1. In My Time of Dying
"A storm's coming, and you kids, you're daddy-- you're smack in the middle of it."
Then...
Mary Winchester rushes into her son's nursery before screaming in terror. John Winchester looks up from his son's crib to see his wife pinned to the roof, before spontaneously catching on fire.
John grabs his son before handing him to his oldest son, Dean. "Take your brother outside as fast as you can. Now, Dean, go!"
John rushed outside and grabs Dean, who was holding Sam, and rushing out of the way before the house burst into flames.
***
"Dad wants us to pick up where he left off. Saving people, hunting things, the family business."
***
"Willow Salvatore, at your service."
***
"Why do you always try to help me? Why do you always try and get me to see the good in me when there isn't any?!"
"Not all monsters do monstrous things. Willow, I... I like you, a lot. And I know you feel something for me too, you're just too scared to act on them because of what happened to your brothers. But I'm not gonna betray you. Please, take a leap of faith and let me in. I promise you won't regret it."
Willow walks away, but stops herself.
"Fuck it."
She turns around and grabs Sam and pulls his lips down to hers.
***
"I want you to change me back."
"You really want to make a deal with the devil? I want to know your reason."
"Is he... Human? Is that why you want to change? So you don't crave his blood, so you can have little pups with him? Get married?"
"Change. Me. Back."
"No, I want to see you fight this. Give me an invitation to the boy's funeral when you kill him."
***
"Our whole lives we've been searching for this demon."
***
"Samuel Colt made a gun."
"I know because I helped make it."
"They say this gun can kill anything. We finally know where this demon is gonna be, and now we know how to kill it."
***
"I'm waiting, Johnny. Better answer before the buzzer. This wooden stake is looking pretty nice embedded inside Stefan's chest."
***
"More and more demons are walking among us."
***
"You're not my dad."
"What the hell is going on?"
"We think he's possessed."
***
"My plans for you and Willow, Sammy-- you two... and all of the children like you."
***
"It's inside me. I can feel it. Shoot me. I can't hold onto it much longer."
***
"Why didn't you kill it?"
"We still got the colt. We still have the one bullet left--"
The Impala is hit and dragged off of the road.
Now...
The possessed semi-truck driver exits the vehicle and walks to the Impala. All of the Winchester's were unconscious and hurt, but there was no sign of Stefan or Willow.
Sam, hearing footsteps, quickly becomes alert as he opens his eyes. The demon grabs the driver's door and rips it off, looking at Sam who had the colt pointed at him.
"Get back or I'll kill you. I swear to God," Sam hisses. The demon smirks smugly.
"You won't. You're saving that bullet for someone else."
Sam cocks the gun, holding it up more confidently, "You want to bet?"
The demon smiles evilly, but before he can do a thing, there's a flash of light that burns him, causing him to turn around. Willow stood there, her eyes glowing a piercing blue as she stared at the demon in a way that made her appear to overpower everyone around her.
The demon stepped back in fear, looking at the hybrid, "D-Diana."
'Willow' lifted her head in a confident way before she ordered, "Step away from the hunters and I won't have to kill you."
Her voice was different. It was overpowering, confident, almost the voice of a ruler talking to her subject. And that's how she acted. That this creature was just the dirt she walked on.
The demon wasted no time in releasing the human from his possession, the demon forming a giant cloud in the air, before disappearing. Willow, too, fell to the ground unconscious and hurt. Stefan stumbled over to her, having been the one to get her out in time, but was also still hurt, and fell down next to her.
Sam put the safety back on the gun and sighed in relief. The man the demon had possessed lifted himself up and looked around at the scene horrified.
"Oh, my god," he exclaimed.
"Dad..." Sam panted, trying to wake his father.
"Did I do this?" the man asked shakily, but Sam ignored him.
"Dad..." When he didn't answer, Sam turned his head to the backseat. "Dean." He then looked over to Stefan who was hovering over will. "Stefan, is she okay?"
Stefan grunted in pain as he looked up, but shook his head, "She was too badly injured before, that crash didn't help her. I don't know if she's gonna make it."
Sam panted, desperately trying to move as Stefan tried to wake his sister.
"Willow... Willow!"
***
The next morning, a helicopter team from a hospital came and picked up the Winchester's. Stefan had taken Willow away to try and heal her on his own, seeing it would raise questions if she went to the hospital.
