights of brilliantly spun lines as they attacked with no instructions, driven by anger and sorrow.

Soon as her powers combined into one, magnetic ball of power, rising to their enemies. With one last ear-splitting scream from Alesandria, her powers simply grew and imploded on itself, sending a wave of death across the tiny home.

Screams of her victims, followed by blood spilling and bone crunching was heard before nothing but silence reigned once again. Even the crunch of Onyx's boots against broken debris as she came out from her spot seemed to be quiet.

The whole house was a war zone, broken pieces of glass everywhere, furniture thrown, dying embers eating the red carpet away. The windows were shattered, the glass littering the floors. The dirt from the flowers pots mixed in with the blood of all the fallen victims, creating a rather repulsive stench.

Tattered bodies with torn flesh and bones breaking through their arms and legs laid still and dead, some still bleeding from the wounds that have been inflicted on them. Mouths were ripped open, jaws dislocated, and neck twisted until the practically hung off the victims' body by a single vein.

Pieces of the ceiling were beginning to break apart, the walls completely eroded and concave in. Little bits of the magnetic energy lingered around the atmosphere, the suffocating air thick and smoky.

Walking over to Alesandria who held her mother in her arms as she cried, the Mind Siphon leaned down, placing a hand on her shoulder as she did so. The dark-haired beauty looked up, her gray eyes watering with tears. "What am I going to do? I can't leave her like this. I can't!" she cried, running her fingers through her hair.

"We have to get you out of here. This village is not a safe place for you or your family right now" Onyx explained, nodding with each word that came out of her mouth. "Your family needs protection and you need a lot of training."

"I'm not leaving my family. I-I can't" the brunette whispered, shaking her head violently. "Please don't make me leave them. They need me more than ever." Her voice died at the last few words, a whimper escaping her lips.

The Mind Siphon took a deep breath, placing both of her hands on the girl's face. Golden eyes lingered around her face, taking in the dark bruises underneath her eyes and how her long, dark hair covered her pale face smothered in blood. Her face was sunken in, her cheekbones accentuated. She had grown frailer, her ribs poking out from the tattered dress she wore, her collarbones protruding from her skin, and her stomach sunken in as well. Her skinny arms were weaker, veins and bones poking underneath the skin.

The poor girl was weak, starving, frail, and broke. She didn't have any strength left and looked as if she was one step away from her deathbed. Yet she still refused to give up on the few things that kept her sanity together. She had that fire, that spark that kept her going which was admirable, impressive even to an emotionless being like Onyx herself.

"Listen, you want to keep your family safe right?" she asked in a serious tone, never breaking their gaze. Alesandria nodded, raising her hand to wipe away her tears. "More than anything" she replied back, clearing her throat.

"Good. I know you do and they will be safe" Onyx assured, following the brunette's hazy gray eyes as her gaze traveled down to her mother who was still and silent, not even a breath escaping her lips. "She will be fine, Eros will be fine" she continued, letting her hands fall from her face.

The brunette sniffled, her gray hazy eyes looking up to meet the golden, deep orbs of the Mind Siphon as she nodded, raising her hand once again to wipe her tear-streaked face, her bony fingers grazing past a lock of dark hair.

"But for now, we have to get you out of here."

A/N: And that is the end of another chapter! I am sorry for the wait. I have been going through a little bit of stress lately and my life has been a bit hectic. But I will be more active now that things are much more tamed.

This chapter was prolonged for too long and it was so much longer than I had expected it to be. But with that, I am proud of this chapter!

This chapter was very long, around 7,700 words to be exact but the amount of detail that I put into it was completely worth it! And you all know how I love my details.

So today, we got to meet Alesandria's little brother Eros and he's just the cutest more adorable thing in the world! He's going to be a reoccurring character along with Parcia and a lot more secrets are going to revealed!

I love how this chapter shows how Onyx and Alesandria can work together despite their differences and they are both willing to protect each other.

But the attack was so sudden and brutal, poor Alesandria getting attacked for her differences not to mention her mother being a scapegoat for it all, leaving Alesandria in a complete state of shock and broken.

I pray for both of them.

In case any of y'all want to know what Eros looks like....here he is!

SOOO CUTE!!!

Thank you guys for all your constant support. It means so much to me that you enjoy this book. I enjoy writing it and to hear your feedback always makes my day!

Until next time Lovelies!

With love, May
