2. Everybody Loves A Clown Part 1

Sam, Dean, and Willow all stood by as they watched John's body burn in a hunter's burial. Sam was in tears while Dean didn't allow his to fall, wanting to be strong for his younger brother. Will, was past sadness. She was angry. Angry John didn't let her take the deal instead of him. But he was too good of a man.

Now, she promised she would honor him by watching over his boys. Even if it costs her life.

ONE WEEK LATER...

Will sighed as she washed the dishes at Bobby's house. Her and the boys had been crashing there for the past week while Dean fixed up the Impala. During this week, Will did her best to try and help Sam and Dean cope with their father's death. Something she was very experienced in after her mother was killed by the same thing that killed their parents.

She put the last few plates away in the cabinet before she walked over to the coffee maker, pouring some in a mug before she walked over to the room she shared with Sam, where he was laying in bed, still sleeping.

She stared at him sadly as she walked over and put the cup on the nightstand beside the bed, sitting next to his sleeping form. Lately, he's been going to sleep very late, not being able to fall asleep and not waking until noon, which was uncharacteristic of him. He would usually set his alarm for six in the morning, now he slept right through it.

She leaned over and shook his shoulder gently, "Sam. Sammy, honey. Wake up," she whispered softly.

He grumbled in protest, turning over to lay on his side, now facing her. He settled himself before falling back to sleep. Will sighed as she leaned down and kissed his forehead, then his cheek, then finally, his lips.

She could feel him smiling slightly as he kissed back lazily, moving his hand to cup her cheek. She pulled away and smiled down at him, watching as he tried to blink away the sleep.

"What time is it?" he asked groggily, sitting up and running a hand through his hair, yawning tiredly.

"About eleven forty-five in the morning," she told him, rubbing his back, "I thought after I check on Dean, we could maybe go out for breakfast. Or, lunch."

He nodded, giving her a smile, "That sounds wonderful."

He leaned in and gave her a kiss, before noticing the mug of coffee on the table, "Is that for me?"

Will nodded as she smiled, leaning over and grabbing the mug, before handing it to him, "Now, come on. Get dressed. As much as I love to see you with a sexy bedhead, you need a shower."

Sam laughed as she quickly kissed his cheek, before leaving the room for him to change.

Damn, I love that woman, he thought as he took a big gulp of his coffee.

***

After leaving Sam, Will walked out into the junk yard and found Dean under the Impala.

"How's the car coming along?" she asked.

"Slow," Dean replied, too focused on his work to really pay attention.

"Yeah? You need any help?" she asked. Dean sighed as a part from the car fell off, landing beside him.

"What, you under a hood? I'll pass," Dean joked dryly.

"Need anything else, then?" Will asked the man she considered her third brother once again.

Dean rolled out from under the Impala, and gave her a look as he stood up.

"Stop it, Will," he told her sternly, walking over to the rack of tools.

"Stop what?" she asked innocently.

"Stop asking if I need anything, stop asking if I'm okay. That may work on my brother, but not on me, all right? I'm okay. Really, I promise," Dean chuckled. She sighed.

"All right, Dean, it's just..." she trailed off, walking over to him, "We've been at Bobby's for a week now, and you've never once mentioned your dad."

Dean turned and looked at her, nodding, "You know what? You're right. Come here. I'm gonna lay my head gently on your shoulder. Maybe we could cry and hug, and maybe even slow dance."

Will scoffed at his use of sarcasm, "Don't patronize me, Dean. You're father's dead, the colt's gone, and it seems pretty damn likely that the demon is behind all this. And you're acting like nothing happened."

"What do you want me to say?" Dean questioned.

"Say something! Hell, say anything! Just don't keep this bottled up inside, Dean. Trust me, it'll just make it worse," Will told him. He glared at her.

"Why should I? You're the one who let my father die!" he shouted at her. She looked down guiltily. Dean then realized what he said, "Will-"

"No, Dean," she cut him off, "You're right. It is my fault. But I'm trying to make it better everyday I live, all right? That's what I came out here to tell you. I found a lead to where we can find the demon on one of your Dad's old phones. Maybe they can help."

Dean sighed, before shaking his head, "All right, Wolfie. Go see if Bobby will let us use one of his cars."

***

"This is humiliating," Dean groaned as he shut off the piece of junk Bobby let them use, "I feel like a freaking soccer mom."

"It's the only car Bobby had running," Will answered as she exited the car with the two, "Plus, Stefan took his Porsche when he left back to Virginia, so that was out of the question."

"What did he leave for, anyway?" Sam questioned her. Will shrugged.

"I don't know. Something about his friends heading to college or whatever," she mumbled, watching as Sam walked around the old beat up bar.

"Hello!" he called out, "Anybody here?"

Dean, who was looking through the window, turned to Will, "Hey, did you bring the--"

"Of course," she smiled, tossing him the lock pick. Dean opened the screen door, before quickly picking the lock, and opening it up, Sam and Will following.