Sam shouted repeatedly if his father or brother were okay, but the paramedics did little to answer the young Winchester.
***
Willow woke with a gasp, sitting up in the dusty bed she was laying in. Stefan quickly walked into the room with a clear glass of blood, setting it on the old side table before checking her over.
"Hey, are you okay?" he asked her. Willow tried to catch her breath while she looked around confused and panicked.
"Where are we? Where's Sam and Dean? John?" she asked frantically while she moved to stand, but grunted as soon as she got on her feet as her body began to ache in pain. Stefan moved his hands to help steady her.
"Hey, take it easy. We were in a car crash. They got taken to the hospital and I brought you here," Stefan explained as he grabbed the glass and held it out to Will.
She took it instantly and downed it in one gulp, sighing as she felt the aches begin to slowly fade. She put the glass down before heading to a chair that had her chair thrown over it. By the dust and cobwebs, she guessed they were in some abandoned vacation home. She pulled her jacket on before turning to Stefan.
"What hospital are they at?"
***
Sam started to come to groggily, his head was fuzzy and his vision still blurry. His head had a dull ache, as well as his legs and chest. He started to blink rapidly, trying to clear his vision. He could hear the faint beeping from a heart monitor. He saw a blurry figure sitting beside him, holding what looked like a glass of water.
"Oh, thank god you're okay," he heard a voice exclaim relieved. He soon recognized it as Willow as his vision began to clear up.
She looked fully healed, yet her clothing still had some blood stains and torn parts. She put the glass on the table beside the bed, before wrapping her arms around Sam's neck, hugging him tightly.
"I thought I'd lost you. I don't know what I would have done if I lost you. Don't ever scare me like that ever, you hear me, Winchester? Never again," she spoke quickly, but you could hear she was holding back tears as her voice was trained.
Sam croaked a chuckle, pulling her away so he could kiss her. She pulled away from the kiss and rested her forehead on his.
"I'm okay. No need to get sappy on me," Sam joked, moving a piece of hair from her face. She laughed, wiping a tear from her eye as she sat up. Sam looked around before he realized where he was, and sat up panicked.
"Where's Dean and my dad?" he asked, but groaned in pain as he clutched his chest. Will pushed him back to lay him down.
"Hey, relax. You're dad's fine, he just hasn't woken up yet. But they haven't let us see Dean yet because we're not family," Will explained. Sam looked confused on the 'we' part, but looked over to see Stefan sat in a chair in the corner of the room. He then looked to his girlfriend.
"Why? Where is he?"
Will looked at Sam sadly, not answering.
"Where's Dean, Will?"
~~~~~~~~
"Sam! Sammy, wait!" Will tried to call after the hunter, but the man wouldn't stop as he moved towards his brother's room. By the time she had caught up with him, Sam was already staring at him older brother in anguish.
"Oh, no," Sam muttered, walking over and looking at Dean's unconscious body, hooked up to tubes needles. "Can't you or Stefan heal him?"
Will couldn't help but feel her heart break at the expression Sam was wearing. "I could give him my blood, but there is a very high chance that he could die with it in his system. Then, he'd be like us. He wouldn't want that."
Suddenly, a doctor knocked on the door. "Your father's awake. You can go see him if you like."
Sam looked at his feet for a moment, before hesitantly asking, "Doc, what about my brother?"
"Well, he sustained serious injury-- blood loss, contusions to his liver and kidney. But it's the head trauma I'm worried about. There's early signs of cerebral edema."
"Well, what can we do?" Will asked desperately. She didn't want to lose a brother again, and she was sure Sam didn't either.
"Well, we won't know his full condition until he wakes up," the doctor states before solemnly adding, "If he wakes up."
Sam's eyes widened, "If?"
"I have to be honest. Most people with his degree of injury wouldn't have survived this long. He's fighting very hard. But you need to have realistic expectations, kids."
As the doctor left, Will stepped in front of Sam as he looked at his feet numbly. She pulled him into a tight hug, running her fingers through his hair. Sam seemed to relax some as he hugged her tightly around the waist, breathing her scent from her neck.
"He's gonna be fine, Sammy. He's a Winchester. He'll pull through."
***
"All right, here. Give them my insurance," John said as he handed Sam a card from his wallet. Sam looked at it. He couldn't help but smile amused.
