17. Hunted Part 2
When the three returned back from getting the records, Will immediately got to work, sitting at the table and started to look through it, Sam standing over her and searching as well. He stopped when he noticed Ava look really shaken up.
"You okay?" he asked her concerned. Ava turned to face him with a wide eyed expression.
"Am I okay?" she asks, almost as if she wasn't entirely sure he was talking to her. Will snorted, not looking up from the papers.
"He wasn't talking to your shoes, honey," she states, causing Sam to flick her in the ear, "Ow! What the hell?!"
Sam rolled his eyes and turned to Ava, "Yeah."
"I just helped you steal some dead guy's confidential psych files," Ava said uncertainly, before she smiled, "I'm awesome!"
Sam and Will laughed.
"I'm liking you a bit now," Will winked before she pulled out a tape recorder, "Check this out."
She pressed play and placed it on the table.
"It started a little over a year ago," Scott's voice came through, "Migraines at first. Then I found I could do stuff."
"What do you mean, 'do stuff'?" Dr. Waxler's voice asked.
"I have this ability. When I touch something, I can electrocute it if I want."
The three all looked at each other, knowing that was exactly what they wanted to hear. They continued to listen as he spoke of the demon, unknowing that Dean was outside, cheering his little brother on for getting it on with two women.
"What else does the yellow-eyed man say?"
"He has plans for me."
"What kind of plans?"
"He says there's a war coming, and people like me, we're gonna be the soldiers, following a woman in white to battle. Everything's about to change."
Will had heard enough and shut it off, feeling everyone else grow uncomfortable.
"He's not talking about us, right?" Ava chuckled nervously. Will rolled his eyes.
"Well, he's definitely talking about the damn Power Rangers, now, is he?" Will sighed frustrated, standing up and rubbing her oncoming headache.
"Well..." Ava choked, "But how can we turn into that?"
Sam sighs, turning to sit down, "I don't--"
Suddenly, a bullet barely misses Sam's head, flying through the glass window.
"Get down!" Sam shouts, pushing the two women to the ground. Another shit fired, breaking the other window.
"Oh, my god, what's happening?" Ava panicked, Will bear crawling to the fallen bullet. She goes to pick it up, but groans in pain as it burns her. Silver
"Whoever it is, they know about me," Will grimaced, feeling her fingers heal.
"Stay low," Sam pulls Will into him as another shot fires. Soon, it stops. Will peers her head up.
"Are they gone?" Ava whispers.
Will looks around, "My head is not blown off, so, yeah, I think so."
Sam rolled his eyes, standing and pulling the girls with him.
"Want to find out who it is?" Will asked. Sam nodded.
***
They all went to the rooftop where the sniper was, Ava more shaken up than ever.
"Wait, I don't understand. Shouldn't we be talking to the cops?" she asked naively. Will scoffed.
"They wouldn't be much good. Half are assholes and the other half is just plain stupid," she muttered. Sam gave her a look and she lowers her head.
"I know, I know," she muttered, playfully bunking her head, "Behave Willow."
Sam rolled his eyes, kneeling down and picking up one of the shells.
"These are .223 caliber-- subsonic rounds. The guy must have put a suppressor on the rifle," Sam informed. Will smiled.
"Cool," she smiled, but stopped when she saw Sam's face, "I mean, awful."
"Who are you guys?!" Ava asked, completely fed up with their shit.
Sam looked at her sheepishly, laughing nervously, "Oh, I just, uh-- I just watch a lot of T.J. Hooker."
Will holds back a chuckle as she pulls out her phone. Ava looks at her curiously.
"Who are you calling?" she asks. Will gives Sam a look.
"His brother. We're definitely gonna need his help," she answers, before Dean picks up.
"Hello?"
"Dean," Will smiles.
"Will, I've been looking for you two."
"Yeah, sorry about that. Look, we're in Indiana. Lafayette."
"I know," Dean answers. Will becomes confused.
"You do?"
"Yeah, Ellen told me. I just got here. It's a real funky town. You ditched me, Will. And took my brother with you."
Will suddenly grew serious, "I'm sorry, Dean. Look, right now, someone's after us."
"What? Who?"
"We don't know, but they know about me, so they are gonna be a real pain in the ass. Where are you?"
"I'm staying at 5637 Monroe Street. Why don't you meet me here?"
"Yeah, sure," Will nodded, before hanging up. She looked at Sam.
"Dean's in trouble."
Sam and Ava's eyes grew wide, "What?"
"He gave me a code word," she stated, causing Sam to understand, "He's got a gun to his head."