They looked around the rundown bar, Dean handing the lock pick back to Will. They walked over to the back, where a guy with a mullet was laying on top of the pool table.

"Hey, buddy?" Sam called. The man didn't answer, "I'm guessing that isn't Ellen."

Dean nodded in agreement, "Yeah."

Will turned and walked down to the room behind the bar, Sam following her.

"Sam! Will! I need a little help in here!" they heard Dean yell. They walked out, but they had their hands on their heads, an older woman holding a gun to Sam's head.

"I'm sorry, Dean. We can't right now," Will replied sarcastically, "We're a little tied up."

Will looked over to see a younger girl who looked similar to the older woman holding a rifle towards Dean.

"Sam? Dean? Winchester?" the older woman questioned.

"Yeah," Dean grunted, holding his nose where the younger one had punched him.

"Son of a bitch," she muttered, before looking to Will, "And I'm guessing your the hybrid hunter, Salvatore, that has been hunting with them."

Will smirked, "That'd be me."

"Mom, you know these people?" the girl asked her mother.

"Yeah, I think these are John Winchester's boys and their mutt," the woman responded. She laughed, before dropping the gun, "Hey, I'm Ellen. That's my daughter, Jo."

Jo brought down the rifle and looked at them suspiciously, "Hey."

"You're not gonna hit me again, are you?" Dean laughed nervously.

***

"Here you go," Ellen mumbled as she handed Dean a cloth filled with ice.

"Thanks," Dean mumbled, "You called our dad, said you could help-- help with what?"

"Well, the demon, of course," Ellen stated, "I heard he was closing in on it."

Dean looked over to Sam and Willow, all three looking surprised.

"Was there an article in the Demon Hunter's Quarterly that I missed?" Dean asked sarcastically, yet frustrated, "How do you know all this?"

"Hey, I just run a saloon, but hunters have been known to pass through now and again, including your dad a long time ago," Ellen explained, "John was like family once."

"Oh, yeah? How come he's never mentioned you before?" Dean questioned.

"You'd have to ask him that," Ellen responded. The three hunters tensed, but didn't say anything.

"So, why exactly do we need your help?" Will asked expectantly.

"Hey, don't do me any favors," Ellen scoffed, "Look, if you don't want my help, fine. Don't let the door smack your ass on the way out. But John wouldn't have sent you if..." Ellen trailed off, as she came to the realization.

"He didn't send you," she stated. Will, Sam and Dean looked down in dismay, Sam reaching and grabbing Will's hand for comfort. "He's all right, isn't he?"

Dean sighed painfully. Sam decided to answer for them, "No. No, he isn't."

"It was the demon," Will stated, "It just got him before he got it."

"I'm so sorry," Ellen apologized.

"It's okay. We're all right," Dean dismissed.

"Really, I know how close you and your dad--"

"Really, lady, I'm fine," Dean snapped, cutting her off. Will gave him a sharp look, but didn't say anything.

"So, look," Sam started as he looked to the two women, "If you can help... we can use all the help we can get."

"Well, we can't," Ellen stated bluntly, looking to her daughter, "But Ash will."

Will looked at them confused, "Who's Ash?"

"Ash!" Ellen called out, the man laying on the pool table shooting up groggily, startling the three hunters.

"What? Closing time?" Ash questioned, his mullet haircut swaying back and forth. They all looked back to Ellen to see if she was serious.

"That's Ash?" Sam asked in disbelief. Jo nodded.

"Mm-hmm. He's a genius," she told them.

***

As the boys talked to Ash, Will was in the back with Ellen, grabbing some drinks and getting ready for opening time.

"So, why did you decide to hunt your own kind?" Ellen suddenly asked. Will froze, turning to face her.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, why hunt monsters? Aren't you friends or something?"

Will glared at her, "Listen, lady, I don't know what you think of me, but I do know its wrong. I hunt monsters. And monsters in my books are creature and people that hurt innocents. Whether they are human or not."

Ellen turned and smirked at Will, "I like you. You have heart."

Will rolled her eyes, putting the rag down before walking out to the bar, standing beside Sam.

"Hey, Ellen, what is that?" Sam asked, pointing to the back of the bar after Will sat in his lap. Ellen looked over to where he was pointing.

"It's a police scanner," she answered, "We keep tabs on things--"

"No, no, no, no, the folder," Sam corrected her. Ellen seemed to freeze up, before she walked over and grabbed it, looking back to the boy.

"Uh... I was gonna give these to a friend of mine, but take a look if you want." She placed the folder in front of them.

"Thanks," Sam thanked her, before himself and Will began to look over the news articles and pictures. Will sighed as she rubbed her eyes tiredly. Sam looked at her worriedly, "You okay?"

Will looked at him as he rubbed her arms comfortingly, nodding, "Yeah. Just... these last few weeks have been tough ones. Just want to sleep until the next full moon."

Sam hummed in agreement, kissing her shoulder, "I can think of a few ways to tire you out."

Will raised a brow surprised, smiling at him amused, "Well, what would that be, Sammy Boy?" she teased, leaning towards him.