"Elroy McGillicuddy?" Sam teased. John smiled.
"And his two loving sons," John added, causing Will to chuckle lowly. "So... what else did the doctor say about Dean?"
Sam shook his head, "Nothing," he said, looking down at is father who was laying in his hospital bed. "Look, if the doctors won't do anything, and Will and Stefan can't help him, then we'll have to-- that's all. I don't know, I'll find some... hoodoo priest and lay some mojo on him."
"We'll look for someone," Will reassured. Sam looked at him girlfriend who put a hand on his shoulder and grabbed his, kissing her knuckles before lacing their fingers.
"Yeah."
"But, Sam..." John started. "I don't know if we're gonna find anyone."
"Why not?" Sam asked like a confused child. Will sighed, closing her eyes. "We found that faith healer before."
"That was one in a million."
"So what? Do we just sit here with our thumbs up our ass?" Sam snaps.
"No, he said we'd look," Will defended John. "All right? We'll check under every stone."
Sam seemed to calm down after this.
"Where's the colt?" John suddenly asked. Sam glared at his father.
"Your son is dying and you're worried about the colt?" he scoffed.
"We are hunting this demon, and maybe it's hunting us, too. That gun may be our only card."
"It's in the trunk," Will stated. "They dragged the car to a yard off of I-83."
"All right, you two need to clean out that trunk before some junkman sees what's inside."
"I already called Bobby. He's like an hour out. He's gonna meet Stefan at the yard and tow the Impala back to his place," Sam explained.
"All right. You got meet up with Bobby and Stefan. You get that colt and bring it back to me. And you get Will fed so she can take care of hospital security."
Sam smirked, "I think I got it covered."
Sam stood up and the two began to walk to the door, but John stopped them.
"Hey, here. I made a list of things I need. Have Bobby pick them up for me," John ordered as he handed them a piece of paper. Sam took it and looked it over.
"Acacia?" Sam questioned confused, looking at the back. Will looked at it, too.
"Oil of Arbramelin?" Will asked suspiciously.
"It's protection," John explained. Sam nodded, looking at his father.
"Hey, Dad..." he trailed off. "You know the demon? He said he had plans for me and Willow and children like us. You have any idea what he meant by that?"
John shook his head, "No. I don't."
Sam nodded, before following Will out of the room.
He knows something, Will thought to herself.
***
"Oh man," Sam sighed as he and Willow walked towards the Impala, "Dean is gonna be pissed."
Bobby merely nodded, all three hunters looked at each other. Will sighed as she walked over to the crushed piece of ruble.
"Sammy, I don't know if this is worth the tow," she sighed as she looked at the car. Bobby lifted up the hood to look at the engine, before letting it fall, the hood coming off completely.
"I say we just empty the trunk, and sell the rest for scrap," Bobby suggested. Sam gave Bobby a look, pulling out his now ruined laptop.
"No," Sam denied, "Dean would kill me if we did that. When he gets better, he's gonna want to fix this."
Will raised a brow at him, "There's nothing to fix, Moose. The frame's a pretzel, the engine's ruined. There's barely any parts worth salvaging."
Sam gave them a look, "Now, listen to me, guys. If there's only one working part, that's enough. We're not just gonna give up on..."
Will and Bobby shared a look. They knew he wasn't only talking about the car. Will gave him a reassuring smile, "Okay. We won't give up."
Sam nodded, pulling out the paper that his father gave him, "Here, Dad asked if you could get this stuff for him," Sam told Bobby, holding out the paper.
Bobby took the paper and looked over the list, "What John want with this?"
"Protection from the demon," Sam stated. Will looked at the list again, before her and Bobby's eyes widened.
"What?" Sam asked worriedly. They looked at each other, before shaking their heads.
"Nothing, it's just..." Bobby trailed off, trying to find the words. That's when Stefan walked up to them from the building.
"We're good to tow this thing back," he then noticed the mood of the scene, "What's going on?"
Will sighed, not being able to look Sam in the eye.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Sam, wait," Will called after her boyfriend as he stormed through the hospital, bag in hand as he walked to his father's room. "Sam!"
As he entered the room, Will sighed, closing the door behind her.
"You're quiet," John noted, watching his son. Sam turned and glared at his father angrily, throwing the bag on the bed.
"You think I wouldn't find out?" he questioned.