Will pulled out a pad and pen before writing the address down, handing it to Sam.
"Code word?" Ava asked, still confused. Sam nodded.
"Yeah, 'Funky Town'," Sam answered, already knowing what Dean would have told Will. Ava gave an exasperated look, "Well, he thought of it. It's kind of a long story."
Will snorted before muttering, "Vegas, baby."
Sam rolled his eyes before he led the two girls off the roof, "I'm never gonna know the real story of what you two have planned, huh?"
Will clicked her tongue as she shook her head, "That is strictly between Dean and I, Sammy. Sibling bonding."
Sam smiled as he rolled his eyes playfully, catching her sticking her tongue out at him from the corner of his eye.
"I don't think I should leave," Ava sighed as they led her to her bug.
"Well, you'll just get in the way if you come with us," Willow stated bluntly. Sam smiled sheepishly.
"What she means to say is we don't want to getting hurt, Ava," Sam translated the Salvatore language.
"What about you two?" she asked. Will sighed.
"Trust us, we really can't avoid it."
"No, but you are walking right into my vision," Ava admitted, "I mean, this is how you die and how your girlfriend goes crazy."
Will shrugged, "Well, crazy isn't such a bad thing."
Sam sighed, "It doesn't matter, it's my brother."
Ava sighed, before offering, "Maybe I can help."
"You've done all you can. Just-- just go back to your fiancé," Will smiled tightly, pushing her slightly towards the bug.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure. Go home, Ava," Sam offered a kind smile, opening the door for her, "You'll be safe there."
"Well, just..." Ava trailed off, turning to look at the two, "Promise me you'll call, then. When you get your brother, just to let me know that everything's all right."
Will nodded, "We promise, now go, you've got a wedding to plan."
Ava smiled at that, before taking off.
~~~~~~~~~
"This is the place," Sam stated, looking down at the address and to the broken down home. Will nodded, before slowly walking forward onto the porch, motioning for Sam to stay put. She looked through the boards as saw Gordon watching the front door, Dean tied up behind him. Will made her way back to him.
"He's scouting the front, we'll have to go through the back," she stated. Sam nodded and led the way. Quietly making their way around, they came to the door. Sam slowly tried the doorknob, but it was locked. Expecting this, Sam pulled out his lock-picking kit and quickly unlocked the door. Will held him back before he entered.
"It this place is gonna blow, I should go first," she rationalized. Sam went to protest, but she stopped him, "The blast won't kill me, but it will kill you. And I'd prefer if my booty call wasn't dead."
Sam rolled his eyes, "So I just have to watch you get hurt?!"
Will sighed, turning to face him, "You get Dean if it does blow. I take the fall, you two take him down."
She then winked, "I'll even let you patch me up if I do get hurt."
"Oh, yeah, blood and guts. Real sexy," Sam retorted. Will pouted.
"Shut the hell up," she sighed in defeat, turning towards the door and opening it.
"Here they come," Will's ears picked up, making her freeze.
Letting her eyes glow, she saw two trip wires near the door. She sighed, her eyes returning to normal, before she searched the area. Finding a long enough stick, she pulled the first wire, causing the room to explode. Sam shielded her from the explosion despite her protests. When it settled, she waited to hear Gordon again.
"Hold on, not yet. Let's wait and see."
She sighed, before throwing her shoe and tripping the other, covering in Sam's chest as that one exploded as well. They rushed in quickly before it called down too much, waiting for Gordon to come and check.
"Sorry, Dean."
Will heard footsteps, and watched as he slowly crept into the room, Sam cocking his gun and holding it to the back of Gordon's head.
"Drop the gun," Sam ordered.
"You shouldn't take your shoes off around here, you might get Tetanus," Gordon retorted. Will rolled her eyes, walking up to stand next to Sam.
"Just put the gun down, smartass," she sighed, tiredly.
"Now!" Sam stated more forcefully. Gordon complied, slowly.
"You wouldn't shoot me, would you, Sammy?" Gordon taunted, "'Cause your brother-- he thinks you're some kind of saint."
Will raised a brow, unamused, "Yeah, wouldn't bet on that one."
"See, that's what I said," Gordon agreed, before turning and plunging a syringe into Will's neck, causing her to fall unconscious.
Then the fight began.
Knocking the gun from Sam's hand, he unbalanced Sam by throwing a few punches, before kicking him into a wall. Sam collapsed through it, Gordon walking over and pulling a knife out.
"It's a good thing I kept that wolfs-bane on me," he smirked, "You two are no better than the filthy things you hunt."