He wrapped his arms around her waste, "It's a secret," he whispered, before pecking her lightly on the lips. Will giggled, before looking back to the article.

"Hey, Dean, come check this out," she suddenly called, looking over the folder again. Dean walked over, "A few murders not far from here that Ellen caught wind of-- looks to me like there might be a hunt."

"Yeah, so?" Dean asked.

"So, I told her we'd check it out," Sam told his brother.

***

They decided to go back to Bobby's and wait until nightfall to head out to grab the necessary supplies. Will and Sam took the time to go on their brunch date.

Dean sighed as he walked into the living room where Bobby was sitting at his desk, "Are the two back yet?"

Bobby shook his head, not looking up from his papers, "Nope. Something about celebrating one year or something? I don't know, I wasn't really listening."

Dean's eyes widened in surprise, "It's been a year already? Damn, time flies."

He plopped himself on the couch, sighing, "When do you think Sam's gonna do it?"

Bobby looked up from his papers, looking at him confused, "Do what?"

Dean gave him a look, "You know, pop the question? Ring the bells? Get hitched?"

"What makes you think he's gonna ask in the first place?" Bobby raised a brow.

"I saw him looking at a catalogue the other day. On engagement rings," Dean emphasized, "I think it was pretty obvious."

"Maybe he was just browsing," Bobby shrugged. Dean sighed, shaking his head.

"Fine, ruin my fun," he muttered just as the front door opened, followed by Sam and Willow's laughs.

"If you think you can beat a hybrid, you're crazy," Will laughed, putting the leftovers on the table, before turning to face Sam.

"I know I can, because I'm just too hard for you to resist," Sam teased as he closed the door. Will nodded tauntingly, walking towards him.

"Mm-hmm. And I also suppose you think you can resist my temptation?" she asked seductively, running her fingers down his torso. Sam swallowed a groan of pleasure, before leaning down to kiss her.

She pulled away quickly, however, and backed away, giggling, "Told you, can't beat a hybrid."

She skipped off, but Sam chuckled darkly, "Oh, you're gonna get it now."

He chased after her, causing Will to squeal as Dean and Bobby watched her and Sam run up the stairs, laughing like teenagers.

Dean looked at gave Bobby a pointed look, "And that's not enough proof for you?"

Bobby simply rolled his eyes.

***

"You've got to be kidding me-- killer clown?" Dean scoffed that night as they drove to the case.

"Yeah, he left the daughter unharmed and killed the parents. Ripped them to pieces, actually," Sam added.

"And this family was at some carnival that night?" Dean asked.

"Right, the Cooper Carnival," Will answered tiredly from the back seat, her eyes closed and head leaning against the window, wrapped up in Sam's jacket.

"How do you know we're not dealing with some psycho carny with a clown suit?" Dean questioned.

"Well, the cops have no leads, and all of the employees were tearing down shop-- alibis all around. Plus the girl said she saw a clown vanish into thin air," Sam stated, "Cops are saying trauma, of course."

"I know what you're thinking, Sam-- 'Why did it have to be clowns?'" Dean taunted with a smirk.

"Oh, give me a break," Sam muttered unhappily. Will looked at them confused.

"You didn't think I remembered, did you?" Dean laughed, "I mean, come on, you still bust out crying whenever you see Ronald McDonald on the television."

Will couldn't help but laugh, "Awe, is my Moosy afraid of clowns?" Will laughed in a baby voice. Sam glared at his brother.

"At least I'm not afraid of flying," he stated.

"Planes crash!"

"And apparently clowns kill!"

"All right! Enough!" Will snapped annoyed, "I swear, you guys are like fucking twelve year olds."

"So, these types of murders-- they ever happen before?" Dean asked, changing the subject.

"Uh, according to the file, 1982, the Bunker Brother's Circus. Same M.O.--it happened three different times, three different locales."

"That's weird, though. I mean, if it is a spirit, it's usually bound to a specific locale-- a house or a town," Dean stated.

"How's this one moving?" Will asked, "Carnival to carnival."

"Cursed object, maybe," Dean suggested, "Spirit attaches itself to something and the carnival carries it around with them."

"Great," Sam muttered, "Paranormal scavenger hunt."

"This case was your idea," Dean reminded him, "By the way, why is that? You were awfully quick to jump on this job."

Sam shrugged, "So?"

"It's just not like you, that's all. I thought you were hell bent for leather on the demon hunt."

"I don't know-" Sam shrugged, "I just think taking this job, it's what Dad would have wanted us to do?"

"What Dad would have wanted?" Dean asked him as if it was ridiculous. Sam nodded.

"Yeah. So?"

Dean shook his head, "Nothing."

Sam sighed, before turning to face Will, "Hey, honey, can you pass me the-" he stopped when he noticed she was fast asleep. He chuckled, reaching over and pulling his sweater over her body more to keep her warm.

Dean couldn't help but smile at his brother. He just hoped his brother asked soon.