"Sam-"
"Stay out of this, Willow!" Sam snapped.
"What are you talking about?" John feigned innocence.
"That stuff from Bobby," Sam stated, "You don't use it to ward off a demon-- you use it to summon one. You're planning on bringing the demon here, aren't you? Having some stupid, macho showdown!"
"I have a plan, Sam," John told his son sternly.
"That's exactly my point!" Sam shouted, causing Will to flinch, "Dean is dying, and you have a plan! You care more about killing this demon than you do saving your own son!"
"Do not tell me how I feel. I'm doing this for Dean," John snapped.
"How? How is revenge gonna help him? You're not thinking about anybody but yourself. It's the same selfish obsession!"
"That's funny. I thought this was your obsession, too," John retorted, "This demon killed your mother, killed your girlfriend. You were willing to let Will's brother die for this. You begged me to be part of this hunt! Now, if you had killed that damn thing when you had the chance, none of this would have happened," John shouted.
"It was possessing you, Dad, I would have killed you, too."
"Yeah, and your brother would be awake right now."
"JOHN!" Will yelled angrily. Sam glared at his father.
"Go to hell," Sam growled.
"You know what? I should have never taken you along in the first place. I knew it was a mistake."
Suddenly, the glass of water on John's desk flew off and hit the ground. All three hunters looked at it surprised. They all heard doctors and nurses rushing down the hall, catching their attention.
"Something's going on out there," John stated. Sam instantly ran down the hall, but Will stayed behind, watching John carefully.
"I know what you're up to," she stated. He glared at her.
"Then you know there's nothing you can do to stop me," he stated. She simply shook her head.
"I just have an offer," she said as she walked over and grabbed his hand in hers, "Let me make the deal."
John looked at her surprised, "Will, no-"
"John, your boys need you. I've told her before, my brother and I, we've lived. Believe it or not, you're barely starting. They can't lose their father."
"And they can't lose you. You may not know is, but you made a great impact on their lives, Willow."
Will sighed as Sam rushed into the room, looking frantic. Willow looked at him worriedly.
"Sam, what's wrong?"
***
"What do you mean you felt something?" John asked his son once he explained what had happened after Dean flat lined for a few short minutes.
"I mean, it felt like..." Sam trailed off, "Like Dean. Like he was there, just out of eyeshot or something."
John and Willow glanced at each other quickly.
"I don't know if it's my psychic thing or what. But do you think it's even possible?" Sam questioned, "Do you think his spirit could be around?"
"Anything's possible," Will answered. Sam nodded.
"Well, there's one way to find out," he stated as he made his way to the door.
"Where are you going?" Will asked him. He turned and looked at her.
"I gotta pick something up. I'll be back," Sam told her, giving her a smile.
"Wait, Sam," John stopped his son, "I promise I won't hunt this demon, not until we know Dean's okay."
Sam nodded, before he left the room. Will sighed, turning and giving John a stern look.
"I'm making the deal no matter what," she told him. He went to deny, but she stopped him, "The only reason I came along with them was to help them get you back. Well, they did. And I'm not about to let them lose you again. They can't lose anymore family."
"You're right, Will. But you need to understand that, now, you are family."
~~~~~~~~~~~
Will sighed as she walked into Dean's room with Sam, a paper bag in his hands.
"This is stupid. I don't see why I just use my wolf eyes and talk to him myself," she complained, crossing her arms over her chest. Sam gave her a stern look.
"Because you're already recovering. That will just take more of your strength. I won't lose you, too," he told her softly, holding her cheek in his hand. She gave him a small smile, before leaning up and pecking him on the lips.
"You won't, Moose," she lied smoothly. They walked over to the floor and sat down, crossing their legs. Sam took out the Ouija board from the bag and unboxed it, setting it on the floor, "This is so stupid."
"Hey! You said you wouldn't make fun of me," Sam laughed, nudging her side. She rolled her eyes, smiling.
"Dean's no doubt making fun of us now," she muttered as Sam set the triangle on the board and put his fingers of the left corner. He looked at Will expectantly. She sighed in defeat putting her fingers on the right, "I feel like I'm at a slumber party."
"Dean?" Sam called out. There was no response, "Dean, are you here?"
Will rolled her eyes, "I feel ridiculous."
Suddenly, the dial started to move towards the yes on the board. Their eyes widened.