This angered Sam and he grabbed Gordon's armed hand, and rolled him over to the ground, before punching him, twice for good measure. He stood, grabbing Gordon's shotgun in hand and pointing it at the man staring up at him.
"Do it," Gordon taunted, "Do it! Show your brother the killer you really are, Sammy."
Sam had had it, knocking him out with the butt of his gun.
"It's Sam."
Sam sighed, going to untie Dean, but not before picking up and unconscious Will into his arms. He looked down at her, wiping the smudge of dirt from her cheek, before fixing her hair, and walking out of the room.
~~~~~~~~~~
While Dean went off on Ellen, Sam helped Willow shake her grogginess from the wolf-bane, giving her plenty of water to flush it out and an ice pack to help the bruise on her head from the fall.
"I should have killed him," Sam muttered angrily, glaring daggers at Will's bruise. Will chuckled, taking her hand in his and giving him a reassuring smile.
"I'm fine, darling," she kissed his hand, "But that damn wolfs-bane always gets the turn on me."
Sam nodded, "Yeah, well, hopefully he's the only one who is dumb enough to try that."
Will made a face, "Or I should try to build up a tolerance to it."
Sam sighed, "You're not ingesting that poison again, hun. I'm sorry, but I won't allow it."
Will raised a brow, "And who said you had authority over that?"
Sam stayed silent, Will sighed.
"Look, it will be beneficial for all of us if I didn't get taken down every time I get injected with the damn plant. And I'm not saying down three bottles an hour with it mixed with my bourbon. Just a shot of it a day with bourbon until I can take it no problem."
Sam didn't say anything as Dean got into the car ad started driving.
Sam tried again and again to call Ava, but she never picked up. Finally, he just left a message before he hung up.
"Everything all right?" Dean raised a brow, glancing at his brother. Sam sighed.
"Yeah, I hope so."
"Well, Gordon should be reaching for the soap for the next few years, at least," Dean tried to lighten the mood. Will nodded.
"Yeah, if they pin the Scott Carey's murder on him... and he doesn't bust out."
Dean nodded, before turning serious again, "Guys, you two ever take off like that again..."
"What?" Sam smirked, "You'd kill us?"
Dean gave him a look, "That's so not funny."
Will and Sam laughed.
"What about grounding us by locking us in different rooms like we're sex crazed teenagers?" Will teased, leaning her head on the window to cool down, laughing when Dean rolled his eyes.
"Who knows?" Sam continued, "Maybe he'll even take away our phones so we can't call each other."
Dean whined, "All right! All right! Just shut the hell up!"
The two laughed loudly before settling down. Sam sighed.
"All right," he shrugged, "So, where to next, then?"
Will frowned, "Hasn't that been my line in the past chapters?"
"One word--" Dean stated as he ignored her rambling, "Amsterdam."
Sam groaned, "Dean."
Dean gave a defensive look, "Come on, man, I hear the coffee shops don't even serve coffee."
"We're not gonna just ditch the job," Sam exasperated.
"Screw the job, screw it, man," Dean exclaimed, "I'm sick of the job anyway. We don't get paid. We don't get thanked. The only thing we get is bad luck."
Will sighed, before leaning to the front seat, "You're a hunter, dude. You can't just break up with it like a two-night wako stand."
"I can and I will, I don't believe in that destiny crap," Dean shook his head.
"You mean you don't believe in our destiny," Sam stated, motioning to himself and Will.
Dean shrugged, "Whatever."
"Look, Dean, we've all tried hiding before," Will admitted, "But it just keeps coming back. Because we were chosen to save people from the hidden dangers in our world. We don't just throw away that responsibility. You can call it destiny or whatever, but we need to stay on our course."
"What about what we want, huh? Does that matter?" Dean snapped. Will nodded.
"Of course, and no matter how hard we deny it, we'll always want to help people. Always."
Dean knew he was defeated, so he only said, "Dumbass."
"Asshole."
"Jerk."
"Bitch."
Sam rolled his eyes as he tried to call Ava again, but no answer. He put his phone away, before he asked, "How far is it to Peoria?"
***
Making it to her house, they went in, scoping out where the couple was.
"Hello?" Sam called, "Is anybody home?"
Making it to the bedroom, they see Ava's fiancé killed on the bed, blood everywhere.
Will held her breath to not smell the blood, as Dean walked to the window, picking something up.
"Hey," Dean called, "Sulfur. The demon's been here."
Sam's eyes widened as Will groaned in annoyance.
"We just can't catch a break, can we?"
Sam sighed, before he stepped on something, causing him to look down. He kneeled and picked up an engagement ring.
"Ava."