"I'll be damned," Will muttered as Sam laughed happily.
"Oh, it's good to hear from you, Man," Sam sighed in relief, "It hasn't been the same without you, Dean."
"You got that right," Will added. Suddenly, the dial started to move again, "Dean, what?"
The dial moved over the letter H.
"H..." Sam stated confused," U." It then moved over the N and T. "Hunt?"
"What, hunting? Are you hunting?" Will questioned confused. The dial moved over the yes.
"Dean, it's in the hospital, what you're hunting? Do you know what it is?" Sam asked urgently.
The dial moved over a sequence of letters until it spelled out, "Reaper," Will stated, "Dean, is it after you?"
The dial moved over the yes. Sam and Will looked down solemnly.
"If its here naturally, there's no way to stop it," Sam said sadly, "Man, you're, uh..."
"He's screwed," Will stated bluntly. Sam sighed as he ran a hand over his face.
"No. No, no, no," Sam muttered, "Um, there's gotta be a way."
Will watched as Sam stood up, and sighed as she stood up as well, "Sam-"
"No! There's gotta be a way. My dad will know what to do," he told her desperately, before leaving the room.
Will sighed, turning around and picking up the Ouija board, and hiding it so the doctors didn't freak out if they saw it. She looked over to Dean laying on the bed, before making her eyes glow a bright amber. She looked around the room before spotting Dean's spirit standing in the corner of the room, staring at her. She gave him a smile.
"Don't worry, brother. Everything's gonna be okay," she told him sincerely, before making her eyes return back to normal and walk out of the room.
***
She walked down to the boiler room to find John just arriving as well. He gave her a sigh.
"You sure you want to do this?" he asked her. She nodded, opening the door for him.
"I'm sure."
He nodded, walking in and Will following, locking the door behind them.
They walked to the very middle of the boiler room and set the bag of ingredients down.
"Let's do this," Will sighed as she took out the chalk. Before she could begin, she felt a pang on the back of her head, knocking her out cold.
John caught her with his good arm before she could fall to the ground, setting down the pistol and moving her over to lean her against the wall.
"I'm sorry, Willow," he told her, moving a piece of a hair from her face, "But you shouldn't have to die for me. You mean so much to my boys. Take care of them while I'm gone."
~~~~~~~~~~
"What I want to know, Johnny, is why you didn't let the wolf to take the deal?" the yellow eyed demon asked John with a smirk. John glared at him.
"You know why," he growled.
"Oh, yes. Because she's the reincarnation of the wolf and moon goddess Diana, the most powerful supernatural being there is. Ruler of the supernatural and goddess for the hunters. Yet, you let her live," the yellow eyed demon taunted.
"I let her live because she means more to my sons alive than dead. She's all they have left."
"I see, so, we have a deal?"
John looked back to Will's unconscious body, before nodding.
"Yes, we have a deal."
***
Will groaned in pain as she woke up, rubbing her head. She blinked rapidly as she looked around the room, John no where in sight. Her eyes widened in panic.
"John! she yelled as she stood up and ran as fast as she could to John's room. As she ran down the hall, she ran into Sam, almost knocking over the cup of coffee in his hands.
"Whoa! Will, you okay? Where were you last night?" he asked your worriedly. She ignored him and ran down the hall into John's room. "Will?! Willow!"
Sam ran after her and they entered John's room, the cup of coffee falling from Sam's hand in seconds as he and Will rushed over to John's collapsed body on the ground.
"Dad? Dad!" Sam shouted in panic, before calling for help.
"John, you son of a bitch! Don't do this to us!" Will shouted, grabbing John and shaking him, tears threatening to spill from her eyes.
The doctors came quickly and tried to revive him, Sam coming up behind Will with Dean in his arms.
Will shook her head as she walked away into a quiet room, knowing it was no use. She couldn't help the tears that fell from her eyes, knowing that Sam and Dean would be waiting for nothing.
She made a sudden chill, before she turned to the corner of the room. She made her eyes glow and saw that John was standing there with a sad smile. She glared at him.
"You son of a bitch, it should have been me!" she shouted at him. He placed a hand on her shoulder, before giving her a reassuring nod.
"You take care of my boys, Willow. They need you," he stated, before he vanished into thin air. Will couldn't breathe properly as her eyes went back to normal, and she collapsed on her knees, letting the tears flow.
